Why has my baby stopped cooing and babbling?

My baby just turned 4 months old. A few weeks ago she stopped babbling. She still smiles and laughs, has even belly-laughed a few times. She maintains eye-contact. She watches my mouth when I talk to her and moves her mouth like mine. If I talk or even whisper when I when I go into her room when it's time to get up from a nap, she wakes up, so I don't think hearing is a problem. Physically she is rolling over, grabs things very well, tries to stand up whenever she gets her hands around my fingers. She just doesn't seem interested in saying anything. Should I be worried? (because I am! :) ) Thanks!

No worries! Babies go through major developmental shifts, and sometimes that includes the sounds they make... sounds like she's just content to listen right now, which is great. The monitor for worry seems to be weight gain and happiness. If she's eating well and cheerful, what more could we ask for? :) Congrats on your beautiful little girl!

7 week old baby sleeps restless at night but fine during the day?

I have a 7 week old. We have those video monitors. She is sleeping for longer periods at a time - anytime betwen 5 and 7 hours at a time at night, but it seems to be restless sleep. We have video monitors and I'm constantly being woken up because I hear her twisting, turning and moaning and I think she is on the verge of waking up, but she doesn't really. When she sleeps during the day, she seems so peaceful? At night, I turn on a "sound" maker - so it sounds like rain / white noise in her room. Again - she sleeps, but it seems like such restless sleep and I'm not sure why.

The sound machine is wonderful. A lot of babies seem restless at night. They babble, twist and turn, and move all over the crib. Really we don't know why. My thoughts are that they are dreaming. And working through things in their sleep. They are in the deeper REM sleep longer at night and therefore have more dreams. Think about it. You don't lie still in your sleep at night either.

When to quit using a baby monitor at night?

My DD is 4 month old. We dont use a monitor right now because she sleeps in the same room (1 bedroom rental house only 560sq ft) We bought a 1200sqft house and will be moving when she is just over 5 months old. My question is how long did you personally use a monitor for? We own one so its Ill use it for naps cause I could be anywhere at nap time in the house but her bedroom is right across from ours. Im thinking it might work best just to leave both bedroom doors open at night? Im sure we'll try it out either way and see what works but a little input is nice. Thanks.

My daughter will hit 5 months on Sunday, and we do exactly what you are talking about...her bedroom is across the hall from ours. I DO close both doors, becuase if she actually cries, I can hear her through it, but if she's just babbling, its not loud enough to wake me up (If i"m awake I can hear it).

The baby monitor sits plugged in in the living room, so that if shes napping and i'm watching tv, i can see it light up and hear her. Works perfectly!

Anyone else have a baby who talks to themselves at night?

My almost 5 month old has started waking up way too early talking to herself. She isn't crying but of course it comes through the monitor and she is just talking. Any ideas what to do? Should i just turn off the monitor because she is not upset...
I don't really mind her talking it is just that my poor husband has to sleep for work. I am a SAHM so it is not a big deal to me! I think it is so freaking cute just not at 2:30am!

Your baby is doing really good if she is already babbling at 5 months. Just let her be. She is practicing with her words and sounds. If you want to turn off the monitor that is fine, you will hear her if she gets upset. Or you could just lay back and listen to the sweet "stories" your dear one is telling you or the wall or the animals in the room. My 1yr old wakes up about 5:30 everyday and talks to the bunny in her bed. The more she practices the quicker she will learn her sounds and may start talking earlier.



It is such sweet music to hear our childrens voices.

My baby is 3 mos and already babbling?

Q. At night I will hear her in the baby monitor and look at the screen and shes just lying awake babbling (she does it during the day too and I try to talk back...lol). She really looks and sounds like shes trying so hard to talk! A what age did your baby begin to babble and how soon was their first word?? I know it may be awhile but I cant wait to hear her say mama!

A. My girl will be 3 months old on 9th March and she also babbles alot :) i love that!
Whenever i lay her on her activity gym she keeps babbling with her hanging toys...
Sometimes she try so hard to talk but just came out ughhha (something like that) lol
She tries so hard that i wanted to do something for her to encourage her, well i just reply by talking to her.
Like u i am dying to listen MAMA..
