Has anyone used the summer brand fetal heart monitor?

alex

I am 17 and a half weeks pregnant and I bought the summer brand fetal heart monitor at babies r us today. I tried to use it and heard mostly loud, annoying static and once I got it to quiet down while pressed against my belly i still couldn't hear much of anything. I am just wondering if anyone else has used this product successfully. I know I am still about 8 weeks early for when they suggest to start using it for best results but I am sort of curious about if it will even work then.

Answer
Personally, I think they're all crap :(
I haven't had any luck with the ones you can buy at BRU or other stores. At 17.5 weeks, you should be able to pick up a HB with a doppler.
You would've been better off renting one of the good ones from one from the rental websites.
Can you return the ones from BRU?

When is it the best time to buy a baby heart monitor?

Mommy2

I am 5 in a half weeks a long and I have been told you can hear a baby's heartbeat at 6 weeks along. But some say it's very faint. When is the best time to buy one?

Answer
It can be very hard to hear so early. I am at 13 weeks and just a couple of wks ago (so like 11 wks along) I was at my midwives and we still couldnt hear the HB. But I had heard it back in mid dec when I had my first ultrasound. Next time I go in (end of this month) we should FINALLY be able to hear it with the doppler. So dont get to bummed or frustrated if you cant hear it yet with the use of a doppler (normal way to hear it) I wouldnt buy any monitor yet. And talk to your dr, they can offer some advice in that area. My midwife says that its best to get one of the home dopplers or use a stethoscope for listening but not anything that creates sound waves like an ultrasound because too much use can be harmful to the baby, which some of those monitors use. I have a stethoscope from work but I dont figure ill be able to hear with that for a few more weeks or even longer. But I will def be doing something about hearing the heartbeat at home so I can keep track of the baby daily...or HOURLY lol! ;)

The device is the telephone.
Either to call another paid live in nurse who figures a way to hear their patient or the nurse sleeps with hers on vibrate in a pocket to wake her up.

How old would you consider old enough to be on a seperate floor?

We just bought a new house, and my son is 4. All me and my husband have for our room is a bed and dresser. My son has all kinds of stuff for his room. The house we got is a bungalow, and has 2 bedrooms on the main floor and the "master" upstairs. The 2 rooms on the main floor are kind of small compared to what were coming from, but the master is quite large. Do you think he would be old enough to be on a different floor than us? The only other thing we need a room for is a computer room, and it seems to make sense to not use the master for that...what do you think?

Oh also, stairs arent really an issue, hes as good with stairs as you could expect a 4 yr old to be.
ok i must not have been clear about the setup. The 2 bedroom are on the MAIN floor, like downstairs. The master is upstairs. He would be in the master, upstairs, me and hubby in bedroom downstairs and computer room downstairs. It seems rather wasteful to use an entire upstairs (the master is the entire upper floor) for just a computer desk and chair...i wont put him downstairs and us up, would have to be him up and us down. Hope that made it more clear!

Answer
I think four is old enough to be one a seperate floor. Until you get used to it, you may want to use a baby monitor, just to make you feel better about being able to hear him. You should also make sure the stairs are lighted somehow (you can get those ones that stick to the wall and you just push on and off) so that if he needs you in the night he'll be able to see them.

How can a spider egg sac enter a household?

mirioux

I recently found about 50-100 very small spiders on a web on the top bunk of my bed. The rather large web was built in less then 24 hours. I presume these were baby spiders. I'm simply wondering how did they enter my house. I have a dog and an indoor cat and I live in a rural area.
Also should I worry that this will happen again? I don't like the idea of sharing my bed with a hundred spiders regularly.

Answer
Spiders will hide egg sacs in safe places. it typically takes about
2 weeks for these to hatch, so the egg sac has been on your
bed at least this long.
Being in a rural area, this is probably a common occurrence.
You may not have another hatching on your bed, but you
can likely expect hatchings from time to time.
The spiderlings are quite harmless and can be cleaned up
easily with a vacuum.
routine cleaning with a vacuum will help control this.
I recently had a hatching near my desk, and it can be a little
frustrating to find a hundred spiderlings crawling all over the desk,
keyboard, monitor, chair.

What is the best baby monitor and car seat for newborn?

Answer
Car Seats:

The ones I would recomend are Britax Companion, Graco Snugride, and Graco Safeseat.

The Britax Companion is Rated #1 on Consumer reports. It is made in London and thus adhears to European standerds (they're a little bit higher then American standerds). The Car Seat can hold a child up to 22lbs or 30 inches long (whichever comes 1st). The actual carrier itself weighs about 10 lbs. The car seat has a rebound bar on it to avoid the cacooning of the child in a car accident.

The Graco Snugride is a very basic design. The carrier weighs 8 lbs and can hold a child up to 22 lbs or 29 inches long.

The Graco Safeseat just came out this year. It weighs 10 lbs but it can hold a child up to 30 lbs or 32 inches long which should get you at least through the first year (the other two will on average get you to about 9 months).

Some people like Evenflo infant car seats but I don't because I feel like the erganomic handle makes it harder to carry as the child get's heavier.

Monitor:

Avoid Fisher Price. They break a lot. I would say the Sony 900mhz 27 channel monitor. You will avoid a lot of interfearance.

Hope this info helps :-)

what do i use to clean my screen of my flat screen computer?

Answer
Unlike the standard CRT monitors with Glass screens, you are NOT advised to clean an LCD Monitor by wiping it with a piece of dry lint-free cloth since the sensitive display is likely to get scratches from dust particles.

Think of LCD Displays just like the soft and delicate skin of your newborn baby - Be very gentle and never put even the slightest pressure on the computer screen with your hand.

Second, you need to find a piece of soft cloth - old cotton handkerchiefs lying in your mom's wardrobe should be fine but don't try tissue papers, toilet rolls or even shower towels as the fabric will scratch your screen permanently [like sandpaper or utensil scrubbers]

Either turn the monitor off or set the background to black and hide all the desktop icons and minimize the open windows. This will easily help you identify the dirty areas of the monitor.

To prepare the solution for cleaning LCD monitors, you will need deionized or distilled water and vinegar or iso-propyl alcohol - Don't use tap water or mineral water as they could leave white marks on the screen because of the dissolved salts.

Dilute the vinegar or IPA with distilled water [1:1] and spray this liquid on the cloth. Never ever spray liquid directly onto the LCD screen. Moisten the cloth with this home made LCD cleaner and gently move the wet cloth in just one direction - from top to bottom.

Word of Caution: Be sure that the LCD screen is dry before closing it or using the computer. Do not use any solutions that contain Acetone, ethyl alcohol, toluene, ethyl acid, ammonia, or methyl chloride. Never touch the LCD screen with your fingers as this can cause the pixels to burn out.

How can I stop my cordless phone from interfering with my wireless router?

I dont kno

I have 2.4 ghz spread spectrum cordless phone that autoselects the clearest channel everytime you use the phone and there is no way to change the channel manually. I also have a linksys 2.4 ghz wireless router. Using the cordless phone renders my wifi useless 9 times out of 10. I have tried to change the routers wireless channel (possible values are 1-11 I think) but that did not solve the problem. Does anyone know what I can do to prevent this interference?

Answer
Each device uses the same frequency band (as do garage door openers, baby monitors, Web cams, ....).

You can change frequency bands for one or the other. Use a 5Mhz phone, or a 5MHz band WiFi gear (802.11a).

Reduce the relative signal strength seen by the 802.11b/g stuff you've got. Move the phone to the other end of the house. Move the laptop (or whatever) closer, leaving the phone in the same place, ... Add an antenna (probably a corner reflector (chicken wire may be a perfectly sensible material) for the rubber ducky type of antenna design most commonly seen) to both ends of the WiFi link (you may not have to physically crack open the radios at either end, but note that this dodge increases signal strenght in one direction (and does the same to receiver sensitivity). Since both the phone handset(s) and the mobile WiFi device (a laptop, probably) is also mobile, this isn't any kind of universally adequate dodge. Find a way to reduce the phone's signal strength (probably not possible to non-techie types) unless it's possible to say, put soeme absorbing or reflecting material between the phone and the WIFi radios. An experimental bronze foil covered wall, perhaps. Ought to work well if you can keep the two radio types out of each other's effective range. May not be possible in some kinds of interior decorating environments. consult with those in charge before trying anything like this.

Another dodge ito try to arrange that the WiFi antennas are a 90 degree polarizatino difference than the phone antennas (as usually used; if you have sprawling teenagers, this may not be predictable).
Since both devices operate (or probably do) in a spread spectrum mode, each will appear to the other to be a general increase in the noise level against which they must work. Changing channels (if possible) isn't likely to be very effective. Too much noise, no radio receiver will be able to make sense of what it hears.

What are the best long-term investments in today's market for someone at age 18?

Q. I am 18 years old. I realize the importance of investing for retirement early because of the impact that the "baby-boomers" will have on the nation's social security fund. I have been looking around at different types of investments (Mutual Funds, Roth IRA's, etc.), but I don't really have a concrete answer of what looks best. If I can't get one here I might just have to get a financial adviser.

Thanks for your help

Answer
First- long term is a somewhat flexible view, or should be in that you must always be prepared to modify positions according to changes in market and economic conditions. When the recession hit, I advised a friend to make a change with a particular stock he owned in order to profit from the recession. He did not follow the advice, as he thinks he's a long-term investor. That one error cost him $425,000 as of today, and the stock is only 70% back. When it's fully recovered to pre-recession value, the number he missed out on by not adjusting his strategy will be $696,000. You have to play the hand on the table- not the one that existed last week or might next year.

Roth is a good way to go, however the limits on what you can contribute will prevent it from becoming as large as it might be otherwise. I use both an IRA and and a conventional account, and I manage two other family accounts. My best portfolio has grown 593% in 33 months, so I'm doing a bit better than your average investor.

Starting young is a huge advantage. Starting at 18, it's entirely possible to be a millionaire in your 30's. You won't do that with the slow growers however. Many super winners we bought in the depth of the recession are close to normal price, and no longer hot buys. However, the real estate market in still in a recession induced depressed state. That means stocks in that market are still down, and will grow from the natural recovery of real estate as well as from individual success, making them multiple winners. Many of the REITS (real estate investment trusts) will gain from 3-10 times the current cost in the next five years, and will pay fat dividends as well. The time to get in on them is now- and like everything else, there will be a time to get out and move to something new with stronger potential when the conditions change.

You must consider what risk exposure you want to take, what gains you hope to achieve, if you will manage it yourself or give it to a broker (never again in my case) and much more. IF you will not monitor it yourself, play it safe. Nobody will take better care of your money than you will.

Then there are the CRT that has a response as low as .02ms (notice the dot in front of the 0 no its not the end of the sentence) and a refresh rate of 100+. Depends on what your going for picture quality or that head shot most pro gamers and up will say CRT/DLP for more common people/gamers LCD is the way to go. How can I improve my signal strength with a 900mhz wireless video baby monitor?

dcigary

We recently purchased a wireless video baby monitor, and although it does work, there is significant interference in the signal due to my computer room with several PC's and servers. Is there a way to boost this signal to compensate for the interference, or to set up a repeater for the signal?

Answer
If you have interference any sort of repeater or amplifier will only repeat and / or amplify the interference (noise) along with the desired transmission (signal). The problem is likely a signal to noise ratio problem and interference.

I presume you have done all you can with repositioning the units to make them closer together without getting closer to the interference. If not try that

With the electronic interference it becomes even more difficult to address. A baby monitor is nothing more than a microphone in the baby's room and a speaker in the monitoring room linked wirelessly. Can you use a wired system? This may be your only practical choice. Perhaps a 5 MHz

I currently have a baby Quince Tree Monitor in an 80 gallon terrarium and i'm getting baby Black Throat Monitor tomorrow but i don't have a terrarium for him yet. I was wondering if i could keep these two babies together (If they get along) until i find a suitable cage for my black throat. Let me know!
P.S. There are tons of videos on youtube that show different monitor species interacting.
Thanks!

Answer
Anything is possible. But, monitors are usually territorial. They might not get along. You just have to try it out and see how they react to each other. Try putting them next to each other with a pane of glass between them and see what happens. Even if they don't fight you might have other problems. Black throats get stressed easily and sometimes won't even house with other black throats. Stress will cause all sorts of problems. Not eating, bad sheds. you just need to experiment. I would be surprised if it works. I assume, if you have done your research you know that a black throat will grow a lot faster then your quince. Raised properly he will be much larger within months. So don't plan on this being for very long.

How can I move without moving bedbugs in to?

Love

I have a four month old so I'm not sure how much spraying and bombing can be done. We are getting rid of the couch which is where they were first.
We have a lot of baby stuff, and all of it is coming with us, that's a crib, loads of clothes and diapers (I stocked up before she was born), toys, both plastic and stuffed animals. Gettin rid of the stuffed animals is not an option as they are very special.
In our room there are at least 200 books, both hard and soft cover that my husband will not get rid of. Then we have a night stand, dresser, and bed frame. There are also clothes and dream catchers.
We have two infant car seats that stay in the house unless we're going somewhere. A bassinet, bouncer and a large swing that has a frame I'm worried they could get into, the christmas tree and christmas ornaments are also sittin in a corner of the living room since we have no storage. We also have a large entertainmment center but I'm going to talk to my husband about getting rid of that.
Electronics: microwave, 2 coffee pots (my husand and I drink different stuff), a hair dryer, lap tops, baby monitor, tv, humidifier and DS. How do I make sure they're not in my electronics
oh, and some of my daughter's toys are stuffed animals with rattles in those, can those be dried in high heat?? And there are two guitars, one bass one electric

It is an easy job. If you stop bites immediately and leave CO2 traps. You will kill 100% bed bugs within 3 months. You don't need to dump anything.

Bed bugs hide behind wall, under carpet, in a laptop, and in everywhere. It is non sense to kill them by chemicals or steamer on contact only and let survived bugs bite and lay up to 300 eggs per bug.

Most people don’t know how to kill bed bugs inside laptops or how to stop bites immediately even bed bugs migrate from other apartments tonight. You don’t need to search any bed bugs and should have solved bed bug problem now if you received right tool today. Answer
Those kind of ants HATE baby powder...try sprinkling that around, it should get rid of them soon or you can use a mixture of 50/50 water and vinegar and pour it into a spray bottle. Spray the surface with the solution several times a day. Ants guide themselves with their scent. Vinegar has a natural chemical that alters ants' scent and which ants avoid. OR this one may sound crazy but...outside set a pop can with a tiny bit of pop left in it. They will end up going there instead of the home.

How to help a pregnant friend?

Rowan's Mo

I just found out my friend that's 3 months pregnant is in danger. She has a mass growing in or around her uterus (not sure exactly I heard this from my mom, whom she works with.) They are going to have to remove the baby at 6 months because of it. Is there any way I can reassure her that the baby should be fine and she will be too, without sounding like a liar?
I mean I'm sure the baby will be fine but I'm worried that if it's a cancerous mass and they can't do anything about it for 3 more months that I may lose her.

Answer
The baby is going to be very sick and will need to be in the NICU. The NICU is designed to provide an atmosphere that limits stress to the infant and meets basic needs of warmth, nutrition, and protection to assure proper growth and development. Due to many recent advances, more than 90% of premature babies who weigh 800 grams or more (a little less than 2 pounds) survive. Those who weigh more than 500 grams (a little more than 1 pound) have a 40% to 50% chance of survival, although their chances of complications are greater
Premature babies lack the body fat necessary to maintain their body temperature, even when swaddled with blankets. Therefore, incubators or radiant warmers are used to keep the babies warm. Incubators are made of transparent plastic, and they completely surround an infant to keep him or her warm, decrease the chance of infection, and limit water loss. Radiant warmers are electrically warmed beds open to the air. These are used when the medical staff needs frequent access to the baby for care.
Premature babies have special nutritional needs because they grow at a faster rate than full-term babies and their digestive systems are immature. Neonatologists (pediatricians who specialize in the care of newborns) measure their weight in grams, not pounds and ounces. Full-term babies usually weigh more than 2,500 grams (about 5 pounds, 8 ounces), whereas premature babies weigh anywhere from about 500 to 2,500 grams.
Premature infants are prone to a number of problems, mostly because their internal organs aren't completely ready to function on their own. In general, the more premature the infant, the higher the risk of complications.
A common treatable condition of premature babies is hyperbilirubinemia, which affects 80% of premature infants. Infants with hyperbilirubinemia have high levels of bilirubin, a compound that results from the natural breakdown of blood. This high level of bilirubin causes them to develop jaundice, a yellow discoloration of the skin and whites of the eyes. Although mild jaundice is fairly common in full-term babies (about 60%), it's much more common in premature babies. Extremely high levels of bilirubin can cause brain damage, so premature infants are monitored for jaundice and treated quickly, before bilirubin reaches dangerous levels. Jaundiced infants are placed under special lights that help the body eliminate bilirubin. Rarely, blood exchange transfusions are used to treat severe jaundice.
Apnea is another common health problem among premature babies. During an apnea spell, a baby stops breathing, the heart rate may decrease, and the skin may turn pale, purplish, or blue. Apnea is usually caused by immaturity in the area of the brain that controls the drive to breathe. Almost all babies born at 30 weeks or less will experience apnea. Apnea spells become less frequent with age.
Low blood pressure is a relatively common complication that may occur shortly after birth. It can be due to infection, blood loss, fluid loss, or medications given to the mother before delivery. Low blood pressure is treated by increasing fluid intake or prescribing medications. Infants who have low blood pressure due to blood loss may need a blood transfusion.
One of the most common and immediate problems facing premature infants is difficulty breathing. Although there are many causes of breathing difficulties in premature infants, the most common is called respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). In RDS, the infant's immature lungs don't produce enough of an important substance called surfactant. Surfactant allows the inner surface of the lungs to expand properly when the infant makes the change from the womb to breathing air after birth. Fortunately, RDS is treatable and many infants do quite well. When premature delivery can't be stopped, most pregnant women can be given medication just before delivery to hasten the production of surfactant in the infant's lungs and help prevent RDS. Then, immediately after birth and several times later, artificial surfactant can be given to the infant if needed. Although most premature babies who lack surfactant will require a breathing machine, or ventilator, for a while, the use of artificial surfactant has greatly decreased the amount of time that infants spend on the ventilator.
As for your friend, since they saw the mass and know how soon they need to get the baby out before it can cause major problems then she'll probably be fine. She may need to undergo chemotherapy and possibly radiation if it is cancerous but chances are they'll get it all. Hopefully they don't have to do a hysterectomy just in case the baby doesn't pull through at such an early age. Your friend is going to be going through a lot throughout that time and will just need a friend. Remember if she pushes you away it's only because life is going to be really difficult for her for awhile. Good luck to her and the baby.

Which wireless N router is best in your opinion?

best baby monitor download image

Vladimirs

I have DIR-655 Extreme N router, but whenever I download something wireless signal especially on 2-nd floor gets very weak or loosing signal completely on devices like Roku. I plan on replacing this router for: ASUS RT-N66U Dual-Band Wireless-N900 Gigabit Router. Hopefully it will transmit better signal, what do you think? Previously had experience which was not all the pleasant with Netgear and Linksys router ..of course they were not the top ones, but I am being cautious in my pick now.

Thanks!

Answer
The range of your wireless radio is limited to about a hundred feet. Once you exceed this range you can no longer connect to your wireless router.

Wireless signals are affected by many factors including wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc.

Depending on the size of your house and the factors listed above, you may need one or more wireless access points or wireless range extenders to cover all areas adequately.

Many wireless connections also experience interference from microwave ovens and cordless phones which interfere with the 2.4 GHz band.

Dual band routers have multiple wireless radios enabling broadcast on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands simultaneously.

Using the 5 GHz band cuts down on interference from cordless phones and microwave ovens..

Not all devices can use the 5 GHz frequency. Many laptops and other devices only operate at 2.4 GHz. Thus the need for dual band routers.

Just because a particular wireless router works good at one location does not guarantee that it will have similar performance in a different location due to variance in the factors listed above.

If you are getting a new wireless router try to centrally locate it up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

If you still have a weak wireless signal, there are solutions.

Devices such as wireless extenders can expand your wireless range if need be. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004YAYM06/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=excharge-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004YAYM06

The wireless range extender receives weak wireless signals and repeats them to extend the signal range to greater distances. Some models include 4 Ethernet ports in addition to the wireless radio.

Wireless routers are fairly inexpensive. http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=wireless%20router&url=search-alias%3Daps&sprefix=wireless%20ro%2Caps%2C490&tag=excharge-20

As far as the brand goes, the brand is not as important as the model. Some manufacturers release a good model but the next is crap. I would look at the Amazon reviews of models that interest you. Even if you don't buy from Amazon the reviews will tell you a lot about which models to avoid. Look for at least 15 or more reviews with a 4 star or better rating. Read a few and see if they sound like the particular model will work for your application.

Good Luck...

How do I set up my Mac's iCam to video my puppies while I'm at work?

sheprescue

I have 4 bottle babies I would like to monitor while I am at work to see what they are up to and I have an iMac with the iCam inside. Is there a way to set it up so I can view the puppies from my work computer?

Answer
You can download Orb for Mac here:
http://corp.orb.com/download/Orb20Setup.dmg
which will let you stream just about anything from your computer (including a webcam) to a browser, your phone, gaming console, etc.
As long as your work doesn't block it, you can get to the stream by logging into mycast.orb.com and opening the stream with your work computer's video player, like windows media player on windows.
If it is blocked and you have a capable phone, like an iPhone, BlackBerry, etc. you can watch it there.

Do you believe in using electronics as baby-sitters?

iAnswer

Of course, many of you will answer "no" to this question, but realistically a large chunk of Americans do it.

Put on TV all day for toddlers.
Hand over the iPads.
Hand over the smart phones with games.

This stuff wasn't around when WE were toddlers.

In my opinion, children, young young children shouldn't be exposed to the electronics at all. But you can't hide it, so maybe monitoring the usage to a time limit a day, or a week.

What's your opinion? Are you one of those electronic babysitters?

All opinions respected!

Answer
Im in Australia and I will happily admit that my nearly 3 year old gets our Ipad and our Iphone if I need to get something done, normally maximum of 30 minutes, most definately not all day! And its a distraction/something fun for them to do while mummy is busy and cannot play with them right away.

Once my jobs are done, it's right back to playing on the swings/drawing/painting/tea party's/building cubbies etc..

Proving I'm primary caregiver in possible custody case?

Joe

I love my wife dearly but I am having trouble getting past some things about her. Mainly he lack of support and contribution to our marriage. I am with her mainly because of our 1 year old daughter. She is the same way in fear that if we divorced I would receive custody. I am upset at her neglect towards our child. Every morning I have to wake up with our daughter and my wife acts like she can't hear the baby monitor or me shaking her to get up. Even when I don't feel well, I have to get up with her, because my wife won't. Then, she pays no attention to her. She does not work and gets up and goes to the couch and grabs the iPad. Our daughter will be next to her crying and she pays no attention. She leaves her unattended to smoke or something as well. She never gives her a bath and rarely changes her diaper, I do all these things despite being our only source of income. I'm fortunate my job allows me to get a lot done from home. I also do many of the feedings. The only time I don't is if I'm not home. When I ask my wife to give her a bath or feed her she asks why I can't do it? She is defensive about it and never accepts that maybe she could do more to help out. When I'm upset at our daughter not being fed consistently with the solids, not given a bath, etc., she always says she will be fine. Then my daughter will fall and hurt herself and get a bruise and my wife says the same thing or relates it to her being a baby. My thing is they happen in part because she doesn't pay enough attention to her, she is just there. I'm worried because I may go to work and there could be things on the floor she could put her in mouth because my wife doesn't pay attention and when I get on her about it, she just gets mad at me and doesn't accept responsibility. I don't know what to do. I have to take care of this child. I am her primary caregiver. How can I prove this?

Answer
Take your little daughter to a physician, and talk to the Doc about this and get some counsel. I would do what he says. Either line up a babysitter while you work, or take her to a trusted relative. She cannot be lieft with your wife, as she seems incapable of looking after anyone. Unable to respond normally to a child, and in her own world. She seems very depressed. You need to take care of your baby and get her to a safe place while you work.

hi, I am 4 weeks 3 days preganant, LMP was 12/2/2013(without any doubt).Since day before yesterday i started having crampy lower abdomen pain for which i consulted my OBGYN, She urgent made me undergo the TVS which revealed pregancy of 5weeks 5days (no idea, how ?ultrasongraphist told me its all based on measurement , though I am pretty sure about my LMP dates) with the left side corpous leuteal cyst and just the gestational sac without fetal pole & no Yolk sac was visualised , which apparently should have been noticed till now according to the doctor,he told me tht he will repeat again the usg after 5-6days for the confirmation, ans it could me blighted ovum..on review with the my Gyanac, she told me tht we will go with the LMP dates as they r more realiable n will repeat the scan after 10 days. she is put me on complete bed rest with TAB SUSTEN 200MG & suggested that the crampy lower abdominal pain resembling PMS is all because of the corpus leuteal cyst and i might have to bare with it till my 1st trimester, she told me that with dates we don't expect anything more then the gestational sac at this moment.I have started with susten thrice daily, but i am too puzzled whom to believe and stressed out, as i am aware of the fact that that USG finding in early pregnancy are more accurate then the LMP.What should i do?please guide me properly,I can withstand the reality and be prepared for the worst, please guide me in proper way?is it blighted ovum? As far as i know that usg is always less than that LMP date, then why in my case it is coming more? I am to stressed, plz help me out asap..
its not December but 12th feb(LMP was 12th feb. 2013). No they didnt get any hcg levels checked.
thanx for those sweet words.but do u think its pretty okaay, my gestational sac measures 10mm acc to usg report?which makes its 5 weeks 5 days on the day when usg was done..though with lmp its just about 5 weeks now...here while surfing net i came across the fact that yolk sac develops when the gestational sac is over 8 mm.i m freaking out to the core.just keep on thinking about this all the day....

Answer
I really think your physician is worrying you too soon. We didn't see my baby until just about nine weeks! I had to turn down the D&C at seven and eight weeks. Yes, this may end in miscarriage but they really cannot know that for sure before nine weeks or so. Don't be afraid to get a second opinion. Also, keep in mind once the gestational sac is visualized, many doctors stop taking hCG levels because they can rise, plateau or drop and still be normal. Unfortunately, time is the only true test of a blighted ovum. Stay monitored and, as with any pregnancy, please be seen right away if there are complications. I do hope you get better news soon!

Oh, an just read your additional details. At my eight week ultrasound, my gestatational sac measured 21.5mm and looked completely empty. One week later at 28.5mm, they found my little one. Hang in there. Saying a prayer for you!

What age did you stop using a monitor for your baby/toddler?

Texas girl

My daughter is almost 18 months and I still use a baby monitor. It makes me feel a lot better to have it on, especially at night because her door is closed and I have a floor fan going for white noise. I have no idea when I'll stop using it, but probably not anytime soon. I was just curious how old your LO was when you stopped using one.

Answer
My twin boys are almost 5yrs old and I still have a monitor in their room. I like to hear what's going on in there, especially when they are playing in their room and I'm 2 floors away doing laundry in the basement. My husband and I actually enjoy listening to their conversations after we put them to bed, and if they start playing around too much we can go up there and tell them to get to sleep and we can hear if they get out of bed.

My monitor lizard is cold and stiff (but alive) and I was wondering if I could keep his lights on overnight to keep him warm? If this helps, I fed him fish today

Answer
You should not be using any form of heat that produces light at night. You need a ceramic heat emitter and thermostat set to 75ºF.
How would you like to try and sleep or rest with bright lights switched on 24 hours a day ?

What's the best free security software to download onto a PC?

corby_edou

I'm getting a new laptop, a Dell Inspiron 17, and I won't really be able to afford security software that you pay for. But I've heard that you can get good security software for free online. So what's the best legit security software that you can download for free?

Answer
Consumer Reports's top honors 2009 went to a free three-pack of Avira's AntiVir antivirus program, Microsoft's Windows Defender antispyware software and the Spamfighter antispam program.

Avira AntiVir
Its scans are flexible, allowing the user to fully scan both internal and external hard drives, run a preloaded scan--for rootkits, for example--or customize a scan. The latest version introduces antispyware protections, scanning tech that can crack open "locked" files, improved internal security to prevent AntiVir's files from being maliciously altered, and one-click threat removal--no more baby-sitting. AntiVir is still challenging to fully uninstall. Despite these hang-ups and the nag screen that follows definition file updates, AntiVir offers such effective protection and a well-rounded set of features that as long as the updates keep coming, it'll be our first line of defense.

Windows Defender is software that helps protect your computer against pop-ups, slow performance, and security threats caused by spyware and other unwanted software by detecting and removing known spyware from your computer. features Real-Time Protection, a monitoring system that recommends actions against spyware when it's detected, minimizes interruptions, and helps you stay productive.

SPAMfighter has partnered up with Microsoft to build the strongest, safest, and most effective anti spam filter on the market. If you use Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows Mail or Thunderbird and you want to get rid of spam, just install SPAMfighter

what should I write about in my research paper?

Taylor C

I have chosen the question : are we too dependent on life simplifying devices? Im not looking for someone to write my paper just I want to know if anyone has any Idea about some things that I should touch on in my paper

thanks in advance.

Answer
Hi Taylor,

Yes, I believe we are (too) dependent on life simplifying devices. I've bracketed the word 'too' because I believe there are some devices that add to daily life stresses and yet have a place in our life style.

Take Communications:
I guess the ability to be able to communicate with and actually see the person you are communicating with (Skype) is really a marvelous experience. (My daughter lives in Dublin Ireland and I live in Perth Western Australia, so we connect frequently using Skype).

If we look at 'e-mail', it can be seen as a 'blessing or curse'. A blessing for the speed of sending messages and receiving replies'. A curse for people who work, because in today's business climate where time = profit, many senders expect a prompt reply and this increases the stress and work-load of the recipient.

Home Appliances:
Again, the speed of preparing meals, boiling water, cooking and cleaning all are made possible through the use of modern devices.

The drudgery of laundry compared to a time before the development of 'washing machines' is a boon to those who have to do the laundry.

Devices that help to monitor that a baby is sleeping safely, that help people with 'sleep apnea disorders' offer an early warning in the event of something going wrong.

Similarily, devices that provide an 'early warning' system for the elderly who live alone or who are impaired in some way, provide a measure of early warning and not least, comfort for their families.

In the home: Smoke detectors are essential safety protectors.

Hope this helps.

How would you start this novel? Would you read it? (Continued in additional comments)?

Lucy

I have a novel that I'm writing. I can't think of a good beginning. Help?
----
The year is 2096 in an alternate world that greatly differs from our own.
European democracy has completely crumbled. The leaders were corrupt and greedy, always increasing taxes until most of the continent is impoverished, starving, homeless and unemployed. Death and disease run rampant throughout the cities, and the economy is in shambles. The people no longer trust the government and are in agreement that they needed a better leader. However, no one wanted to step up and start overthrowing their government. Except for one brave man in Russia.
The man was a high-ranking army official, and he gave speeches to his men on how the time for a new kind of leadership was upon them. With his charisma, he convinced the army to help him overthrow the Russian government. It was a bloody revolution in which many people were injured or killed. The army made the citizens relocate to save the people, but drafted the strongest young men that they could find. After a bloody coup d’état, the brave man established himself as the tsar.
After the new tsar helped rebuild the economy with his advisors (the men he trusted most after the revolution) and the level of hunger, unemployment, and homelessness decreased drastically, the other European countries began to start military takeovers themselves, reestablishing monarchies in every country in Europe.
The new Europe is clean and peaceful. The media is heavily censored, as are school history textbooks. The textbooks over-dramatize and exaggerate the democratic government’s atrocities, and the heroes of the revolution are greatly glorified. The people are taught that the monarchs are close to gods, and that the countries they live in are perfect utopias. The information they receive or send on their cell phones is heavily monitored by the government. New Europe is a prospering and happy place to live.
Where there are royal families, there are heirs in need of spouses. The heir’s parents are in charge of finding someone who is good enough to marry their son or daughter. That’s where the Reproducers come in.
When the royal families had just been established all across Europe, Ian Lewis was visiting the Irish royal family, to whom he was a close friend. The prince of Ireland was ranting to Lewis about how his son, the heir, was in utero, and how he had to find him an heir. This sparked an idea in Lewis: he could breed spouses for heirs, should his wife agree to be the surrogate.
Lewis went and asked his wife if she would be interested in being the surrogate. She desperately wanted children but couldn’t have any of her own, so she agreed almost immediately. Mrs. Lewis had an artificial female embryo implanted in her, and soon, the Lewis’ were moving to a secluded part of the United States. The baby was born, and the Lewis’ raised her to be a Spouse. She was raised to be elegant and a good wife. The Irish royal family found the Spouse perfect, and soon the word spread. The Reproducers soon became a rich and popular family business.
The current Reproducers are Michael and Cynthia Lewis, who carry on the tradition well. Their daughter is Katherine Lewis, who is betrothed to the heir to the Russian throne, Leonas. She is quickly approaching her eighteenth birthday, and is one of the best Spouses in the company’s history. She’s visited Russia multiple times a year, and considers Leonas to be her best friend. They’ve been together secretly since she was fifteen and he sixteen.
It’s two weeks before Katherine’s eighteenth birthday when she moves to Russia permanently. She quickly changes her name to Ekaterina Mikhailovna, and becomes fairly popular with the Russian citizens, who have nicknamed her Katya. Katya immediately enjoys her new home and her husband-to-be.
Three days before she turns eighteen, the current tsar dies of pancreatic cancer. Katya and Leonas are stunned, but agree that they should marry as soon as possible. They get married on her birthday in an almost impromptu ceremony. Later that evening, Leonas is crowned the tsar.

This life is not as Katya expects. She had spent her life learning everything from Russian history from old European history textbooks. She had learned politics, leadership skills, everything that she could possibly need. She expected, as tsarina, to have more of a political hand. Instead, she is expecting to do the frivolous things that she had never enjoyed. Expectations for Katya are elevated to keep a perfect palace, have children, and maintain a perfect aesthetic appearance.
She is exhausted. To make matters worse, Leonas wants to extend the censorship of the Russian people to a more personal level. Things that they write and speak to each other will be closely monitored to ensure loyalty to the royal family. It’s almost a Soviet level of censorship. Katya, used to the free speech culture of the United States, wants to convince her husband otherwise. All eyes are on her. Can she maintain her image, and attempt to defy the tsar?

---
Also, this takes place in the winter time, in St. Petersburg

Answer
Hmm, kind of like a modern day Esther. I like the premise, but there isn't enough conflict. Everything is peachy except she is forced to live in luxury and doesn't get a political opinion? Not enough. You need something else. Like maybe she finds out after she is married that she isn't a company girl after all. The surrogate had sex with a Russian reporter and that is her father, not the factory girl everyone think she is. She runs into her family, her father has been tortured and maybe killed because he tries to speak out and resists the censors. So now the whole thing is personal and the Tsar isn't the wonderful man she thought he was. But he's not totally evil either. Can she stand up for her people?

You should start your story with her birth. In a super sterile factory room, whisked away, her mom doesn't get to hold her. They discover something (we don't know what) panic and decide to cover it up. Flash forward to her in the same factory environment getting ready for a visit from Leonas, coming to get her as she moves to Russia.

Baby Monitor Help!?

Hi Ya'll

My monitor doesn't pick up voices or other peoples monitors, but it makes this really load noise spontaneously from "cell phone waves". It makes the same noise that your t.v. does right before someone calls you (if you have a new phone/bluetooth - not sure what sends these waves). My baby monitor picks them up at an extremely high volume - even when our phones are off.

Please, can someone who's had this problem and found a solution help?

Answer
Its your cell phone posting to the nearest tower dont put your phone near your monitor.
