Baby monitors & strangers?

Q. Ok so i just found out that strangers can see your baby if you have a video monitor!!!! U can change the channels and pick up other babies that are close by! CREEPY!!! There was a big thing about it on the news! They also hear everything! I read somwhere that if you have a DIGITAL video monitor you are safe and other people arnt able to see your baby! Does anyone know if this is true or not about the digital monitors? Id feel much safer having a video monitor on my baby so I can actually see her, but if a stranger can see her too ITS NOT WORTH IT!!!

Answer
As far as I know, as long as it's a closed circuit then you should be fine. So if it's connected with a cable, there's no picture being broadcast and no one but you would be able to see. But if it's a wire-less version someone could look if they have something that would pick up the signal. If I was going to do a video monitor like that I'd actually get a security camera and set it up like that. To me though, there was no reason to have a video monitor. The sound monitor worked fine. :)

Add: Considering the number of burglaries that happened a few years back from people copying the signal from garage door openers and using that to open them and get into the house, I dunno. A video monitor that shows a burglar when I'm with my baby and alone would worry me a bit. *shrugs* But that's just me. I've read the police monitors around here and there have been increases in burglaries that happen when the people are home.

For me, I can tell when my baby is crying and when she's talking or singing. I just listen to her voice.

Are plain, old baby monitors adequate?

Mariposa

I'm being a bit proactive and have decided to educate myself on all these baby gadgets. I had a pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage, so even though I was only pregnant a short time, I remember how stressed I was trying to figure out all of this stuff.
So my question is... I thought baby monitors were a dime a dozen. Never knew there were motion sensors, 49 mhz and 900 mhz, video, laptop viewable, etc etc etc. The reviews saying how some mother's felt their babies lives were saved by the motion sensors got me into "paranoid-mommy-to-be" mode. When I was little, everyone had those Graco, lights when the baby makes noise versions. Does anyone find that these are perfectly adequate for their babies, or are the motion sensors/video models really a better choice? Keeping in mind that I'm trying to restrain myself from one day spending thousands of dollars on things a baby will use for a year. :)

Thank you!

Answer
I didn't use one - we live in an apartment, were never going to be that far from the baby, I'm skeptical about gagetry, and I had a sixth sense that alerted me whenever my little one had a hiccup in the next room.

If I'd had a big house I might have gotten a simple monitor, but I think a lot of these things are designed to separate you from your wallet ...and will surely rob you of more sleep than you can afford in general.

Just my $.02 - and I know how it feels to be prenatally paranoid. I'm sure I had plenty of my own issues although this wasn't one of mine. :)

Which baby monitor should I buy?

Martha

Hello!
My daughter is 4 months old and realized we've not got a baby monitor! I donât want to be spending too much but after some research I see there is a huge difference in prices from about $30 - $200s.
So what would you recommend, I want a video monitor which doesn't need to have lots of fancy features, only a reliable one.

Thanks!

Answer
I really searched about baby monitors before we bought ours. So here are my tips:

Before buying one,
Think what you need:
Do you want a video or sound only monitor? Do you want motion sensor feature etc.

Know your house and neighborhood, and other wireless devices:
Are walls thick, and do you live in a place with lots of parents. If so select a long range one with multichannel option. If not you will always experience interference problems. Chose a digital baby monitor!

I've been using a video one called Motorola MBP36 - its really good actually and has night vision which is a definite plus, it looks a bit like a really big ipod, which is kind of cool. I live in a house with thick walls and use it with no problem and even in long range the sound and video is very clear. It has many other features too like night vision and temperature alarm.

So I really recommend you to buy a motorola mbp36 baby monitor as Iâm very happy with it.

What is the best baby monitor out there?

KanKan

Im going to be a first time mom & my baby's nursery is on a different floor in my house. Im looking for the best portable baby monitor, possibly a picture one. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Answer
I would go for a basic sound only monitor. When I was setting up my nursery we bought a motion and sound monitor. I found it to be useless for a new born as the baby was too small to set it off. It needed an adult or something bigger to set it off as it needed big movements (a hand waving in front of it.) I have one by fisher price that came with 2 speakers and the base. It is really good and picks up all sounds (it is so sensitive that it picks up the grand father clock chiming in the dinning room!) I love it. It only cost us about $80 from baby target.

Baby monitor for ipad?

N

I am looking for a baby monitor camera to use on my ipad. The one I have now uses a monitor screen but my house is too big and it is now out of range. I want a monitor to use with wifi so I can see my baby on my ipad. I would like one with the same features as my current one. One that pans, and I can talk back to the baby when shes crying. I've found one so far, (Motorola Blink1 Wi-Fi Video Camera for Remote Viewing with iPhone and Android Smartphones and Tablets ) but looking for other options and personal feedback. Thanks!

Answer
I have Foscam ip camera at home and still using it after a year. Initial setup wasn't easy, but when you're done with setup it works properly. Here you can find more info on baby monitors / cameras : http://babyneedslist.com/health-and-safety-products-baby-monitors/

how to house a Savannah Monitor? 10 pts?

Clark

I just ordered a baby sav monitor, i will be keeping it in a 20 gal for a bit until i figure out where and what the next permanent enclosure will be. Where do you house an adult one? i'm thinking of emptying out one of my closets and having that be it's viv, but i'm not sure. what do most people do in terms of housing adult sav monitors? thankss

Answer
Click on "Images of Savannah Monitor enclosures." you will see several dozen different designs. Figure your lizard will get 4 feet long, so pick a big design. It's easier for you to pick one of the "floor models" on this website than me telling you you have to have so and so. you can take good featured and combine them in one enclosure.

The two most critical things are that it has to have a good basking light, and a Uv B 5% bulb on 10 hours a day. The website is a good interior decorating guide for the rest of the stuff.

Do I really need a baby monitor?

Scarlett

I'm looking at what I still need to get for my baby and I'm wondering if I really need a baby monitor? We live in a single level apartment and will continue to live in apartments and I believe the only time I wouldn't be able to hear him is if I'm in the shower but I have really intense hearing for example if I hear my cat meow at night I wake up lol. I'm just wondering if its something you actually need or if its more for people who have bigger homes who maybe may not be able to hear what goes on in the house? Just looking for peoples personal experiences. Thank you!

Answer
If you are in a smallish house, and baby will always be with in range, then I wouldn't bother.
We never had one with our first in our old house, as our rooms were RIGHT next to each other, and even with the door closed, we could hear him snoring!
However, we are in a different house now and I am due in 10 weeks and I have a monitor for when I start sleeping our 2nd son in his room, as it's at the other end of the house.

savannah monitor question?

Danimal

What's a good setup for a baby sav? and an adult sav? when hes an adult he will be housed outside.

Answer
My baby is in a 30 gall with clacisand and playsand at bottom then top is eco earth. A big water dish, a regular reptile light and uvb (uvb not nessisary) and thts about it. I know that a custom cage should be 8x4x4 good luck

I need a new Baby Monitor..Which one?

Aubree's M

Right now, we have the fisher price lights & sound monitor. It is in the process of dying. :-(
Aubree is 14 1/2 months old. I was thinking about NOT buying another one but her bedroom is on the other side of the house and if she were to cry at night, we would barely hear and it certainly would not wake us!

So, what do you recommend? Links are appreciated! :-)

Answer
I have a Fisher Price monitor. I'm honestly not sure which one. It was a gift from my sister. It's the biggest piece of crap I've ever owned and I've only owned it for 4 months!! It looks nice and everything and if it worked the way it's supposed to it would be an awesome monitor, but it loses signal way too easily, the picture is horrible, and if it's not on the charger it dies within an hour. I hate it. I wouldn't recommend this monitor to my worst enemy. And it sounds like if yours had died already, then Fisher Price is not a very good monitor brand. I would stay away from that particular brand. My sister is still using the same monitor with my nephew since he was born and he'll be 3 years old in July. I wish I knew what brand it was. Sorry I wasn't more help. My only advice to anyone is stay away from Fisher Price baby monitors!!

I keep hearing these weird noises in my grandparents basement?

Miranda

Like, my grandparents live in a big house. They remodeled their basement 2 years ago and it looks really good. But every time I walk past it I hear these weird noises. Like shattering of glasses. I run back up stairs and forget about it cause it's kinda creepy. Or when my grandma asks me to go turn off the light I see like shadows from the corner of the room. What is it? Is it haunted?

Answer
Well, for starters: ghost are a reality, not just a TV idea. I know because I lived in a haunted house for over 7 years. I had seen or heard ghost on a daily bases. The thought of a ghost doesnt mean demon. Ghost are like the living; there are good ghost and bad ghost; I have witnesses both. Then there are demons;and if you believe in god you had better believe in the devil. If not thats ok to, because they surly believe in you.
I use to think that ghost were just for TV until I had the unfortunate pleasure of moving in with them. The answer to the question in the back of your mind is " YES" you can PISS Them Off; not a good idea unles you wanmt a good case of the willies.
There is also the possability that you caught a glimps of the gardian angels watching over. My second house; third ghost:` My daughter had a regular visitor untill she was 3 years old. I lived in a new house, so nobody died in there. Every day she had a conversation with someone. I could hear voices through the baby monitor. My daughter could describe the person and had a name also. I did not know the name and could not find any information on that person either. How many toddlers can make up a first and last name?

Frankly it really don't matter what anyone thinks of my story. I know the truth and that is enough for me. I do have another theroy; maby your just crazy,LOL. Seriouly though, you may just be parinoid. just kidding. enjoy your ghost.
