Best Baby Monitor?

@>*~Be@ut!

I am researching monitors. I am looking for one with a camera, but I know some of them work better than others. Any suggestions on which one gives the best picture? Which one has less static? I've heard so many different reviews. I found one that I really like....

http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2943603&fromRegistryNumber=44067222&product_skn=760504

But the price is a bit high. I am also looking for 1 that has the option to add a 2nd camera. I have a 3 year old daughter also, and it would be nice to be able to watch her too.

Answer
We own this camera and overall LOVE it. We really like the fact that the screen is large. We tend to get a clear picture although sometimes there is some flickering. We remedy this by just moving it a little bit. It does not pose much of a nuisance for us. We can also move it around the house and not worry about it sucking up a ton of batteries (this was a major issue with our previous monitor - it just gobbled up batteries). We have never gotten images of other people. No issue there.

Warning though: It does not have the best audio. The lowest setting is somewhat loud for my tastes. However, we did not care about the audio as we can hear our baby cry just fine. Also, there are also only two channels with this monitor so you don't have a lot of room to search for a better connection.

If you want great audio to go with the screen, I would recommend looking into some monitors with small screens. The only downside to those is the battery issue.

On a final note, I would absolutely recommend investing in a video monitor. We used to have a regular audio monitor but kept rushing in every time we heard the baby cry. Unfortunately, many times she was just yelling in her sleep and we were the ones waking her up. The video monitor allows us to see if she is really awake or just in transition sleep. Lately, she has been rolling over in her sleep and it allows me to keep track of her. Great purchase!

Has anyone used a video baby monitor?

How do they work?
What are the pros and cons?
I am thinking about buying one that you can have two monitors and see two rooms at once and was wondering how many people prefer it.

Answer
Congrats on baby #2!

I couldn't live with out my video monitor!! I have the Summer Infant Day & Night Handheld Color Video Monitor. The picture is so clear both at night and during the day. I love being able to check on my baby with out waking her. I don't even have to get out of bed unless she really needs me! I think if I only had the audio, I would have been getting up a lot more often to investigate every sound, especially during the first few months. The handheld part has a button on top so you can turn off the video screen if the light bothers you at night. Then if you hear something you feel you need to check on, simply click the button and the video comes back on. I read the reviews for this product. Many people say they could not get a signal. I never had a problem. I also read that they can interfere with wi-fi. My husband is a web developer... he never would have allowed wi-fi interference!

I highly recommend this monitor to all my friends. The only con I can think of is that I have had to change the channel due to static. Seriously, it's a flick of a button and I've had to do it maybe 3 times in 7 months. No biggie! I know you can get an extra camera for this monitor, but I don't need one yet. Here is what one person commented: "We bought a second camera to go with the monitor we already had. I love being able to switch back and forth between my two kids' rooms. Only issue is if the monitor is too close to one camera, you can have interference when trying to check on the other one."

Angelcare Movement Baby Monitor?

The Bucket

I'm looking at baby monitors and have some questions about the Angelcare Movement Monitor...so if you have it I would really appreciate some answers! It says that the monitor can detect when your baby stops moving, but wouldn't it be going off all the time when the baby is sleeping? Or is it so sensitive that it detects breathing? And how is the picture quality/night vision picture quality? And is the zoom feature good or does it just make the picture more grainy? Do you recommend this monitor? THANKS!

Answer
I have the angel care monitor without the camera, the way it works is that it has a pad that needs to be put under the mattress, it cant be used under memory foam mattresses it has a sensitivity dial to work under diff mattress types and to detect tiny babies as well. it basically picks up babys breathing and if they have an irregular breath it alarms at 15 sec to warm you with a beep, then if the baby doesnt move again in 5 more seconds it alarms loud to wake the parent and the baby.

Mine worked a dream i followed the instructions carefully and it was brilliant as it also monitored the babys room temp and warned me if it got too hot or cold. the sound was great. we had 2 false alarms because my baby was 6lb and moved to edge of cot where monitor didnt pick up her delicate movements but at least i knew it worked.

i wouldnt have been able to sleep without it to be honest i give it 5 stars, the monitor version came out this year and has been awarded best buy so im guessing its good as well.i would highly recommend it.

Baby monitor with camera?

Q. I'm having my first child in December and my mom and I are looking at baby monitors and we found on that had a camera and shows you a live image of the baby. My mom was pretty impressed by this as they weren't around when I was a baby. But they are outrageously priced! I think she wants to get one for me anyway, as this is her first grandchild and my mom's the type to spend way too much. So I was wondering does anyone else have these? Worth the price? Are they any good?

Answer
I actually did this, but I used a wireless ip camera. When my son was 9 months old we had to move from a condo to an apartment with no washer/dryer hookup. So I had to leave the apartment to do the laundry a couple doors down and needed a way to see what my son was up to in between loads. I agree that the video monitor setups are very steep. And something worth noting is that every single one I've seen on shelves is not a secured network. So that video signal is open for others to view nearby. I use(d) a dlink IP cam that is networked securely to my home wireless network and accessible via smartphone. It cost about 30 bucks and 15 minutes of setup and I was up and going. I've had this setup for almost 3 years now and it's been helpful. I don't think I've had any memorable absences, but it's a nice piece of mind to make sure my son was sleeping safely when I had to leave the apartment for a moment.

Are there any dual camera baby monitors?

Turk II

We use a simple wireless video monitor to keep tabs on my 2 year old son while he's napping and sleeping. Eventually he'll have a little bro or sis that we'll also want to keep tabs on. Are there any baby monitors that incorporate two cameras viewable on one remote monitor?

Answer
The one from Summer does. You can put one video on A and the other on B. Then on the monitor you can switch from viewing A or B. I figured this out when my SIL came for a visit and brought her video monitor. We had my daughter on video A and her son on B.

What is a baby monitor and how it works?

Amina L

I have an elderly client with this baby monitor. Is it possible to move it just like any other electronic by unplugging it and plugging it in another room? So that if I move from room to room I can still monitor that person. I do not want to mess with it by taking it off without knowing anything about it.
I would like to plug it in another room where I can turn on light and read, not to disturb the client and still hear hear her via the monitor.

Answer
A baby monitor can be 1 way , 2 way, an now they even have one with a camera attached. It usually has a base that you keep with the baby and a hand held you can walk around with. The 2 way allows you to hear the baby and speak back if you want. They work really well and its a great way to keep track of babies and small children while in another room or doing house work.
I have used these many times working in healthcare having elderly patients.

What Should I Get My Sister For Her Baby Shower?

cece101200

My sister is pregnant with her first child, and despite economic times I really wanted to get her something nice and memorable. I was thinking of a video baby monitor with a camera and television screen, so she could actually see what was going on with her child. I was also thinking of getting her one of those digital video cameras to tape some memories of her kid, parents love that.

I think each gift would be nice, but I don't know what would be a good one for me to get. What do you think would be a good gift?

Answer
Something practical would be nice. Honestly, out of the two options you gave I would go with the latter. I basic monitor works just as well (heck, if she lives in tight quarters, she might not even need one. Believe me, a baby will make sure you can hear it cry). Something like a baby swing would be nice, also. Or a bunch of things she will need like diapers, baby wipes, different baby medicines, etc.

Baby monitor with web connection where the in home monitor will work even if my internet goes down?
Q. I am looking for a reliable video baby monitor that I can view on my computer at work, but that is independent in that it will continue to work as a monitor even if my internet connection goes down.
I already found one , the Sassy Web Watch Video Monitor, so I know they exist. I am looking for more options...

A. I think you are a bit in the future. Internet connections have to come from somewhere. Do you know how expensive a camera with its own internet connection would be? My home comcast goes down. My cell phone's 3G goes down. Even if you get a dedicated T1 line to your house it can and will still have down time.

Usually holes in the internet services are less then a minute long. While I realize a lot can happen in 1 minute, I doubt your nanny will be wonderful the whole day then magically know the net is down and start beating your kid.

Question for people that know anything about electronics or batteries?
Q. I have a baby monitor system and the camera plugs into the wall. I want to hook it up to batteries so that it is wireless. The input of the a/c adapter for the camera is 120VAC and the output is 12VDC. Would it work if i cut the 2 wires going to the black a/c adapter box thing, put one wire on the end of 8 connected AA batteries and the other wire on the other end of the 8 connected AA batteries?

A. yes you can... but.....

You need to know how much current the camera uses, this will tell you if you can use AA batteries of if you need D batteries.

The wall wart has a positive and a negative. You can cut the wire away from the wall wart and connect it to a battery box.

You can buy the battery box from:

How safe is my baby cam/monitor?

Q. I have a baby monitor/camera and was wanting to know how safe it is. I have seen programs where people with back-up cams have picked up monitors in peoples homes. Is this true and if so, what can I do to protect my home or make it harder to pick it up outside of my home.

A. i have one and i love it mine runs on batteries so i can carry it with me all of the time i can hear and see him breathing which i love he is 4 weeks old now but the first few days i didn't want to leave his side even to go to the bathroom so it put my mind at ease a lot i have a mobi cam i love it i researched consumer reports it got the best rating. it even can hook up to ur computer with a password so u can watch from ur cell phone
