Question about Movement and sound Baby Monitors?

Does anyone have the "breathing baby monitors" That will sound an alarm if the baby stops breathing? Im curious if they actually work, or if there are alot of false alarms. Ive been reading about one called angel care.. the under mattress pad is supposed to detect all the baby's movement including breathing.

ive got 4 kids, and brought it when i had my 3rd,,, it really gives peace of mind,,, with my first 2 kids i used to check if they were breathing 24-7
with the angelcare, u hear every breath they make with the movement ticking sound,,, its fantastic

ive had probably 5 false alarms,,, but researched that, and found out a baby can occasionally pause their breathing for 20 seconds,,, my babies were ok
but as much as i stress, the false alarms are nothing compared to the peace of mind i get from this monitor

my freind is a nurse at the childrens hospital,,, and even she has this monitor,, so its definately good

When do you get concerned about baby movement?

I am 27 weeks, from the start I feel the baby here and there throughout the day, sometimes one kick or a couple and at night. But I thought that around this time I would feel the baby all the time. Have any of you have none so active babies? I figure that maybe he does kick and I just don't feel it.

My baby girl didn't kick that much, but I knew it was normal for her. If your worried about it then it wouldn't hurt to call your doctor and see if you should go get monitored to make sure everything is going good and the baby isn't in stress.

When should I start letting my baby sleep in her nursery by herself at night?

My baby is currently nine weeks old, and sleeps in our bedroom in her bassinet. She just now has started sleeping through the night from 9-6. When should I put her in her nursery? When is it safest?

For my first, I had him in my room for 2 weeks. He then went into his own room in the bassinette, then at 4 weeks he moved to the cot.

For my second it was 2 days. My milk came in, then he was in his own room in the bassinette. I think he was only 7 days old when he moved to the cot.

For my third I think she was in the cot for her night sleeps from day 1. She was in the bassinette during her 'awake times' for the first 2 weeks, then after that I put her on a playmat on the floor.

Our nursery shares a wall with our bedroom. You walk out of our bedroom turn right, then you're face to face with the cot. I can hear every movement the child makes, and just to be sure, I used a baby monitor that could tell the temperature as well.
We sleep with our doors open too.

I have 3 children, and honestly, sleep is very important. I couldn't sleep while the baby was in our room because every time he/she changed breathing patterns I'd wake up and worry something was wrong.
For some people the 'separation' is better, makes them more relaxed around bub during the day etc. But for others, 4-6 months is normal to still be sleeping in the same room, or even co-sleeping in the same bed.

It's entirely up to you when you want to move your baby into the nursery. If you're not ready, then you should wait a while longer. If you are, then do it.

We are looking for a good, secure, low static monitor for our upcoming arrival. We also have a older son who we still use a monitor for, but that monitor is going out. Anyone have a two room system, or use two seperate monitors? If so what brands work well together?

We use the Angelcare Sight, Sound, and Movement Monitor. It's definitely pricey but wonderful because aside from having the breathing and movement detected, we can also see what's going on. When we did use only a sound monitor, we ran into our son's room with every sound he made (except he makes lots of sounds in his sleep, even cries out in his sleep), so with this we can look and see if he's awake or asleep before going in his room. Plus there's a talkback feature on it, so if he's really fussing when he wakes up, we can assure him over the monitor as we walk to his room. It is a secure monitor and on the quiet side. It also has a voice activation feature, but I'm not crazy about it because sound (even voice) cuts in and out with it. Either way, you can barely hear the white noise it lets off without the voice activation feature.

At what age did you stop using the tick alarm on your angel care baby monitor?

I have been using the angel care monitor with the tick alarm. Its a sensor to monitor the baby's breathing. My baby is now 6 months old and is starting to move all around her crib and when she gets in a corner the monitor doesn't pick up her movement and the alarm goes off. I am considering if i want to stop using it but I am scared of SIDS...

Most SIDS cases occur before the baby is 4 months old, after 6 months they're "out of the woods", then after 12 months they're okay. It's up to you, 6 months seems like the reasonable time to stop using it, but I can totally understand your concern - you're a mum and you worry like every other one of us.

Whenever you choose to stop using it, you'll wake up every 2 hours and listen to hear them breathing - like me! Lol.

What is the best baby monitor out there?

Q. Im going to be a first time mom & my baby's nursery is on a different floor in my house. Im looking for the best portable baby monitor, possibly a picture one. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

A. I would go for a basic sound only monitor. When I was setting up my nursery we bought a motion and sound monitor. I found it to be useless for a new born as the baby was too small to set it off. It needed an adult or something bigger to set it off as it needed big movements (a hand waving in front of it.) I have one by fisher price that came with 2 speakers and the base. It is really good and picks up all sounds (it is so sensitive that it picks up the grand father clock chiming in the dinning room!) I love it. It only cost us about $80 from baby target.

A. i have the Angelcare Deluxe Movement Monitor and it is the most amazing thing ever it tells you the temp in babys room has a night light and monitors babys breathing and if there is none for 15sec a warning beep goes off and after 20 the thing goes crazy. I love it. I dont worry about sids and have been able to sleep much more then with my 1st.

Q. We're welcoming a new edition in a few weeks and we have everything ready to go except the baby monitor. We live in a one story home and I would only need the monitor for when the baby's sleeping. All the bedrooms are on the same side of the house but I always take extra precautions. Thanks so much!

A. We got an Angelcare movement monitor and I swear by it. I'm a very anxious mom and it helped me get some sleep! Knowing that an alarm would go off if he stopped breathing was the only thing that stopped me from checking in on the baby 10 times a night. ;)

edit: The monitor was suggested by my son's neonatal surgeon, as he was premature...
