Whats the best baby monitor?

Kelly Vibe

I am having my first child soon and would like a monitor that has good sound and picture quality day and night so i can make dinner ect and just look at my hand held monitor instead of going in the other room to see why he is making noise.

Answer
angel care, i get so much more rest knowing that angel care is monitoring my baby girl, it takes a little bit to get used to adjusting the sensitivity of the monitor so you dont get false alarms but its the best monitor out there, plus you can use it on into the toldler years when your kido sneaks out of bed the alarm will sound,

the alarm sounds if the monitor does not detect motion or breathing after 20 secs

there is not picture on this monitor but rather a motion detection system, when you go to sleep at night you know rather or not your baby is still moving and ok

Has anyone used a video baby monitor?

Pregnant w

How do they work?
What are the pros and cons?
I am thinking about buying one that you can have two monitors and see two rooms at once and was wondering how many people prefer it.

Answer
Congrats on baby #2!

I couldn't live with out my video monitor!! I have the Summer Infant Day & Night Handheld Color Video Monitor. The picture is so clear both at night and during the day. I love being able to check on my baby with out waking her. I don't even have to get out of bed unless she really needs me! I think if I only had the audio, I would have been getting up a lot more often to investigate every sound, especially during the first few months. The handheld part has a button on top so you can turn off the video screen if the light bothers you at night. Then if you hear something you feel you need to check on, simply click the button and the video comes back on. I read the reviews for this product. Many people say they could not get a signal. I never had a problem. I also read that they can interfere with wi-fi. My husband is a web developer... he never would have allowed wi-fi interference!

I highly recommend this monitor to all my friends. The only con I can think of is that I have had to change the channel due to static. Seriously, it's a flick of a button and I've had to do it maybe 3 times in 7 months. No biggie! I know you can get an extra camera for this monitor, but I don't need one yet. Here is what one person commented: "We bought a second camera to go with the monitor we already had. I love being able to switch back and forth between my two kids' rooms. Only issue is if the monitor is too close to one camera, you can have interference when trying to check on the other one."

Hope this helps.

Best baby monitors?

Q. What baby monitor do you have or do you think is the best? There are so many different ones and I dont know which one to get. Thanks.

Answer
I have the simple FisherPrice system with one base and two "walkie talkies." I got that one because a lady at Babies R Us was returning the video monitor because she said it was a waste of money and you can never get a clear picture. Her sister had the one I mentioned and loved it. I also loved it was only $25.00.

Angelcare Movement Baby Monitor?

The Bucket

I'm looking at baby monitors and have some questions about the Angelcare Movement Monitor...so if you have it I would really appreciate some answers! It says that the monitor can detect when your baby stops moving, but wouldn't it be going off all the time when the baby is sleeping? Or is it so sensitive that it detects breathing? And how is the picture quality/night vision picture quality? And is the zoom feature good or does it just make the picture more grainy? Do you recommend this monitor? THANKS!

Answer
I have the angel care monitor without the camera, the way it works is that it has a pad that needs to be put under the mattress, it cant be used under memory foam mattresses it has a sensitivity dial to work under diff mattress types and to detect tiny babies as well. it basically picks up babys breathing and if they have an irregular breath it alarms at 15 sec to warm you with a beep, then if the baby doesnt move again in 5 more seconds it alarms loud to wake the parent and the baby.

Mine worked a dream i followed the instructions carefully and it was brilliant as it also monitored the babys room temp and warned me if it got too hot or cold. the sound was great. we had 2 false alarms because my baby was 6lb and moved to edge of cot where monitor didnt pick up her delicate movements but at least i knew it worked.

i wouldnt have been able to sleep without it to be honest i give it 5 stars, the monitor version came out this year and has been awarded best buy so im guessing its good as well.i would highly recommend it.

Fun Baby Shower Games?

having my baby shower for our baby girl, need some unique ideas of games to play, I like the diaper game idea with the candy bars, any others....??

Answer
Baby Shower Games and Activities

Who Can Make The Mommy-To-Be's Baby?
(Materials: Baby Magazines, Scissors, Glue Sticks, Paper)

Divide your guests into groups 3 and give each group 3 baby magaizines (you can get these for free, usually, at local pediatrician offices or even the local hospital). Have them cut out pictures of different baby parts (eyes, ears, hair, smile, body, feet, etc.) and put together a picture of what they think mommy's baby will look like. Have the Mommy-To-Be judge the final results based off of what she thinks the bundle of joy will resemble. Give prizes to the winning team. This is a lot of fun and a really popular (yet not overdone) baby shower game!

Letters to The Baby
As the guests walk to the table (or designated location)where the gifts are being placed.....have a special station set up on the side of the gift table. At this station have cute baby themed stationary laid out with some nice pens. Beside the stationary have a card out asking each guest to take a few moments to write a note to the new baby. When the guests have finished writing their notes, have a tray or basket provided to place them in. Once all the guests have written their notes....the hostess can then choose one or two, at random, to be chosen for a prize (this could be your shower's door prize). When the shower is over these notes can be placed in a scrapbook or album to be enjoyed by the parents now and by the baby years down the road. Sweet and sentimental and sure to be treasured by the new family!!!

How Many Diapers in the Diaper Cake?
If you have chosen to have a diaper cake at the baby shower, play a fun game where guests guess how many diapers are in the cake! Make sure your diaper cake provider tells you how many diapers they used (so you don't have to try and count them all yourself!). Better yet, order your cake from Diaper Cakes by Becca and the amount of diapers will be listed on the "recipe" included along with your diaper cake (and we always try to make it a random, not-easy-to-guess number!)! The guest that gets closest to the actual number wins a prize.

Baby Shower Bingo (a classic favorite!)
(Materials: Bingo Templates *see below* and pens or markers)

1) Print out a few more Bingo template cards than you think you will need.
2) Fill in the blank squares with registry items and common baby shower gifts (ie: diapers)
3) Distribute a Bingo Card and Pen/Marker to each guest at the baby shower
4) As the parents-to-be open their gifts the guests will mark their cards if they have it on there.
5) Whoever gets a completed row horizontally, vertically or diagonally will win a prize!

help baby savana monitor?

Pedro

can i keep it warm with just a heat pad. its a 10 gallon tank

Answer
The very simple basics for savs ~

~large custom enclosure (minimum 4x4x2)
~2 feet of diggable substrate (DIRT)
~A basking spot that achieves a surface temp of AT LEAST 130F (aim for 135 or so)

A 10g is not even a good starter enclosure for a sav. Heat pads are useless in a proper set-up. Invest now in the proper enclosure and husbandry equipment rather than having to continually upgrade to finally get to the proper enclosure. Here's a link to some great enclosures that are actually relatively cheap and work great ~

http://www.proexotics.com/FAQ2.html#lizard_monitorhousing

Read through all the lizard FAQs, it's got some great advice. Be aware that most monitor info online is crap. Before using any suggested husbandry read through the entire care sheet or article and see if all of the other info is any good.

EDIT: Posted my response before I read through your other questions. Take the monitor back and get a leopard gecko. You need A LOT more experience before taking on a monitor. Do research and get ahold of local keepers, visit them and observe how to care for a sav properly... Even better, volunteer with a reptile rescue. I work with one and I think that volunteers coming in and learning from hands-on experience is great, it means that I probably won't end up with one of their lizards later on because they know what they are getting into beforehand.

EDIT (AGAIN): VARANID ~ Thanks for catching my mistake on the size thing. ~ooops!!~ Am taking breaks from studying for PSYC and SOC tests by coming to Y!A, feeling a lil fried. :-) Posted a great size enclosure for a beardie, not monitors.

My ackies are doing amazing!! And yes, I'll be dealing with eggs soon. :~) Didn't even think about breeding conditions and dirt temps when answering this question.... Just pictured an enclosure that someone was trying to heat with only a UTH (have actually seen that one more than once in rescues!!). Thanks for your clarifications.

I just upgraded from a 1st generation to 3GS. I want to take my old iphone and use it as an educational device for my son - animal pictures, kid's songs, kid's games, etc. I'd even like to use it as a baby monitor if it will still function on wifi. My AT&T dealer said not to hook it up to itunes because it is deactivated. What does this mean? Is the phone still useful?

Answer
yes...when i used to work at best buy a kid stole a model iphone and it is able to be used as an ipod touch.

Do you think the Black and White monitor picture of a baby sonogram should change to full color?

How do you get better reception on a baby video monitor?

I just bought a Summer Video Monitor and it doesn't work without static between two rooms in our small condo. I am hoping there is a way to improve reception, because right now I can't even keep it on at night because the static noise is so great, and when I turn the monitor on the picture is pretty fuzzy and jumps in and out. Any advice?

Answer
Try unplugging any electronic devices between the transmitter and receiver, see if something is causing interference.

I need one that's clear and has a decent picture. I just really want to get the cheapest one I could but I don't want to compromise quality..links would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Answer
I got the summer day and night. it was a bit more than $100 but I am happy with it. the thing is that we really only use it at night, so the color aspect of it really doesn't matter much for us.
we bought ours new on ebay and saved about $50 off the price which got it close to the $100 you want to pay.

What lights should I have for a baby savannah monitor?

Q. I have a 30-40 gallon tank until my custom one is done and I have 5 lights I just don't know how to set up the cage and what lights go where. Pictures would help alot

A. Why FIVE lights ???

You only need ONE - a 160 watt mercury vapour UV & Heat Lamp such as the Zoo Med PowerSun lamp. This should also have a guard over it and switched on from 12 to 14 hours a day.
http://styr-paa-dyr.dk/upload/Krybdyr/Exo_Terra_Solar_Glo.jpg

Download and read these two booklets I have written:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/95075161/Care%20of%20Young%20Varanids%20v1-5.pdf
and
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/95075161/Raising%20Bosc%20Monitor%20Lizards.pdf

A reference book is also available to download and save to disc:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/95075161/The%20Savanah%20Monitor%20Lizard%20X.pdf
======================================================================
For a juvenile monitor lizard you need use a 48" x 24" x 24" (or larger) wooden vivarium with glass sliding doors for 1 or 2 Beardies, something like this:
http://www.reptilia.org.uk/ekmps/shops/thepetshop/images/vivexotic-vx48-wooden-reptile-vivarium-5397-p.jpg
Glass is not a suitable material to use for keeping high-temperature / desert living reptiles from Africa in !
Wood has better heat-retaining properties and will also stop your lizard having too much humidity in the enclosure. Glass tends to cause chest infections & skin conditions due to condensation and lack of ventilation.

Heating should be provided by a roof-mounted 100 watt or 150 watt ceramic heat emitter:
http://www.petsolutions.com/images/Products/15522044.jpg
or a reptile radiator
http://reptilekeeping.co.uk/images/eurorep/Radiator72.jpg

connect either device to a thermostat set at 75ºF. The probe should be sited 3" off the floor at the opposite end of the vivarium to the heater [the cool end].

It is ESSENTIAL that the heater is protected by a mesh guard to prevent your lizard burning itself:
http://www.customguards.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/wpsc/product_images/spotlight-guard-2-black.jpg
or
http://www.customguards.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/wpsc/product_images/reptile-radiator-guard-white.jpg

Day-time Ultra-Violet light, "normal" white light and basking spot heat should be provided by a 160 watt mercury vapour UV & Heat Lamp such as the Zoo Med PowerSun lamp. This should also have a guard over it and switched on from 12 to 14 hours a day.
