i need to know the safety on have a baby monitor on at all times?

lilchuckyb

Answer
I'm not sure if you are asking about the safety to the child of having a monitor on 24/7? There are a few actual safety concerns that you might consider. For example, babies are always in danger of electrocution and/or strangulation if electrical cords are within reach. If the monitor is on a bedside table, the young child could grab the cord and become entrapped. If the child were to chew on the cord, there is the danger of electrocution.

I don't know the actual physical harm to the child of these stray electrical currents in the air. (There is a name for this, but it escapes me.) I tend not to worry about those things.

The greatest danger I see to having and relying on a monitor 24/7 is the temptation to leave your child unattended for long periods of time. This can result in neglect to the child, and even in modest amounts this can seriously effect the development of your child.

Another danger is that a monitor works on only a couple of frequencies, which makes it very easy for neighbors to pick up the signals coming from your home. In terms of the least amount of "danger", this could cause static and annoyance to your neighbors. However, it does allow them to hear your family's private conversations and could alert intruders to your presence in or absence from your home.

I have relied on baby monitors a great deal in my experience raising our seven children. The monitors in my experience have been most helpful at nap time and bed time to help me in knowing if the other kids are quiet enough for the baby to sleep.

Use the monitor to your best advantage, but be aware of its position in the room and the fact that you are transmitting to the world. I wish you all the best in raising your young one.

Are there any good baby monitors out there?

We are looking for a good, secure, low static monitor for our upcoming arrival. We also have a older son who we still use a monitor for, but that monitor is going out. Anyone have a two room system, or use two seperate monitors? If so what brands work well together?

Answer
We use the Angelcare Sight, Sound, and Movement Monitor. It's definitely pricey but wonderful because aside from having the breathing and movement detected, we can also see what's going on. When we did use only a sound monitor, we ran into our son's room with every sound he made (except he makes lots of sounds in his sleep, even cries out in his sleep), so with this we can look and see if he's awake or asleep before going in his room. Plus there's a talkback feature on it, so if he's really fussing when he wakes up, we can assure him over the monitor as we walk to his room. It is a secure monitor and on the quiet side. It also has a voice activation feature, but I'm not crazy about it because sound (even voice) cuts in and out with it. Either way, you can barely hear the white noise it lets off without the voice activation feature.

Has anyone had problems with the Baby's Quiet Sounds Day and Night Handheld Color Video Monitor?

I bought this monitor 2 weeks ago and now it is not working. When I turn it on the video screen part won't come on. If it does it stays on for no more then 1 minute then shuts off. So basically I just have the sound part. Has anyone else had this problem? If you did, what did you do? I know I should contact the manufacturer but I was just curious if this has happened to anyone else.
They are not cheap monitors.

Answer
LOTS of people have reported problems with all brands of video monitors. Apparently, a technology that doesn't work very well when so cheap (cheap being a relative term).

dehydrated baby rabbit ?!?

Claire Mar

my bunny had its second litter of kits and one is very small compared to the others. i read that u should pinch the skin on the back of their necks and if it stays tent or takes a while to go down it is severely dehydrated. i was looking on this site and someone said to take the mum and the kit out and let is suckle. we done that and it suckled but about 10 Min's later it looked normal again. what should we do and if will the mum still feed the other kits seeing as she just fed one ???
it is a part of a litter of 6 as when we discovered them there was 9 but 3 were dead

Answer
Unfortunately this is quiet common with all types of baby animals, especially if it is part of a large litter, best thing you can do is just keep monitoring it, if it does get worse then you can substitute the mothers milk with baby formula but personnally i would only use this as an absolute late resort

video baby monitor for 18 month old? ?

Loving

Ok, so my son is 18 months and in the mornings, i can never tell what he's up to.. Hes quiet then you hear him giggling, i'll get up to get him, and he's passed out again! So we're arguing about getting the video baby monitor to keep an eye on him in the morning and after naps. He's about to be moved into a toddler bed, and i'd like to know what the heck he'll be doing when he gets up.. Sooo do you think it's worth the money or just a simple waste?

Answer
Why bother with a baby video monitor? He is 18 months old.

My brother and his wife had one with their child, it was at the side of their bed so they could see it easily - the funny thing was that if they looked past it, they could actually see the baby in bed! What a waste of good money, just to have the newest toy!

So, unless your room is on a different floor or is a long way from the baby's room, you really don't need one.

What are the monitors for?

*Ethans Mo

Ok, im 40w3d pregnant. The doctors called today and they want me to come in and get hooked up to some monitors to watch the babies heartbeat. Do these monitors tell them if im having contractions? What is the main reason they are doing this?

Also I have Bacterial cystitis. Its a bacterial infection, They called and told my fiance about it last night, and im waiting until today to ask them how they are going to treat it, but do you know? I'm sure they will have to give me medicine so I do not pass it to the baby but do they sometimes induce you early if you have an infection? I know he said If I was to have group strep b then they would induce me to make sure I get the medicine on time. Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks!!!!!!!

Btw: I have not been checked to see if I have dilated any, do you think he will do that today?
My water hasn't broken and still no mucus plug:(

Answer
The monitors wil check whether you are contracting, and they will also check the baby's heartrate and make sure that he/she is holding up ok in there. Probably just want to keep an eye on how things are going to see if they will need to induce any time soon. Regarding the infection, they may start you on antibiotics. Not sure if they would induce just because of the infection (I would think that the risk of passing the infection may increase during childbirth, when the baby will actually make contact with you outside the placenta, and they may try to get it under control prior to induction?). I would guess that you will get an internal check since you are past 40 weeks. Good luck! at 40 weeks 3 days, you will have a baby before you know it. Enjoy the peace and quiet and get some rest - baby will be here soon enough!

We're expecting a little girl very soon and are wanting to get a puppy for her to grow up with. We're wanting a dog that's not going to be too big and is more of a quiet dog. My boyfriend's also wanting to get a hairless cat once our daughter is older so I'm thinking this dog needs to be pet friendly also. What are some good choices to look into?

Answer
None --- absolutely none. You will have your hands full with the baby and hardly need to be training a puppy too.

On top of that, dogs can NEVER be left alone with young children, they need to be monitored so nothing happens.
The kid pulls the dog's tail, picks it up, gets bitten. Not the dog's fault, but dog gets dumped usually.

Our rescue never adopts to families with small children for that reason.

You have a LOT to learn about dogs to begin with, no dog comes "pet friendly" and quiet, you train a dog, takes patience, time and lots of effort.

Please, do yourself, your baby to be, and some poor dog a favor and wait until your child is at least 8 or so before you get a dog - you are being way too ambitious at the moment - concentrate on your new baby and forget pets right now. You would be unfair to your baby and the dog to have both at this time in your life.

What to expect and prepare for my pregnant dog?

I want her to be in best shape.. She is a chihuahua.

1. Is it ok we feed her cooked chicken breast pieces?
2. Does it have to be warm where she is? Im guessing yes
3. Tell me anything i need to know.

And 4, we have a professional coming over and we are gonna call him when she starts giving birth, but to prepare ourselves. She lives in the laundry room, nice and quiet and we talk her on walks daily.

Answer
Thats protein, yes thats fine for her!

Room temperature around 70-80 degress is good...

you must know that you need to monitor the feedings and make sure each puppie is drinking milk from the mom.

Vet bills are going to cost you, be ready

They will poop a lot, be ready to clean up a lot, get dog wipes to clean babies when they get poop on them

The mom will eat the egg sack yolk, this is normal. Let her eat it. It has nutritonal value for her.

Do not help the baby get out of the yolk sack let the mom and baby do it on their own.

Be careful trying to pick up a baby dog, mom might be defensive (normal)

If i were you,
id buy one of those plastic play pools for kids and create almost like a bed for her in it and have her sleep there until she gives birth. This gives room for all the babies to move around, and is easy to clean, rather than off the floor or a dog bed.

This is going to be a great experience for you and well worth it. You will know why when it happens. The babies are going to be so small and so cute and you will just fall in love with all of them..
It was a great experience for us, I will give you that. :D

How can I get my son to sleep without a bottle?

Q. My son will be 6 months old on the 3rd of August and we have so much trouble getting him to sleep without a bottle. The only ways he'll fall asleep is if he's in the car or eating or being rocked for at least 20 minutes and no distractions. We've started him on baby foods and we think this will become a problem when we start working him off of the bottle. He's getting 2 teeth as well, and I don't want him to have dental problems. Any ideas on helping him get to sleep?

A. Have you tried letting him cry it out? I know alot of moms have problems doing this but, trust me, its going to have to happen eventually, or your going to have a three year old you have to rock to sleep everynight. Im currently a nanny for a 7 month old baby boy, and at a little after 6 months we started to let him cry it out. It teaches them to soothe themselves so you dont have to spend half your night rocking and putting him down...rocking and putting him down, over and over which is what we had to do. He doesnt go to bed with a bottle but just cries himself to sleep. Sometimes it takes 5 seconds and hes out lol...other times it takes 30 minutes, but it wont kill him and it will really help you...If you dont want to constantly hear him cry, shut his room door, and yours, and just make sure the monitor is on, we have one with lights that go up to indicate how loud it is, so you dont have to listen to him cry which is the hardest for parents to do, but you can still tell without checking every 5 mins how hes doing..when I have him I dont just..put him down to go to sleep...of course wait until you can tell hes actually tired...and then...calm him down..no playing and getting hyper...but....sit on the poarch outside if its cool...just listen to the birds...that always calms ours down...you can rock him and walk around with him like you normally would...and when you can tell hes absolutely droopy eyes tired just lay him in his crib..turn on the mobile if he likes it..and quietly walk out and shut the door or keep it open just a bit...Alot of times they will cry...get quiet....then start crying even harder..and,,start a pattern, but this is a way of self soothing and eventually they will go to sleep..and they wont love you any less... I know to alot of people this sounds cruel but its really best for the both of you...independence for you and him!! Good luck!!
