See ma girlfriend is pregnant, and she has a uti. Is ok for her to take NITROFURANTOIN MONO/MAC 100mg Caps?

Answer
Macrobid (brand name of Nitrofurantoin) is what is known as a Category B drug during pregnancy, meaning that there is no suspected harm to the unborn baby. HOWEVER, there are risks taking it late in pregnancy (usually in the last 2 to 4 weeks). If the doctor knows her history, how far along she is, and is trying to treat an indicated infection, I would say she is probably okay. Just monitor the baby and report any abnormal symptoms ASAP. Generally, this medication is taken for a short enough period of time that it's not going to be too detrimental. Again, always better to be safe than sorry. She should be okay. Just monitor her health and the baby's as well while taking the entire course of medication. Congratulations to you and your girlfriend :)

Is an Apple Macintosh alot better than Windows?

Anonymous

I know this debate has gone for years but i am really tired of my windows xp computer! Freakin Data Execution Error won't go away and crap. Does Apple Machintosh have alot of errors like Windows>?

Answer
Been on a Mac since 1988. I (we) have 1/20th of the problems and 1/1000th of the viruses. Pop a CD/DVD in and it pops up on the screen. No C/://d/bk2C:// crap.

I have recommended Mac to the last 20 non-computer people that were looking for computers. Like suckers, they all bought el-cheapo's from chain stores with s/w they will never use. 85% said they should have listened.

If your going to use it seriously, invest the $$ into a good computer w/o the scanner, printer, baby monitor, camera, microphone, alarm clock/microwave options and a ton of useless s/w. No to mention the rediculous s/w upgrades every week.

Once you go MAC, you never go back :)

How much does it cost the first year to raise a baby and other questions.?

Katie-Lynn

I am not pregnant. This is a protect for school.

What is the annual cost the first year to raise a baby?

Second question. Im going to give you a list of newborn items. Tell me which items are TRULY NECESSARY.

Crib
diaper changing table
rocking chair
baby monitor
baby bathtub
bottles
bottle brush
bottle drying rack
baby swing
pacifiers
infant bouncer
swaddling blanket
play mat
play pen
carseat

Answer
Crib
Carseat
Bottles
Swaddling blanket
Play mat (can be used on floor as changing mat too)
These are the basic basic needs for me. You can get by without the others but not these.

The annual costs for a baby each year is different for every person. Some woman breast feed which is cheaper than formula. Others use cloth diapers which are cheaper than disposable etc.
I bought a pack of 15 reusable pea pod diapers for $70. These can be used from newborn right up to 3 years, so I only bought 1 pack of disposable diapers during the first year, to see what was better. Diapers are about $10 (new Zealand dollars) a pack. Babies go through about 5-10 nappies each day in the first few weeks, and then about 3-5 a day from around 4 months to a year. So do the math and it'll give you an approximate answer (get the price of diapers from your local supermarket).
If breast fed, it cost nothing. I breast fed, but I also bought a breast pump and baby bottles for $150 in case baby needed to be left with another person etc. if formula feeding, do some research online on the average formula used a month, and then times that by 12 (12 months in a year) get a price from your local supermarket.
Clothes- this depends on where you buy from etc, but I spent about $800 on all clothes up to 12 months. (including shoes, socks, togs, pyjamas etc)
I spent about $20 or so on baby shampoo, soap and powder every 6 or so weeks, so that's about $180 a year.
I bought baby towels and facecloths before my baby was born and they lasted right up until she was four. I spent $30 on 5 towels and a couple packs of facecloths.
Bibs- got given some at baby shower, but bought a few packs for $20 around about, these lasted the whole time needed.
Bassinet/Moses basket - needed for first 8 weeks, cost me $80
Crib- needed up until about 2- cost me $250
Stroller- needed up until about 3- cost me $150
Car seat- Bought a seat that was used from birth til 4 years. Cost $150
Blankets, sheets, duvets for crib- got given some at baby shower but probably costs about $100 for a couple pairs of sheets, blankets etc
Swaddling blankets- needed for first few weeks (I used them but not necessary) depending on brand etc but I got a few muslin wraps for $30.
Baby bath- optional, but I used one. $30
Medication such as baby Tylenol, gripe water, teething gel, teething powder etc about $50 all up the first year (depends)
Baby food- baby cereals, rusks, custards and other tinned foods probably about $90 a month (depends how much food baby eats. This price is based on my baby who at 7 months ate 2 tins a day, at $1.50 each) I also bought veggies and meat, and puréed these myself for baby. (this price will depend, as some babies don't start real food until a year old) my girl at 10-12 months was eating the same foods as I was.
Some people will put their children into childcare, this is another cost.
Where I live, medical attention for under 5's is free, but many people will have to pay for this as well.
Hope I haven't forgotten anything :)
Hope I helped!

What are you're opinions on the color video baby monitors?

128333

My aunt asked for a new baby minitor in her baby gift registry and I was thinking of getting her the Handheld Color Video Monitor from Target. Its $199.00 and I want it to be worth the money. Is it worth it? Anyone like it/dislike it? Please give me your opinions. I think it is really neat that you can see the baby and everything, but is it too good to be true?

Answer
I disagree with the above answer. We actually have a video monitor for our 6 month old son, and it's great! With regualr monitors, all you hear is the sound. You cant always tel whats going on just by the sound you hear. With the video monitor, you can hear the sound, and see what is going on as well. Sometimes, with just a regualr monitor, you will hear somthing strange, and run in to check it out, and it really be nothing. We had many false alarms becasue sound alone doesnt answer concerns.

The video on the monitor is actually pretty clear. On some, you can actually record on it too, incase you want to use it as a security camera!

is there a way to make cordless phones work better with less static or longer range?
i have a 5.8 phone, but i need it to work better im not gonan get a new one

Answer
replace your phones with DECT phones...
only buy pansaonic..

stay away from uniden and vtech...

check your line with a corded phone to ensure that the static is not on the line or jack... and if there is static at the jack, check the NID with the corded phone to determine if the static is inside or outside of your home... if outside call your local telephone provider to make the repairs... if inside and you have wire maintenance then the phone company can come and make the repairs free, otherwise they will charge you - or you can do it yourself, or have someone else do it...

DECT phones operate on 1.9Ghz which is an unlicenced radio spectrum set aside by the FCC for cordless telephone devices only... so other devices should not interfere... also with RF the lower the frequency the further the range, so they will provide better range than 2.4 and 5.8Ghz phones...

2.4Ghz phones operate within the same frequencies as many consumer electronic devices - wifi, cordless intercoms, cordless baby monitors, cordless video security cameras, microwave ovens..... etc..

placement of the main base - that connects to the dial tone, is also important.. you want to locate the main base in a location centered on the area you are attempting to cover with the cordless phone... keep in mind that physical obstructions (doors, floors, etc) can block or reduce the signal level and range of the phones.....

What are some inexpensive things i can do to make the environment better to live in? Plz answer?

Fact is all of us are going to have a pathetic world to live in if we don't start making changes to our daily lives.

Answer
There are a gazillion things to do.

I've really been trying to cut electrical use over the last year. We've replaced every bulb in our house with Compact Fluorescent or regular fluorescent bulbs. We've planted trees near windows, installed room darkening shades, weatherstripping, and window tint to keep rooms from heating up so the AC doesn't run as often. We bought a 7 day programmable thermostat so we can have the AC adjust throughout the day automatically so we're not needlessly cooling when no one is home. We're diligent about turning off the computer every night, turning off lights, keeping doors and windows open during nice weather, and turning off fans when no one is in the room (fans don't make the room cooler, they just make it feel cooler - a sort of wind chill factor).

We bought a remote control power controller called Bye-Bye Standby from Amazon. With a click of the remote you can kill the phantom power used by your electronics. I can turn off all my electronics and then kill the power with this thing and hear the electronics really turn off. Of course this uses batteries, but our outlets are not reachable behind our freecycled entertainment center, but I guess you can't win 'em all.

Prior to doing all these things, our previous low on our electric bill was right about $100. We've since had electric bills in $60-$70 range, and once even hit $50 right on the head. So, obviously we're using less electricity. Most all these changes don't cost a whole lot and actually pay for themselves in the long run.

I mentioned Freecycle before. Search for a Freecycle group in your area. This is a recycle program in which people give away stuff to each other for free, no strings attached. Our local Freecycle is actually run through a Yahoo group. We've given away old pots/pans, clothes, baby stuff, a computer monitor, etc. and have gotten stuff like a lamp and a basketball hoop. So, instead of this stuff ending up in the landfill, it's still being used and it was all free.

Also, go to the library to get videos and books, rather than buying them or renting them online. Because you are borrowing from the local library fewer of the videos and books need to be produced so less paper or less plastic is used and it saves on transportation costs. Our library is about 2 miles away. Netflix, Amazon, etc. are several states away so to get something from them requires a lot more fuel to get the same thing to me. Best of all, the library is free.

Shop at a local fruit and vegetable stand if possible. We go to one that is about 6 miles round-trip out of my way. However, the prices are cheaper than the local grocery store and most of the produce is local, unlike the grocery store which is more international. So I'm saving money and it's better for the environment because the products don't have to be shipped as far prior to consumption.

Get out and enjoy the environment. Go camping! Visit state and national parks, national forests, wildlife refuges, etc - most are free to visit and cheap to camp in. The park services can't keep these places clean on their own because they are absolutely huge and understaffed. While there pick up a few pieces of trash and put it where it belongs. Also, getting into the wild has given me personally a greater desire to do something because I better appreciate nature. I hear nature more now. I hear the hawk in our neighborhood every morning as it screeches. I hear the blue jays, grackles and mockingbirds and I want to continue to hear them so I try to do more to make their environment a better place. Hearing the birds doesn't cost me a thing and it inspires me to do more and to be creative in doing it.

best baby monitor 1.0 image

Milla's Mo

I'm 26 wks pregnant and had hyperthyroid prior to getting pregnant. I've been on PTU from the beginning. Well, now my levels for the past month have been off. My Free T4 is 1.0 and my Free T3 is 267. My OB wants me at the high end of normal and well, I'm obviously not anymore.

Do you think this will have an effect on my unborn twin's brain development? It was at the high normal until I was 5 months pregnant.

Answer
Your free t4 is OK, but your free t3 is on the low side. Supplements like zinc, selenium, and lytrosine help with conversion of T4 into T3, though I have to wonder if you need supplemental T3. I'm hypothyroid, I only feel well if the free t3 is above 350. I think I'd call and talk to mt doctor immediately. It's vry important to have the levels just right when pregnant. I have a friend who miscarried her 2nd pregnancy because she wasn't having her thyroid levels checked every 3-4 weeks. With her 3rd pregnancy, she had levels monitored more often and had a healthy baby girl who is 5 months old now.

Call your doctor or see an endocrinologist who deals with pregnant women.

Is it safe for my newborn to sleep alone?

best baby monitor sids image

Lauren

My baby is 3 weeks old. My husband sleeps in our room, bc it is cooler there. I have been sleeping on the couch and the baby sleeps in the bassinet. I'm tired of not being able to sleep in a bed with my husband. When is it okay to use a baby monitor? Is our baby too young to leave alone?

Answer
The current medical recommendation is to have the baby sleep close to you (in the same room) for the 1st 6 months to reduce the risk of SIDS. Why can't you put the bassinet in your room? It is better for a baby to sleep cool anyway since sleeping too warm is also a SIDS risk. They make swaddlers & sleep sacks to make sure baby stays cozy & at that age I kept a hat on my babies anyway.

My baby is almost 7 months and tonight is the first night he'll be sleeping by himself in his crib. Of course?

angela

we have the baby monitors on. If he cries tonight should I go in and calm him or let him cry? The doctor says he needs to calm himself and doesn't need to be fed at night. Should I though? Doctors are all about the "cry it out method". I cried it out just putting him into bed and hearing his scared cry tonight even with the night light on. With the fear of sids on my mind I don't know if I'll be able to sleep.

Answer
I have four kids. My first two I let 'cry a few minutes' and ALWAYS ended up in their rooms multiple times a night. And it lasted until they were both around two. Babies aren't stupid. Sure they don't know when three or five minutes have passed, but they do know 'if I cry, mom comes'

Well my third child started on solids, same pedi tells me its time to get her sleeping all night, he said DO NOT GIVE IN! He said let her cry and I PROMISE after two nights... DONE. Well she cried a lot the first night, it was tough, very tough. The second night, she slept all night. I realize not all babies will adjust after just one night. I sure wished I had listened with my first two kids. I guarantee the chances of your baby sleeping thru the night are next to zero if you keep going in when they cry.

Also, I'm not sure I would even use a blanket if it were a good temp and baby has pajamas on. And nothing big enough or thick enough to restrict breathing. The whole sleeping thing is very controversial, and SOME say its more dangerous for baby to be in bed with parents. But I had mine in my bed sometimes. Baby #4 is in my bed now.

If you are doing this don't give in, you can sneak a peak at baby, check on baby while he/she is asleep. But don't give in! I am proof of what works and what doesn't. And even tho its heartbreaking listening to baby cry, I PROMISE you will be forgiven and greeted with a smile when you come in in the morning.

Good luck

Turtle Beach Tango Issue with bluetooth?

best baby monitor to buy 2013
on Baby Video Monitor Reviews - The Best Video Baby Monitors
best baby monitor to buy 2013 image

Q.

sooo, early this year i bought the Tangos because my old headset was destroyed by my own stupidity.... anyway, now whenever I try to talk in them it you can barely understand me because it comes out in a static sort of sound. The Tangos are new (as i bought them, so 3-5 months old), they've always have worked before today, I have tried "turning it on and off again", I looked at the TB website but their were no listings for this problem, the audio for games and such works fine, I can hear people, I tried to get dust out of the detachable mic part, I think somethings broken but I don't know what part specifically to replace. I figure/hope that the local community here that has a turtle beach or something knows. no other problems, just static when ever my bluetooth is on for it. NOTE: it might have something to due with internet connection as that seems to be going weird lately, due to too many devices on the internet at one time.

Answer
Same here; got tired of the blue masking tape holding my DPX-21's together. The EFT's are a major league upgrade and world of difference.

First, don't discount the obvious; make sure your Chat button settings are on Chat 1 or Chat Main (left earpiece). If that's good, then try flashing the firmware with the latest version (even if you're using the current one). If you've never updated, now's the time.

Make sure the cables on the transmitter are secured properly also.

The mikes on the EFT's are pretty hard to screw up, so I'd be looking at a firmware, software, or setting fix. If you haven't yet downloaded the firmware update, here's what you need to do:

1. Create a TB Community account:

http://www.turtlebeach.com/community/preset-community

2. Download and install the Tango Advanced Sound Editor and User Guide:

http://www.turtlebeach.com/assets/presets/tools/ASE_20130314.zip

http://www.turtlebeach.com/assets/presets/tools/ASE_UserGuide_2013_FINAL.pdf

3. Once installed, connect your EFT headset using the USB data cable (NOT the long power cable; they're marked), then start up the ASE program.

4. Click the âCheck for Firmware Updatesâ button and let it do its thing. The procedure is on page 6 of the ASE user guide.

Lastly, you can't rule out RF interference either. Make sure you haven't added any new electronics near the transmitter unit that can cause RFI; new cordless phone base, microwave (if you're a hardcore gamer), baby monitor, etc. Even a new Router; if you've installed a new Router or bridge, you may need to adjust the Channel frequency band to a higher offset frequency above 2.4ghz, which is what the BT frequency is. Remember, anything that can generate RFI will interfere with a BT transmission.

Worst case, call TB support - they're pretty good about taking care of customers who buy their high-end units. Did you get the freebie TB earbuds a couple of months ago as a bonus?

Where to buy at home Fertility Monitoring Sticks in stores? Do ovulation sticks do the same thing?

on Best Baby Shower Ideas-Incorporate These Awesome Tips For A Fun Baby ...
best baby monitor amazon image

Naptown Mo

Does anyone know which stores sell the Fertility Monitors? I have already been to Walmart and Kmart and neither had them, only ovulation monitoring kits. If I can't find the fertility sticks, should I just purchase the ovulation monitors? Has anyone used these? I am just curious to see when the best time to try to get pregnant will be because it has been not easyTTC!

Answer
I have been using the clear blue fertility monitor for over a year and I swear by it, and highly recommend it to everyone ttc. It takes all the guess work out of this ttc business, and it helped me to learn everything I needed to know about my cycle. We got our monitor at Walgreen's, it was the only place that sold it, and it is also the only store that sells the tests strips for it in my area. You can also check ebay or amazon, they can sometimes be found on there cheaper, as well as the test strips. You need to purchase the strips in order to use the monitor.

It really is worth it, especially if your ovulation pattern is unpredictable. It will tell you when you are fertile prior to ovulation, as well as when you ovulate, so there is no reading test strip lines, and no guessing at all. It gives you a heads up on when to try, basically. It pretty much puts your mind at ease, as there is no guessing, and you will know you've tried on the right days. They are a bit pricey, so I would recommend looking on ebay or amazon first for a brand new one. You can buy them used, but I have no experience with that, I just hear it is not recommended. Beware the 1st month you use it, you may or may not get a peak reading, as it can take a cycle to become familiar with your hormone levels and cycle. This is very common, but rest assured that many, many women are able to get a peak reading and detect ovulation in the 1st month of use. Out of all the women I know that use it, I was the only one that was not able to get a peak reading my 1st month. So check Walgreen's, or online. I promise you will be very happy with it:)

Good luck to you and lots of baby dust coming your way!!!

How do you use Clearblue Fertility Monitor? Is it worth it?

lucy lu an

So I've been researching Clearblue Fertility Monitor, and am considering buying it. Has anyone had success with it? How exactly do you use it? Do you have to pee on a stick every day, or only certain days? Was anyone able to conceive with the help of it? I have heard OPK tests can sometimes be unreliable, or difficult to determine if they're positive or not. I have heard that the monitor gives a clear answer to when your fertile days are.
Thanks, and good luck to all TTC!

Answer
Hi! I have used Clear Blue Fertility Monitor and had success within the second month. I actually got my BFP two days ago at 8dpo!! The monitor is very picky and you must follow all the instructions carefully, but it is well worth the money!! I still can't believe I got pregnant using it! I told myself that if I got pregnant, I would answer some yahoo questions about the monitor to help others see the value and give them hope.

Sorry this is long:) but here's how it works:

You must buy a pack of ClearBlue easy Fertility sticks made for the monitor. No other sticks works with the monitor, and unless you buy a package that includes the sticks and the monitor (amazon sells them together) you must buy the sticks separately. They usually come in a three month supply assuming that each month the monitor only asks your for 10 sticks. However, if your cycle is long and you don't ovulate until later, the monitor will ask you for 20 sticks a cycle. When you buy the monitor you will set a little "m" button on the side, which means menses. You must start it within cycle day 5 of your cycle. Meaning if you buy the monitor and you are on cycle day three, you can still set the monitor, but you will have to wait for the next cycle if you are past cycle day 5.

Also, you must set it within a time frame that is reasonable for you to take pee samples everyday. When you set your monitor using the "m" button, you only have a three hour window each way to dip your stick in pee and let your monitor interpret the stick when it starts asking you for samples (usually on cycle day 6). For example, if you set the m button at 6 am in the morning on cycle day 4, cycle day 6 the monitor will flash the stick sign when you turn it on from 3am until 9am. This is the only time the monitor can read the sticks.

You can either pee in a cup or dip the stick a urine stream. I find that dipping it in a cup is much much more accurate, because again, the monitor is very sensitive about how long the stick is dipped in the pee. If you use a cup, you can only dip the test stick in it for 15 seconds.

When you are done dipping the stick, you turn the monitor on and it will flash a pee stick symbol to you. You will then put the stick in the monitor and it will flash for 5 minutes. When you take it out, it will give you a reading via bars on the screen. You will be either low fertility (one bar), high fertility (two bars), or peak fertility (three bars with an egg symbol). The days of high fertility vary between cycles and people.
The monitor does get to know your body for the first three months, so give it time, and don't get discouraged. Not everyone gets pregnant right away with the monitor because ttc is very sensitive even with perfect timing.

The first cycle I used it, I got high fertility from days 15-18. I peaked on day 19 and 20 and it followed with another high day. I did not get pregnant that cycle.

The next month I used the monitor, it showed only ONE day of high fertility and I peaked on day 17 and 18. I did get pregnant that cycle.

Each cycle, my monitor asked for 20 sticks because I have very long cycles. The hardest part some people say is remembering to put the test stick within the time window. For me, it was A LOT of fun. I would wake up every day and remember because I wanted to know what my "fertility status" was.

Most of all, it gives you peace of mind. I must say, I was disappointed I did not get pregnant in the first month, but knew that without the monitor it would have taken much longer. We tried for 5 months prior to using the monitor and I already have a baby so was disappointed when it didn't happen quickly.

The only thing that I can say is not to get your hopes up, and give the monitor a shot. There are hundreds of reviews on amazon and other websites and I would frequently read them to get hope and encouragement.

I hope this helps and I hope you get your baby:)

Oh, I also used preseed which I think was very helpful in me getting pregnant. Its a sperm friendly lubricant! If you try the monitor for 3 months and no luck, try using preseed, it helps with your cervical mucous needed to have a baby.

I dont want it to be more than around £100. Sorry im from UK btw so it needs to be available to buy here x
are the video ones worth the money or do you think the sounds ones will suffice?

Answer
We have the Angelcare Movement Monitor. It detects the heart rate and will set off the alarm if the baby stops breathing for more then 20 seconds. It also has a regular sound monitor in it. It is well worth it. I have yet to have a false alarm and gives me such peace of mind at night.

We have the older version of it. This is the newer one.

ETA: I bought mine of Ebay for half the price and works just was well as if you were to buy it in the store.

How does going through pregnancy and giving birth work?

Miss M

I know you have to go to an OBGYN and have monthly check ups, but what are those for? Does someone else deliver your baby? How do you know where to go in the hospital? How does your doctor get there? Can someone give me a full run down on this from pregnancy to birth, I'm just really interested in how these things work.
Anyone have more details?

Answer
In the uk when you find out your preg you would make an appointment to see your doc, who refers you to a local midwife (in the us your obgyn)
Then you have regular appointments where the midwife takes all your details, gives advice on symptoms and the changes that happen to the woman's body. Plus tells you what you can expect ahead of you! They monitor the baby heartbeat and check that it is developing ok and keep an eye on the mothers health too.
In the uk you have 2 ultrasounds at 12 then 20 weeks (assuming your pregnancy is straightforward) at these scans they take measurements of the baby and check for any signs of congenital conditions or abnormalities. At the 20 week scan they can usually check whether its a boy or girl
A pregnancy usually lasts 38 weeks ( or 40 weeks if you count from your last period) and your midwife will notify your local hospital of your pregnancy. Then you can choose whether to plan a homebirth or hospital. Sometimes if there are complications you will be booked for a c-section on a particular day.
When you start having contractions - and believe me you'll know! - you call the hospital !! Then they will tell you when the time is right to go in. You will go to the labour ward and a team of midwives will help you deliver your baby! If you're having a home birth, they send out a midwife to your address.
Over here you cannot choose who delivers your baby unless you're paying for someone.

Should I upgrade my computer or can you give me tips?

I've been having issues with my computer for awhile as far as gaming goes. I bought my computer strictly for gaming purposes, but I'm having issues with all of my games. V-sync is my main issue, because with it off the screen tears terribly and with it on there is very slow mouse lag. I want to call the guy who made my computer and ask him, but doesn't know much about gaming. What I need to know is if something in my computer may need an upgrade because it might be conflicting with the graphics card. Anyway I'd really like if you could answer this with detail, because I've already asked this many times and most of the answers are very unhelpful and conflicting. Computer Specs below.
Graphics: ASUS Nvdia Geforce GTX 660
Ram: 8gb DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-12800, DDR3 PC3-14900, DDR3 (non-ECC)
Processor: AMD A8-3870 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 2.99GHz
Motherboard: msi A7MA-G55
Monitor: 1600 x 900 60hz
Power Supply: 550W
Hard Drive: 1T
Internet Speed: 8063 Kbps / 1147 Kbps
IOS: Windows 7 Ultimate

Answer
There are several issues w/ v-sync. First off is that the higher the frame rate the better the mouse response even if that frame rate is higher than the monitors refresh rate. Once you enable v-sync the computer keep the frame rate at speeds that can be multiplied into 60 using whole numbers. That means 15, 20, 30, or 60FPS(40 might be possible to but I dont remember.. If you keep dipping below 60 you will hit the 30cap or 40 if it exists.

What you should try right away is turning off v-sync then go into the nvidia control panel and force adaptive v-sync. It will enable v-sync at 60fps but disable it when under 60fps. This will keep you from getting screwed into a 30fps speed.

There may be some tearing at low frame rates but should be minimal.

All those v-sync modes work by dropping frames so your card is doing the work of a higher frame rate but then having frames discarded to ensure it can easily be synced with the 60Hz refresh rate of your monitor.

If you are going to upgarde anything it needs to be your video card. The 660 is not an enthusiast card. Get a amd 7950 at the least or a 7970 or gtx670 or gtx680.

You can sell your current card to recoup some cash. I am a nvidia fan and at the time I bought my gtx670 it was a better performer per dollar than what AMD offered but now the tables are turned. AMD offers the best bang for the buck by far. A 7950 will eat yout card for a late night snack.

The rest of the system is great. If you have not overclocked your processor than do so now. A 20% boost should be as easy as stealing candy from a baby cat that doesn't like candy. You can certainly get more than that but surely 20% is stupid easy.

Hope this helps

------
Also in response to the Intel recommendation and hd recommendation those guys don't need to be spending anymore time in the computer section answering questions.

you already stated the issue v-sync or tearing so checking your HD is just silly. As for the Intel bit the 3rd gen i7 is the last 1155 chip so any i5 chip and board you buy now will not be able to be upgraded at all n the future.

I have a i5 3570k at 4.5GHz and a GTX670 that is overclocked to get about 20% more performance and even that struggles at 2560x1440p resolutions. At 1600x900 there would be no problems.

Also a few other things DO NOT use anti aliasing except for fxaa and txaa. MSAA is to demanding for that video card and will severally reduce frames rates. Disable motion blur as it reduces frame rates and the quality of the scene. In nvidia control panel turn on anisotropic sample optimization, set texture filtering quality to high performance, enable trilinear optimization, turn on triple buffering and set vertical sync to adaptive.

Try the game with the trilinear optimization on and off and see if you notice a difference. Also find out if your monitor can be overclocked and if so by how much. If you can get your monitor to run at 75hz that will increase your mouse performance quite a bit with vsync on. If you can hit 90 even better.

Good luck and sorry about all the idiots. You wont get a better answer than this one on this site.

How to make old iphone 3g as Home Spy Camera?

Trueme

I have two iPhones, the old iPhone 3g and the new iPhone 4s. now i wanted to use my old iphone 3g (iOs version updated) as a Home Spy Camera and wanted to watch my kids at home live stream to my new iPhone 4s while im at work. i also got my Home Wifi network. is there any best iphone application out there for this matter? or is it possible to use my Home IP address to use and access it for this concept?

Answer
There are many training videos telling us how to make iphone as home spy camera on line.
Um...I've found two:
1. http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-use-iphone-as-spy-camera-423938/
2. http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-make-iphone-secret-spy-camera-423940/
The second video looks like very easy to access, but I don't know if it is useful for you.

If these two ways are not fit, I suggest you to buy a Baby Monitor or Home Spy Camera. You can visit this online store:
http://www.accessbuy.com/wholesale-Baby-Monitor_120.html
http://www.accessbuy.com/wholesale-IP-Camera_113.html
It's a wholesaler, so its price is very low.

I want to use my cell phone with my laptop as a baby monitor for my newborn so that I can set the laptop up with the webcam on the baby & then I can watch it on my cell phone. Something similar to Skype but not Skype because it won't work with my phone. At least I can't figure out how to. Thanks!

Answer
gmail has video chat similar to skype. but then like skype, you'd still have to teach your baby to hit the "accept call" button when you call into your laptop.

Why does WIFI lose quality and speed the longer you stay on?

secret_asi

Seriously, I'm computer retarded and just wondering why it does that. It goes from 54mb/sec to 10 or less sometimes.

Answer
If you speed is dropping then it is nothing to do with how long you have been connected it must be down to another problem.

Generic advice for improving wif reception [you give no info on the router or what device you are connecting with]

To start with the basic rule is to position the wifi router as high and as centrally as possible in your house.

1] Try changing the broadcast channel from the wireless setup interface for your router/modem.You can normally access this by typing "http://192.168.0.1/" into your browsers search bar and then look for the wireless settings menu.
You don't say if your router can use the 5GHz frequency or just the 2.4GHz. The best channels in the 2.5GHz spectrum are 1,6, 11, or 13 as they have less overlap with the other channels.

There is a useful article here about how to get the best performance by selecting the best channel.: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/21132/chaâ¦

If you have an android smarthphone, or a friend does, then install the Wifi Analyzer app free from android market and use it to scan for the best channel and change your routers broadcast channel accordingly. This app will aslo show you all the wifi signals in range that your neighbours are using, so you can select a different channel to them, making a stronger signal for you. https://market.android.com/details?id=coâ¦

2] You can use a tool like Nirsofts totally free WirelessNet View to look at all the local wireless signals that are within range and may be competing with your own router and interfering with reception. from here: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wireless_neâ¦

3] You can buy a Wi-Fi booster like D-Link 645 Smartbeam, here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/D-Link-DIR-645-Wâ¦
Devices such as these can actually boost the wifi signal by using multiple beams that bounce of the walls and are intelligently directed toward whatever device [smarhphone, laptop, tablet] you are using on wifi.

4] If your using the 2.4GHz frequency and not the 5GHz then other devices that use this frequency band can alsso interfere with your reception [eg baby monitors and microwave ovens use 2.4GHz]. Try and make sure that none of these devices are situated between your router and your wifi receiver eg laptop, tablet, smarthphone etc

Which baby monitor should I buy?

Martha

Hello!
My daughter is 4 months old and realized we've not got a baby monitor! I donât want to be spending too much but after some research I see there is a huge difference in prices from about $30 - $200s.
So what would you recommend, I want a video monitor which doesn't need to have lots of fancy features, only a reliable one.

Thanks!

Answer
I really searched about baby monitors before we bought ours. So here are my tips:

Before buying one,
Think what you need:
Do you want a video or sound only monitor? Do you want motion sensor feature etc.

Know your house and neighborhood, and other wireless devices:
Are walls thick, and do you live in a place with lots of parents. If so select a long range one with multichannel option. If not you will always experience interference problems. Chose a digital baby monitor!

I've been using a video one called Motorola MBP36 - its really good actually and has night vision which is a definite plus, it looks a bit like a really big ipod, which is kind of cool. I live in a house with thick walls and use it with no problem and even in long range the sound and video is very clear. It has many other features too like night vision and temperature alarm.

So I really recommend you to buy a motorola mbp36 baby monitor as Iâm very happy with it.

This Of Items Needed For A Newborn?

Angelica

I Need A List Of The Items Needed For A Newborn & Their Price If You Can. Thanks!

Answer
For a breast fed baby:
Clothes, car seat/stroller/travel system, burp clothes, lots of blankets, gripe water, diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream, infant bath tub with sling, baby soap, washcloths, towels, diaper bag, rubbing alcohol and q-tips for cord, thermometer (I have an Exergen forehead thermometer), nose aspirator (I use the one the hospital gave us)

Things that aren't necessary but are helpful:
My 2-month old sleeps in her Fisher Price Sleep Rocker during the day and was in her reclined swing for the first month and a half but is now in her crib at night. I also have a sheet saver on her crib in case she has a spit up so I won't have to change her sheets.
We used pre-made swaddlers when it she kept waking herself up with her arms/startle reflex. I have since switched to sleep sacks without sleeves because she can't have a blanket and kicks them off all the time anyway.
I use my video monitor whenever she's in her room and love love love it. It's a Motorola MBP36.
Contoured changing pad/cover. I also put waterproof pads over her cover because of accidents during diaper changes and extra poopy diapers.
I have a Medela Swing single electric pump, bottles and nipples for whenever I am too full or need to feed her while we are out. I expressed for 2 days when she was less than a week old because I couldn't wake her to feed her easily and wanted to monitor how much she was eating.
My baby doesn't take pacis, the cat just eats them.
Newborns don't need toys. My 2 month old still can't hold a rattle but I shake it for her and she seems to calm down some.
I use a travel wipe warmer when we are at home. She doesn't like cold wipes.
I use my diaper genie all the time.
Baby lotion
I also have a mobile on her crib but haven't turned it on since she still doesn't really focus on things.

Is it advisable to have a residential house near a landfill?

best baby monitor for large house image

Leda Fox

we intend to procure a house which is located 1 mile from a landfill in Merano, Rancho Valencia, Tucson, Arizona. Are there disadvantages in living near a landfill? Particularly to health concerns?

Answer
The U.S. population produced more than 236 million tons of garbage in 2003 (about 4.5 pounds of waste per person per day, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)). All of this waste gets put into landfills, which are decreasing in numbers (from 8,000 in 1988 to 1,767 in 2002) but gaining in size.

Landfills produce leachate, a toxic liquid squeezed out of the garbage that contains a slew of chemicals.

Today's landfills are significantly bigger than they were just two decades ago, and increasing numbers are reaching full capacity. When a landfill is full, it gets capped and usually planted with grass, the end result looking like a large, grassy hill, with small chimneys to releases gasses. A closed landfill does not look particularly threatening, but evidence is pouring in that there's more going on than meets the eye.

How Landfills Work

Trash is compacted into tight blocks called cells before being deposited in the landfill. It's then covered with multiple layers, including a thick covering of soil, at the end of each day. Once the landfill reaches capacity, it's covered with a plastic material, then soil and grass.

"Most U.S. landfills are called dry tombs," says Steve Wall of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). "Ideally, landfills are carefully engineered and monitored systems that keep household garbage dry so they don't contaminate surrounding water or air."

Safeguards are in place to keep toxins in the landfill, and out of surrounding communities, however, "people are concerned because trash inside lasts for generations," Wall says.

Landfills Leak Toxins

Landfills produce significant amounts of methane gas, along with leachate, a toxic liquid that comes out of all that compressed trash. Leachate is full of organic and inorganic pollutants, including toluene, phenols, benzene, ammonia, dioxins, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), chlorinated pesticides, heavy metals and endocrine-disrupting chemicals.

Landfills often have pipes designed to route and collect leachate to keep it from contaminating ground water (which can become your tap water). However, even the best collection systems and landfill liners inevitably deteriorate and leak, according to the EPA:

"No liner ... can keep all liquids out of the ground for all time. Eventually liners will either degrade, tear, or crack and will allow liquids to migrate out of the unit. Some have argued that liners are devices that provide a perpetual seal against any migration from a waste management unit. EPA has concluded that the more reasonable assumption, based on what is known about the pressures placed on liners over time, is that any liner will begin to leak eventually."

If and when a landfill does leak, toxins are allowed to escape directly into the environment, where they can contaminate air, water and soil.

Health Risks Linked to Landfills

If you have a choice, it's probably best to locate your home at least two miles from a landfill.

Studies have shown possible increased risks of certain types of cancer, including bladder, brain and leukemia, among people who live near landfills.

Further, a study by researchers at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine also found that babies born to mothers who live near landfills have a greater risk of birth defects.

"There was a significantly overall increased risk of neural-tube defects, malformations of the cardiac septa (hole-in-the-heart), and malformations of the great arteries and veins in residents near the landfill sites in our study," the researchers said.

And, a recent study found that living near a landfill could expose residents to chemicals that can reduce immune system function and lead to an increased risk of infections.

As opposed to children living in clean areas, the study found that "children living near to waste sites, whether landfills or contaminated bodies of water, are hospitalized more frequently with acute respiratory infections, said Dr. David O. Carpenter, director of the Institute for Health and the Environment, at the State University of New York at Albany. Children living near waste sites also had increased rates of hospitalization for asthma.

Carpenter said the extent to which toxic landfill contaminants suppress the immune system has been "underestimated."

"While our specific study focused on air transport of the contaminants, they are also in our food," Carpenter said, "and the effect of exposure should not be different whether it is via food or air. So we really need to get these chemicals out of our environment to the greatest degree possible."

Ideally, we would all live in pristine environments, free from pollution of all kinds. Realistically, it may be worthwhile to avoid living near landfills, if you have a choice. If you don't, try to stay more than two miles away, as the health effects, at least in the birth defects study, lessened beyond this point.

I already have a boa constrictor and i want a burmese python?

Lol D

I got my boa constrictor on april 19th for my birthday And now i want a burmese python. I want a normal phase male when should I get him? i just had my boa for 4 weeks or so and im 14 years old.Should i get one or not? I also own a leopard gecko, baby savannah monitor and a red eared slider.

Answer
Burmese pythons are very large snakes, and they get quite long as well. These snakes can get over 15 feet long, especially the females. These snakes seem small as babies, but in the next year or two you will have a very long snake. These snakes are not light weight when they become adults, and they will need a large enclosure. This also means large food.

I do not think a Burmese python is a snake for you. I think you should think about the care for your boa now and think of buying a Burmese python later. Burmese pythons are not cheap either, since they will become very large. They have high cage requirements, and you will need a huge enclosure to house this snake it. This is more of a snake for an expert. Here are some beginner, intermediate, and expert snakes:

Beginner:
-Corn snakes
-Milk snakes
-King snakes
-Garter snakes
-Rat snakes
-Ball pythons
-Spotted pythons
-Children's pythons
-Sand boas
-Rosy boas

Intermediate:
-Dumeril's boa
-Blood python
-Jungle carpet pythons
-Womas
-Red tail boas
-Black headed pythons

Expert:
-Reticulated pythons
-Burmese pythons

Ive been reading alot of different things about humidity levels, and my sav is pretty skinny and not eating so much (could be because i got him 2 weeks ago), his temps during the day are 100-110 at the basking spot, about 90 in the general area and 80-85 at the cool side, but now im not sure if my humidity is correct

Answer
Humidity should be around 35% - but your monitor needs water deep enough to submerge in.

i have a baby ornate nile monitor he dosent bite when i grave him but he dose try to run away from my hands .once he figures our that he cannot escape my hands he calms down

but ones i put him on the floor he try to run

oh yea also when i put my hand in the tank he freeks out and runs to his hide spot

so dose this sound like a tame nile monitor if not why?

are their any tips for taming them?

Answer
As I and several others have told you repeatedly - there is no such thing as a tame Nile Monitor.

You're trying to make him tame by putting him through something that is obvious uncomfortable and stressful for him - this is going to lead to a large, aggressive lizard that absolutely HATES everything about you.

You need to stop trying to make him tame and settle for how he is, compared to others he is pretty good but that will change quickly if you persist.

A human-Nile Monitor relationship is one where the human feeds, cleans up after, and gives up an entire room to house the lizard, who in return at best tolerates the human and (usually) does not attack them.

Your persistence in trying to 'tame' this lizard, and your continued ignoring of our answers tell me you are not nearly responsible or mature enough to handle a lizard of this magnitude. I think you should try and find a new home for this little one before it gets any larger and sends you to the hospital.

What to do during a dog's seizure and what is the cost of medication?

Mo Money

My 3 year old lab had two seizures in March of this year (really weak, not diagnosed). Yesterday my wife and I noticed he was having one. I rubbed him down and talked to him during the seizure until it went away (3-5 minutes). What else can I do? I know I have to take him to the vet and most likely get him medicated. How much money are we looking at?

Answer
my dog had seizures and all i could do for her is sit and pat her and let her know i was there.

Its very sad to watch it happen to them

I the end the seizures did kill her

I just found this info if its any good

During the Seizure:

- Some dogs are light or sound sensitive during seizure episodes. Try dimming the lights and keeping phones at a distance from the dog.

- Keep old towels or baby diapers handy to catch urine if your dog urinates during seizures.

- Some human epileptics say they have an easier time if the seizure is allowed to run its course. Calling the dog's name to bring them out of the seizure may not be the best thing for your dog. Try it each way and see which is more comfortable for your particular dog's seizure.

- A fan blowing on the dog, or rubbing the feet and belly with cool water may help cool the dog down. Of course, in any case should the dog seem to be overheating due to repeated seizures or not coming out of a seizure -IMMEDIATELY bring the dog to/or contact a vet since overheating can be very dangerous.

- Many dogs are confused and even blind right after a seizure. Keep the dog in a safe area where they cannot fall down stairs or hurt themselves.

- Keep a careful journal of the seizures. As soon as possible write down the exact time the dog started to seizure and the time the seizure ended. A stop watch or watch with a second hand can be helpful. After the seizure is over and you have time - write down all circumstances surrounding the seizure, such as unusual food eaten, activities that happened during the previous day, medications or vaccinations recently given. A detailed journal can be helpful when bringing your dog to a new vet or neurologist.

- Be prepared to transport a dog that cannot stand up and walk, or is even in the middle of a seizure. Hard plastic children's sleds can be used to carry or drag the dog to the car. A heavy blanket folded can also act as a stretcher. If you are alone with a very heavy/large seizing dog, call the vets office for instructions. Depending on where you live you may want to try calling the police for help in getting the dog into the car if no one else is available.

Safety:

- Seizure proofing your home is important since most of us cannot be there to watch our dogs at all times. Seizures may occur when the dog is home alone. Many people crate their dogs while they are not there. An airline type crate (Vari-Kennel or Furrari) minimizes the chances of the feet getting caught up in the wires.

- While crating, or even when leaving the dog home alone, make sure the dog is not wearing a collar (especially with tags) that could get caught while the dog is thrashing. Choking can result.

- Some people make a special room for the epileptic dog, clearing out any objects/furniture that may injure the dog during a seizure. Crating or making a 'doggy room' may be the best idea should you have a 'catapulting dog', that is one that throws itself across the room during seizures.

- Never leave an epileptic dog alone near any water deep enough to drown in. If you need to, investigate getting a doggy lifevest for your dog.

- If you are concerned about your dog seizing while swimming, doggie life vests are available.

- Protection or separation may need to be considered in multiple dog households. A seizing dog can trigger the 'pack' instinct in which an injured animal on the ground is attacked. Monitor your dogs until you know their reactions to the seizing dog.

- Baby gates can be invaluable to block off stairways or confine the dog to a certain room.

- Be careful of leaving windows open should you have a dog that spends time near one. Screen windows can easily fall out of the framing as well as your dog.

- Prop a large piece of styrofoam insulation against a sliding glass door if you are afraid of your dog hitting against it.

- Buy a new or used baby alert monitor to 'hear' your dog if he sleeps in a different part of the home. Just put the receiver part in your bedroom -this may help you sleep better if you are constantly trying to 'listen' to hear if the dog is all right.

- If you really want to know what happens when you are not home, buy a voice activated tape recorder. It only records when significantly loud noise is heard. This will not only let you know if your dog has seized, but if he has been barking all day. Some also videotape their dog during the time they are gone. They then fast forward thru the tape to see if anything unusual has happened during the day.

- Keep phone numbers to your vet and all emergency vet hospitals near all phones. 2:00 a.m. in the morning is not he time to decide if your dog is in status and then figure out what to do. Drive by the emergency vet so you know exactly where it is. When traveling, get emergency numbers in advance or immediately find the hospital nearest you when you arrive. Keep the number handy at all times.

- An ID tag on a lost epileptic dog is very important. It's scary enough to think of a lost dog, but a lost dog without medications is even worse. Medical alert tags are available at most pharmacies, pet supply catalogs or from your vet. It can even be engraved and worn with your dog's regular tags.

How to interfere with a baby monitor?

SavannaJo

Sounds cruel, I know, but it's not what you think. See, my grandmother is really fucking nosey and has a baby monitor hidden somewhere in our living room so that she can listen to the family talk while she is "sleeping". Personally, I can't stand it when people can't keep their nose out of my business and would like to put an end to this. Is there anything I can do or maybe something I could buy to block the signal? Help, please?

Answer
If it's a baby monitor, it can't be that small. Do a thorough search and find it. Then open it up, pry several components off the board and put it back. Or if you know where she keeps the receiver wait until she's away, open it and pry a few components off the board. Or tape the transmitter to a waste pipe so she hears every time a toilet flushes.

Anyone have labor induced because of the size of the baby?

The doctor says it is possible that my baby is too big and he would consider inducing me. I am 38 weeks pregnant and I have an ultrasound tomorrow to check on his size. I do not have any medical conditions, he just has always measured further along. My question is, has anyone ever had an induction due to the size of the baby? And if so, how big was the baby? Thanks in advance!

Answer
Don't let anyone who hasn't experienced an induction scare you. I've had two successful inductions and I have two happy, healthy, intelligent little girls who are advanced for their age. Induction doesn't mean that harm will come to you or baby, the technology for monitoring the contractions is really sophisticated and baby's heart rate will also be continuously monitored as well. There is relatively little risk of fatality if the induction is performed for a good reason and under the supervision of an experienced OB/GYN. Sometimes induction saves the mother's life as in my case. I was diagnosed with preeclampsia with an extremely high spike in blood pressure, and protein in my urine. I could have had a heart attack or stroke from this pregnancy induced disease. Delivering baby in a timely way saved both our lives as this is the only cure for this life-threatening condition.

In my family the women tend to give birth to large babies (ie. 10-11 lbs) and we have relatively small frames. There are several of my siblings and cousins who had birth injuries because of their large size and drawn out complicated births. It is better to induce early if the Dr. thinks that there is a chance for macrosomia (big baby). In this case a child can be born with a brain bleed, like my sister did and she is mentally retarded and partially deaf. It was a birth injury. My cousin has learning disabilities as he was also birth injured. His long labor resulted in a forceps delivery and a broken collar bone in addition to head injuries because the babies in our family are heavy AND have big heads. Let your Dr's expertise be your guide. Better not to gamble with going to term if it looks like your baby is over 9 lbs. Some may disagree with me but I know two family members who were carried to term and wound up being 10 lb.+ babies and the mothers suffered long painful deliveries, episiotomies or 4th degree tears and had babies who grew up with major disabilities. I know from personal experience. Don't gamble with your baby's life. If the Dr. says "induce" then listen. It could make the difference in having a healthy child. They advise this for a reason.

I also have been diagnosed with a large baby and we may induce early. I'll be monitored with ultrasounds until my delivery to check for cephalopelvic disporportion and a large baby. If it goes over 9 lbs, I'm scheduling a C-section. Its worth the extra pain not to have a mentally handicapped child.

what is the probability of twins in the same sac being born healthy?

petrina

My doctor is really freaking me out about the fact that my twins are in the same sac and sharing the same placenta. I am 18 weeks now and he is telling me they have a 50% chance of making it if I let the pregnancy go pass 32 weeks. Now I am terrified of the umbilical cord rapping around there necks. Anybody have and experience this and have healthy babies?

Answer
Your are having "MoMo" babies (monochorionic, monoamniotic or one sac and one placenta)

Fortunately, modern technology allows doctors to observe babies in the womb, and monitor the situation. High resolution ultrasounds, doppler imaging and non-stress tests help to assess symptoms and identify potential cord problems. Cord entanglement and compression are generally a slow process, so parents and medical caregivers have time to make decisions. Some situations will require such close monitoring that the expectant mother must remain hospitalized.

There is no approved treatment or procedure to fix the situation. The only resolution is delivery of the babies. Virtually all MoMo babies are born prematurely. Doctors have to balance the risks of the babies' condition in the womb versus the consequences of prematurity. If cord compression occurs early in the pregnancy, the babies may not be able to survive. Some doctors elect to schedule delivery of MoMo babies at 32, 34 or 36 weeks, believing that the womb environment is simply too dangerous past that point in time. Sometimes steroids may be administered to boost the babies' lung development and improve their chances of surviving outside the womb.

A cesarean section is mandated for MoMo babies to avoid cord prolapse, a situation that occurs when the second babies cord is expelled as the first baby is delivered.

You are having a very rare type of twins as I'm sure you are already aware. Hang in there and let your doctor guide you through. You should have a lot more ultrasounds than normal to keep an eye on the cords and you should be seeing a high risk doctor and not just your regular ob. I am not in your shoes but I feel for you and I hope it all works out. Best of luck to you and your babies.
