Had a baby about 6 mnths ago and I was looking for the best way to get rid or shrink my stretch marks..

Answer
There are a few ways to do it, either you can use the DIY method or try those proven treatment creams out on the market.

Try to massage the area with the stretch marks about three or four times a day with moisturizers that contain cocoa butter or shea butter as a prime ingredient. This hydrates the skin, making it more pliant. Again, this is most effective only in the initial stage.

If your stretch marks are already pass the initial stage (when they are red, purple, pink, or brown, depending on the color of your skin) and become white or silver (usually with deep indentation), then it would be far more difficult to minimize them, but not entirely impossible to "remove" them. But before you begin searching for these treatments, try to read more information on these topical treatments first.

Many are advertised to "repair" stretch marks, but few have actually been proven to be effective. Here's some that are available on the market:

a) Wheat germ oil - may help improve stretch marks in their early phase.

b) Glycolic acid - increases collagen production; can be administered in higher doses by a dermatologist (usually costs a few hundred bucks and requires a few visits before you see results)

c) Vitamin C - certain formulations might increase collagen production, but they'll only help with early-stage stretch marks; for best results, combine with glycolic acid.

d) Relastin - the effectiveness of this product is unknown and unverified.

e) Peptide-containing products - these "repair" creams are ineffective; there's no evidence that they work.

f) Retinoids - they're fairly effective in increasing collagen and elastic production in the early stages, but they should be avoided if you're pregnant or nursing; they're more effective when used in combination with glycolic acid.

I would recommend treatments that are using "100% natural ingredients" such as aloe vera. Aloe vera has been shown in clinical studies to have a positive effect on wound healing and holds anti-inflammatory properties.

As stretch marks start out as microscopic tears in skin layers due to overstretching of the dermis, aloe vera helps heal these small wounds without causing scar tissue to form, effectively preventing the appearance of stretch marks. Aloe vera has been used for thousands of years by the Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, Arabs, Indians and Chinese to decrease the appearance of scars and to moisturize and heal skin. The extracts from the aloe leaf protects skin from environmental factors and promotes skin regeneration.

My friend recommended me this and I have been using for a few weeks now, have shown some positive results but I am monitoring the progress since the product have a 90 days return policy. For more details, you can check out the site here >>> http://is.gd/NHQQ

What is the best option for removing stretch marks?

Knock On M

A friend called me today asking me about the best option for removing stretch marks. In fact, she gave birth to a baby girl less than one month ago and now she is concerned about the marks that are on her abdomen.

I know that there are hundreds of products on the internet, but we don't know which one to choose. Please let me know if some one has used a specific brand and it has proved beneficial?

Thank you,

How would you cope with the fact your baby was going to be hooked up to all these machines???

best baby monitor for triplets image
Q. My three triplets are going to be premature . Just starring at the babies through the window hooked up to all those wires and machines and tubes just made my heart sink. How would you cope with the fact that one of your babies might die ? I and my husband are having a really hard time dealing with this I need help please help!

Answer
Here is my story:

I had twins - they were born at 37 weeks which is considered full-term for twins. Unfortunately, my daughter had aortic stenosis which is a heart defect where the aortic valve is too narrow for good blood flow. They found the defect on an ultrasound at 18 weeks . . . During the whole pregnancy she was monitored and we knew that there was a chance that they would need to deliver her even earlier than 37 weeks (also risking my other twins life) if her heart issue became worse.

Immediately after birth, I got to see her for a moment before she was triaged and wisked away to Children's Hospital. They performed heart surgery on her the very next day - she was only 5lbs 1 oz. She spent 10 days in the hospital hooked up to breathing tubes, feeding tubes and heart monitors. For the first couple of days she was in a medically induced coma. She didn't look real - more like a doll than a baby.

I was at the hospital across the street with my son, recovering from the c-section while my daughter was at a different hospital. I had to send my son to the nursery and request a wheelchair so that family members could take me across the street to see my daughter. I spent a lot of time alone in my room with my son as my husband and parents were with my daughter - she just seemed to need them more. It was the most difficult time of my life.

In the end - my twins are currently napping in their bouncy chairs at this very moment - they are now 4 months old. My son is just fine and my daughter still has a heart issue (she will always have one) but she is currently fine and she sees a cardiologist regularly to make sure that she continues to do fine or to schedule surgery in the future if it becomes neccessary.

I know that you are probably stressed and I know that it is hard to deal with . . . I wish that I had the magic answer for you . . .

Here is my advice - find doctors that you like, tour the NICU so that you will know where your triplets might be, take really good care of yourself - the longer they are in you . . . the better. Don't dwell on the what ifs and the worst case scenarios . . . women have had triplets and they have been just fine. They might not be hooked up to any machines. I joined a support group for parents of multiples before I had my twins (you can do a google search for multiples support groups in your area)- it helped a lot to know other women that have been through it. After that just take it day by day and build your support system with family and friends.

You and your husband WILL get through this . . . parents don't have a choice. You simply do it, you simply get through it . . . and it will always pull at your heartstrings and bring tears to your eyes when you look back on it. If you are religious, prayer never hurt!

Feel free to email me through my profile - I am sending you loads of positive thoughts!

May i know what causes some women to have high blood pressure during pregnacy and what causes toxins?

ladymonze

Before this pregnacy my sister lost her baby during child birth. The doc said she had toxins and her uric acid was high.Is it safe for her to have another baby am worried please advise. She is 43years old.

Answer
Anyone over the age of 40 is considered a high risk pregnancy first off. High blood pressure during pregnancy is caused by 1 of 3 things...

Chronic hypertension: A woman can have high blood pressure before she gets pregnant. Sometimes a woman has high blood pressure for a long time before she gets pregnant, but she doesn't know it until her first prenatal check-up.

Preeclampsia: This condition can cause serious problems for both the mother and the baby. It only happens in the second half of pregnancy. It causes high blood pressure, protein in the urine, blood changes and other problems. (The only cure for this type of high blood pressure is delivery of the baby)

Transient hypertension: Some women just get high blood pressure near the end of pregnancy. They don't have any other signs of preeclampsia.

As far as Toxins go, I am not sure what you are referring to, but I will take a guess most toxins would be an environmental toxin that the mother was exposed to in the early stages of pregnancy, but pre-eclapsia, can cause a dangerous state for both mother and baby.

Here is some more information I thought you might find helpful

What Are the Effects of High Blood Pressure in Pregnancy?
Although many pregnant women with high blood pressure have healthy babies without serious problems, high blood pressure can be dangerous for both the mother and the fetus. Women with pre-existing, or chronic, high blood pressure are more likely to have certain complications during pregnancy than those with normal blood pressure. However, some women develop high blood pressure while they are pregnant (often called gestational hypertension).

The effects of high blood pressure range from mild to severe. High blood pressure can harm the mother's kidneys and other organs, and it can cause low birth weight and early delivery. In the most serious cases, the mother develops preeclampsia--or "toxemia of pregnancy"--which can threaten the lives of both the mother and the fetus.

What Is Preeclampsia?
Preeclampsia is a condition that typically starts after the 20th week of pregnancy and is related to increased blood pressure and protein in the mother's urine (as a result of kidney problems). Preeclampsia affects the placenta, and it can affect the mother's kidney, liver, and brain. When preeclampsia causes seizures, the condition is known as eclampsia--the second leading cause of maternal death in the U.S. Preeclampsia is also a leading cause of fetal complications, which include low birth weight, premature birth, and stillbirth.

There is no proven way to prevent preeclampsia. Most women who develop signs of preeclampsia, however, are closely monitored to lessen or avoid related problems. The only way to "cure" preeclampsia is to deliver the baby.

How Common Are High Blood Pressure and Preeclampsia in Pregnancy?
High blood pressure problems occur in 6 percent to 8 percent of all pregnancies in the U.S., about 70 percent of which are first-time pregnancies. In 1998, more than 146,320 cases of preeclampsia alone were diagnosed.

Although the proportion of pregnancies with gestational hypertension and eclampsia has remained about the same in the U.S. over the past decade, the rate of preeclampsia has increased by nearly one-third. This increase is due in part to a rise in the numbers of older mothers and of multiple births, where preeclampsia occurs more frequently. For example, in 1998 birth rates among women ages 30 to 44 and the number of births to women ages 45 and older were at the highest levels in 3 decades, according to the National Center for Health Statistics. Furthermore, between 1980 and 1998, rates of twin births increased about 50 percent overall and 1,000 percent among women ages 45 to 49; rates of triplet and other higher-order multiple births jumped more than 400 percent overall, and 1,000 percent among women in their 40s.

Best way to track my fitness with iPhone apps?

philscalis

I have a degree in exercise science and am going to school for physical therapy now and really want to track my fitness now that I have an iPhone and I know the importance of health. However, after researching apps I'm not sure the best app or app combination to use. I want to get a heart rate monitor (wahoo or polar?) and many of the apps will sync with it. I want to track calories, GPS run mapping capabilities, nutritious intake, and I want to track my strength training regimen (sets, reps, etc). The my fitness pal app seems to do some of these things and you can also tie in other apps or sync them with it. However there are so many other ones and I want to know the best way to do this if anyone can help. So far I have downloaded: my fitness pal, endomondo, fitocracy, sportstracker, runkeeper, real intelligence fitness app, and digifit icardio. If someone can help me out it would be much appreciated. I would try them out but don't want to give my info and make an account for all of these apps if they aren't what I want.

Answer
I track some of the same stuff you do, but not everything and I've tried some of the products you have, but not all. However, here's my take:

1. I use Runkeeper as my basic app. I'm primarily a runner and so are most of my friends. It links easily to facebook if you are interested in that. For me, this is how I communicate with my running community. It has some other basic cardio functions in it as well (elliptical, etc)
2. Runkeeper has a GPS function to be used with the iphone, it's generally accurate within 0.1-0.3 mile. However, when I want to be really accurate, I still default to my garmin which I can still link to my Runkeeper account. (ie, when I'm racing or want to track elevation)
3. Realize also that when you use GPS function on your phone, it will wear down the battery very quickly. I'll use the Runkeeper GPS function if I'm running or cycling an hour or less, but it's not ideal for long distances.
4. Runkeeper and probably most fitness apps will link to a heart rate monitor. However, I'd first ask why you intend to use one? As a PT, myself, I've come to the realization that unless you have a medical condition that warrants it, tracking heart rate is overly burdensome for little pay off. Just used your rate of Rate of Perceived Exertion. Whether you are doing intervals or tempo workouts, it's your exertional effort that's the real issue. Most of the established "guidelines" for heart rate during exercise were established for patients recovering from cardiac events, not necessarily for healthy adult fitness. So, unless you want to get into research about cardiac effort, I'd say don't bother. I suppose you can use it if you want to get a MORE accurate idea of your caloric burn, but I have better options for that (more later). I DIDN"T use one for years, mostly because I take a beta blocker which throws the whole target heart rate out the window anyway. I'm using one now (more on that in a minute) only because I'm pregnant and NEED to make sure my heart rate doesn't go over a certain amount (and I have arguements about that anyway). I use the iphone app with it, but haven't linked it to my RK. It does record it on the wahoo site, but I never go back and look at it. The wahoo site also does GPS and if you get the hardware, you can link it with your bike or a foot pod.
5. If you do want to use a HR monitor, I use the wahoo. My husband and I both have Garmin 910XT's and even though he got the heart rate monitor for it, he's happier with the wahoo. Again, he's not even using it anymore and I am. However, I don't even bother logging my heart rate...I use it only as a warning system. I do think I can link it with RK, but haven't bothered. Once I have the baby, I'll stop using it. Not sure why hubby doesn't like the garmin monitor...I just took his word for it.
6. Now, onto strength. RK doesn't really have a place to log this. I used MapMyRun for awhile which at least gave me an idea of how long I was weight lifting and an approximation of calories. In my opinion, if you are looking for an app that does everything, I'd say be prepared for a really complicated app. I found that the more features it has, the less user friendly it becomes. This is how I felt about MMR. For strength training, I'd consider a separate app. Same thing goes for nutrition. There are probably apps out there designed just for that which are much more user friendly.
7. Back to calorie counting. All the apps give you a basic ESTIMATION of your calories burned based on your weight and work out parameters. Even if you are using a heart rate monitor, again, this is only an ESTIMATE. Unless you are in a lab, all these tools provide estimates only. However, if you really want to know what your body is using and burning, I'd recommend the Body Media System. It's about as accurate as you can get with calorie count without having to be in a lab. The web app also has a nutritional log.

So here's my take in a nutshell:
1. Use a basic app for your cardio. Runkeeper is my personal favorite. Only use the GPS for shorter workouts
2. Use a separate GPS (I've only used garmins) if you want to be really accurate with your distance or if you are doing a long work out and simply sync it to your cardio app (like RK) from the garmin site.
3. Don't bother with a HR monitor unless you have a medical reason to do so
4. Use a separate app for your weight lifting and nutrition.
5. Consider a body media system if you REALLY want an accurate calorie count. It's expensive new, but I got a Core basic system used on ebay for $32. (myself, I'm content using the basic estimates from my cardio app).

Maybe there's an app that does everything, but I find that it gets too complicated....I don't want to spend 30 minutes logging my info.

As a career? How do you decide what you will go to school for, what school, and what career you will like?

Answer
Go online and look at the websites for several colleges-state colleges, big and little state and private schools, and then look at the majors thaT those colleges offer. I didn't even know till I met my freshman roommate that you could major in speech and hearing theraspy and be a speech therapist.
You'll be surprised at all of the choices. Then, think about what your strengths are. If you're good at math and science, you might choose a chemistry or biology major. If you're good at writing, consider an English major. If you want to live in a foreign country-major in a foreign language.

Whatever you major in in college will lead you toward a certain career field.

Another suggestion, check out books from the library that include descriptions of careers and see what careers suit your personality.

Last--do your homework. Here's some info I just found by just searching the key term "top careeers of the future" in Yahoo.

Yahoo lists the info below as some of the best future career fields:

Did birth control make your boobs bigger?

Gail

I've thought about birth control pills but one of the main reasons I've hesitated is because I don't want it to change my breast size.

Has anyone experienced this type of change, or any other physical change (weight gain)? Or have you seen it happen to a friend?

Thanks!

Answer
Birth control doesn't make breasts bigger or cause weight gain.

The synthetic hormones in hormonal birth control can cause the ducts in your breasts to swell, this shouldn't be much more than you'd see at certain points in your cycle anyway and is not long-term - if you do experience breast swelling like this while on the pill it may be a sign that the brand or type you're using is not best for you so discuss with your doctor. Also what often happens is that many women unfortunately start using this type of birth control when they're still quite young, so they see normal breast growth in their teens or early twenties and assume it's to do with the pill.

Weight gain doesn't occur on hormonal birth control, it may have done with older forms, but research has shown other than a small amount of water weight gain hormonal birth control doesn't really cause weight gain at all. See this article; Do birth control pills make women gain weight? - http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/medical_examiner/2011/08/baby_fat.html

When it comes to birth control it effects your whole body so there is a whole range of potential serious side-effects, it suppresses your cycles so you can no longer monitor them for sexual health purposes and it suppresses physical, mental and emotional benefits of your cycles. Really your last concern when it comes to side-effects should be whether you'd gain weight.

Tell me more bout their
a)habitat,
b)what type of situations they are facing BESIDES being hunted down by man.
c)Don't frighten me by giving me ans more then 3hundred words!! that happened before and i was dizzy with WORDS.
Try to give ur ans in details and extra stuff are welcome too.
!QIEN245!

Answer
Harp seals resemble harbor seals in body and head form, but are larger: adult Harp Seals grow to 1.7 m long and can weigh over 130 kg. The baby Harp seals are all white, which helps them blend in with the snow. Adults are grey or white with black markings on their back and on their head. Polar Bears, sharks, Orcas, and in some areas Walruses are natural predators of Harp Seals. Inuits living in the region hunt them mainly for sport and to a lesser extent, commercial reasons. They are often given different names according to their age :
“Whitecoats” : Birth
“Ragged Jackets” : 2-4 weeks
“Beaters” : 4 weeks to 1 year
“Bedlamers” : 1 to 4 years
“Spotted Harp” : 4 to 7 years
“Dark Harp” : mature/adult

arp Seal separates into three populations according to their breeding locations: the White Sea, the West Ice and Northwest Atlantic. Seals breeding in the Northwest Atlantic near Newfoundland, Canada represent the largest population and are genetically different from seals breeding in the two other places, which have not been proven genetically different from each other. All three populations are hunted commercially, mainly by Canada, Norway, Russia and Greenland

There are no reliable estimates of the size of Northwest Atlantic population when commercial hunting began in the early 1800s.Several simulation models estimated virginal populations to be in the 3 to 4 million range. It is considered that the population recovered to about 3 million at the end of World War II, but subsequently declined by 50–66% between 1950 and 1970 due to commercial hunting in Canada. Quotas and other conservation measures since then have enabled the population to nearly triple in size to 5.2 million according to a peer-reviewed survey in 1999.

ature females usually give birth to one pup in March/April each year. The pups are born within well defined areas in the drift ice in the White Sea or in the area between Jan Mayen and East Greenland (the West Ice population). The Harp Seal is migrating searching for food over large areas in the Barents Sea, the Norwegian Sea, the Greenland Sea and the Denmark Strait. Age of maturation is 4–8 years, normal life length more than 30 years. An adult animal is about 1.9 m long with a weight around 200 kg.
The population size was in 2000 estimated to more than 300,000 animals in the White Sea and 361,000 animals in the West Ice.
The annual prey consumption was in 2000 estimated to about 3.5 million tonnes in the White Sea area (Nilssen et al 2000).

n Canada, the season for the commercial hunt of harp seal is from November 15 to May 15. The majority of sealing, however, occurs in late March in The Gulf of St. Lawrence, and during the first or second week of April off Newfoundland, in an area known as "The Front". This peak spring period is generally what is referred to as the "Canadian Seal Hunt". In 2006, the St. Lawrence seal hunt officially started on March 25. This date was initially uncertain, due to thin ice conditions caused by the year's milder temperatures.
In 2003, the three-year harp seal quota granted by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans was increased to a maximum of 975,000 animals, with a maximum of 350,000 animals in any two consecutive years. In 2006, 325,000 harp seals, as well as 10,000 hooded seals and 10,400 grey seals will be killed. An additional 10,000 animals are allocated for hunting by Aboriginal peoples.
The Canadian seal hunt is monitored by the Canadian government. However, although approximately 70% of Canadian seals killed are killed on "The Front", the vast majority of private monitors focus on the St. Lawrence hunt, due to its more convenient location.
The 2006 St. Lawrence leg of the hunt was officially closed on April 3, 2006. Sealers had exceeded the quota by 1,000 animals by the time the hunt was closed.
While the Inuit hunt seals for food, tools, energy, clothes, and art, the commercial hunters only hunt for hides, often leaving the body intact. The only part the Inuit do not use is the bladder, which they float to sea as part of custom.

Harp Seals eat a wide variety of fish and other sea creatures, and their diet seems to vary during different stages of life. Since reporting of the stomach contents of killed seals began in 1941, at least 67 species of fish and 70 species of invertebrates have been found to be part of the Harp Seal's diet. After the Canadian cod collapse many French fishermen and politicians blamed Harp Seals for the destruction and hindering the recovery of the North-West Atlantic Cod population. Although cod is a major contribution to Harp Seals diets, most of the cod is Arctic Cod and not the commercial Atlantic. The ratio is about 36:10 although the total tonnage of cod is around 200,000 tonnes. Although the effect of record population levels of harp seals on the recovery of the Atlantic cod stocks has been disputed, the accumulated evidence is such that most scientists now accept that cod populations are now in a seal predator trap. It is widely accepted that harp seals did not cause the collapse. However, a strong case can be made that both harp and hooded seals contributed to that collapse, as did other factors such as environmental change and marine community shifts. The issue with most regarding the cod stocks is that if the hunting were to stop, the population would grow and therefore cause total prey consumption to increase. Even with heavy hunting, from 1990 to 1999 there was a 800,000-tonne (32%) increase in fish consumption by seals. If the hunt were to stop, the belief is that the population would skyrocket and within a few years more than likely double the consumption rate. The Harp Seal is at the top of its food chain and has few natural predators to keep its population at bay. For more information, review Northwest Atlantic Harp Seals Stock Status Report 2000 from the Canadian Government.

Each year, mature females (5-6 years old) give birth to a single pup, typically in late February. Pups weigh approximately 10 kg and are 80–85 cm long. Immediately after giving birth, the mother smells her offspring, and from that point on will only ever feed her own pup, whose scent she remembers. Harp Seal milk contains up to 50% fat, so pups gain over 2 kg per day when nursing, which lasts roughly 12 days. During this time the mother does not eat, and will lose up to 3 kg per day of body weight. Weaning is abrupt; the mother simply leaves and never comes back. The stranded pup will cry at first, and then become very sedentary to conserve body fat.
Pups are unable to swim or find food until they are about 25 days old, leaving them very vulnerable to Polar Bears and humans during this time. Due in part to the period of helplessness as infants, and to the long time it takes them to become proficient swimmers, as many as 30% of pups fail to survive their first year. Also, although it is not legal to catch seals using nets, thousands of seals are inadvertently killed in commercial fishing nets every year.
As mother Harp Seals wean their young, mature males (6–7 years old) roam around breeding with the females promiscuously. Courtship begins on the ice; however the actual mating takes place in the water. Harp Seals have delayed implantation, meaning the fertilized egg becomes an embryo, but does not implant in the uterus right away. The embryo will float around for about three and a half months before implanting and beginning to grow. This allows all the females to give birth within a very small time window each year, when the ice pack is available for giving birth and raising their young.

Answer
Astrology is rubbish, says new research
Times of India/August 17, 2003

London -- Extensive scientific research over more than 40 years has finally confirmed what many always believed: that astrology is rubbish, and that it is based on the principle of deception.

The research began in London in 1958, and has just been published in the current edition of the respected Journal of Consciousness Studies. It is hailed as the most thorough scientific study ever made into the subject.

Astrologers have for centuries claimed to be able to extract deep insights into the personality and destiny of people using nothing more than the details of the time and place of birth.

The research debunks astrology's central claim - that human characteristics are moulded by the influence of the Sun, Moon and planets at the time of a person's birth.

The findings caused alarm and anger in astrological circles. Roy Gillett, the president of the Astrological Association of Great Britain, told The Telegraph the study's findings should be treated "with extreme caution" and accused the researchers of seeking to "discredit astrology."

In the course of the study, researchers tracked more than 2,000 people over several decades - most of them born within minutes of each other. According to astrology, the subjects should have had very similar traits.

The babies were originally recruited as part of a medical study into how the circumstances of birth can affect future health. More than 2,000 babies born in early March that year were registered and their development monitored at regular intervals.

Researchers looked at more than 100 different characteristics, including occupation, anxiety levels, marital status, aggressiveness, sociability, IQ levels and ability in art, sport, mathematics and reading - all of which astrologers claim can be gauged from birth charts.

The scientists failed to find any evidence of similarities between the "time twins", however. "The test conditions could hardly have been more conducive to success... but the results are uniformly negative," the research report said.

Analysis of the research was carried out by Geoffrey Dean, a scientist and former astrologer based in Perth, Australia, and Ivan Kelly, a psychologist at the University of Saskatchewan, Canada.

Dean said that the consistency of the findings weighed heavily against astrology.

"It has no acceptable mechanism, its principles are invalid and it has failed hundreds of tests. But no hint of these problems will be found in astrology books which, in effect, are exercises in deception," he said.

Dean is ready for a torrent of criticism: "I'm probably the most hated person in astrology because I'm regarded as a turncoat."

The research undermined the claims of astrologers, who typically work with birth data far less precise than that used in the study.

Dean said: "They sometimes argue that times of birth just a minute apart can make all the difference by altering what they call the 'house cusps'," he said. "But in their work, they are happy to take whatever time they can get from a client."

Dean and Kelly also sought to determine whether stargazers could match a birth chart to the personality profile of a person among a random selection.

They reviewed the evidence from more than 40 studies involving over 700 astrologers, but found the results turned out no better than guesswork.

The success rate did not improve even when astrologers were given all the information they asked for and were confident they had made the right choice.

Joe

hi, i'm looking to buy an external audio interface. which one should i get?
the main reason is to get the best sound quality i can out of my monitors (KRK Rokit 6s)
however it'd be good to be able to plug an instrument or mic or two in as well.
my budget is about £150 roughly (or around $230 for you Americans)
i also need help with the cabling. i think XLR is what i want, but the KRKs also have TRS (and unbalanced RCA). any advice about the different cabling would be much appreciated too.

interfaces i've been looking at already are the M-Audio Fast Track Pro or variations of and the Presonus Audiobox... any other suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!
also, it needs to be able to work with my Windows 7 (64 bit) PC and a MAC laptop i'm getting shortly

Answer
One of the things that you need to be cautious about is the stability of drivers. There are a lot of audio interfaces out there that do the job in terms of hardware and features. But their compatibility with software is horrible due to faulty drivers. Especially since you plan to use that on a 64-bit Windows 7 for a while, driver stability is all the more important.

I would advise you to buy the Focusrite Saffire 6 USB. It is available on Amazon UK for exactly £150. It has 2 microphone/instrument inputs with phantom power. And apart from RCA outputs, it has 1/4'' Phono outputs too(which is exactly the same thing as TRS. This baby's drivers are SO solid that it responds well to anything I throw at it. For my last song, it ran 24 tracks of audio with three plugins on each track! It is built like a tank, so it'll last a while too.

Now in comparison to the M-Audio Fast Track, this is far far better. My friend has the M-Audio, so I have hands on experience with both these interfaces. The pre-amps in the M-Audio are just not as good and the output is a bit muddier. The build quality is not as good, and there are a few latency issues. And more importantly, the drivers are a hit and a miss. So I would advise you to stay away from M-Audio Interfaces. Their keyboards and monitors are great. Interfaces, not so much.

I am not sure about the Presonus as I haven't used it. But this is what I found from a review. And if you are a guitar player this might effect you:

"I tried the PreSonus AudioBox recently and was extremely disappointed with it. I didn't try it with a microphone since I'm usually recording guitars direct, but the preamps are designed to ALWAYS have 20 db of gain being applied even with the input turned all the way down. I looked this up on their official forums, and it is intentional. Because of this, I was never able to get a signal that wouldn't clip when palm muting (even with passive pickups). They don't have any kind of software mixer either, so you have to buy an attenuator pad or find some other workaround.

There's also a knob that you use to blend the mix between the hardware direct monitoring signal and the regular output. Even with the knob turned all the way to the regular output side, you still get some "leak" from the direct signal coming through the monitors. This can cause feedback problems, give you inaccurate monitoring (in my situation, because I'm hearing dry/clean guitar signal at the same time as amp sim VSTs), and is just a general pain in the ass.

And just to add icing on the cake...I also discovered that the output starts digitally clipping with the output knob at only 9 O'CLOCK! Ridiculous."

So in conclusion. I will hands down recommend the Focusrite Saffire 6 USB. And if it is of any good, it is an English company based in High Wycombe (looked up wikipedia). So it is always good to work with a local company as support is far more available. M-Audio support is terrible. Enjoy!

First time mom here, just registered for my shower yesterday & wondering what products are the best?

Q. Im almost 19 weeks pregnant & had a gender ultrasound yesterday & found out that Im expecting a GIRL! So, we registered right after my appointment at Target & since Im a first time mom we werent sure on a few things to put on the registry. Im wondering if any moms can give me advice & recommendations on the following items that worked best for you & are useful.

The following are things we didnt add to the registry, but are planning to today after getting some reviews on the best ones at Target.

1) Bottles, I have no clue what types are good for newborns. Im not going to breastfeed because Im taking blood pressure meds & dont want to pass to baby, so just bottle feeding

2) Bottle sterilization - which is better, steam or microwave? And which brands?

3) Monitors - This is a very hard one for me. Is video really better? Digital? Analog? Im so clueless on this one

4) Bassinette - We plan on having baby in one in our room the first couple of months. Should I go with something neutral as we are planning to have another child in the future & dont want to have to get another if we get a girly one now & then end up having a boy later. Any certain types better than others?

5) Humidifier - There are cute animals ones at Target (I like the frog) is that a good one, or a Vicks?

6) Sling - Do babies really like these? They look uncomfortable the ones that curve across the body, like babys neck is being strained. And which brand, kind?

**** Thanks ladies, Im a first time mom & just want to get the right stuff not to waste other peoples money & have things that are useful. Baby stuff is so expensive!! Any other tips, advice on anything I forgot is helpful! ****

Answer
1) VERY Hard to choose before the baby is born. Skip adding this and just purchase 2-4 bottles yourself of your choosing, Dr Browns is a good choice but expensive or Avent or similar or also good. Once you know she will definately drink out of them then go out and buy more. If she doesn't like them you'll have wasted a lot of money having to replace them for other ones. Just keep some money aside under your mattress for when the time comes!

2)Microwave!!!! Soooo much quicker and easier. Takes like 4 mins for 4 bottles! Steam is overrated and waaay to expensive compared to the microwave one.
If you own a dishwasher, wash the bottles in hot soapy water, rinse in hot water (what you have to do before using any steriliser anyway), and throw them in the washer instead.

3) I chose just a regular one without all the bells and whistles. I only need to hear my baby and that is it. All those extra bits and pieces is just a marketing ploy. Just use a regular one with good sound clarity. Mine is a basic fisher price sound and lights monitor and it works just perfectly. Its not like I can see my baby when I'm sleeping anyway and thats really when you need it. It does have a little night light on it which I do recommend though. This is it and is great.
http://www.viewpoints.com/images/review/2009/126/4/1241601168-90347_full.jpg

4) Def get a neutral one. Dont get a pink or blue. I do like the idea of the arms reach co sleeper that the other person said but only if its on wheels and the side that juts up to the parents bed can actually be closed off so you can utilise it in other areas of the house. if you don't know what they are heres a link
http://www.totscorner.co.uk/images/Universal_CoSleeper.jpg
otherwise a normal, neutral coloured one is great. Nothing too fancy with music, vibrating, rocking or anything like that. Its a complete waste of the extra money and those functions will not get used especially as its only for the first couple of months when a newborn could care less about it lol

5) Def get the vicks one. It will last, the novelty ones will not

6) I tried slings and carriers. Gave me such a sore back and were uncomfortable and I felt less than agile and more cumbersome than when I was pregnant, if thats even possible! but others swear by them, its personal preference. I'd rather put my baby in his or her pram/stroller to be honest. It was okay when they were less than 12 weeks old but after that it just made me way too sore.
Apparently the contoured slings are fine for them because when you think about it they are all scrunched up in the womb so being in those slings is apprently no different. I wouldn't use one personally

Hope that helps! Good Luck!!

Does anyone have the "breathing baby monitors" That will sound an alarm if the baby stops breathing? Im curious if they actually work, or if there are alot of false alarms. Ive been reading about one called angel care.. the under mattress pad is supposed to detect all the baby's movement including breathing.

Answer
ive got the angel care,,,,, THE BEST THING IVE EVER BROUGHT IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

ive got 4 kids, and brought it when i had my 3rd,,, it really gives peace of mind,,, with my first 2 kids i used to check if they were breathing 24-7
with the angelcare, u hear every breath they make with the movement ticking sound,,, its fantastic

ive had probably 5 false alarms,,, but researched that, and found out a baby can occasionally pause their breathing for 20 seconds,,, my babies were ok
but as much as i stress, the false alarms are nothing compared to the peace of mind i get from this monitor

my freind is a nurse at the childrens hospital,,, and even she has this monitor,, so its definately good

go and buy one NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When do you get concerned about baby movement?

A monkey,

I am 27 weeks, from the start I feel the baby here and there throughout the day, sometimes one kick or a couple and at night. But I thought that around this time I would feel the baby all the time. Have any of you have none so active babies? I figure that maybe he does kick and I just don't feel it.

Answer
My baby girl didn't kick that much, but I knew it was normal for her. If your worried about it then it wouldn't hurt to call your doctor and see if you should go get monitored to make sure everything is going good and the baby isn't in stress.

I have 3 smartphones in my home, 5 laptops, 2 ipads, and one smart vizeo tv.
I have a D-link DIR-850L Wireless router...
(The router is located in the family room, and most of the devices stay downstairs near the router, the smart tv is upstairs though....i don't know if this makes a difference)

What devices should be connected to the 2.4ghz and which devices should be connected to the 5ghz network..?

Thanks for any help! :)

Answer
It's incredible what people don't know about dual speed routers. You also want a "simultaneous" dual speed router so it will support both at the same time. Otherwise it will only run at the lower speed.
~
All 802.11b and g devices run on 2.4GHz only. That is also where a lot of your other devices run like Bluetooth, baby monitors etc.

5GHz is for 802.11n and has a higher speed and less interference. Great for video streaming & gaming. Nothing, repeat, NOTHING, can share both & "double the speed". No such animal.

Your router has no relationship to what your ISP uses.

Baby Monitor Help!?

Hi Ya'll

My monitor doesn't pick up voices or other peoples monitors, but it makes this really load noise spontaneously from "cell phone waves". It makes the same noise that your t.v. does right before someone calls you (if you have a new phone/bluetooth - not sure what sends these waves). My baby monitor picks them up at an extremely high volume - even when our phones are off.

Please, can someone who's had this problem and found a solution help?

Answer
Its your cell phone posting to the nearest tower dont put your phone near your monitor.

okay i have tried all the products and all the remedies on yahoo answers. still no help. im already thinking about moving. i have never had this problem before. my house is really infested with ants. it is the sweet lovong ants. the ones that are brown. they are every were on my computer on my monitor right now under the bed on the sink i mean every were and in millions.

Answer
Those kind of ants HATE baby powder...try sprinkling that around, it should get rid of them soon or you can use a mixture of 50/50 water and vinegar and pour it into a spray bottle. Spray the surface with the solution several times a day. Ants guide themselves with their scent. Vinegar has a natural chemical that alters ants' scent and which ants avoid. OR this one may sound crazy but...outside set a pop can with a tiny bit of pop left in it. They will end up going there instead of the home.

How to help a pregnant friend?

Rowan's Mo

I just found out my friend that's 3 months pregnant is in danger. She has a mass growing in or around her uterus (not sure exactly I heard this from my mom, whom she works with.) They are going to have to remove the baby at 6 months because of it. Is there any way I can reassure her that the baby should be fine and she will be too, without sounding like a liar?
I mean I'm sure the baby will be fine but I'm worried that if it's a cancerous mass and they can't do anything about it for 3 more months that I may lose her.

Answer
The baby is going to be very sick and will need to be in the NICU. The NICU is designed to provide an atmosphere that limits stress to the infant and meets basic needs of warmth, nutrition, and protection to assure proper growth and development. Due to many recent advances, more than 90% of premature babies who weigh 800 grams or more (a little less than 2 pounds) survive. Those who weigh more than 500 grams (a little more than 1 pound) have a 40% to 50% chance of survival, although their chances of complications are greater
Premature babies lack the body fat necessary to maintain their body temperature, even when swaddled with blankets. Therefore, incubators or radiant warmers are used to keep the babies warm. Incubators are made of transparent plastic, and they completely surround an infant to keep him or her warm, decrease the chance of infection, and limit water loss. Radiant warmers are electrically warmed beds open to the air. These are used when the medical staff needs frequent access to the baby for care.
Premature babies have special nutritional needs because they grow at a faster rate than full-term babies and their digestive systems are immature. Neonatologists (pediatricians who specialize in the care of newborns) measure their weight in grams, not pounds and ounces. Full-term babies usually weigh more than 2,500 grams (about 5 pounds, 8 ounces), whereas premature babies weigh anywhere from about 500 to 2,500 grams.
Premature infants are prone to a number of problems, mostly because their internal organs aren't completely ready to function on their own. In general, the more premature the infant, the higher the risk of complications.
A common treatable condition of premature babies is hyperbilirubinemia, which affects 80% of premature infants. Infants with hyperbilirubinemia have high levels of bilirubin, a compound that results from the natural breakdown of blood. This high level of bilirubin causes them to develop jaundice, a yellow discoloration of the skin and whites of the eyes. Although mild jaundice is fairly common in full-term babies (about 60%), it's much more common in premature babies. Extremely high levels of bilirubin can cause brain damage, so premature infants are monitored for jaundice and treated quickly, before bilirubin reaches dangerous levels. Jaundiced infants are placed under special lights that help the body eliminate bilirubin. Rarely, blood exchange transfusions are used to treat severe jaundice.
Apnea is another common health problem among premature babies. During an apnea spell, a baby stops breathing, the heart rate may decrease, and the skin may turn pale, purplish, or blue. Apnea is usually caused by immaturity in the area of the brain that controls the drive to breathe. Almost all babies born at 30 weeks or less will experience apnea. Apnea spells become less frequent with age.
Low blood pressure is a relatively common complication that may occur shortly after birth. It can be due to infection, blood loss, fluid loss, or medications given to the mother before delivery. Low blood pressure is treated by increasing fluid intake or prescribing medications. Infants who have low blood pressure due to blood loss may need a blood transfusion.
One of the most common and immediate problems facing premature infants is difficulty breathing. Although there are many causes of breathing difficulties in premature infants, the most common is called respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). In RDS, the infant's immature lungs don't produce enough of an important substance called surfactant. Surfactant allows the inner surface of the lungs to expand properly when the infant makes the change from the womb to breathing air after birth. Fortunately, RDS is treatable and many infants do quite well. When premature delivery can't be stopped, most pregnant women can be given medication just before delivery to hasten the production of surfactant in the infant's lungs and help prevent RDS. Then, immediately after birth and several times later, artificial surfactant can be given to the infant if needed. Although most premature babies who lack surfactant will require a breathing machine, or ventilator, for a while, the use of artificial surfactant has greatly decreased the amount of time that infants spend on the ventilator.
As for your friend, since they saw the mass and know how soon they need to get the baby out before it can cause major problems then she'll probably be fine. She may need to undergo chemotherapy and possibly radiation if it is cancerous but chances are they'll get it all. Hopefully they don't have to do a hysterectomy just in case the baby doesn't pull through at such an early age. Your friend is going to be going through a lot throughout that time and will just need a friend. Remember if she pushes you away it's only because life is going to be really difficult for her for awhile. Good luck to her and the baby.

I just moved my 6-month old into her crib at night (she'd been in bed with us before that) and I'm a nervous wreck all night because I can't monitor her breathing.

I'm wondering about the infant movement sensors now and I want to know if it's worth it to purchase at this stage since my baby moves all over the place in her sleep. I place her at one end and by morning she's clear across the other end, curled up in the corner. Won't this set off the alarm all the time if she's not right on top of the sensor mat?

Please share your experiences and let me know if it works for your 6+ month old baby. Thanks!

Answer
The risk of SIDS at 6 months old has decreased so much. If your baby moves around a lot then no its not worth it. It might go off in the middle of night and freak you out. We have used ours since my son was about 2 months and I am thinking about putting it away since he can now roll in both directions.Yes it will set off the alarm.

Ours beeped last night like it was about to go off. It freaked me out I ran into the room and my son was clear across the crib. I just shut it off.

At what age should a newborn begin sleeping in the nursery?

My daughter is 8 days old and has been sleeping in a bassinet beside our bed. How long should she sleep in the bassinet in the master bedroom before she can begin to sleep in the nursery? In case it matters, the nursery is across the hall from the master bedroom on the second floor of my house and we have baby monitoring video/audio equipment and we have the pads that prevent her from rolling over onto her stomach.

Answer
The people who are answering (so far) are giving you their opinions. But the AAP safe sleep guidelines (SIDS prevention) recommend that a baby be in the parents' room for 6 months or more. This is so that she can monitor your (more mature) sleep patterns. It as nothing to do with 'safety equipment" which can not substitute for a parents' presence.

What did you do or what are you currently doing?

Christi

Did you/do you use a baby monitor with the baby in the other room at night...or did/does your baby sleep in your room?

Do you think any either of those are a bad choice?

Answer
My son slept in our room with us until he was reliably sleeping through the night. After that we moved him into his own room across the hall. I wanted to keep him as close to me as possible when he was waking up often at night so that I wouldn't have to walk as far to get him and put him back to bed. Lazy, I know, but practical. He slept in his bassinet at the foot of my bed, which meant I didn't even have to get out of bed to tend to him. I just don't see any joy in getting out of bed, walking around the house, getting baby, putting baby back, and walking back to bed when you have to do it several times a night.

We moved him into his own room across the hall, left both doors open, and I made certain the baby monitor was positioned close to my head so that I would hear him. I don't know what I was thinking, but we didn't need the baby monitor at all. I mean, he was only 20-30 feet away with both doors open. When he cried, I heard him. Even in our larger home now, I can hear him cry across the house with both of our bedroom doors shut.

No, I don't think either choices are inherently bad. I do think that co-sleeping, done properly, is the safest option for a newborn since it prevents SIDS. It also helps babies sleep better.

How do I take kittens away from their feral mother?

Sophia Sim

Recently we've noticed a young looking tuxedo cat that goes underneath our shed a lot. My mom suggested that she was eating baby possums but I just told her to let the cat be. But lo and behold after about a month of this behavior two tabby kittens join the mother outside the shed. Our shed is in it's own separate location with fencing surrounding it so the kittens can't leave yet but the mother can. Anyway once we discovered that she had kittens underneath the shed we began to feed her and monitor them with a security camera, over the past few weeks we've been dedicated to the kittens. They are about 5-6 weeks old. Now on to the question. We really would like to take these kittens in but the mother is obviously too feral to domesticate but the kittens have potential. So what I'm asking is if it's okay to take the kittens without the mother? I would feel awful but then again I feel like the kittens would survive and thrive with us. The kittens are weaned because they eat the dry good we leave out for the mother. PLEASE ANSWER ASAP THEY ARE SOON OLD ENOUGH TO LEAVE THE ENCLOSURE. :(

Answer
Feral born kittens are not like kittens born to friendly house cats. The sooner you can get them away from mom, the better your chances of socializing them. By the time they are past 6 weeks or so, it becomes much harder as they are learning mom's wild ways. What you need to do though is borrow a humane trap from your local shelter, and trap mom, so that she can be spayed. Other wise she is going to present you with another litter in another couple of months, and one cat will soon turn into 20, then 40 - and then what?

I just upgraded from a 1st generation to 3GS. I want to take my old iphone and use it as an educational device for my son - animal pictures, kid's songs, kid's games, etc. I'd even like to use it as a baby monitor if it will still function on wifi. My AT&T dealer said not to hook it up to itunes because it is deactivated. What does this mean? Is the phone still useful?

Answer
yes...when i used to work at best buy a kid stole a model iphone and it is able to be used as an ipod touch.

Do you think the Black and White monitor picture of a baby sonogram should change to full color?

For Example:

Is it time to update the newage pictures of a baby-human embryo?

Answer
They can't do that.

It's made up of sound waves bouncing from the baby. It's not a picture, it's a picture built up of sound waves.

I am looking to buy a video baby monitor through walmart. I am looking at the Graco iMonitor Baby Video Monitor, the Summer Infant 900 MHz 2.5" Color Handheld Video Monitor, and the MobiCam Ultra Wireless Color Video Monitor System. I have read reviews on all of them and have compared all of the features but still do not know which one would be best. Can anyone give me any input please? Thanks!!!!!!

Answer
Hi! Well since no one else answered your question I just thought to give some input from my experience. Perhaps you haven't yet had your baby? I was the very same way. I went out and planned every last product to put into my nursery: $200 bassinette, expensive travel system, breast pump set, sounds n lights baby monitor (fisher-price) etc. He won't sleep in the bassinette, the travel system is nice but the stroller that went with it is so big and bulky and so inconvenient and heavy to unload that I never us it. I used the breast pump only a few times because my milk didn't come in properly. The monitor is rarely used because I carry the baby with me everywhere in the house (in his carrier) but sometimes when I have the right batteries for it, I use it when I am outside visiting neighbors. I guess my point in saying all of this is that I think you should wait until the baby comes and you know for sure what will work for you and also you won't waste a lot of time and money on stuff that you regret and never use.

What is the best baby monitor available for sale?

I have seen articles and reports that T-Mobile will carry apple products in the new year (2013). When can I expect to see the iphone 5 on T-Mobiles network?

thanks

Answer
I let my friend (coworker) who owns an iPhone 5 use my Note 2 just to compare, and showed him how to use it.

I then asked him why people prefer iPhone 5 over the customization that Android gives. He had no answer to that (he did attempt to say that the iPhone was simpler to use, and I described that the it was true that even babies could use the iPhone, but the Android only takes a day to customize to ones wants and needs), just that he never knew Android had gotten so good. He then offered to trade me his iPhone 5 and a gaming screen he had previously used for his triple monitor setup. I stoutly declined.

This sounds like I'm just trying to spite you because even if the events that I have just tried to describe are false (and they are not), they are impolite.

So I won't educate you on the benefits of the Note 2, and Android as an OS, and why I'm not here to start a war, but merely to inform you that iPhone is definitely starting to fall off as a feature full phone every generation. Every generation, the iPhone is declining. I won't speak of it anymore, and just try answering your question without killing myself over how much a tech geek like me needs to tell you how much better Android is. All you have to do is research and use google anyway if you wanted to know, right?

So about iPhone on T-mobile. You probably won't be seeing the iPhone 5 likely appear in next month. After that, they will be very eager to get the iPhone 5 if they truly are considering offering the iPhone 5 (they already offer the Galaxy Note 2, though... OOPS what am I saying?!?!). So around 3-4 months? Yep very likely.

But don't buy a phone on a contract. You will end up paying more. Do you wonder why contracts lock you in and lower the price on phones? It's not really because they want you to stay (well yes they do), but that they gain a better profit anyway. They lock you into a plan that is very bad compared to prepaid plans so every month you will be shelling out tons more money for tons less service. Let's say you pay $90 every month for the same service you get at $49... There you go. 2 year contract = 12+12 = 24 x 40 = 960. You will be shelling out an extra $960 along with the small fee you payed with the phone when you signed your contract ($200 maybe?).

See, I'm just trying to educate you on what choice you should take: prepaid.

Prepaid? Look at Straight Talk, Solavei, T-mobile Prepaid (hidden because they like you using contracts), there are many great options. Check them out.

Which speakers should I get (Comparing two speakers) Experienced DJ's come here!?

Dennisz Pr

Hello fellow experienced DJ's and other audio geeks..

I'm a DJ, that has been DJing for several years..However, my gigs are usually in stages that have professional 30,000 watt systems built in, and no speakers are required..But I wanna start mobile DJing for parties, and weddings and such. My budget is some-what low for the beginning, but i'll be building up money to buy some quality gear!

I'm stuck in a conclusion right now, and I'm debating which speakers to get.
I'm getting them in set of (2) and you'll see my budget once you check these links out.

or
http://amzn.com/B001XWD3LC

Now, I'm a big car audio junky, and I know when it comes to the name 'pyle' the first thing that comes into my mind is 'Pyle of sh*t.'
BUT WAIT. These speakers have great reviews, and I heard a lot of good things about these!
But the question is, will they be loud enough for a party of under 100 people? Or maybe under 50 people?

Now, my second look is the Behringers! Yes, German bands! My favorite!
They're known for the best PA speakers ever made! But, are these actually gonna be loud enough? I feel like these are more for 'monitors' and etc. These also look a lot better, but the thing that matters is..is it loud enough?

Lastly, I know a lot of people are gonna mention a 'amplifier.' Well, I already own a 1,000 Watt RMS Amplifier, that can power these babies..and I also have a 12" Kenwood Subwoofer with 400 Watt RMs power rating, and 1,200 Watt Peak.

I'm looking for the best opinion on the speaker, or maybe link me another speaker that is $130 or less?

Thanks so much everyone!

Answer
Get the Pyle Pros as I said in my other answer. The Behringers are good speakers but they are not big enough for DJing. You will need a pretty big car or truck to carry the Pyle Pros.

$900 strollers
High tech camera baby monitors
jumpers/bouncers/activity tables
$2,000 in infant furniture
etc?

And do we really need all this stuff now? I just got an email from a baby store informing me how badly I need a $900 stroller

Any product you see on the market you just can't imagine needing?

Answer
Pffft, My parents got it ALL OVER your parents. They raised me with no microwave and only one TV. I got schoolhouse rock instead of baby mozart

P.S. You forgot a diaper genie

Is everyone doing lavish, high-tech nursery rooms now?

Michael3

Can you tell me if it's now the norm to design your baby room with a fancy mural, high-tech equipment, lavish design, etc. ... Is a normal baby room now out of fashion?

Answer
It's personal preference and, of course, financial availability, but keeping the baby's nursery a stimulating environment is recommended. Murals are a great way of adding interest for the baby, and there are lots to choose from as far as wall papers are concerned. Lots of muralists are available now, too. Of course, anything to make the parent's life easier (as far as "high tech" items) are always a great addition, such as monitors, cameras, etc.
