I am about to be a first time mom :-) and I've been looking at all the wonderful baby things but some things seem so outrageous (baby bath spa with bubble jets!). I would love to get all kinds of cool things but what do I really need for a first time baby. I so far have been given a crib which I know is necessary but would like opinions from other moms as to what I will absolutely need for my little monkey.

Answer
i'd go on some parenting websites and get some ideas because they actually list everything on them.
I remember buying clothes- (baby grows) - (various sizes as weights differ so newborn and 0-3 months)
newborn and 0-3 vests
mittens
socks
soft booties
bibs
hats
newborn nappies
cotton wool
sensitive baby wipes
nappy bags
bathtime essentials like baby bath sponge etc
babys bath (although the sink is an idea as a new mum i was more comfortable buying a baby bath from mothercare)
soother if you'll be bottle feeding
baby feeding bottles and formula milk if necessary
moses basket or crib and bedding comes seperately
pram that suits from birth
changing mat
car seat
car sun shade if babys due in summer months
baby monitor
night light or lamp (if you dont have one already in the bedroom)

Thats all i can think of! hope it helps!! :-)

Nearly 18 weeks pregnant thinking of buying Mothercare pre-natal heart listening system?

Tam

Instruction says that it can pick up heartbeat from about 21 weeks. But I am I wondering if anyone actually bought one and had success picking up heart beat?

My GP have been able to pick up my baby's heartbeat loud and clear from about 16 weeks already.

thanks!

Answer
NO i would waste my money on that one. I got a 3mhz Fetal Doppler on ebay for a little under $100. I have been able to monitor the babys heart beat from home since about 16 weeks. I def recommend it.

We have a Belkin N450 Router. We have at least 10 Devices connected and the Router can handle it, we want to buy a new one of upgrade it. We have a Computer, 2 Ipads, 3 Iphones/Ipod, Xbox, Kindle Fire. What would you recommend.

Answer
Upgrading the router will not improve your Internet connection.

How fast is your Internet connection?

You can measure your Internet speed here: http://speedtest.net

That being said,

A wireless router connects two separate networks and manages the traffic between them.

In most home network applications the router connects your local group of computers and devices known as the LAN with the Internet, commonly called the WAN or Wide Area Network.

For example, If you have a 5 Mbps Internet connection, the maximum shared Internet bandwidth available to all of the devices connected to the router will be 5 Mbps.

Any bandwidth others users or devices on your connection are using will be deducted from the total WAN (Internet) bandwidth that is available to you.

If you have a 5 Mbps Internet connection and one user is utilizing 4 Mbps of the bandwidth to stream a Netflix movie, that only leaves 1 Mbps for all of the rest of the users on the LAN.

In simple terms, the more users you have the more speed will be required. Streaming video, such as Netflix and Hulu require a lot of bandwidth. Here are the minimum recommendations from Netflix. https://support.netflix.com/en/node/306

Many people would be likely be surprised at how many active connections their wireless router has. I have dozens. cell phones, tablets, iPods, game consoles, laptops, desktops, ROKU boxes, Internet enabled devices such as TVs and audio receivers, and the list goes on.

Fast wireless routers and connections are designed to stream large files on your LAN quickly. The high speed routers permit fast transfer of files between devices connected to your LAN, however WAN speed is still limited by your ISP. The only way to Improve your Internet speed is to upgrade your plan or switch to a faster ISP.

If you still want to upgrade for other reasons other than Internet speed,

It pretty much comes down to what features you want and how much you want to spend.

As far as the brand goes, the brand is not as important as the model. Some manufacturers release a good model but the next is crap. I would look at the Amazon reviews of models that interest you. Even if you don't buy from Amazon the reviews will tell you a lot about which models to avoid. Look for at least 15 or more reviews with a 4 star or better rating. Read a few and see if they sound like the particular model will work for your application.

For under $50, this Medialink is the most popular and highly reviewed model. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A3YN0Z0/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00A3YN0Z0&linkCode=as2&tag=excharge-20

If you want to spend a little more, many routers support "Dual Band". http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&keywords=dual%20band%20router&linkCode=ur2&qid=1374595143&rh=n%3A172282%2Cn%3A541966%2Cn%3A300189%2Ck%3Adual%20band%20router%2Cp_72%3A1248879011&rnid=1248877011&tag=excharge-20

Dual band routers have multiple wireless radios enabling broadcast on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands simultaneously. Using the 5 GHz band cuts down on interference from cordless phones and microwave ovens.. Not all devices can use the 5 GHz frequency. Many laptops and other devices only operate at 2.4 GHz. Thus the need for dual band routers.

In any case,

You should try to centrally locate your wireless router or gateway up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

Wireless signals, including 2.4 and 5 GHz, are affected by many factors including distance, wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc.

All of these factors will affect your actual wireless range. As wireless connection quality varies the connection speeds are renegotiated. The WLAN connection may start at 150 Mbps and end up at less than 10 Mbps or drop entirely.

Your best bet is always a direct Ethernet connection to the router, especially for fixed devices that don't need mobility. Ethernet is unaffected by wireless interference and will give you a rock solid, stable network connection.

Good Luck...

Is there anyway to boost my reception in my basement?

rynearson9

I get decent signal on the main floor and when i go in the basement my signal sucks. I have Verizon

Answer
Well here is some information that tells you what interferes with wireless signal:

Sources of interference for wireless devices and networks

The farther away the interference source, the less likely it is to cause an issue. The following items can cause interference with wireless communication:

* Microwave ovens: Placing your computer, Bluetooth wireless device, or AirPort base station near a microwave oven that is in use may cause interference.
* Direct Satellite Service (DSS) RF leakage: The coax cable that comes with certain types of satellite dishes may cause interference. Obtain newer cables if you suspect RF leakage.
* Certain electrical devices such as power lines, electrical railroad tracks, and power stations.
* 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz phones: A cordless telephone that operates in this range may cause interference with wireless devices or networks when used.
* Metal objects: If possible, move metal objects or change the placement of the computer, wireless device or wireless access point so the path between your computer and the wireless device or wireless access point is free from metal objects that may cause interference.
* Video senders (transmitters/receivers) that operate in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bandwidth.
* Wireless speakers that operate in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bandwidth.
* Certain external monitors and LCD displays: Certain displays may emit harmonic interference, especially in the 2.4GHz bandwidth between channels 11 and 14. This interference may be at its worst if you have a portable computer with the lid closed and an external monitor connected to it. Try changing your access point to use 5 Ghz or a lower 2.4 GHz channel.
* Any other "wireless" devices that operate in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bandwidth (microwaves, cameras, baby monitors, and so on).

Note: Some devices may not overtly state that they operate in the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz bandwidth. The operations manual should indicate the frequencies the device uses to operate. These may be referred to as "Dual Band" or "Wireless" devices.

Effect of home and office elements on wireless communication
Where you are located and what materials you are surrounded by can affect your wireless networking performance or Bluetooth wireless device. The table below shows common elements and their potential for interference.
Type of Barrier Interference Potential
Wood Low Interference
Plaster Low Interference
Synthetic material Low Interference
Glass Low Interference
Water Medium Interference
Bricks Medium Interference
Marble Medium Interference
Paper rolls High Interference
Concrete High Interference
Bulletproof glass High Interference
Metal Very high Interference

I would say your problem is Concrete because of the bricks, which are almost the hardest next to metal and bulletproof glass... But if you can get a wireless access point and get it at the entrance of the basement, it will take the signal from your router and extend it into your basement. You can take these WAPoints and move them around to see where you get the best signal in your basement with where the access point extends the signal too. I hope this helps. Also some of the other items listed above can cause inteference but I would suspect the concrete and start there. There not too expensive and you can have more than one.

Anyone have labor induced because of the size of the baby?

best baby monitor guide image

BabyGlennI

The doctor says it is possible that my baby is too big and he would consider inducing me. I am 38 weeks pregnant and I have an ultrasound tomorrow to check on his size. I do not have any medical conditions, he just has always measured further along. My question is, has anyone ever had an induction due to the size of the baby? And if so, how big was the baby? Thanks in advance!

Answer
Don't let anyone who hasn't experienced an induction scare you. I've had two successful inductions and I have two happy, healthy, intelligent little girls who are advanced for their age. Induction doesn't mean that harm will come to you or baby, the technology for monitoring the contractions is really sophisticated and baby's heart rate will also be continuously monitored as well. There is relatively little risk of fatality if the induction is performed for a good reason and under the supervision of an experienced OB/GYN. Sometimes induction saves the mother's life as in my case. I was diagnosed with preeclampsia with an extremely high spike in blood pressure, and protein in my urine. I could have had a heart attack or stroke from this pregnancy induced disease. Delivering baby in a timely way saved both our lives as this is the only cure for this life-threatening condition.

In my family the women tend to give birth to large babies (ie. 10-11 lbs) and we have relatively small frames. There are several of my siblings and cousins who had birth injuries because of their large size and drawn out complicated births. It is better to induce early if the Dr. thinks that there is a chance for macrosomia (big baby). In this case a child can be born with a brain bleed, like my sister did and she is mentally retarded and partially deaf. It was a birth injury. My cousin has learning disabilities as he was also birth injured. His long labor resulted in a forceps delivery and a broken collar bone in addition to head injuries because the babies in our family are heavy AND have big heads. Let your Dr's expertise be your guide. Better not to gamble with going to term if it looks like your baby is over 9 lbs. Some may disagree with me but I know two family members who were carried to term and wound up being 10 lb.+ babies and the mothers suffered long painful deliveries, episiotomies or 4th degree tears and had babies who grew up with major disabilities. I know from personal experience. Don't gamble with your baby's life. If the Dr. says "induce" then listen. It could make the difference in having a healthy child. They advise this for a reason.

I also have been diagnosed with a large baby and we may induce early. I'll be monitored with ultrasounds until my delivery to check for cephalopelvic disporportion and a large baby. If it goes over 9 lbs, I'm scheduling a C-section. Its worth the extra pain not to have a mentally handicapped child.

what is the probability of twins in the same sac being born healthy?

petrina

My doctor is really freaking me out about the fact that my twins are in the same sac and sharing the same placenta. I am 18 weeks now and he is telling me they have a 50% chance of making it if I let the pregnancy go pass 32 weeks. Now I am terrified of the umbilical cord rapping around there necks. Anybody have and experience this and have healthy babies?

Answer
Your are having "MoMo" babies (monochorionic, monoamniotic or one sac and one placenta)

Fortunately, modern technology allows doctors to observe babies in the womb, and monitor the situation. High resolution ultrasounds, doppler imaging and non-stress tests help to assess symptoms and identify potential cord problems. Cord entanglement and compression are generally a slow process, so parents and medical caregivers have time to make decisions. Some situations will require such close monitoring that the expectant mother must remain hospitalized.

There is no approved treatment or procedure to fix the situation. The only resolution is delivery of the babies. Virtually all MoMo babies are born prematurely. Doctors have to balance the risks of the babies' condition in the womb versus the consequences of prematurity. If cord compression occurs early in the pregnancy, the babies may not be able to survive. Some doctors elect to schedule delivery of MoMo babies at 32, 34 or 36 weeks, believing that the womb environment is simply too dangerous past that point in time. Sometimes steroids may be administered to boost the babies' lung development and improve their chances of surviving outside the womb.

A cesarean section is mandated for MoMo babies to avoid cord prolapse, a situation that occurs when the second babies cord is expelled as the first baby is delivered.

multiples.about.com

You are having a very rare type of twins as I'm sure you are already aware. Hang in there and let your doctor guide you through. You should have a lot more ultrasounds than normal to keep an eye on the cords and you should be seeing a high risk doctor and not just your regular ob. I am not in your shoes but I feel for you and I hope it all works out. Best of luck to you and your babies.

Are there any dual camera baby monitors?

We use a simple wireless video monitor to keep tabs on my 2 year old son while he's napping and sleeping. Eventually he'll have a little bro or sis that we'll also want to keep tabs on. Are there any baby monitors that incorporate two cameras viewable on one remote monitor?

Answer
The one from Summer does. You can put one video on A and the other on B. Then on the monitor you can switch from viewing A or B. I figured this out when my SIL came for a visit and brought her video monitor. We had my daughter on video A and her son on B.

Question for people that know anything about electronics or batteries?

theArcticW

I have a baby monitor system and the camera plugs into the wall. I want to hook it up to batteries so that it is wireless. The input of the a/c adapter for the camera is 120VAC and the output is 12VDC. Would it work if i cut the 2 wires going to the black a/c adapter box thing, put one wire on the end of 8 connected AA batteries and the other wire on the other end of the 8 connected AA batteries?

Answer
yes you can... but.....

You need to know how much current the camera uses, this will tell you if you can use AA batteries of if you need D batteries.

The wall wart has a positive and a negative. You can cut the wire away from the wall wart and connect it to a battery box.

You can buy the battery box from:

How to make a red eared slider happy?

best baby monitor for multiple kids
on Video Baby Monitor Buying Guide 2013 | Best Baby Products
best baby monitor for multiple kids image

Daniel S

I finally know what kind of turtle i have and its a red eared slider the only question i have is how do i make it happy?

Answer
You can make it happy by taking good care of it. here are some tips: Aquatic and semi-aquatic turtles are popular as pets. The most well known is probably the red eared slider, although there are several other species which are kept as pets.
Turtles have been popular for a long time. Baby red eared sliders were readily available and inexpensive many years ago, which unfortunately resulted in a lot of neglected turtles. They were often sent home with tiny plastic bowls with a little plastic tree (unfortunately these are still sold with turtles in some places). With no filtration system and no room to grow, these little babies didn't have much chance. In the 1970s, the US government banned the sale of turtles less than 4 inches long, once the connection was made between turtles and Salmonella infections, especially in children. It is not that baby turtles carry more Salmonella than larger ones; it is more of a case of children being more likely to handle the smaller turtles (and/or put them in their mouths!).

Sadly, many turtles are still sold to people who have little idea how much care turtles require, including large tanks, special lighting, good filtration and lots of cleaning. Even worse, they are sometimes given out as prizes at fairs and at other events. All too often aquatic turtles die due to stress and neglect - and sometimes they suffer so much stress, overcrowding and neglect during transport and in shops (and fairs) that even if a new owner provides ideal care the turtles may be so ill they die anyway.

Turtles and Children
Turtles are not ideal pets for children. They are not easy to care for, not great for handling, and in addition they often do harbor Salmonella bacteria which can be passed to the children who don't understand the need for careful hygiene. Many children do not have the interest or ability to provide the amount of care and cleaning that a turtle rightfully requires, so parents must realize the responsibility for care ultimately falls to them if the kids lose interest.

Size and Life Span
Many people also do not realize how big aquatic turtles can get. Red eared sliders and a couple of the other commonly available pet species will grow to at least 10-12 inches long and thus will require correspondingly large enclosures. All turtles have the potential to enjoy a very long life span (i.e. several decades!) if cared for properly.

Housing
Aquatic turtles require fairly elaborate housing. They need regular exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, so pricey bulbs designed for reptiles that produce UVA and UVB light are needed for turtle tanks. Without this light, metabolic bone disease (soft shell syndrome) can result. Turtles are messy, and a good filtration unit will be necessary to help maintain water quality, as will regular cleaning. They should have deep enough water to allow swimming, along with a place to get out of the water to bask (heated from above with a basking light.) In addition, appropriate water and ambient temperatures should be maintained.

Feeding
Although turtle foods have come a long way they are not recommended as a sole source of food for aquatic turtles. Most are omnivores (and preferences for different foods might change at different points in the life cycle), and offering a good variety of foods is the best way to feed most turtles. As a rule, feeding turtles in a separate plastic tub will allow the mess associated with feeding to be contained (turtles are messy eaters, and this will reduce the need for tank cleaning a bit) and allow monitoring of food intake of each turtle if multiple turtles are kept.

But for the Right Owner...
Having said all that, given the right person and the right commitment turtles make beautiful, fascinating, and enjoyable pets. The first step is to research the species available and the care required by each. While the basics of aquatic turtle care are similar for all species, potential owners need to consult specific care sheets for details on housing, environment and feeding for the species in which they are interested.

For beginners, the hardier turtles are recommended, such as red eared sliders, cooters, and mud and musk turtles, keeping in mind that sliders and cooters will reach a mature length of greater than 12 inches, while mud and musk turtles are about half that size. Map and painted turtles, as well as some of the less common species are a bit less hardy. Softshell and snapping turtles have a reputation for being large, aggressive, and generally more difficult to care for so are not good for beginners.

Beyond providing a proper environment and diet for aquatic turtles, they do not need a lot of attention, although regular interaction may result in a tame and sociable turtle. In any case, they are lovely and if properly cared for should provide years of enjoyment.

what do i need to take care of a Red Ear Slider turtle ?

Rooster.

tank size
what they eat
heating and lighting
basic requirments : eg. hides and stuff like that.
fish that can go in with them.
food suppliments or w.e they called : eg. calcium dust
the list goes on... so, basically all i need to know to keep one or two.
is it better to have one or more ?

I'm about to go on a road trip with three year old and can't find the charger for his portable DVD player. I found a couple of different chargers that do fit in the device (I haven't tried them plugged in) for example the Swiffer sweeper-vac and his baby monitors. I don't know much about electronics and I don't know if it will ruin it being charged by a charger that isn't FOR it?

Is there anything I can do?

Answer
You need to find one the voltage, current, and polarity/plug of the original.

They are usually 9 to 12V, and 750mA to 2A, positive center.

Is it okay to let my baby sleep in her bouncy seat?

Ninja Kitt

She is 15 weeks old. I have been letting her. I like it because it is portable, she can be with me wherever I am. I'm not ready to walk away from her even with a baby monitor. Is it safe? I also let her sleep in her infant swing, it doesn't sit upright. And what about the infant pillows? Are those okay? there is one attached to the swing and the bouncy chair.

Answer
I definitely would not. I was doing this with my DD and my pedi said that it was definitely not a good idea. We use the Nap Nanny for this reason- because it doesn't let her sleep flat it puts her at the perfect angle and she sleeps even better than she ever did in the swing because the Nap Nanny is actually designed for long term sleeping and for holding the baby in a safe position.

what's the best of the best babyphone / baby intercom / baby monitor thingy ? I've heard that I need to buy something with DECT and that there are also systems that monitor the baby's breathing etc... what's the top of the line system ?

Answer
I was also looking for a good baby monitor, and my husband and I wanted a combined video/audio one.

After much researching around and reading lots of reviews, we're going to get the:
Swann SW233-WDM VBM-330 Digital Video Baby Monitor
It costs about AUD$260.

These were our criteria for selection:
Audio - good microphone
Color video and reasonable screen size
No interference or use of multiple channels
Night vision (at least a few meters)
Thermometer a plus
Multiroom monitoring if possible
Portable receivers
Transmitter - non-battery powered
Motion sensor for stop of movement
Underwriters Labs mark for safety
Intercom
No LED flahes on camera
No Auto-mute

The Swann model does not necessarily fulfil all the criteria, but the most important ones it does fulfill, and it fulfills the most of our criteria.

Hope that helps! P.S. Swann is very good in surveillance technology.

we have the baby monitors on. If he cries tonight should I go in and calm him or let him cry? The doctor says he needs to calm himself and doesn't need to be fed at night. Should I though? Doctors are all about the "cry it out method". I cried it out just putting him into bed and hearing his scared cry tonight even with the night light on. With the fear of sids on my mind I don't know if I'll be able to sleep.

Answer
I have four kids. My first two I let 'cry a few minutes' and ALWAYS ended up in their rooms multiple times a night. And it lasted until they were both around two. Babies aren't stupid. Sure they don't know when three or five minutes have passed, but they do know 'if I cry, mom comes'

Well my third child started on solids, same pedi tells me its time to get her sleeping all night, he said DO NOT GIVE IN! He said let her cry and I PROMISE after two nights... DONE. Well she cried a lot the first night, it was tough, very tough. The second night, she slept all night. I realize not all babies will adjust after just one night. I sure wished I had listened with my first two kids. I guarantee the chances of your baby sleeping thru the night are next to zero if you keep going in when they cry.

Also, I'm not sure I would even use a blanket if it were a good temp and baby has pajamas on. And nothing big enough or thick enough to restrict breathing. The whole sleeping thing is very controversial, and SOME say its more dangerous for baby to be in bed with parents. But I had mine in my bed sometimes. Baby #4 is in my bed now.

If you are doing this don't give in, you can sneak a peak at baby, check on baby while he/she is asleep. But don't give in! I am proof of what works and what doesn't. And even tho its heartbreaking listening to baby cry, I PROMISE you will be forgiven and greeted with a smile when you come in in the morning.

Good luck

Why am i not getting pregnant, since i had fibroid operation,in august,2008.I started clomid 3 days ago?

I want to have my own kids,i don't mint multiple kids,am really getting frustrated in my own case,i started taking two tablets a day on the 27th of feb,2010,Please i want to know how long will i continue to take it for, thanks

Answer
Clomid is very good in assisting pregnancy for couples who are having a hard time trying to conceive. I personally took it for two months (neither of which was successful) then my doctor decided to do a HSG, and I got pregnant right away, without the clomid!!

You doctor will monitor you whilst you are taking it, just because prolonged use of the drug can increase your chances of ovarian cancer. So if nothing has happened by a couple of months (i would say 6 to 12months) then your doctor would probably recommend IVF or other types of assisted reproduction.

Im sure everything will work out in the end and you will get the baby you have waited for :)

I'm looking at this book "Baby Bargains" (a must-buy!!!). They have a section that tells you which monitors they think are best. Here's what they say, broken down in good, better, and best:

GOOD: Fisher Price Sounds 'N Lights (starts at $20), no fancy features but a really good starting point
BETTER: Graco's imonitor ($55 single, $90 dual receivers), has digital technology, rechargeable batteries, and 2000 foot range.
BEST: Sony BabyCall NTM-910 is the top rated and starts at $40. Does a lot of fancy stuff, which you might like or not.

My advice is to go online and read customer reviews as well. I got Summer's video monitor for my shower, but this book doesn't happen to endorse these kind because of too many parent complaints.

"What are the best"..... Experienced mom's only! :)?

Answer
Well I'm a young mother of four all under the age of five my youngest is 8 months old. I know what you mean about things costing a lot of money so here is my opion, but in the end its up to you.
Huggies are great but cost way to much
Luvs are way to much and they dont hold well
Pampers they say are great but I have found out that they suck, they dont hold up at all
So, I use White Clouds they are about $15 for a box of 100 or more and this is if you buy them at walmart. Also they hold up very well no leaks no messes and no wet beds or clothes which always makes you happy when u have less laundry to do. Plus they are good for babies who have sensitive skin as well.
Now baby monitors moms alway need these nice to have. I have used the same one with all four of my kids and its still working great. The price is worht it as well specially if you want more kids. You can get it at walmart
Fisher-Price 900 MHz Digital Private Connection Monitor with Dual Receivers
A new design and feature set makes this 900 MHz. Now you can also buy the single and not the dual works just as well.
Now your really dont need a wipe warmer the wipes arent that cold and there really not something needed but if you want one go to walmart and they have two kinds that are not that pricey.
Prince Lionheart Ultimate Wipes Warmer
Keeps wipes warm and moist, non-browning, anti-microbial
or
DEX On the Go Travel Wipes Warmer
Warm wipes for baby, anywhere at anytime. The 1st one is 19 or so dollars and the 2nd is 16 dollars
I hope this helped you out and congrats

Can you recommend a baby monitor (preferably a video monitor) that works from very long distances?

We just moved into a new house where our master bedroom is completely on the opposite side of the house from our son's room. The moniter that we have now works only sporadically (most of the time it flashes "out of range"). I really need one that will work well! It probably doesn't help that our bedroom is converted from the old garage, so there are literally 2 brick walls between our room and our son's room. Please help! Thank you!

Answer
I have a Mobi and it works great in my house. My house isn't huge but I can be upstairs and my daughter's room is downstairs on the other side of the house and it is clear. During the day the pic is in color, but turns to black and white at night. The only static has been when we have it too close to our remote controls and cell phones. It will get fuzzy but we move the items and it is fine.

Not sure if it will work between brick walls, but I have been out in our garage on my treadmill and had no problem.

I have a raccoon and 6-8 tiny babies in my tenants attic more?

Q. I know I have to get a trap and cover the entrance. My concern is relocating the mama and babies safely. They are very tiny newborns but my tenant wants them out NOW.
I can bring them to my house near woods but how will the mama find a new nest?
The last 2 answers are both good, thanks so much. I'll let the voters decide.
Oh and BTW, where I live the wildlife rehab center can no longer take raccoons.
So I asked the tenant if I could put a light and radio up there and hope mama relocates them herself.

Answer
There is a humane way to deal with this.

1. The mother raccoon will be in the nest all day, sleeping and nursing. Now is the time to search for and locate all possible entrances and exits from the attic space. Gather all the things you might need to completely seal those entrances. Create a nesting box: a safe box, animal carrier, something with a soft blanket, a heat lamp or heated pad under the cage/box for the babies when you move them. (if the weather is cold, if not, just enough blankets for them to snuggle in may be enough)
2. The mother will go out in the evening to forage. Now you can gather the babies and put them in the newly acquired nesting box. If they do not have their eyes open, they will also not be able to hear, and they will give you no trouble when picking them up. Leave this box, and the babies inside and right by the entrance that you have sealed. The mother will come and take the babies to a new nesting site. Monitor this box, if the mother has not returned to retrieve the babies within 24 hours, please take them all to a wild animal rehabilitation center, where they can be raised and released.

Raccoons are highly intelligent and opportunistic. They often have several safe places of rest, not just your attic. Do not tangle with an adult, they are very fierce and protective of the young. Try to remain a reasonable distance away from the babies, so that she will feel safe coming to get them.

There are some companies that will do this for you, although I hear horrible stories of their inhumane practises IE: kill the mother, and let the babies starve. It will likely be expensive as well, since they will have to monitor the nesting box, and deal with the young if mother should not return for whatever reason.

It is illegal to re-locate a raccoon, you risk moving them into a territory that is already inhabited by a raccoon family. This will cause the death of both the mother and the young.

Raccoons get a bad rap in my view. They are misunderstood, considered pests. How is it a raccoon's fault that humans are unable to control their own garbage? Please treat them with respect and consideration. They are deserving of a little compassion.

EDIT: Please wear gloves, raccoons can carry some nasty diseases, easily passed to humans and domestic pets. Usually through feces, so wash, with bleach all items that have come in contact with the nest and babies.

Samsomsims

Automatic or manual (that comes with a stethoscope), that isn't ridiculous expensive, like less than $100? I have a 5mo old with very high blood pressure. I've looked everywhere :(

Answer
Wal-Mart has one that is wrist size. It is adjustable and might work. I have one and it is very accurate. It is an Omron 962 and is on the pharmacy aisle, about $63 including tax. You can buy a stethoscope at some pharmacies, don't think Wal-Mart has those, but some pharmacies have them for about $30.

If your baby has very high BP, you should take him to the ER and let the people in the hospital get his BP under control. You don't want him to have a stroke or heart attack.

Don't buy any other model even though they might be cheaper, they are not reliable. I have had 2 other models and they gave crazy readings, not reliable. If you decide to try it, be sure you only get the Omron 962. I have found it to be accuate. I also have an Omron that I use on my upper arm and have checked it with the one my doctor uses and it is accurate. My wrist Omron also gives the same readings.

Why were Gerry and Kate McCann never prosecuted for leaving their children unattended?

BARRY N

Under the Portuguese Penal (Criminal) Code it carries a maximum prison term of 10 years.

Answer
because the restaurant they were in was 100 feet from the apartment, they left a baby monitor, and they went back to check on the children every 10 minutes, they had a nanny check in regularly in between the times they werent checking in, it was a very safe part of town, and the children were sound asleep. it was no different then someone leaving their baby in one room with a baby monitor and doing something in the yard, they took every precaution and thought the children were completely safe. they already lost their child, that is far more then enough punishment. can any parent in the world really say they have never made a mistake? i really dont think so so how can you judge these people you dont know because they made one mistake and something horrible happened, they lost their daughter, throwing them in prison wouldnt help anyone.

Can anyone suggest a good room monitor for my senior dad?

Mary B

I am now at home caring for my 80-something parents. I have a small garage apartment at one end of the house, my dad's bedroom is at the other (about 100 feet from the apartment's bedroom). Is there a baby monitor that has a strong enough signal to reach 100 feet? My dad is at the point that he sometimes forgets to put his oxygen on and has fallen some in the last 6 months. I would feel better if I could "keep an eye on him", so to speak. Can anyone offer any suggestions on this?

Answer
first of all you need to get with some support group, and learn that you can't be there every second of every day to be there for your parents, and therefore you take things as they occur. While I remember a home had a baby monitor (audio) where I did HHA work, I'm wondering if one of those things you hang around your neck and press the button when you need help wouldn't be a better thing. While younger people would use cell phones and keep them on their person I don't know an elder person would remember which button to push. There is something in our area that allows you to watch every room in your house from your cellphone, and even if you are at the office you can talk with someone who is buzzing at your home's front door. My first instinct would be something like this would be better. There's always skype too but the computer would have to be on all day and only in one room. Talk with a knowledgeable electronics tech in an electronics store and ask a lot of questions about what's available.

How bad is it to not sterilize bottles or water for infant formula?

Susan S

I have a 9 week old daughter who I breastfeed but supplement with formula 1 oz to 3 oz daily. I JUST READ at BabyCenter.com that the water is supposed to be boiled first when making powdered formula but we've NEVER done this. We use filtered tap water. I also never boiled her bottles in water before first use -- only washed them in hot soapy water. My daughter has been healthy. But what have I put her at risk for?

I can't believe this would be so important that no one told me I had to do this. Is sterilizing water that important or just another suggestion out there?

We have community water ... a well that feeds the community and is monitored by a private company. We use a filter on our tap too.
I am waiting for a call back from my pediatrician...
I supplement due to a low milk supply. Yes, I pump, using a Medela Doubl Electric Pump. I also take Fenugreek and Blessed Thistle. Please just answer the question.

Answer
No you haven't put her at risk. My baby's doctor told me that giving her regular water from the tap helps build up immunities. I was using nursery water for the first few months and still do here and there. I didn't boil my bottles either just washed them in hot water as well. So far she seems to be doing fine no problems. I think its just a suggestion to sterilize things. I had a friend who sterilized everything that had to do with her baby for the first year. That baby is now allergic to everything and is always sick.. If your really worried about using tap water just buy Nursery water with added Fluoride. Hope this helps

When should a baby start sleeping alone in a bedroom of his own?

Greek_Warr

Answer
My son is 7 months old and some time for naps he sleeps in his room in is crib but at night......he is in our bedroom in his playpen. I have read on my favorite childcare website Baby Center [ www.babycenter.com ] that doctors say that baby's can sleep in there own room as of the first night home from the hospital. Also, that after 6 months you do not need to use a baby monitor. That is what the experts say but..........

I have tried putting him in his own room at night and I freak out. Mind you I am very deep sleeper, my husband usually has to wake me up for the baby. So I am paranoid. My husband on the other hand has no problem with letting him sleep in his room as long as the monitir is on. SO pretty much there is a difference of opionion.

This is what I think, has your child had any problems sleeping? has your child given you any reason to give you cause for alarm? If No, then the answers is when YOU are ready. You need to be able to get a full nights rest [or you know the best amount you can get] without worrying about your little one.
If yes, wait until those problems resolve themselves first.

But, a litte unsolicitated parental advice that I am just learning......The longer you wait the worse it is going to be. Not just for you but also for your little ones. Babies are learning so much everyday at night they want to sleep where they are comfortable and change leads to long hours of crying, sometimes.

Just be prepared for whatever you chose to do. Look at the website if you get frustrated, they have hundreds of articles when it comes to children and babies sleeping, eating, dressing, walking, teething, gas problems, etc. and where and how on those things.
Good luck.

it's ok if i connect it with cabel, but the wifi has a problem.. i called the operator but she said everything is alright.. so i changed the modem, but it still won't work.. so i hired a technician to handle the settings.. it went well at first, but the problem came back.. even my technician is confused.. even the troubleshooter won't work.. what's going on? are there external wave frequencies disturbing my wifi?

Answer
There are several things that can affect wifi signal and things you can do to try and improve things

To start with the basic rule is to position the router as high and as centrally as possible in your house.

1] Try changing the broadcast channel from the wireless setup interface for your router/modem.You can normally access this by typing "http://192.168.0.1/" into your browsers search bar and then look for the wireless settings menu.
You don't say if your router can use the 5GHz frequency or just the 2.4GHz. The best channels in the 2.5GHz spectrum are 1,6, 11, or 13 as they have less overlap with the other channels.

There is a useful article here about how to get the best performance by selecting the best channel.: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/21132/cha…

If you have an android smarthphone, or a friend does, then install the Wifi Analyzer app free from android market and use it to scan for the best channel and change your routers broadcast channel accordingly. This app will aslo show you all the wifi signals in range that your neighbours are using, so you can select a different channel to them, making a stronger signal for you. https://market.android.com/details?id=co…

2] You can use a tool like Nirsofts totally free WirelessNet View to look at all the local wireless signals that are within range and may be competing with your own router and interfering with reception. from here: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wireless_ne…

3] You can buy a Wi-Fi booster like D-Link 645 Smartbeam, here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/D-Link-DIR-645-W…
Devices such as these can actually boost the wifi signal by using multiple beams that bounce of the walls and are intelligently directed toward whatever device [smarhphone, laptop, tablet] you are using on wifi.

4] If your using the 2.4GHz frequency and not the 5GHz then other devices that use this frequency band can alsso interfere with your reception [eg baby monitors and microwave ovens use 2.4GHz]. Try and make sure that none of these devices are situated between your router and your wifi receiver eg laptop, tablet, smarthphone etc

ideas for the iphone, opinions?

hi what do you think of these 2 ideas for apps on the iphone. one is a thing where it monitors a baby crying and then you input what that cry was about. for instance, your baby is crying one day and you figure out he wants food. you record the cry and say that is a food cry. then in the future you just show your iphone near a baby crying and it will tell you what they are crying for by measuring his or hers pitch and tone. another one is a shock thing, like in the arcade. you hold the iphone and get shock waves through your hand for however long, and send your high scores online and the person who gets the longest time holding it gets a prize or something. what do you think? also do you have any cool app ideas?

Answer
Awesome, in-fact I can also record sounds on my Nokia, or Motorola, or Samsung, or Sony Ericsson and also make them vibrate.
Wow I think I got a cool phone! Not?

What happens during the weeks 25-36 of pregnancy?

best baby monitor for multiple rooms image
Q. I am in my science class right now and we are studying pregnancy. I need to know what happens during weeks 25-36. Please provide details and pictures will also be helpful! Thank you very much.

Answer
week #25

At this point in pregnancy you probably still feel really good! Soon you will begin to see your practitioner more often. When this happens, many women begin to get the feeling that they are "running out of time."

Fixing the baby's room or deciding where to let the baby sleep is one of the thing you need to work out your feelings about now. Although, let me tell you from experience that you should reserve the right to change your mind once the baby gets here!

Many people spend the first few months with the baby either in their bed or next to their bed in a cradle or bassinet. This allows for easy access to night feedings and changings, and many parents report feeling more secure about their baby. Other parents have a nursery and use a monitor to allow their baby to waken them for night feedings, etc. Some parents feel that they need more privacy or believe that the baby should learn to sleep alone from the beginning.

Look at all of your options before making up your mind. And again, be flexible. You may find life with baby very different from what you had imagined. The choice is yours and it is personal, so don't let others make you feel guilty for your choices.
Baby:

Baby weighs 1 pound 9 ounces (709 grams). The bones are continuing their ossification process, meaning that they are becoming harder.

WEEK #27
Welcome to the third trimester. The home stretch! Around this time you will begin to really put on the weight, this will last until about week thirty-six. Although some cultures dictate otherwise, weight gained during pregnancy is not fat or unhealthy, but rather, necessary for a healthy pregnancy and baby.

The weight that you gain will be distributed in several places. In the beginning of pregnancy you may have noticed that your breasts got larger. The average breast before pregnancy weighs about 7 ounces and during pregnancy each breast can weigh up to an average of 28 ounces! Some of the weight will go to body fluids (amniotic fluid, blood volume, etc.). Remember that your blood volume increase by 30-50% during pregnancy. And let's not forget the baby and the placenta! Add this to a few measly pounds put on as maternal fat stores, and you average about 25-30 pounds.

The most important thing to remember is that a healthy diet is more important than what you gain. Some women will gain more, as in the case of women who were underweight to begin with, and those carrying multiple babies. While others will gain less. Pregnancy is not the time to go on a reducing diet. Even if you are overweight, reducing can actually harm the baby by burning your maternal fat stores sometimes toxins can be released that are harmful to the baby.
Baby:

Your baby's skin is very wrinkled from floating in water. This will stay this way until a few weeks after birth as your newborn fills out into a baby. Although take heart in the fact that your baby's looks are assuming the looks that they will have at birth! Baby has also hit the 2 pound mark (900 grams).

WEEK 29
Your baby is busy getting ready for the birthday! The baby is beginning to regulate his own temperature and the bone marrow is completely in charge of production of the red blood cells. The baby is even urinating about a half liter of urine into the amniotic fluid everyday!

The movements that you feel will probably begin to change at this point. You once were the home of wild gymnastic parties, now as the space becomes cramped you will notice smaller movements, such as elbows and knees. Try monitoring the baby yourself, using fetal kick counts.

Your baby weighs in at about two pounds nine ounces (1.16 kilograms)!

WEEK #31
Your abdomen swells and your rib cage and pelvis may be sore as the baby gets bigger and fills up all the space you have available. While it is really great that your baby is gaining weight and growing strong, you may be in line for different discomforts at this stage of the game.

Some women will have more heartburn as the uterus displaces the internal organs, leaving less room for her stomach and its contents. This can be relieved by remaining upright after a meal. Some women say that eating smaller, more frequent meals helps their heartburn. Remember to ask your practitioner before using any medications, even over the counter products.

One of the most frequent complaints in pregnancy is back pain. This can start at almost any point of pregnancy and can continue well into the first postpartum year. Some of this can be relieved by maintaining good posture, exercise, and stretching. And don't forget to ask your partner for a back rub!

The pregnant body produces a hormone called relaxin. This is what loosens the pelvis making it mobile to help your baby be born. However, this can also cause waddling! I also refer to this as "feeling like a Barbie with her legs pulled off." This is only temporary, and while it may be a pain now, come birth time you'll be rather grateful!

A few women will breeze by even this phase of pregnancy without any discomforts. This does not mean that your body isn't preparing for birth. It could be pain tolerance levels, exercise and agility levels and many other factors. So, count your blessings if you fall into this category!
Baby:

You may worry that if you are breathless from walking or sometimes even just sitting that your baby is in danger. This is not true. Your baby is getting plenty of oxygen from your placenta.

The baby's irises can now dilate and contract in response to light. Due to the deposits of white fat underneath the skin the baby's skin is no longer red but pink, and your baby weighs about three pounds and five ounces (1.5 kilograms). The finger nails may reach the end of the hands.

WEEK 36
You will probably start to see your practitioner every week until you give birth.

Most babies will be in a head down position at this point. However, about 4% of the babies will be breech. Do not panic! There are plenty of things that you can do to encourage the baby to turn, including special exercises. If the exercises do not work, your practitioner may want to attempt an external cephalic version (ECV). The ECV is a manual turning of the baby.

Baby:

The baby continues to grow and snuggle down into your pelvis. The benefit of this is that you can breathe more easily, however, you also have to urinate more often. Your practitioner will probably not stop your labor if you were to start having regular contractions now.

Baby weighs about five pounds two ounces (2.3 kilograms) and measures 45 cms or 17.8 inches. Although here at the end there is a larger margin of difference among babies. Ask your practitioner to palpate (feel through your abdomen) to guesstimate the weight. Remember it is just a guess, although some are better than others.

How to make a red eared slider happy?

In any case, they are lovely and if properly cared for should provide years of enjoyment.

best baby monitor battery life image

lil_moma_i

I want to be prepared for when my little one arrives. So i was wondering like, types of medicine, um just basic newborn baby needs.
i got the common Sense stuff like clothes, diapers, bottles, pacies, etc.

Answer
well, u can go to babies r us website and they have a list for ppl who are going to register..of course it has a lot of things on there that you don't need, but if you weed through you can get what you need out of it...the things i liked;found most useful, etc......

.i would def recommend:
a diaper genie 2; idk why ppl don't like them, there is NO smell in my dd 's room
changing table..will save your back, good for diap changes, clothes changes, sponge baths, etc and you have shelves to store your new baby must haves....i have canvas bins on the shelves to store things that are good to have in reach or easily available...
monitor--i like the graco imonitor, recently bought a second one for another room in the house bc i liked the other one so much, it has been working well for over 8 mos now, and it has good range, battery life, and i can hear EVERYTHING; never any interference....it works great..
boppy pillow with cotton covers, soft ones don't fit as well for some reason
lots of baby hangers, and baby hangers with clips to keep outfits together
primo euro bathtub
prince lionheart diaper depot and wipewarmer; ours works well and the wipes are still very warm when we get them to out dd's bottom; and she doesn't freak out when we are out and they aren't warmed, but seems to appreciate it when they are..
health kit: brush, comb, thermometer (not an ear one, not as accurate), nail clippers, etc.
baby meds, generic is just as good and a lot cheaper...desitin(or plain zinc oxide if you can find it)..not creamy, has less zinc ox in it....infant mylicon and tylenol
lots of diapers , make sure wherever you buy them will let you exchange them for a diff size if you need to even after the return period...brus let me do that, and buy a small pack of a couple brands to see which you prefer before you open the big boxes...wipes, lots of them, without alcohol or fragrance! we use swaddlers diapers and pampers sensitive wipes; no rashes, no reactions to their ingredients, diapers hold a lot when they have too and the netting tends to keep the wet off her bottom...
lots of baby washclothes, you may have to use them on baby's bum if it is really sensitive and gets a rash....and baby towels, but you could use your reg towels if money is an issue

swing, pref swings two ways and plugs in instead of batteries
bouncy seat
infant travel system! easy, easy, easy--we got the graco tour deluxe; it is great, folds with one hand, several seating positions, lays flat for sleep; has a big basket underneath and cup holders for mom and dad, one for baby , place for snacks for baby, and a 'pocket' up top for keys, cell phone, whatever you wanna put there...
play yard, get one with bassinet feature if you want to, easier to keep baby in your room for a while before putting them in crib in their room=we have chicco discovery and it is awesome, has more padding than most, easy to wash..machine wash, most are wipe down...very sturdy, has nightlight, vibration, etc and a flip up change table, has wooden slats that slide in under mattress for support...not that much more exp than the others and much better in my opinion
passys--she loves soothies and that is all she will take..
baby wash, again frag free, dye free
frag free , dye free laundry detergent
clothes hamper or basket
lingerie bag for socks, mittens, anything little so they don't get lost in the wash...
something to put baby toys in
extra toy links
lullaby cd and small cd player; my dd has come to love white noise, she naps with a fan and a womb bear; sleeps at night with a fan....
oh, mosquito cover for your infant carrier..it's where you can see in , baby can see out, but strangers cant just walk up and touch your baby, and they will!!!!!
all i can come up with now...LOL
diaper bags; big one for everything you may need, leave in car unless you will be somewhere a long time, and a small one to stick what you will need for a short run in so you don't have to haul the bigger one

if ffing:
avent formula dispenser; has better review than the ones made by sassy, and convert to a snack cup later...i loved it so much i bought a second one!
bottles--really liked playtex ventaire advanced when she was young, more pieces but it's easy to get them clean when the top and bottom comes off...and they vent through the bottom instead of the nip so no bubbles or foam going back up into baby's milk; they will leak if you don't put them together correctly, but we have had no probs with them and have never had to replace any parts on them..if u decide on them and have leaks, email me and i will explain how to keep them from leaking...:O)
bottle and nip brushes--i really like the ones by munchking that don't have a sponge on the end of the brush, they come in diff colors mixed with white and have a great nip brush in the handles....
drying racks--again, i really like munchkins...
formula mixer: i like dr brown's formula pitcher bc you don't shake it it is only abo

Why is so much money allocated to space research?

Q. This is a fair quesion, I am totally ignorent on why and I don't know the benefits of this spending. Also wouldn't it be better to spend money on medicine and things like that which have much higher chance of making money back?

but ones i put him on the floor he try to run

oh yea also when i put my hand in the tank he freeks out and runs to his hide spot

so dose this sound like a tame nile monitor if not why?

are their any tips for taming them?

Answer
As I and several others have told you repeatedly - there is no such thing as a tame Nile Monitor.

You're trying to make him tame by putting him through something that is obvious uncomfortable and stressful for him - this is going to lead to a large, aggressive lizard that absolutely HATES everything about you.

You need to stop trying to make him tame and settle for how he is, compared to others he is pretty good but that will change quickly if you persist.

A human-Nile Monitor relationship is one where the human feeds, cleans up after, and gives up an entire room to house the lizard, who in return at best tolerates the human and (usually) does not attack them.

Your persistence in trying to 'tame' this lizard, and your continued ignoring of our answers tell me you are not nearly responsible or mature enough to handle a lizard of this magnitude. I think you should try and find a new home for this little one before it gets any larger and sends you to the hospital.

What to do during a dog's seizure and what is the cost of medication?

Mo Money

My 3 year old lab had two seizures in March of this year (really weak, not diagnosed). Yesterday my wife and I noticed he was having one. I rubbed him down and talked to him during the seizure until it went away (3-5 minutes). What else can I do? I know I have to take him to the vet and most likely get him medicated. How much money are we looking at?

Answer
my dog had seizures and all i could do for her is sit and pat her and let her know i was there.

Its very sad to watch it happen to them

I the end the seizures did kill her

I just found this info if its any good

During the Seizure:

- Some dogs are light or sound sensitive during seizure episodes. Try dimming the lights and keeping phones at a distance from the dog.

- Keep old towels or baby diapers handy to catch urine if your dog urinates during seizures.

- Some human epileptics say they have an easier time if the seizure is allowed to run its course. Calling the dog's name to bring them out of the seizure may not be the best thing for your dog. Try it each way and see which is more comfortable for your particular dog's seizure.

- A fan blowing on the dog, or rubbing the feet and belly with cool water may help cool the dog down. Of course, in any case should the dog seem to be overheating due to repeated seizures or not coming out of a seizure -IMMEDIATELY bring the dog to/or contact a vet since overheating can be very dangerous.

- Many dogs are confused and even blind right after a seizure. Keep the dog in a safe area where they cannot fall down stairs or hurt themselves.

- Keep a careful journal of the seizures. As soon as possible write down the exact time the dog started to seizure and the time the seizure ended. A stop watch or watch with a second hand can be helpful. After the seizure is over and you have time - write down all circumstances surrounding the seizure, such as unusual food eaten, activities that happened during the previous day, medications or vaccinations recently given. A detailed journal can be helpful when bringing your dog to a new vet or neurologist.

- Be prepared to transport a dog that cannot stand up and walk, or is even in the middle of a seizure. Hard plastic children's sleds can be used to carry or drag the dog to the car. A heavy blanket folded can also act as a stretcher. If you are alone with a very heavy/large seizing dog, call the vets office for instructions. Depending on where you live you may want to try calling the police for help in getting the dog into the car if no one else is available.

Safety:

- Seizure proofing your home is important since most of us cannot be there to watch our dogs at all times. Seizures may occur when the dog is home alone. Many people crate their dogs while they are not there. An airline type crate (Vari-Kennel or Furrari) minimizes the chances of the feet getting caught up in the wires.

- While crating, or even when leaving the dog home alone, make sure the dog is not wearing a collar (especially with tags) that could get caught while the dog is thrashing. Choking can result.

- Some people make a special room for the epileptic dog, clearing out any objects/furniture that may injure the dog during a seizure. Crating or making a 'doggy room' may be the best idea should you have a 'catapulting dog', that is one that throws itself across the room during seizures.

- Never leave an epileptic dog alone near any water deep enough to drown in. If you need to, investigate getting a doggy lifevest for your dog.

- If you are concerned about your dog seizing while swimming, doggie life vests are available.

- Protection or separation may need to be considered in multiple dog households. A seizing dog can trigger the 'pack' instinct in which an injured animal on the ground is attacked. Monitor your dogs until you know their reactions to the seizing dog.

- Baby gates can be invaluable to block off stairways or confine the dog to a certain room.

- Be careful of leaving windows open should you have a dog that spends time near one. Screen windows can easily fall out of the framing as well as your dog.

- Prop a large piece of styrofoam insulation against a sliding glass door if you are afraid of your dog hitting against it.

- Buy a new or used baby alert monitor to 'hear' your dog if he sleeps in a different part of the home. Just put the receiver part in your bedroom -this may help you sleep better if you are constantly trying to 'listen' to hear if the dog is all right.

- If you really want to know what happens when you are not home, buy a voice activated tape recorder. It only records when significantly loud noise is heard. This will not only let you know if your dog has seized, but if he has been barking all day. Some also videotape their dog during the time they are gone. They then fast forward thru the tape to see if anything unusual has happened during the day.

- Keep phone numbers to your vet and all emergency vet hospitals near all phones. 2:00 a.m. in the morning is not he time to decide if your dog is in status and then figure out what to do. Drive by the emergency vet so you know exactly where it is. When traveling, get emergency numbers in advance or immediately find the hospital nearest you when you arrive. Keep the number handy at all times.

- An ID tag on a lost epileptic dog is very important. It's scary enough to think of a lost dog, but a lost dog without medications is even worse. Medical alert tags are available at most pharmacies, pet supply catalogs or from your vet. It can even be engraved and worn with your dog's regular tags.

- Train all your dogs for basic obedience. You may need it someday if you are walking multiple dogs and your epileptic seizures. The situation would be much easier if the other dogs will obey a sit or down stay.
