What are the best ways to motivate yourself to stop doing something and do another instead?

Pestilenci

I'm asking for your opinions, and please make them as looooooooong as you wish! :)
______________________
Why am I asking this, you wonder? I am a computer addict. Besides, I'm a really active person with lots of interests and aims (I'm a Sagittarius btw, so it's no surprise at all :D). I want to do and achieve many, many, many and many things in my life. For example - I want to learn Norwegian and Finnish, have a band, learn to play some songs on the guitar, write a book + continue writing poetry, also I want to start drawing again, etc.etc. However, there's that little obstacle - whenever I get some free time, like now, during the holidays, and I get LAZY AS HELL and only stare at the monitor ALL DAY!!! ;X In the end of the day, when I go to bed I just feel mad at myself, because my many goals are overwhelming then - but I'm too sleepy and then the next morning - all over again. IT'S BEEN LIKE THAT FOR YEARS NOW! Don't know what to do anymore, I just wish I could throw the PC from my window and get a life! :D Unfortunately, I can't because it's my mom's computer.............. With 2012 on my doorstep I feel I need to make a HUGE change in my life and this is it: no more World of Warcraft and other useless stuff wasting my time! But... how???
________________________

So, I really need YOUR opinion, your advice. What actually worked for you? What's your personal experience?
Yeah, I know, all my stuff are waiting... all those books to read and guitar and stuff... and so muuch more! But whenever I have free time I just feel like: "Ohh, I don't feel like doing this or that right now, I'd rather browse deviantart.... or play WoW....". Just can't get in the right mood or something like that...

my dates keep changing?

Mommy

Hello my fellow moms to be and those TTC.

I just wanted a few opinions on a situation that has recently arisen.
I am currently, by my dates 37 weeks and 6 days pregnant. I was also this far along with my OBGYN up until recently as well. My LMP was March 30th 2011 and lasts 7 days from the first day it starts. my fertile window would have been 2 weeks after the first day. I got a FAINT positive on April 30th after waiting for my period to arrive throughout the day. By my dates, and by the dates I had intercourse with my husband, it would have put me at Jan 4th 2012. NOW my OBGYN is dating me by an ultrasound done at 7 weeks and 1 day which put me at Jan 11th 2012. This makes NO sense to be because JUST last week I was being considered full term, I started contracting on Wednesday night when I was exactly 37 weeks and went into L&D and I was contracting for 4 hrs at 4 minutes minutes apart. I finally got fed up and decided to go home, the contractions eventually have died down. I dilated to 2cm according to my OBGYN at my follow up appointment after that. Sunday, I went in again at about 12 in the afternoon with contractions that were again 4 minutes apart for 2 hrs only to hear the news that I was being considered "preterm" I was on the monitor for for another 4 hours to be checked to find out I made no progress so I opted to leave, contracted all night and all morning the next morning, I went to a follow up and found out I dilated to 3cm. I know my body and I really feel like i'm already full term, I had my belly palpitated yesterday and my OBGYN told me that by next week the baby will be 8 lbs. I really don't know what to do, but I am tired of being labeled "early" or "pre term" there is nothing pre term about this baby or my belly.....it's huge and the baby is huge.
I have already lost my mucous plug as well and the baby is at -1 station.

Answer
Honey this happens all the time. My friend was told that hers is off by a whole month. She had her baby 2wks ago and the dr that delivered her baby said that there was not way she was only 34wks and someone messed up on her dates. i wouldn't worried about it too much as long as your baby is healthy.

Best baby monitors?

Q. What baby monitor do you have or do you think is the best? There are so many different ones and I dont know which one to get. Thanks.

Answer
I have the simple FisherPrice system with one base and two "walkie talkies." I got that one because a lady at Babies R Us was returning the video monitor because she said it was a waste of money and you can never get a clear picture. Her sister had the one I mentioned and loved it. I also loved it was only $25.00.

Angelcare Movement Baby Monitor?

The Bucket

I'm looking at baby monitors and have some questions about the Angelcare Movement Monitor...so if you have it I would really appreciate some answers! It says that the monitor can detect when your baby stops moving, but wouldn't it be going off all the time when the baby is sleeping? Or is it so sensitive that it detects breathing? And how is the picture quality/night vision picture quality? And is the zoom feature good or does it just make the picture more grainy? Do you recommend this monitor? THANKS!

Answer
I have the angel care monitor without the camera, the way it works is that it has a pad that needs to be put under the mattress, it cant be used under memory foam mattresses it has a sensitivity dial to work under diff mattress types and to detect tiny babies as well. it basically picks up babys breathing and if they have an irregular breath it alarms at 15 sec to warm you with a beep, then if the baby doesnt move again in 5 more seconds it alarms loud to wake the parent and the baby.

Mine worked a dream i followed the instructions carefully and it was brilliant as it also monitored the babys room temp and warned me if it got too hot or cold. the sound was great. we had 2 false alarms because my baby was 6lb and moved to edge of cot where monitor didnt pick up her delicate movements but at least i knew it worked.

i wouldnt have been able to sleep without it to be honest i give it 5 stars, the monitor version came out this year and has been awarded best buy so im guessing its good as well.i would highly recommend it.

Angelcare baby movement and sound monitor?

Mslaruuue.

I want to buy the baby monitor with the sensor pad that goes off if it does not detect movement or breathing for 20 seconds.. My boyfriend thinks this is extreme and over the top. Does anyone currently use one and if so, how do you like it?

Answer
Not worth it. I had a friend who bought something like this & it often went off just because the lack of movement. Babies often don't move while asleep.

I'm not sure which baby monitor to get? First time mum and I worry a lot, please help!?

dizzi

I'm due in October and am just looking for a baby monitor. I have read that the Tommee Tippee and Angelcare (not sure which models) both with sensor pads, and the BT 150 are good. I'm not sure about the sensor pads, I have heard they give a lot of false alarms, plus I don't want to be too paranoid. I know they can be useful for premature babies or those with health conditions, but what about full term healthy babies, is there any need?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
If you are already a worrier the more things your monitor "checks", the more things you're going to worry about. When the breathing monitor isn't going off you'll wonder if it's really working, with video you'll spend your day watching the monitor.

I would suggest a good quality audio monitor with 2 receivers. What will work best for you depends on where you live, in an apartment complex, a house, near an airport...etc.

If you don't have to worry about interference then a model like the Fisher Price "Lights and Sounds" is a great choice. Always rated highly and about $40. It's the model I've used for over 3 years with no problems. If intereference could be a problem, skip the 900 MHz models and go with one in the 2.45 a 2.54 GHz range. The prices are almost the same, and with the 2.xx GHz models you're pretty much guaranteed no interference.

A couple of good choices in that range are the First Years "True Choice digital monitor" ($80), and the Graco "I-vibe" ($90). Both have 2 receivers so you can leave one in your bedroom, and have one to carry around.

Hope this helps,

Alan

Why has my baby stopped cooing and babbling?

Mlly

My baby just turned 4 months old. A few weeks ago she stopped babbling. She still smiles and laughs, has even belly-laughed a few times. She maintains eye-contact. She watches my mouth when I talk to her and moves her mouth like mine. If I talk or even whisper when I when I go into her room when it's time to get up from a nap, she wakes up, so I don't think hearing is a problem. Physically she is rolling over, grabs things very well, tries to stand up whenever she gets her hands around my fingers. She just doesn't seem interested in saying anything. Should I be worried? (because I am! :) ) Thanks!

Answer
No worries! Babies go through major developmental shifts, and sometimes that includes the sounds they make... sounds like she's just content to listen right now, which is great. The monitor for worry seems to be weight gain and happiness. If she's eating well and cheerful, what more could we ask for? :) Congrats on your beautiful little girl!

7 week old baby sleeps restless at night but fine during the day?

megan_79

I have a 7 week old. We have those video monitors. She is sleeping for longer periods at a time - anytime betwen 5 and 7 hours at a time at night, but it seems to be restless sleep. We have video monitors and I'm constantly being woken up because I hear her twisting, turning and moaning and I think she is on the verge of waking up, but she doesn't really. When she sleeps during the day, she seems so peaceful? At night, I turn on a "sound" maker - so it sounds like rain / white noise in her room. Again - she sleeps, but it seems like such restless sleep and I'm not sure why.

Answer
The sound machine is wonderful. A lot of babies seem restless at night. They babble, twist and turn, and move all over the crib. Really we don't know why. My thoughts are that they are dreaming. And working through things in their sleep. They are in the deeper REM sleep longer at night and therefore have more dreams. Think about it. You don't lie still in your sleep at night either.

which baby monitor is beter?

lepardgeck

i need to get one and i was wondering which one you would get and why thanks would you get this one http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=7977222

or

http://www.target.com/First-Years-49MHz-Monitor-Receivers/dp/B0001GZ3VE/sr=1-13/qid=1213662627/ref=sr_1_13/601-1610678-6824921?ie=UTF8&index=target&rh=k%3Ababy%20monitors&page=1

are they both good please write as much info as possible

Answer
What are your needs? Neither of these monitors will likely work in a 3 level home or in one with a lot of square feet. They just don't have the distance. I do want to say that your Fisher Price selection worked perfect for my cousin and his GF in their split level home.

If you need more distance or need it also for going outside (say to get the mail or garden), then this one would be a better choice.
http://www.target.com/Fisher-Price-Private-Connection-Monitor-Receivers/dp/B000WU5NFA/qid=1213663234/ref=br_1_3/601-2826059-0605710?ie=UTF8&node=1041936&frombrowse=1&rh=&page=1

Even people at e-pinions didn't like your one selection and I suspect the problem is interference in the neighborhood or within the home. As mentioned, my cousin had it with no problems after nearly 3 years. I would ignore the advice of the reviewer at Target. She has had 3 monitors and nothing works. She doesn't get a clue that it is her HOME that is the problem, not the monitors.

What is the best baby monitor out there?

KanKan

Im going to be a first time mom & my baby's nursery is on a different floor in my house. Im looking for the best portable baby monitor, possibly a picture one. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Answer
I would go for a basic sound only monitor. When I was setting up my nursery we bought a motion and sound monitor. I found it to be useless for a new born as the baby was too small to set it off. It needed an adult or something bigger to set it off as it needed big movements (a hand waving in front of it.) I have one by fisher price that came with 2 speakers and the base. It is really good and picks up all sounds (it is so sensitive that it picks up the grand father clock chiming in the dinning room!) I love it. It only cost us about $80 from baby target.

Yet another question abt. homemade baby food?

Malia

I was wondering....if I made peas for my daughter (she likes the jar kind) and I didn't use fresh peas but frozen, instead of cooking them, can I just take a good amount out and put into a clean bowl with a lid over night and let them defrost and puree them in my Magic Bullet? Or do I HAVE to cook them? I would think not if they were completely defrosted. And I could always nuke it in the microwave too. What about frozen greenbeans? Or should I stay away from those because of the nitrates? My baby girl is 5 months old yesterday. I just want to do what's right

Answer
It's best to steam veggies for baby food. Always cook them. Veggies are frozen uncooked which is why you can refreeze them once you have made baby food out of them. "Nuking" anything in the microwave destroys any nutritional value so I wouldn't suggest doing that when making baby food. A quick steam retains the most value. Even boiling water will lessen the nutritional content but not to the extent of microwaving. Are you away that you should be introducing a new food each week? This is important because you need to be monitoring her reaction to new foods, in case of anything adverse. Start with yellow veggies (squash, yukon gold potatoes) then to green, then orange. Since she's five months now, I would keep her on the yellow veggies until next month and then move forward with the green and orange.

I'm having a baby list everything I need!!?

Caroline

I already have a cot and baby seat. I know I need a pram/stroller, I want a change table. What else do I need? It's clearly baby number one! I'm not yet sure of the gender

Answer
First of all, congratulations! How exciting! I just has my first baby a few months ago so I'll list some things Ive found incredibly useful based on my experience so far...
Bassinette/crib, waterproof pad, fitted crib
sheet, nightlight, Cloud B Sleep Sheep, receiving blankets, swaddling blankets, burp cloths(Gerber cloth diapers work well for this purpose too), lots of onesies, socks, pants, zip up pajamas(you don't want to be fussing with a ton of buttons in the middle of the night), depending of the weather you may need a couple of hats/beanies/jackets,(don't invest in too many shirts without snaps in the crotch because you'll constantly be pulling them back down), bibs, 6-12 bottles if you're not BF (Philps Avent wide neck bottles are great!), bottle brush, pacifiers, washable changing pads (to save money I never bought a changing table, I use the bed or couch with these pads or I bought a
memory foam bath mat at costco that you can set down on the ground and it works great too) buy diapers and wipes in value pack sizes, wipes warmer (or just warm them in your hand), Diaper Genie with refills, wait to buy formula in bulk to make sure baby is doing well with a specific brand, Mother's Bliss gripe water, baby Tylenol, Rectal thermometer, medicine syringe, nail clipper, travel cooler with ice packs to store bottles when you go out, diaper bag (keep an extra set of clothes in here), baby sunscreen, baby benadryl, A&D ointment (no powder because it can cause problems if baby inhales it) baby tub for sink, hooded towels, shampoo, soap, lotion, hair brush, baby carrier/sling, extra carseat base if you own two cars, fisher price swing (an absolute must have), bouncy seat, playmat, mobile for crib, a couple of coloful toys (they don't need many of these in the first few months), Sassy Go Go Bugs to hang on carseat for those long car rides:-), Boppy breastfeeding pillow, Lansinoh Nipple Ointment, breast pads, breast pump (you can rent one from the hospital), nursing bras/tank top, 4-6 week supply of feminine pads, sitz bath for yourself to relieve discomfort after vaginal delivery, bottles of hand sanitizer, baby book for yourself (Baby 411 or Heading Home With Your Newborn are really good reference books), folder/organizer to keep track of baby's health records, baby monitor, bottle of Dreft stain remover spray, and you don't have to but I bought two little baskets to organize my diapers, box of wipes and ointment and the other for washcloths, bathtowel, soap and hairbrush (makes it easier when you're trying to do things with one hand:-)) and don't forget about a digital camera/video recorder! (this is the first must-have item! You'll want to capture every moment) I think I named most everything that truly helped me out. If I think of something else I'll come back and post it:-).
One thing for sure you'll need before baby comes is SLEEP!! Can't stress this enough! You're days of sleeping in will be over, but it's well worth the sacrifice :-) and take a
little overnight vacation with your
significant other for some alone time. Also try to get most of your baby shopping done in advance because you'll probably be too tired late in your third trimester. Best of luck to you!.***:D

Question About Home Fetal Doppler Baby Heart Monitors?

JkB2521

I was just curious if anyone has used a home fetal doppler baby heart monitor during their pregnancy
I am 11 weeks and I just ordered mine today ~ I am renting one to use.
How was your experience if you used one ?
How often did you listen to your babies heart beat ?
How many weeks were you when you first started using one ?

Thanks so much for your help !!! :o)

Answer
I bought one when I first found out I was pregnant with my son. I couldn't hear his heartbeat until I was around 15 weeks but I LOVED it! I had just lost a baby right before I got pregnant with my son so it put my mind at ease between dr appts. I listened to his heartbeat everyday several times a day! I just loved hearing that he was ok. You can even hear the movements and kicks! Even hiccups. Its so cute. I'm sure you'll love it. Congrats on the baby!

mac os x lion running slow?

steven

probably 10-20 mins into a power-on my macbook pro 13" begins to lag really terribly. i usually starts with video feed like youtube or online movies. the audio will be fine but the video is super choppy; at first it starts out ok then gets worse and worse. although it's not just video feed it's everything; ie typing is lagged webpages lag aps lag, but i think the video feed catalyzes it all. i'm running on 4gbs of RAM so that can't be the problem. i looked at other forums and most advised a clean install but that's this whole ordeal i dont want to get into with putting all my shit on an external hard drive etc etc. is anybody else having this same problem? it's really fucking frustrating and i wanna toe punt a baby when i'm ten minutes into an action movie and you can hear jackie chan punch somebody in the throat but you don't get to see it.

Answer
I only have this issue when running parallels or running something very stressful like a video converter or massive software installation. Go to launchpad and click on utilities. Once there open activity monitor and close any programs you are not using or that are using massive amounts of resources. Also before turning off your mac make sure you have the restart apps button turned off. This will allowed a clean boot with nothing running. Best of luck.

Why use a Mac over a PC for Graphic Design?

Sqooshy

I begin my Visual Communications course in a few weeks. We're required to have a MacBook Pro, although a PC is acceptable.

I've alwasy used a PC based computer, would consider myself to be quite computer literate and to be honest, would rather not have to switch to a Mac. If there was a substantial reason as to WHY a Mac is of greater benefit than a PC I would be happy to, but researching it, I couldn't come up with anything compelling beyond it's "fun". As someone who likes arsing around with my computer other than organising photos and making podcasts, this doesn't impress me. In relation to this, the lack of Mac-compatible programs or upgrades is off putting.. along with this notion that I need to be baby sitted whilst using my computer, lest I infect it or crash it.

It appears to me that if most designers end up using Photoshop, Illustrator and Macromedia programs, then does it matter at all if you use a PC or a Mac? Or are there specific Mac programs that a lot of the industry uses that are essential?

The only reason my tutor gave for using Mac is that it's the industry standard. What exactly does this mean? Surely it matters what program you're using, not the OS?

The price is a big factor too. But it can be overcome if a Mac is a necessity.

Answer
The problem is that people in that Industry tend to hate Microsoft and go with perception instead of facts.. (No pun meant on perception). You are correct. There is no reason for Mac over PC, both can do the job.

PC=Variety of specs, options, quality, prices, vendors, support
Mac=One vendor, limited options, still more expensive. Look below for more information..

Today, Macs use a subset of PC hardware. Why spend extra to get the same CPU chips, graphics cards and OS X isn't as secure as you think..

Don't believe the lies that Macs are better than PCs at graphics/animation.. Dreamworks Animation http://www.dreamworksanimation.com/ under studio click on Technology of Animation, an independent film maker I know uses PCs, a graphic artist I used to know uses PCs also.

A number of PCs can also run OS X (Mac OS) http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=os+x+on+pc&btnG=Google+Search&aq=0&oq=os+x+on+ as well just that Apple makes it illegal in order to get Market share.. The reason why Mac can run native Windows is because it is using a subset of PC hardware,

If you decide to buy a Mac for running Windows, you will still have to get the same virus/spyware protection, and run into the same issues as a regular PC.

Now is a Mac worth buying for OS X?

I say: NO... for the following reasons...

QUALITY/PROBLEMS
Contrary to belief, Macs are not better quality. Apple also has been changing suppliers to try to "lower the price" and thus lowering quality. Even with the lower prices, Macs still cost more, they spend a higher percent of budget trying to make it look pretty, and marketing.

Sample of problems: Overheating Macbooks, OS X- not responding to keyboard, some units with 16bit screens, etc. Apple statistics are misleading since Mac users with problem machines are more likely to go out and buy a new computer than PC users. Apple is lowering prices which means you can expect lower quality than in the past. Apple had switched the manufacturers producing parts. OS X also has problems slowing down.

Repairs are more expensive than PCs since the IMac, Mac Mini are compact units, and Apple charges a premium for their services. Some repairs can be done by another repair service but the compact design of the computer causes problems.
With an IMac, if the problem is with the monitor, the whole computer would have to be brought in.
IMac and Mac mini lack expansion.

VIRUSES
Mac OS X has viruses (and significantly on the rise), a friend of mine has a virused Mac. As more users use Macs, more viruses will come out for it. Especially when users think "they are safe".

SECURITY
Mac OS X was hacked in 2006 less than 30 minutes, and within 2 minutes in a contest in 2008, and within 10 seconds in 2009. In 2008, Linux and Vista were not hacked until another day when restrictions were lowered. Vista was next, and then Linux. In 2009 Windows 7 fell shortly after the Mac but Linux was unscathed.
Macs are standardized with Cameras, if your Mac gets hacked, the hacker can turn on your camera with more ease.
Please Note: All OS's have vulnerabilities.

PRICE
A similar equipped PC is much cheaper to purchase than Mac. Lets use Dell (but you can compare with another PC Brand if you like)

**(DESKTOP)

PLEASE NOTE: I compare Apple Mac's vs Dells best deal. If you really want an all-in one the Dell all-in-one has more ram, wireless keyboard and mouse and equivalent to $400 for free making the Imac still more expensive when you matching specs. Personally I don't think the All-in-Ones are a good choice, and consider them overpriced, lack expandability and repairs both more expensive and require the entire computer.

PS: Apple knows that they need to make Macintosh look different than PC so all Macs except the Mac Pro will not have a tower option. Apple's low end lacks expandability but it makes the Mac "look different", if Mac had a tower for low-end, more people would realize the similarities between the two.

Dell: ($700)
CPU: 2.33 GHZ Dell Inspiron QUAD (4 Processor) CORE
SCREEN: 20inch Screen
MEMORY: 4GB Ram
HARD DRIVE: 500 GB hard Drive
OPTICAL DRIVE: 16x DVD/CD Read/Writer

http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=dddwra4&c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&kc=desktop-inspiron-537s

The Mac Mini since it has no monitor, keyboard, mouse, very skimpy on options and setup and is not the best deal... The IMac is better price than the Mac Mini.

IMac ($1300)
CPU: 2.4 GHZ DUAL (2 Processor) CORE (SLOWER CPU)

ADVANTAGES WINDOWS :
Aprox 90% of the market is Windows and most PCs have windows already pre-installed.
1) Some websites require Internet Explorer, to run IE on Mac you really get ies4osx which is the Windows version of IE running really buggy and illegal if you don't have a legitimate copy of Windows.

looking for a baby monitor?

Stella

I am looking for a baby monitor that will work best in my situation.

It will be used in a 2 story townhouse and only for nap times when he is sleeping upstairs and I am downstairs. I don't need it to work outside b/c we don't have a yard. It needs to work with wireless internet without static interference. I am not interested in a motion mat or video. I'd like to find a good one that is relatively inexpensive.

We bought a fisher price one but it has too much static.

Answer
You will find static on all that are analog --- just to varying degrees. Digital monitors aren't prone to interference like analog monitors are. So, digital ones don't get interference from other devices.

I've had two monitors that I really like ... one digital and one analog.

The digital one is by Safety First. It had no static interference, good battery life and good range:

The analog one is Sony Baby Call. It does have static, but it has "noise sensing technology" so when the level of ambient noise in the room is constant it shuts off --- so you hear absolutely nothing. When the noise changes (ie: your baby crying, moving around etc) it will turn on. It also has 27 channels to choose from so you are likely to find one with minimal static interference. And, because it shuts off you won't hear any noise coming from the monitor when your baby is asleep.

Which baby monitor should I buy?

Martha

Hello!
My daughter is 4 months old and realized we've not got a baby monitor! I donât want to be spending too much but after some research I see there is a huge difference in prices from about $30 - $200s.
So what would you recommend, I want a video monitor which doesn't need to have lots of fancy features, only a reliable one.

Thanks!

Answer
I really searched about baby monitors before we bought ours. So here are my tips:

Before buying one,
Think what you need:
Do you want a video or sound only monitor? Do you want motion sensor feature etc.

Know your house and neighborhood, and other wireless devices:
Are walls thick, and do you live in a place with lots of parents. If so select a long range one with multichannel option. If not you will always experience interference problems. Chose a digital baby monitor!

I've been using a video one called Motorola MBP36 - its really good actually and has night vision which is a definite plus, it looks a bit like a really big ipod, which is kind of cool. I live in a house with thick walls and use it with no problem and even in long range the sound and video is very clear. It has many other features too like night vision and temperature alarm.

So I really recommend you to buy a motorola mbp36 baby monitor as Iâm very happy with it.

It only cost us about $80 from baby target.

better WiFi on my 13 year old mac?!?

littlest t

Hi,
I just bought a new Samsung laptop and just for kicks, tried to pick up wifi signals in my building/area. My slow, crabby old Pismo MAC (13yrs old) can pretty much pick up a solid signal from every household from here to Japan...but this brand spanking new 1T Samsung can barely (1 bar, some times 2) pick up the signal from our neighbours next door! Plus, in the menu of available signals, the old mac lists about 30... the flashy new laptop, only 4!
We're getting our new wireless set up tomorrow and frankly I'm worried that this snappy new Samsung may be a write-off, quality-wise. I paid through the teeth for it, so I don't get it.
Could it just have a bad airport/wireless card? Should I exchange it?
Are there differences between laptop brands and the quality of their wireless/software in general?
Any suggestions?
I'd happily keep using the Mac except for the fact that it's only got a non-upgradeable 18GB of space and it's getting sloowww. Also can't really afford a brand new Mac :/

Thanks very much
Thanks, Dan. Well I am not surprised that newer laptops have crappier software - at the rate at which each company pumps out their different notebooks, I can't imagine the workmanship is all that great.
Maybe I will just spring for a new MAC - grrr.

Answer
Many newer tablets and laptops have crappy wireless reception.

If you are getting a new wireless router try to centrally locate it up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

If you still have a weak wireless signal, there are solutions.

Devices such as wireless extenders can expand your wireless range if need be. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004YAYM06/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=excharge-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004YAYM06

The wireless range extender receives weak wireless signals and repeats them to extend the signal range to greater distances. Some models include 4 Ethernet ports in addition to the wireless radio.

Good Luck...

mac os x lion running slow?

steven

probably 10-20 mins into a power-on my macbook pro 13" begins to lag really terribly. i usually starts with video feed like youtube or online movies. the audio will be fine but the video is super choppy; at first it starts out ok then gets worse and worse. although it's not just video feed it's everything; ie typing is lagged webpages lag aps lag, but i think the video feed catalyzes it all. i'm running on 4gbs of RAM so that can't be the problem. i looked at other forums and most advised a clean install but that's this whole ordeal i dont want to get into with putting all my shit on an external hard drive etc etc. is anybody else having this same problem? it's really fucking frustrating and i wanna toe punt a baby when i'm ten minutes into an action movie and you can hear jackie chan punch somebody in the throat but you don't get to see it.

Has anyone used a video baby monitor?

Pregnant w

How do they work?
What are the pros and cons?
I am thinking about buying one that you can have two monitors and see two rooms at once and was wondering how many people prefer it.

Answer
Congrats on baby #2!

I couldn't live with out my video monitor!! I have the Summer Infant Day & Night Handheld Color Video Monitor. The picture is so clear both at night and during the day. I love being able to check on my baby with out waking her. I don't even have to get out of bed unless she really needs me! I think if I only had the audio, I would have been getting up a lot more often to investigate every sound, especially during the first few months. The handheld part has a button on top so you can turn off the video screen if the light bothers you at night. Then if you hear something you feel you need to check on, simply click the button and the video comes back on. I read the reviews for this product. Many people say they could not get a signal. I never had a problem. I also read that they can interfere with wi-fi. My husband is a web developer... he never would have allowed wi-fi interference!

I highly recommend this monitor to all my friends. The only con I can think of is that I have had to change the channel due to static. Seriously, it's a flick of a button and I've had to do it maybe 3 times in 7 months. No biggie! I know you can get an extra camera for this monitor, but I don't need one yet. Here is what one person commented: "We bought a second camera to go with the monitor we already had. I love being able to switch back and forth between my two kids' rooms. Only issue is if the monitor is too close to one camera, you can have interference when trying to check on the other one."

Hope this helps.

Baby movement question?

nicmarmil0

I'm 36 weeks pregnant and at my last app. my doctor said she thinks the baby is laying sideways. I'm a very slim person (weighed only 103 pre pregnancy) and I feel like I'm about to pop. I always thought when you got this far along the baby movement would lessen but my baby constantly moves for hours and hours...and alot of times it feels like a fluttering movement rather than kicks. Do you think he is trying to turn head down but doesn't have enough room? This is my first pregnancy so I have no clue.
Also I'm having alot of sharp quick pains in my stomach what do you think that is?

Answer
My baby turned sideways at 35 weeks. I noticed a difference in movement. He moved a lot less and the kicks were located basically only left side under my ribs.

I went to the hospital for monitoring 2 times a week and he was fine, but the movements were hard for me to feel on my own because he was sideways.

With my pregnancy, the doctor confirmed the position with an ultrasound. She told me that if he did not turn head down by 37 weeks they were going to try to manually turn him. Worst case scenario, I would get a c-section.

I am 38 weeks pregnant and he has turned head down on his own. He does flip around a lot as well.

Don't worry, he still has time to turn. I was told to do a lot of walking as gravity may help pull him down. Also, to spend some time on your knees and forearms for a few minutes each day. I never tried it, but you never know....

Congrats and Good Luck!

Has anyone seen then summer infant peek plus baby monitor?
