I am doing a little research into baby monitors. I have seen the sensor mat/pad which lies beneath the baby's matress. It goes off if it does not detect any sound/movement for 20 secs.
Now, a few concerns...
a) does it go off quite often in the night (scaring you half to death) but usually false alarms.
b) how does it sensor movement when baby is laying still? breathing movements? of which it would have to be very sensitive!
c) Do they really work?!

we had one with our daughter. it senses the breath movements. The only time ours went off was when she finally figured out how to wiggle off of it giving me a heart attack lol.

Is it okay to sleep a 2 month old on their tummy while an adult is present?

My twins always fall asleep during tummy time... Anyway it would be so great if I could just allow them to sleep that way since they're up 90% of the day and it's so difficult to get them to sleep any other way.

Babies naturally are more comfy on their bellies and the risk of sids depends on so many different factors. I myself asked this question a month ago and did some research on sids and then decided my two month old could sleep on his stomach. He is in a cosleeper right next to my bed on a firm mattress and a sensor pad that came with my baby monitor which monitors his movement and breathing. This monitor has helped put my mind at ease. Now we are sleeping 6-8 hours a night :) instead of 2-3 intervals.
I would say as long as your babies can turn their heads from side to side try it if you are comfortable.....

I am looking to buy a video baby monitor through walmart. I am looking at the Graco iMonitor Baby Video Monitor, the Summer Infant 900 MHz 2.5" Color Handheld Video Monitor, and the MobiCam Ultra Wireless Color Video Monitor System. I have read reviews on all of them and have compared all of the features but still do not know which one would be best. Can anyone give me any input please? Thanks!!!!!!

Hi! Well since no one else answered your question I just thought to give some input from my experience. Perhaps you haven't yet had your baby? I was the very same way. I went out and planned every last product to put into my nursery: $200 bassinette, expensive travel system, breast pump set, sounds n lights baby monitor (fisher-price) etc. He won't sleep in the bassinette, the travel system is nice but the stroller that went with it is so big and bulky and so inconvenient and heavy to unload that I never us it. I used the breast pump only a few times because my milk didn't come in properly. The monitor is rarely used because I carry the baby with me everywhere in the house (in his carrier) but sometimes when I have the right batteries for it, I use it when I am outside visiting neighbors. I guess my point in saying all of this is that I think you should wait until the baby comes and you know for sure what will work for you and also you won't waste a lot of time and money on stuff that you regret and never use.

How to be healthy while pregnant with twins?

So I just found out I'm having twins today, and I want to stay as healthy as possible to make sure they grow properly, and are healthy, I just got married 2 months ago and these will be my first children, I want everything perfect.

So if anyone has advise please say how I can do it? I don't want to endanger them in any way.

What little I know comes from my friend's experience with twins. Eat well and eat often, and do it as soon as you can. One big issue with twins is that they are usually preemies. The faster you get help them gain weight, the better they'll do if that happens, so eat like it's a job at this point.

Cravings - if you crave it, as long as it's a food, go for it. Fat, calories, veggies, whatever. You often need something in that food. I would insist on getting your vitamin levels tested once or twice during the pregnancy - make sure you are getting enough for them, you know?

Take good care of yourself and rest when you need it. Don't push yourself to exercise if it's exhausting you - your need to be fat and happy is better than the need to be toned, you know?

PLAN. There's a good chance you might be on bedrest some time in the last trimester. It will relieve your mind if you have a potential plan in place, should this happen. The same applies for after the babies are born. You'll need help - arrange it now. Set up meals now or set up people to bring meals to the house for the first month or more. And think of how to do things when you'll have two babies. Look into how to breastfeed two babies at the same time (it's doable. My friend used to do it all the time, but it takes some practice), think about how to do X chore with two babies who might cry at the same time, or when they start to move, might crawl away at the same time, LOL.

Whether it's going to involve planning and organization you do, or help that you arrange to come to the house, having it set up ahead of time is one less stressor you have to deal with.

After the birth, breastfeeding is REALLY helpful. Mama's make special milk when they have preemies that they don't make with a regular birth - it's higher in calories and I believe it is also higher in disease/germ fighting properties than regular breastmilk, too, so it will really help your babies if they are born early. If they are too weak to suck, then pump and insist they feed it to them. You can do some research now on the issue - there's a lot of good research on the benefits of this. Another thing you may want to look into is how twins react if they are preemies and are kept together in the hospital. There seems to be some pretty compelling evidence that twins stabilize better, gain weight more, and are generally healthier if they are kept together after birth, in the same bed, if preemies.

Co-sleeping might be something for you to explore. There's a lot of good information about how to do this safely, and with such tiny babies, you may want to keep them close to monitor them more closely. And so you can feed them without having to wake up too much.

Little babies really don't "need" that much -- a few gowns or "oneies" (only a few, they will outgrow them fast) - bottles, unless she intends to breastfeed, a few "receiving" blankets, a place to sleep - twins can sleep in one crib until they are old enough to roll over - one at each end -
Then they will need separate cribs (you can use porta cribs to save space)
They will need Car seats (back facing). A Monitor would be nice -
Anything more is "icing" - look for bargains at thrift stores, etc.
Twins are likely to be premature-so expect them to be early and possibily need to stay in the NICU until mature enough to bring home.
I'm not even gonna discuss a pregnant 16 yo - condoms would have been much cheaper --
Perhaps she is considering adoption?

I had a dream the other night were I was 22 week pregnant some unknown person shoots me in the stomach. I went to a hospital and they saw the wound and gasped. I couldn't feel or see it. I just know I had wounds on either side of my stomach. They hooked me up to the monitor and I listened as my baby's heartbeat stopped. I didn't know what to think. A nurse said that may be everything will be ok. I went home but I was living with my parents. I deliver the dead baby alone. His hand came out first. Then the head. I carried this baby around with me. Then I lost the body and later found it under my blanket. This dream has stayed with me for 2 days. I can't stop thinking about it and wondering what it means. I have lost a baby girl at 22 weeks when I was 19. That was 13 yrs ago. In 2011 I had a miscarriage at 10 weeks. I have 2 children and desperately want another baby, but my husband doesn't. I keep hoping that he will change his mind or we might have an accidental pregnancy. But, I want to have some opinions on this dream. Thanks!
I am a Christian and I have had dreams about demonic things. This feels more like I am not going to get the baby I long for. I just don't understand why. I can easily handle three children. Go online and look at the websites for several colleges-state colleges, big and little state and private schools, and then look at the majors thaT those colleges offer. I didn't even know till I met my freshman roommate that you could major in speech and hearing theraspy and be a speech therapist.
You'll be surprised at all of the choices. Then, think about what your strengths are. If you're good at math and science, you might choose a chemistry or biology major. If you're good at writing, consider an English major. If you want to live in a foreign country-major in a foreign language.

Whatever you major in in college will lead you toward a certain career field.

Another suggestion, check out books from the library that include descriptions of careers and see what careers suit your personality.

I was also looking for a good baby monitor, and my husband and I wanted a combined video/audio one.

After much researching around and reading lots of reviews, we're going to get the:
Swann SW233-WDM VBM-330 Digital Video Baby Monitor
It costs about AUD$260.

These were our criteria for selection:
Audio - good microphone
Color video and reasonable screen size
No interference or use of multiple channels
Night vision (at least a few meters)
Thermometer a plus

We are hoping to find one that will work well in my 2 bedroom apartment that's not fuzzy. We just recently purchased a safety 1st monitor from walmart and its horrible! I couldn't imagine sleeping with all the fuzz.

I think i have the same one as the women above BUT i don't really recommend it. MOst of the times it's great but sometimes it's horrible. I think it catches signal from cell phones or even computers because even BEFORE my phone sounds off when i receive a text message the monitor makes a fuzzy light beeping noise. I actually still like it thought because it came with 2 portable monitors and the one to put in your baby's room has a night light that you can leave on or turn off. I paid $30 for it. These are the basic basic needs for me. You can get by without the others but not these.

The annual costs for a baby each year is different for every person. Some woman breast feed which is cheaper than formula. Others use cloth diapers which are cheaper than disposable etc.
I bought a pack of 15 reusable pea pod diapers for $70. These can be used from newborn right up to 3 years, so I only bought 1 pack of disposable diapers during the first year, to see what was better. Diapers are about $10 (new Zealand dollars) a pack. Babies go through about 5-10 nappies each day in the first few weeks, and then about 3-5 a day from around 4 months to a year. So do the math and it'll give you an approximate answer (get the price of diapers from your local supermarket).
If breast fed, it cost nothing. I breast fed, but I also bought a breast pump and baby bottles for $150 in case baby needed to be left with another person etc. if formula feeding, do some research online on the average formula used a month, and then times that by 12 (12 months in a year) get a price from your local supermarket.
Clothes- this depends on where you buy from etc, but I spent about $800 on all clothes up to 12 months. (including shoes, socks, togs, pyjamas etc)
I spent about $20 or so on baby shampoo, soap and powder every 6 or so weeks, so that's about $180 a year.
I bought baby towels and facecloths before my baby was born and they lasted right up until she was four. I spent $30 on 5 towels and a couple packs of facecloths.
Bibs- got given some at baby shower, but bought a few packs for $20 around about, these lasted the whole time needed.
Bassinet/Moses basket - needed for first 8 weeks, cost me $80
Crib- needed up until about 2- cost me $250
Stroller- needed up until about 3- cost me $150
Car seat- Bought a seat that was used from birth til 4 years. Cost $150
Blankets, sheets, duvets for crib- got given some at baby shower but probably costs about $100 for a couple pairs of sheets, blankets etc
Swaddling blankets- needed for first few weeks (I used them but not necessary) depending on brand etc but I got a few muslin wraps for $30.
Baby bath- optional, but I used one. $30
Medication such as baby Tylenol, gripe water, teething gel, teething powder etc about $50 all up the first year (depends)
Baby food- baby cereals, rusks, custards and other tinned foods probably about $90 a month (depends how much food baby eats. This price is based on my baby who at 7 months ate 2 tins a day, at $1.50 each) I also bought veggies and meat, and puréed these myself for baby. (this price will depend, as some babies don't start real food until a year old) my girl at 10-12 months was eating the same foods as I was.
Some people will put their children into childcare, this is another cost.
Where I live, medical attention for under 5's is free, but many people will have to pay for this as well.

I keep hearing these weird noises in my grandparents basement?

Well, for starters: ghost are a reality, not just a TV idea. I know because I lived in a haunted house for over 7 years. I had seen or heard ghost on a daily bases. The thought of a ghost doesnt mean demon. Ghost are like the living; there are good ghost and bad ghost; I have witnesses both. Then there are demons;and if you believe in god you had better believe in the devil. If not thats ok to, because they surly believe in you.
I use to think that ghost were just for TV until I had the unfortunate pleasure of moving in with them. The answer to the question in the back of your mind is " YES" you can PISS Them Off; not a good idea unles you wanmt a good case of the willies.
There is also the possability that you caught a glimps of the gardian angels watching over. My second house; third ghost:` My daughter had a regular visitor untill she was 3 years old. I lived in a new house, so nobody died in there. Every day she had a conversation with someone. I could hear voices through the baby monitor. My daughter could describe the person and had a name also. I did not know the name and could not find any information on that person either. How many toddlers can make up a first and last name?

Frankly it really don't matter what anyone thinks of my story. I know the truth and that is enough for me. I do have another theroy; maby your just crazy,LOL. Seriouly though, you may just be parinoid. just kidding. enjoy your ghost.

Clomid is very good in assisting pregnancy for couples who are having a hard time trying to conceive. I personally took it for two months (neither of which was successful) then my doctor decided to do a HSG, and I got pregnant right away, without the clomid!!

You doctor will monitor you whilst you are taking it, just because prolonged use of the drug can increase your chances of ovarian cancer. So if nothing has happened by a couple of months (i would say 6 to 12months) then your doctor would probably recommend IVF or other types of assisted reproduction.

Im sure everything will work out in the end and you will get the baby you have waited for :)

Can I turn my neighbors into the cops?

I think they are dealing drugs, they have people running in and out of there at all hours of the day and night, and there's pepole that are staying there that aren't on the lease. The woman who bought the place has two kids, and boy and a girl, and I think the boy is abusing the girl. I heard him say he was going to beat her if she didn't do what he said? I can't stand these people, they're disrupting my sleep. Can I turn them in, even though I have no concrete proof? Will they be investigated?
Excuse me, those of you that are telling me to mind my own busines: Would you still be saying that if someone was abusing your child? No, you'd probably wonder why nobody told you. I haven't seen this kid beating on his sister, but my friend that lives on the other side of them has.

If there are children in the home, you can contact Child Protective Services in addition to the police. If the woman living there receives government assistance (i.e., Section 8), you can also contact the Housing Authority. If you have a Home Owner's Association or Neighborhood Watch program, let them know as well. The more people you educate on this, the safer your neighborhood will be because there will be a conscious effort to monitor the traffic in your area...by the neighbors and authorities.

Also, don't call once and think that was good enough. When you call any of these government offices, get the name & direct line/number of the person you report this to. Call them back within 48 hours if they haven't contacted you to give an update. If tthey say they will call you back, get a DATE AND TIME of when and hold them to it!!
I'm dealing with a Felony 2 charge of a minor in the house across the street from us. It happened in MARCH and his court date has changed 3 times!! I have called the ADA, Detective assigned the case, HUD, and CPS on this case multiple times to be sure they don't drop the ball as I do not want this to be a case that "fell through the cracks...sorry." The kid broke into my house and pulled a knife on ME AND MY BABY! He has mental problems and that is NOT an excuse i am buying.
The kid you are dealing with could be saying this about the girl because that is what he hears being said in his house so he thinks it is acceptable.

How can we keep my elderly grandmother (who has alzheimer's) in bed at night?

We need a safe way to keep her from getting out of bed. She's broken 2 bones in the past 6 months due to getting up at night and slipping on the hardwood floors. Sleeping medication is out of the question, and we already have bed rails, a baby monitor, and motion detector.

Unfortunately in most nursing homes they have to use restraints to prevent elderly people from getting up and injuring themselves.

Is salmonella something i should really be concerned about?

I have a baby pet turtle. The other day i was siphoning his tank and i got some water in my mouth. Turtles very often carry Salmonella. Usually, Salmonella does go away on its own though, so give yourself some time. And very often it is not treated with antibiotics even if you do go to a doctor.

Occasionally though, the Salmonella infection is severe and sometimes people do wind up in the hospital (usually the elderly or the very young).

Monitor how you are feeling and if it lasts longer than a few days or you develop blood in the stool, then go see a doctor.

What is a baby monitor and how it works?

I have an elderly client with this baby monitor. Is it possible to move it just like any other electronic by unplugging it and plugging it in another room? So that if I move from room to room I can still monitor that person. I do not want to mess with it by taking it off without knowing anything about it.

A baby monitor can be 1 way , 2 way, an now they even have one with a camera attached. It usually has a base that you keep with the baby and a hand held you can walk around with. The 2 way allows you to hear the baby and speak back if you want. They work really well and its a great way to keep track of babies and small children while in another room or doing house work.
I have used these many times working in healthcare having elderly patients.

I am looking for a reliable video baby monitor that I can view on my computer at work, but that is independent in that it will continue to work as a monitor even if my internet connection goes down.

This was a catch 22 for me. Obviously to see my baby, and check they are OK was a good one. But I decided wireless technology is still in its infant days. Who knows in the future, whether exposing a baby to radiation is good for them. That's why I went with a wired monitor. So any wired monitor is the one I would choose, but that's the problem, most are wireless. Babies are especially vulnerable because their bodies and nervous systems are still developing and because they will have more time to accumulate exposure to the radiation and for any delayed effects to develop. The jury is out, but I don't personally want to be a guineepig.

But in the end went with just a simple wired sound monitor. You can put them closer, due to a much smaller magnetic field and hear the baby breathing . It maybe that magnetic fields dont harm the baby, but there have been some concerns in some of the trustworthy papers here in UK such as the independant.

Not convenient, you need PC and a web cam turn on in order for it to work.

Try exploring IP or internet camera, it include microphone and speaker for remote audio.

I think that you are asking in relation to cordless phones... In which case, there are NO 6.0Ghz cordless phones... there is however DECT 6.0 phones, which operate in the 1.9Ghz range...

When it comes to radio frequencies, the lower the frequency, the further the range, as long as all other factors remain the same. 900Mhz phones would in theory have the best range, however, they operate at lower transmitting power then other cordless phones.

From best (range, battery life, etc) to worse:

DECT 1.9Ghz - best range, least interference, unlicensed radio spectrum dedicated strictly for cordless telephones.

2.4 Ghz - next best range, however this unlicensed radio spectrum is crowded with wifi, wireless video cameras, and various other wireless consumer devices, and therefore subject to increased interference.

5.8Ghz - unlicensed radio spectrum, not as crowded as 2.4Ghz but also may contain other consumer electronics. range is limited compared to 2.4Ghz and DECT phones.

900Mhz - no security, can be listened in on any radio scanner ("police scanner") unless equipped with DSS. least range of all currently available cordless phones. Many consumer electronics such as baby monitors, and wireless intercom and doorbell systems, and garage door openers operate within this frequency range.
