See ma girlfriend is pregnant, and she has a uti. Is ok for her to take NITROFURANTOIN MONO/MAC 100mg Caps?

Answer
Macrobid (brand name of Nitrofurantoin) is what is known as a Category B drug during pregnancy, meaning that there is no suspected harm to the unborn baby. HOWEVER, there are risks taking it late in pregnancy (usually in the last 2 to 4 weeks). If the doctor knows her history, how far along she is, and is trying to treat an indicated infection, I would say she is probably okay. Just monitor the baby and report any abnormal symptoms ASAP. Generally, this medication is taken for a short enough period of time that it's not going to be too detrimental. Again, always better to be safe than sorry. She should be okay. Just monitor her health and the baby's as well while taking the entire course of medication. Congratulations to you and your girlfriend :)

Is an Apple Macintosh alot better than Windows?

Anonymous

I know this debate has gone for years but i am really tired of my windows xp computer! Freakin Data Execution Error won't go away and crap. Does Apple Machintosh have alot of errors like Windows>?

Answer
Been on a Mac since 1988. I (we) have 1/20th of the problems and 1/1000th of the viruses. Pop a CD/DVD in and it pops up on the screen. No C/://d/bk2C:// crap.

I have recommended Mac to the last 20 non-computer people that were looking for computers. Like suckers, they all bought el-cheapo's from chain stores with s/w they will never use. 85% said they should have listened.

If your going to use it seriously, invest the $$ into a good computer w/o the scanner, printer, baby monitor, camera, microphone, alarm clock/microwave options and a ton of useless s/w. No to mention the rediculous s/w upgrades every week.

Once you go MAC, you never go back :)

How can I improve my signal strength with a 900mhz wireless video baby monitor?

dcigary

We recently purchased a wireless video baby monitor, and although it does work, there is significant interference in the signal due to my computer room with several PC's and servers. Is there a way to boost this signal to compensate for the interference, or to set up a repeater for the signal?

Answer
If you have interference any sort of repeater or amplifier will only repeat and / or amplify the interference (noise) along with the desired transmission (signal). The problem is likely a signal to noise ratio problem and interference.

I presume you have done all you can with repositioning the units to make them closer together without getting closer to the interference. If not try that

With the electronic interference it becomes even more difficult to address. A baby monitor is nothing more than a microphone in the baby's room and a speaker in the monitoring room linked wirelessly. Can you use a wired system? This may be your only practical choice. Perhaps a 5 MHz

What kinds of baby monitors are available for deaf parents?

I've looked a little bit online and found a monitoring system where you basically hook your whole house into this receiver (phone, doorbell, alarm clock, baby monitor etc) that comes with light functions and a vibrating disk to put under the mattress. The baby monitor is sold separately and can be hooked up either way also. Together, all of this costs about $225-250. Do they have cheaper systems? In the 2 years that my husband and I have been together, we've never really seen the need to get anything like this for the phone and such...and since we have an apartment, we don't have a doorbell anyway.

Reason being - my husband is hearing impaired and we're thinking of having a baby in the next year and a half or so...I just want to be prepared. :) I don't think the little Fisher Price monitors that vibrate would be strong enough to wake him if I was at work...

What are some lizards that make good pets besides geckos?

Elijah

I've had a leo before, but gave her away to my little cousin as a gift and geckos weren't really my type of lizards, but I do like leos, banded, and fat tails though, but what are some others that make good pets and why do they and please list more than just "bearded dragons" I know their great lizards and my cousin had one for years, but im interested in hearing about some others. I have a strong preference for agamids/iguanids, monitors/tegus and gila monsters/beaded lizards. What is on your list of "great pet lizards" and what makes them good pets?

Answer
Top ten best reptile pets besides leos and beardies.

10. Crested Gecko- Great, beautiful creatures with a friendly attitude.

9. Blue Tongue Skink- Large, amazing animals with a tameable side, and beautiful color pattern.

8. Iguana- Can grow to 6 feet +, Friendly when tamed animals, with a easy food budget, but sometimes pricy cage setups.

7. African Fat Tailed Gecko- Colidiscope skin patterns, with a friendly attitude towards all people. Usually always calm.

6. Anoles- Easy to care for, cheap, and minimum cage requirments.

5. Flying Geckos- Good calm animal, but do not like to be handled much.

4.Savana Monitor- A huge animal that should only be taken care of expeirenced reptile handlers. Good pet if you are though because of the size and personality of this animal.

3.Brown Basilisk- A swift, agile runner, the brown basilisk relies on lightning fast bursts of speed to attack and surprise its prey. A awesome, dragon like animal! Would make a very cool pet.

2.Chinese Water Dragon- Chinese water dragon babies that are only 4 or 5 inches long may be kept in a 10-gallon aquarium, but they will eventually need to be moved to a larger terrarium. Amazing color and very cool to watch.

1. Chameleon- A beautiful and exotic color changing reptile. They are very easy to tame, but could be a little pricey.

Hope this helps!

What are the first symptoms of pregnancy?

Britney Th

Okay what I need to know would be best abswered by people who were trying to hace a baby. What are the first symptoms y'all experienced in the first 3 weeks after conception? Me and my hubby are tryong to gave a baby and I think I may be but its to soon for a test

Answer
See if you're experiencing any of these top 10 signs of pregnancy:

• 1. Light Spotting - When implantation occurs, it's possible to see light spotting before your menstrual period begins. It will bee seen in a pinkish or brownish color, but as a discharge.

When you have a normal cycle it should start light, get heavy, and then taper offer before it stops. So if light spotting is noticeable, then it's possible that you have conceived.

• 2. Frequent Urination - When dealing with frequent urination it's important to think about what you've been drinking. Water and alcohol can cause frequent urination, but it can also be a sign that you're pregnant.

Some women experience this before they realize a period has been missed. It's normally about 7 to 12 days before the temperature rise at ovulation.

A lot of it has to do with the changes in hormone levels. This is caused by the implantation of the embryo as well as the human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG). Both can cause more frequent urination.

• 3. Elevated Body Temperature - When a woman is ovulating, it's normal to see her body temperature rise. Then again, if it stays high through your period, it could be because you're pregnant. Take the time to monitor this when it occurs - another of the 10 pregnancy signs.

• 4. Missing Your Period - This is usually one of the most common of the 10 pregnancy signs that women look for when trying to figure out if they're pregnant. While this is true, there are several other reasons why a missed period can occur.

Whether it's illness, stress, hormone imbalance or reactions to food or medications - any of them can be the reason a period is missed and not necessarily one of the top 10 signs of pregnancy.
5. Fatigue - Even though it's hard to tell if your fatigue is due to pregnancy, it could be an additional sign mixed in with any of the others.

It means there is a change in the hormones, but once the body adjusts to the new ones it shouldn't be an issue anymore.

• 6. Cramping - If you're moving around, exercising, or having an orgasm and experiencing cramps, it might be because you're going to have a baby.

• 7. Nausea - Another sign most women look for is nausea. We associate this as "morning sickness," However, out of all the early signs of pregnancy here, only half of the women who are pregnant ever feel nauseated throughout the day.

8. Tender Breasts or Nipples - This is also due to the change of hormone levels in the body, but when we adjust then it will go away. If you're pregnant it's going to stick around for awhile.

• 9. Darker Areolas - Seven days after conception you might notice your areolas becoming darker around the nipples. It's also possible that the bumps will look more prominent.
10. Constipation - Bowel changes can always occur during the early stages of pregnancy. Thanks to the change in hormones your intestines might decide to relax a bit and take a break.

Alright so my best friend is having a little girl...shes the first of my friends to have a baby, and i want to get her something really nice. I'm willing to spend around 200 dollars on the gift.. id like to get her something practical but something thats still pretty special. Any ideas would be appreciated, my price range is a little flexible but i dont want anything too crazy over my budget!

Answer
I recommend getting her an AngelCare baby monitor that has a sensor pad that goes under the babies crib mattress and is sensitive enough to tell if baby is breathing or not. If it doesn't feel movement for 20 seconds the alarm will sound. My son is over 2 and we still use his every night. It is the most practical and usefull thing that she will ever receive.

Does the Angel Care baby monitor really work? Does it really detect your babies breathing?

Ashley

We just wanted to get some more information on how it really works. The FAQ on the site was pretty vague. Thank you!

Answer
It detects movement in the crib. Breathing = movement. But you have to remember to keep anything that would create movement artificially away from the crib. That means no mobile, no fan blowing directly on the crib (not like you would anyway), and no toys that create vibrations. If your baby stops breathing, there is no movement, and the alarm would sound off. But if something like a mobile is moving and preventing the sensor from picking up this lack of baby movement...

We have one and love it. We have a very small house and we both never really felt comfortable having our daughter sleep in our bed with us. We literally did not have the room next to the bed for a bassinet, so she was in her crib from day 1.

You can set your parent's unit to continuously monitor the noises in the room, like a regular monitor, or you can set it to only pick up noises like coughs, rolling around, and cries. This was huge for me, because with a regular monitor, I wasn't ever getting any sleep. I was listening for noises which weren't there, and the constant static would drive me crazy (static is non-existent with this).

As far as the movement part of it, we never had a false alarm. The only times the monitor ever went off was when we took our baby out of the crib without shutting the nursery unit off first. There is a setting on your parent's unit that you can turn on or off, whatever you prefer...it's a rhythmic "tick" sound. As long as it ticks, it indicates that the movement sensor is working. Or if you're like us, you can turn it off and just test it once a day. My daughter is healthy, but it gave me extra piece of mind knowing that we had it. No, it doesn't *prevent* SIDS, but it helps to keep you in check with your baby. If we didn't have this monitor, I'd be going in her room while she was sleeping all the time and putting my hand on her chest to make sure she was breathing. As a new mom, I was completely petrified of everything.

Another great feature I loved is that it detects and displays in digital format the temperature in your baby's room on your parent's unit. You can set it to sound off an alarm if the temperature in the nursery drops too low or kicks up too high, at temps specified by you.

The parent's unit is cordless and rechargeable, and the charge lasts a full day and night, and probably longer, but we've never let it go that long.

My daughter is 14.5 months and we still use the unit as a sound monitor only. After trying all kinds of monitors, even as a sound monitor I would have spent the extra money for it.

To me, the cost of the monitor is pennies to give you that extra piece of mind.

My daughter is almost 18 months and I still use a baby monitor. It makes me feel a lot better to have it on, especially at night because her door is closed and I have a floor fan going for white noise. I have no idea when I'll stop using it, but probably not anytime soon. I was just curious how old your LO was when you stopped using one.

Answer
My twin boys are almost 5yrs old and I still have a monitor in their room. I like to hear what's going on in there, especially when they are playing in their room and I'm 2 floors away doing laundry in the basement. My husband and I actually enjoy listening to their conversations after we put them to bed, and if they start playing around too much we can go up there and tell them to get to sleep and we can hear if they get out of bed.

I had a baby boy back in June of 2008. I was so excited about having him and i was in labor for hours. But unfortunately when it was time to deliver the doctor came in and said he was stillborn. I am expected to have another in February of 2011 but dont want to go through the same thing of having to wait and then find out the bad news. What should i do??

Answer
In your case dear, I would talk to your doctor and explain your fears with having another attempt at natural birth.. What I don't understand is why the monitors didn't alert the doctor/nurses that the baby was in distress and they didn't hurry and rush you into the operating room to save your child. That thought scares the crap out of me, like you I'm due in February of next year... Going by the statistics, natural birth is better for your body than a cesarean.. If your doctor says you should try it again and you feel comfortable with it, I say give it another shot. If you're haunted by your previous attempt, I'd go for the c-section. I hope in the end everything turns out well for you, and that you're blessed with a healthy and beautiful child. :-)

What is the best medication for anxiety and depression? (LEGAL)?

Lucas

I'm a minor btw, if you want to know what is wrong with me just go to my other Questions. So, what is the best medication for anxiety and depression? That's legal and don't say weed.

Answer
Do more research:
Some things you should know about antidepressants, They're unpredictable.
-1 in 10 users get amazing results
-1 in 4 users get adverse effects. When the effects are bad. THEY'RE REALLY BAD
-The rest are neutrals and placebos
-More people want to commit suicide on the drug than on the sugar pill
-You need to be monitored. Its the most dangerous when you start, stop or change dosages
-Going cold turkey is the most dangerous thing a person could do
-you can't just stop whenever you want to
-Once you start taking the drug you'll always be under the influence of the drug. Even long after you quit.
-it can be hard to quit the drug
-Chemical imbalance is a THEORY that's been disproven. So the drugs aren't physiologically fixing anything its just chemically altering your state of mind. This is what they call mind-altering drug. It effects everything
-Any professional will tell you the drugs alone will not fix the problem.

There are alternatives and you can ask about them. Ultimately what will help you is a combination of things. Which is taking care of your body, regular exercise, good nutrition, regular sleep. Then the cognitive stuff, work out your issues, replace your unhealthy cycles with a positive one. Set rules, boundaries and limitations for every state of mind. Gain a healthy Relationship between you and anxiety and depression. The goal and cure is to move on.

The pills aren't THE way its one way. If it doesn't work for you or you don't like it you don't have to be a continual guinea pig for the drugs. Psychiatry isn't the only way. Its one way. If psychiatry doesn't work. There are alternatives.
If you watch this documentary about the industry you'll see testimony of psychiatrists, psychologists, users, drug reps, etc to gain a different perspective on this stuff. Not to say Psychiatry is awful but it does have its flaws that people need to watch out for in today's standard practice.

Do I need a router to go with my cable modem for a wireless connection to my desktop?

JD

I am using a NetGear WiFi adapter on my desktop (budget build) with the Time Warner supplied wireless modem, and it works well, but I no longer want to pay the lease fee. I am reading good things about the Motorola SB6141 modem. Can I purchase just that modem to use with my wifi adapter, or must I get a router too?

I am open to getting the modem/router combo if I must or even a separate router and modem. What are some of the pros and cons? I am on a relatively slow connection: 3 megs from Time Warner, and I am relatively happy with it. Could a new modem improve my wifi connection (although that is secondary to saving money)? As long as I don't go backwards in performance I am happy.

Thanks--John

Answer
Yes, the SB6141 does not have wireless routing functionality.

Two types of Internet devices are commonly sold.

1. Combination modem / routers, often called gateways.

2. Stand alone routers which can be connected to a stand alone modem.

You'll either have to buy a cable gateway or purchase a standalone cable modem such as the SB6141 that can be connected to a standalone wireless router.

The second option gives you more versatility. Router speeds and features change much more frequently than cable modems do. If you have separate units you can upgrade one if you like.

I would recommend the Motorola Surfboard line.

GATEWAY:
Motorola SBG6580 Gateway (Combo Modem/Router) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007GZ2QKO/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B007GZ2QKO&linkCode=as2&tag=excharge-20

CABLE MODEM:
Motorola SB6141 Cable Modem (Modem Only) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007IMPMW4/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B007IMPMW4&linkCode=as2&tag=excharge-20

I have Cox Cable 50 Mbps Internet and have had good luck with a DOCSIS 3.0 Motorola SB6120. It is just a older model of the SB6141. Here is a review I wrote a few years ago when I bought it. http://isp1.us/reviews/motorola-sb6120-surfboard/

If you go this route, there are many WiFi routers to choose from.

It pretty much comes down to what features you want and how much you want to spend.

As far as the brand goes, the brand is not as important as the model. Some manufacturers release a good model but the next is crap. I would look at the Amazon reviews of models that interest you. Even if you don't buy from Amazon the reviews will tell you a lot about which models to avoid. Look for at least 15 or more reviews with a 4 star or better rating. Read a few and see if they sound like the particular model will work for your application.

For under $50, this Medialink is the most popular and highly reviewed model. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A3YN0Z0/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00A3YN0Z0&linkCode=as2&tag=excharge-20

As far as performance goes,

No router or connection type will change your 3 Mbps Internet speed. This connection bandwidth is shared by your entire home network via your router.

For example, If you have a 3 Mbps Internet plan and one user is utilizing 2.5 Mbps of the bandwidth to stream a Netflix movie that only leaves 0.5 Mbps for all of the rest of the users on the network.

Super fast wireless routers and connections permit fast transfer of files between devices connected to your home network (LAN), however Internet (WAN) speed is still limited by your ISP. The only way to improve your Internet speed is to upgrade your plan or switch to a faster ISP.

That being said,

All wireless connections will have a slower speed than a direct Ethernet connection.

Wireless signals are affected by many factors including distance, wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc.

All of these factors will affect your actual wireless range, speed and connection quality.

You should try to centrally locate your wireless router or gateway up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

For stationary devices such as desktop computers or devices used for serious gaming or video streaming your best bet is a direct Ethernet cable connection. Ethernet is unaffected by wireless interference and will give you a rock solid, stable network connection.

If it is not feasible to run Ethernet cable the next best option would be a set of powerline network adapters http://isp1.us/reviews/netgear-xavb2101-powerline-adapter/

You plug one in by your router and one in the room where you need access and connect them to the devices with standard Ethernet patch cables. The network signals are transmitted over your existing home electrical wiring which will not be affected by wireless interference. There is still overhead in the connection but it is much more stable than WiFi.

ACTIVATION:
Most cable Internet providers use the cable modem's MAC address to activate the modem.

Every device that has a network interface has a unique MAC (Media Access Control) address. This is usually expressed in hexadecimal such as 10:25:A4:59:EF:1C

You'll have to call your cable provider with the MAC of the new modem so they can activate it on your account. The MAC address is usually printed on a sticker attached to the modem.

Good Luck...

How long should a newborn sleep in your bedroom?

best baby monitor for newborn
on Top 5 Gadgets For Parents Of A Newborn Baby
best baby monitor for newborn image

Jillian Ir

I am expecting and am new to this all. As a new mother, I know there are going to be things that are going to go wrong but, I'd prefer to keep them to a minimum, as we all do. I am planning on keeping her in a bassinet in our bedroom until she outgrows it. But, I was thinking, once she outgrows her bassinet is it okay to leave her in her crib at night and rely on baby monitors? Or is there a certain amount of time she should spend in our room with us? (Of course not in the same bed obviously).

Answer
You are going to hear from two camps on this issue. Some people believe that kicking your baby out of your bedroom and making him scream until he passes out will teach him independence. Other people have yet to find evidence to support this, and we prefer to allow our babies to sleep where they are happy.

You absolutely may share a bed with your baby if you like, and doing so safely will actually REDUCE the risk of SIDS. Studies that say otherwise fail to differentiate between safe cosleeping and unsafe cosleeping. If you change your mind about cosleeping after baby is born (many parents do, including me), learn how to do it safely and enjoy it. It makes nighttime feedings easier!

You may also move baby out when you want, and there are techniques to do so gently. There is a great book called The No-Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantley. If you start from birth, your job will be easy!

There is another book that all new parents need to read, and it addresses sleeping, feeding, development, first aid and medical care and parenting among other topics. It's called The Baby Book by William Sears. Dr Sears will teach you that you already know how to take care of your baby, you just need to tune out bad advice.

To answer your question, There's no way to know what you'll need to do about sleeping arrangements until that time gets here, so make up a tentative plan, and don't be afraid to change it as you go. That's an important lesson in parenting: things rarely go as planned, so go with the flow and keep a sense of humor about your well-laid plans!

Congratulations!

How much did you spend on your newborn for yhe first three months?

Coolchikk

My baby hasnt come yet but I spent 800 on all necessities non were used ,had to get a bassinett though couldnt afford a crib with changer like I so desperately wanted :( a car seat, etc etc im not breastfeeding and I get free formula through wic. Also I didnt get baby monitors. So how much did you spend?

Answer
I would definitely reconsider breastfeeding your baby as it is not only good for your baby, but for your health. Breastfeeding decreases your risk of cervical and breast cancers. I would try and breastfeed. After a couple of times, if it doesn't work for you, then breastfeeding just wasn't meant to be.

Expect to change your baby's diaper around 20 times a day when they are first born. That means you will go through around 30 X 20= 600 diapers a month! I hope you have a lot of diapers stocked up. Don't open the boxes that you won't use right away- you can return them if your baby grows and doesn't fit them anymore.

Did you say that you do not have a car seat? You don't have to get an infant car seat for an newborn. Another option besides infant seats are convertible car seats. You can use a convertible car seat for a newborn provided that the harness is adjusted at or slightly below your baby's shoulders (when rear facing, the harness needs to be adjusted at or below the child's shoulders). The Cosco Scenera is an affordable convertible car seat that goes up to 35 lbs in the rear facing position and has low slots for the harness so that it is likely that it will fit your baby well. It costs around $40 at Walmart. Most babies outgrow their infant car seats with as little as 6 months of use to as much as a 1 year of use, so buying a convertible car seat would be the best option. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends that kids ride rear facing as close to age 4 as possible. They recommend this do to the reasons below:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8gU9zzCGA8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvyIv9QVRBE

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Cosco-Scenera-Convertible-Car-Seat-Renaissance/16932760
Above link: Here is the Cosco Scenera

Most parents don't use the diaper changing station like how they planned. Trust me :)
I always found that it is much less stressful to change a baby on the floor. You don't have to worry about the baby rolling over or falling. Everyone in my family ended up changing their baby on the floor (but this is just my family).

Always buy baby clothes a couple of sizes bigger than what your baby is- your baby will outgrow these rather quickly. This means skip newborn clothes- get 3 month sizes and even a couple sizes bigger than that. (I believe the sizes start at newborn and then skips to 3 months).

Remember that babies just love being loved and cuddled. You can never give your child too much attention.

How do you send internet to other devices, using a computer?

Q. We get internet in one spot in our house with our computer, but I would like to know if there is a way to send it the internet to other devices like home theater systems, and i-pods from the one computer.

Answer
It is possible, however often not cost effective or the best solution.

There are methods such as Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). You can set up ICS on a PC with a Internet connection and connect it to another PC or other device. This requires two network cards in the first PC. The Internet connection can be Ethernet or WiFi. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/using-ics-internet-connection-sharing. This method also requires the first PC to be active any time you need to access the Internet on the second PC.

The best solution for your application is to just add a wireless router. http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=wireless%20router&url=search-alias%3Daps&sprefix=wireless%20ro%2Caps%2C490&tag=excharge-20
This is a efficient way to share a single Internet connection with multiple devices. The router can connect to your devices via Ethernet cables or using WiFi (wireless) connections.

Many people would be likely be surprised at how many active connections their wireless router has. I have dozens. Cell phones, tablets, iPods, game consoles, laptops, desktops, ROKU boxes, Internet enabled devices such as TVs and audio receivers, and the list goes on.

That being said,

Go here http://speedtest.net and test your Internet connection speed.

This is your Internet speed. No wireless router, or connection method can make it any faster.

If you are going to have multiple users or simultaneous devices such s ROKU boxes to do HD streaming such as Netflix, then you'll want a minimum of 10 Mbps or faster.

Your Internet bandwidth is shared among all of the users of your LAN. So any bandwidth others are using will be deducted from the total WAN (Internet) bandwidth that is available to you.

In simple terms, the more users you have the more speed will be required. Streaming video, such as Netflix and Hulu require a lot of bandwidth. Here are the minimum recommendations from Netflix. https://support.netflix.com/en/node/306

The only way to Improve your Internet speed is to upgrade your plan or switch to a faster ISP.

WIRELESS ROUTERS:
Wireless signals are affected by many factors including distance, wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc.

All of these factors will affect your actual wireless range. As wireless connection quality varies the connection speeds are renegotiated. The WLAN connection may start at 150 Mbps and end up at less than 10 Mbps or drop entirely.

2.4 GHz WiFi connections also experience interference from microwave ovens and cordless phones which interfere with the 2.4 GHz band.

Dual band routers have multiple wireless radios enabling broadcast on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands simultaneously. Using the 5 GHz band cuts down on interference from cordless phones and microwave ovens.. Not all devices can use the 5 GHz frequency. Many laptops and other devices only operate at 2.4 GHz. Thus the need for dual band routers.

You should try to centrally locate your wireless router or gateway up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

Your best bet is always a direct Ethernet connection.

Good Luck...

What Is a good Baby Monitor?

Pam

I've been looking on amazon for a baby monitor but it seems like all the reviews i read contradict each other. i was hoping someone could compare the experiences they had with baby monitors and talk about which brands they loved or hated

Answer
Hi Pam,

It depends on your budget and what you want from a baby monitor. Basically there are three ways of monitoring; audio, video, or movement sensing. Generally the cheaper baby monitors are just audio ones, and the more expensive options use video. For under $100, I can recommend the Angelcare Baby Movement and Sound Monitor or for a video monitor, the Levana Jena. For higher end baby monitors, the Samsung SEW-3037W and the Levana Astra are both good choices.

How to fix my new computer Internet?

Emilee

I just got a Samsung Notebook Series 5 and it was a certified open box from Geek Squad which means they made sure everything was working properly before they sold it and when I brought it home and tried to go on the Internet it didn't work. My sister was using the same wifi and her computer was working just fine. So, I went to the control panel and clicked on troubleshooting for the Internet connection and it said there was a broken cable. I don't see any broken cable. It maybe internal in the actual laptop. The only time the Internet works is when I first turn it on and the longer lm on it or the more tabs I open up, the Internet stops working. I already brought it in TWICE to Geek squad and they haven't done sh** to fix it and I'm ready to just get a new computer. It's still within its warranty so they have been looking at it for free and I think that's maybe why they aren't doing anything. -.- I just really want to get it fixed! Can I do anything? Or do I just need a new computer?

Answer
When the computer tells you the cable is broken or disconnected, it is talking about the Ethernet LAN connection not the WiFi connection.

Most laptops have both Ethernet and WiFi adapters.

You could try connecting directly to your wireless router via a Ethernet cable.

You can get a stronger WiFi adapter that will improve your wireless range.

Wireless adapters come in many types and sizes, you may want a model with external antennas. Here is a highly rated USB model with dual antennas. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006JWMOOI/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B006JWMOOI&linkCode=as2&tag=excharge-20

That being said,

Wireless signals are affected by many factors including distance, wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc.

All of these factors will affect your actual wireless range. As wireless connection quality varies the connection speeds are renegotiated. The WLAN connection may start at 150 Mbps and end up at less than 10 Mbps or drop entirely.

Note: The WLAN connection speed is only between the device and the router, you are still limited by your WAN Internet speed provided by your ISP.

Often signal strength (bars) displayed by your device can be misleading, WiFi interference can cause havoc with consistent speed. You can prove this fact by moving your WiFi device closer to the wireless router and retesting the speeds. http://speedtest.net Be sure the wireless router is not close to other electrical equipment that may interfere with the WiFi signal.

You should try to centrally locate your wireless router or gateway up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

For serious gaming or video streaming your best bet is always a direct Ethernet connection. Ethernet is unaffected by wireless interference and will give you a rock solid, stable network connection.

Best place to buy a Bearded Dragon?

best baby monitor to buy 2013 image

Samantha

I've always been interested in buying a Bearded Dragon ever since my friend from long ago had one and allowed me to hold him. I fell in love! In the past I have bought snakes from Petco and a Reptile Store, but I have heard that the best place to buy a reptile is at a reptile show/expo. I heard their reptiles are healthier and that there is a better selection of the reptiles. Is this true? I definitely don't want to buy an unhealthy Bearded Dragon, and I don't want to pay an insane amount for it.

I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma and I believe we have a Reptile Show/Expo a few times a year. So, my main questions are: Where are best places to buy a reptile? What is the typical cost for a baby Bearded Dragon? Thank you.

Answer
We carry them on our website, and visit reptile shows all over the country every year.

Here is a link to check out the beardies we have in stock and to get an idea on price:

Turtle Beach Tango Issue with bluetooth?

Q.

sooo, early this year i bought the Tangos because my old headset was destroyed by my own stupidity.... anyway, now whenever I try to talk in them it you can barely understand me because it comes out in a static sort of sound. The Tangos are new (as i bought them, so 3-5 months old), they've always have worked before today, I have tried "turning it on and off again", I looked at the TB website but their were no listings for this problem, the audio for games and such works fine, I can hear people, I tried to get dust out of the detachable mic part, I think somethings broken but I don't know what part specifically to replace. I figure/hope that the local community here that has a turtle beach or something knows. no other problems, just static when ever my bluetooth is on for it. NOTE: it might have something to due with internet connection as that seems to be going weird lately, due to too many devices on the internet at one time.

Answer
Same here; got tired of the blue masking tape holding my DPX-21's together. The EFT's are a major league upgrade and world of difference.

First, don't discount the obvious; make sure your Chat button settings are on Chat 1 or Chat Main (left earpiece). If that's good, then try flashing the firmware with the latest version (even if you're using the current one). If you've never updated, now's the time.

Make sure the cables on the transmitter are secured properly also.

The mikes on the EFT's are pretty hard to screw up, so I'd be looking at a firmware, software, or setting fix. If you haven't yet downloaded the firmware update, here's what you need to do:

1. Create a TB Community account:

http://www.turtlebeach.com/community/preset-community

2. Download and install the Tango Advanced Sound Editor and User Guide:

http://www.turtlebeach.com/assets/presets/tools/ASE_20130314.zip

http://www.turtlebeach.com/assets/presets/tools/ASE_UserGuide_2013_FINAL.pdf

3. Once installed, connect your EFT headset using the USB data cable (NOT the long power cable; they're marked), then start up the ASE program.

4. Click the “Check for Firmware Updates” button and let it do its thing. The procedure is on page 6 of the ASE user guide.

Lastly, you can't rule out RF interference either. Make sure you haven't added any new electronics near the transmitter unit that can cause RFI; new cordless phone base, microwave (if you're a hardcore gamer), baby monitor, etc. Even a new Router; if you've installed a new Router or bridge, you may need to adjust the Channel frequency band to a higher offset frequency above 2.4ghz, which is what the BT frequency is. Remember, anything that can generate RFI will interfere with a BT transmission.

Worst case, call TB support - they're pretty good about taking care of customers who buy their high-end units. Did you get the freebie TB earbuds a couple of months ago as a bonus?

What Should I Get My Sister For Her Baby Shower?

cece101200

My sister is pregnant with her first child, and despite economic times I really wanted to get her something nice and memorable. I was thinking of a video baby monitor with a camera and television screen, so she could actually see what was going on with her child. I was also thinking of getting her one of those digital video cameras to tape some memories of her kid, parents love that.

I think each gift would be nice, but I don't know what would be a good one for me to get. What do you think would be a good gift?

Answer
Something practical would be nice. Honestly, out of the two options you gave I would go with the latter. I basic monitor works just as well (heck, if she lives in tight quarters, she might not even need one. Believe me, a baby will make sure you can hear it cry). Something like a baby swing would be nice, also. Or a bunch of things she will need like diapers, baby wipes, different baby medicines, etc.

I wanna give birth under water. Is it true that one feels not very much pain or no pain at all?

Answer
Most people find great comfort and repose with water. Perhaps because we begin our lives surrounded in liquid in the womb, this basic familiarity stays with us throughout our lives.

Human beings are comprised primarily of water, and many special characteristics we have link us to aquatic mammals, perhaps carrying the memory of a time when the human species had an “aquatic interlude.” A three-day old fetus is 97 percent water, and at eight months the fetus is 81 percent water. By the time a human has grown to adulthood, the adult body is still 50 to 70 percent water, depending on the amount of fatty tissue.

Human beings’ natural alliance with water is best witnessed in human babies who can swim naturally and easily long before they learn to sit up or crawl. During their first year of life, babies will calmly and happily paddle underwater, gazing around with eyes wide open. When they need to breathe, they naturally paddle toward the surface of the water before taking a breath. Babies instinctively know not to breathe while their heads are still submerged underwater. They wait until they reach the surface of the water before breathing. It seems to be only later that humans lose these instincts and become more prone to drowning.

For thousands of years women have been using water to ease labour and facilitate birth. Wherever there has been even slightly warm water, there have been women bathing in it, using it ritually, and finding great comfort in it, especially in labour.

Soaking in a tub of water to ease labour sounds inviting to most women. If the water is where a woman wants to be and there are no complications, then in the water is where she will feel the most comfortable. When it is time to birth the baby, there is no reason to ask the mother to get out of the water.

When a woman in labour relaxes in a warm tub, free from gravity’s pull on her body, with sensory stimulation reduced, her body is less likely to secrete stress-related hormones. This allows her body to produce the pain inhibitors ‘endorphins’ that complement labour. Noradrenaline and catecholamines, the hormones that are released during stress, actually raise the blood pressure and can inhibit or slow labour.

What is waterbirth?
The act of giving birth in water is so incredibly simple. A mother submerges herself in warm, body temperature water during her labour. If she feels like giving birth in that warm buoyant state, there is no need to ask her to leave the water.

The baby has grown in a fluid environment for the past 9 months. Babies adjust very well to being born in a birth pool. Waterbirth is miraculous.

How long is baby in the water after the birth?
Here in the US, practicioners usually bring the baby out of the water within the first ten seconds after birth. There is no physiological reason to leave the baby under the water for any length of time. There are several water birth videos that depict leaving the baby under the water for several moments after birth and the babies are just fine.

Physiologically, the placenta is supporting the baby with oxygen during this time though it can never be predicted when the placenta will begin to separate causing the flow of oxygen to baby to stop. The umbilical cord pulsating is not a guarantee that the baby is receiving enough oxygen. The safe approach is to remove the baby, without hurrying, and gently place him into his mother’s arms.

What is the temperature of the water?
Water should be monitored at a temperature that is comfortable for the mother, usually between 95-100 Fahrenheit (35C-37.7C). Water temperature should not exceed 101F (or 38C) as it could lead to an increase in the mother’s body temperature which could cause the baby’s heart rate to increase. It is a good idea to have plenty of water to drink and cold cloths for the mother’s face and neck. A cool facial mist from a spray bottle is a welcome relief for some mothers as well.

What prevents baby from breathing under water?
Waterbirth is simple. Within the simplicity of water labour and birth lies a complexity of questions, choices, opinions, research data, women’s experience and practitioner observations.

Over the past five years as more hospitals within the United States examine waterbirth and create programs to support the use of water for labour and birth, newspaper reporters latch onto the sensationalism of this simple option and publish stories of successful waterbirths in local publications. Each reporter does their best to simplify waterbirth and at the same time answer the most common questions. Each story shows a happy beaming mother, a quiet peaceful baby and a proud father, who usually successfully set up a portable birth pool. The surprise headlines like, “watery birth” or “baby’s birth goes swimmingly” or “junior makes a splashy entrance,” are countered with the simple stories of couples who have made this decision for themselves and are proud of it.

Now then, is it my motherboard, cpu, or video card?

Ok, with the help of you guys I have determined that my PSU is fine. I tested it in another computer a little bit weaker than mine. It got everything up and running fine. Next, I tried putting the PSU back in the computer with the possibly fried mobo. This time I took the vid card out and plugged the monitor cable into the onboard video. (I just wanna see the BIOS baby!) Still nothing, the feared "Black screen" of my monitor showing no response to the computer disheartens me. Next I tried putting in a weaker video card into the mobo. Still nothing. Now, if my mobo is fried, it won't utilize the video card and gimme a BIOS output right? Now, the cpu isn't in charge of putting out a video output, so if I take that out and still nothing gives me a BIOS screen then it is my mobo and I should look into purchasing a new one? I have a 2.66ghz cpu, 1gb ram, 2HDDs 100gigs total, DVD+-RW, 256mbRadeon9550 Video Card, 500watt PSU, ATX case, can anyone recommend a cheap (under $100) motherboard?

Answer
to be honest with you since i dont have the pc in my shop its gonna be hard to diagnose but im gonna go out on a limb here and say this.

if you have no screen at all and the computer beeps. then you COULD HAVE a bad monitor or cable or even a bad vid card. however it sould also just be a bad setup in the bios itself. id try to do like the other guy stated. if the computer will show you a bios then try to reset it all back to default.

if all you get is a black screen and no beeps and no lights on the drives at all then dude i hate to tell you this but its time to get a new mobo. that puppy is cooked.
if you get a short beep then long beeps then short again then its the memory most of the time.
a long beeeeeeeeep menas you have a cpu problem(either its cooked or not getting power)
however as i stated if you have no screen at all then more than likely you will need a new mobo.
also please note you may need to dump it all. the mobo the cpu and the memory.
sometimes a bad power supply(or one to small) can cause a computer to work but will slowly kill the thing. for instance if you have a 250 watt psu and runing 2 hdd 1 gig and 2.66 gig chip then its too little
however you stated you have a 500 this should be sufficient for oyur neeeds. id still have it checked out by a pro to see if it has any problems though. it could be a 500 and still be pushing only a limited amount or be getting to hot.

now about a new mobo. id check out tiger direct or global for a cheap one. plenty of stuff for the budget minded that still kick ass.
good luck dude.

We need a safe way to keep her from getting out of bed. She's broken 2 bones in the past 6 months due to getting up at night and slipping on the hardwood floors. Sleeping medication is out of the question, and we already have bed rails, a baby monitor, and motion detector.

Unfortunately in most nursing homes they have to use restraints to prevent elderly people from getting up and injuring themselves.

Is salmonella something i should really be concerned about?

Gigi

I have a baby pet turtle. The other day i was siphoning his tank and i got some water in my mouth. I quickly spit, brushed my teeth, and used mouth wash...but is it possible that this could be a cause of salmonella? I woke up feeling sick. I've had diarrhea and continuous stomach pain. That's it though. Should i be really concerned and go to the hospital?

Answer
Turtles very often carry Salmonella. Usually, Salmonella does go away on its own though, so give yourself some time. And very often it is not treated with antibiotics even if you do go to a doctor.

Occasionally though, the Salmonella infection is severe and sometimes people do wind up in the hospital (usually the elderly or the very young).

Monitor how you are feeling and if it lasts longer than a few days or you develop blood in the stool, then go see a doctor.
