Mrs.

I'm talking about things that the baby likes, or things that make life more convienent. Not MUST haves, but things you really like having.

Answer
well, u can go to babies r us website and they have a list for ppl who are going to register..of course it has a lot of things on there that you don't need, but if you weed through you can get what you need out of it...the things i liked;found most useful, etc......

.i would def recommend:
a diaper genie 2; idk why ppl don't like them, there is NO smell in my dd 's room
changing table..will save your back, good for diap changes, clothes changes, sponge baths, etc and you have shelves to store your new baby must haves....i have canvas bins on the shelves to store things that are good to have in reach or easily available...
monitor--i like the graco imonitor, recently bought a second one for another room in the house bc i liked the other one so much, it has been working well for over 8 mos now, and it has good range, battery life, and i can hear EVERYTHING; never any interference....it works great..
boppy pillow with cotton covers, soft ones don't fit as well for some reason
lots of baby hangers, and baby hangers with clips to keep outfits together
primo euro bathtub
prince lionheart diaper depot and wipewarmer; ours works well and the wipes are still very warm when we get them to out dd's bottom; and she doesn't freak out when we are out and they aren't warmed, but seems to appreciate it when they are..
health kit: brush, comb, thermometer (not an ear one, not as accurate), nail clippers, etc.
baby meds, generic is just as good and a lot cheaper...desitin(or plain zinc oxide if you can find it)..not creamy, has less zinc ox in it....infant mylicon and tylenol
lots of diapers , make sure wherever you buy them will let you exchange them for a diff size if you need to even after the return period...brus let me do that, and buy a small pack of a couple brands to see which you prefer before you open the big boxes...wipes, lots of them, without alcohol or fragrance! we use swaddlers diapers and pampers sensitive wipes; no rashes, no reactions to their ingredients, diapers hold a lot when they have too and the netting tends to keep the wet off her bottom...
lots of baby washclothes, you may have to use them on baby's bum if it is really sensitive and gets a rash....and baby towels, but you could use your reg towels if money is an issue

swing, pref swings two ways and plugs in instead of batteries
bouncy seat
infant travel system! easy, easy, easy--we got the graco tour deluxe; it is great, folds with one hand, several seating positions, lays flat for sleep; has a big basket underneath and cup holders for mom and dad, one for baby , place for snacks for baby, and a 'pocket' up top for keys, cell phone, whatever you wanna put there...
play yard, get one with bassinet feature if you want to, easier to keep baby in your room for a while before putting them in crib in their room=we have chicco discovery and it is awesome, has more padding than most, easy to wash..machine wash, most are wipe down...very sturdy, has nightlight, vibration, etc and a flip up change table, has wooden slats that slide in under mattress for support...not that much more exp than the others and much better in my opinion
passys--she loves soothies and that is all she will take..
baby wash, again frag free, dye free
frag free , dye free laundry detergent
clothes hamper or basket
lingerie bag for socks, mittens, anything little so they don't get lost in the wash...
something to put baby toys in
extra toy links
lullaby cd and small cd player; my dd has come to love white noise, she naps with a fan and a womb bear; sleeps at night with a fan....
oh, mosquito cover for your infant carrier..it's where you can see in , baby can see out, but strangers cant just walk up and touch your baby, and they will!!!!!
all i can come up with now...LOL
diaper bags; big one for everything you may need, leave in car unless you will be somewhere a long time, and a small one to stick what you will need for a short run in so you don't have to haul the bigger one

if ffing:
avent formula dispenser; has better review than the ones made by sassy, and convert to a snack cup later...i loved it so much i bought a second one!
bottles--really liked playtex ventaire advanced when she was young, more pieces but it's easy to get them clean when the top and bottom comes off...and they vent through the bottom instead of the nip so no bubbles or foam going back up into baby's milk; they will leak if you don't put them together correctly, but we have had no probs with them and have never had to replace any parts on them..if u decide on them and have leaks, email me and i will explain how to keep them from leaking...:O)
bottle and nip brushes--i really like the ones by munchking that don't have a sponge on the end of the brush, they come in diff colors mixed with white and have a great nip brush in the handles....
drying racks--again, i really like munchkins...
formula mixer: i like dr brown's formula pitcher bc you don't shake it it is only abo

What baby items did you find to be the most & least useful?

Malia's Mo

We just spent 2 hours in Babies R Us registering for my baby shower and we have over 200 items. I know I'm not going to get everything, and it was mainly just to show various gift options, but what items are absolute musts and what items can wait? This is my first baby so I haven't been able to test anything out yet. Thank you! =)

Aware of Phillips model. Wondering if there is one that is not so expensive.

Answer
I have a Fisher Price 900 MHZ and we have a wifi network and have zero interference.

What we have is very similar to this, but it's a couple of years old: http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/601-6545658-9279309?ASIN=B000I5RF8C&AFID=Froogle&LNM=B000I5RF8C|Long_Distance_900MHz_Baby_Monitor&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=B000I5RF8C&ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001

Is it true people with scanners can hear you on a cordless phone?

Michelle S

Someone told me that cordless phones aren't good to talk on because people with scanners can hear your private conversations. Is this true? Are there any cordless phones that are safe? What about cell phones? Can a scanner hear you on your cell phone too?

Answer
I will expand on the answer given by "silence.." above.

Early cordless phones used analog signals on the 49mHz band and could easily be intercepted by most scanning receivers and by some "baby monitors" that shared the same frequencies.

A little later, cordless phones came out that were on the 900mHz band but still used analog signals. A more expensive type of scanning receiver was required to listen to this band, but it could still be done.

Most newer cordless phones use digital signals and operate on much higher freqency bands. The digital signal must be "decoded" in order to be listened to and this is beyond the capabilities of the average person. While it would be possible for a highly-skilled person to intercept your call, the chances of this happening are remote.

Early cellular phones were also analog and could also be listened to using a scanning receiver, but it was much more difficult as cell signals are constantly switching between towers. You could listen to pieces of different conversations, but it was difficult to stay with any one conversation, and trying to listen to a specific person was nearly impossible.

To prevent people from listening to cell phones, Congress passed a law saying that scanning receivers had to be "blocked" so that they couldn't listen to cell frequencies. The problem with this law was that thousands of "unblocked" receivers were already in use, and that most "blocked" receivers could easily be "unblocked" by simply changing some wiring.

The good news is that, all of the newer cell phones are now digital, and like digital cordless phones, can't be listened to by the average person. There are still some analog cell phones in use (mostly in very rural areas), but effective February of 2008, these will be discontinued.

So, in the case of both the cordless phone and the cell phone, unless you are using very old equipment, you can be fairly sure that it cannot be listened to by the average person with a scanner.

How would enforcing immigration laws effect the economy?

Answer
We are already seeing the effects on businesses with the immigration raids, and this will also affect the economy and the prices of your products. Businesses cannot find replacement for their workers. Citizens keep saying that their jobs were stolen, and that they will work the jobs if the wages where better, but the wages are not the issue. They just don't want to do the work illegals do! some farm workers can make up to $16.59/hr on a piece rate, but that means you have to bust your butt to make that much. Illegal immigrants are consumers to! they buy houses, cars, food, cloths, electronics, and the list goes on. They contribute Billions into the economy and pay Billions in Taxes. Without them, the US would be Billions poorer. Farms are either shutting down, or planning to move to Mexico where the labor force is without immigration issues.

http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/33418.html
Even after offering higher wages, many farms still do not have enough workers to bring the crops in, The Christian Science Monitor reports.

http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2008/apr/14/immigrants-boost-economy-how-much/
Aguero says there’s “no question” the issue needs to be looked at. “They’re an essential element to an essential part of our economy — and maybe multiple parts of our economy,” he said.

http://www.ksbw.com/money/14420595/detail.html
Maureen Torrey, an 11th-generation farmer in the rural town of Elba, N.Y., has been losing sleep. Just as rows of cabbage and winter squash stand ready for harvest on her 11,000 acre farm, she can't find enough workers to bring in the crops.

http://www.totalimmigrationlaw.com/articles-economy-benefits-of-illegals.asp
Anti-immigration activists seem to overlook some of the obvious ways that American people benefit from illegal immigrants who work in the United States. Some of the most obvious ways in which illegal immigrants help the U.S. economy are:

Illegal immigrants living in the U.S. are also consumers in the U.S. and therefore boost the economy.

Many illegal immigrants who work in the U.S. do not file tax returns because they fear deportation and therefore do not collect tax refund payments that they are entitled to receive.

Social Security payments are not made to illegal immigrants. Therefore the money that is paid into the Social Security system by illegal immigrants supports payments to American baby boomers who are now reaching retirement age. Illegal immigrants may be a large factor in keeping the Social Security system afloat.

Why is my wireless adapter limiting my download speed?

Aaron Cost

When my router is plugged VIA Ethernet, I can get download speeds of 62,000 kbps (7.2Mb/s) and this result was supplied by multiple online download speed testers, and is true.

However, because I'm being forced into using a wireless adapter (Realtek RTL8187B 802.11g 54Mbps) and then my download speed is 6000 kbps, my connectivity to it is Excellent and it reports good signal strength... The 54Mbps cap is enough for 62,000 kbps.

I'm so annoyed, frustrated and confused.

Should I buy a new wireless adapter that is not a USB one? Is there a setting I need to change...?

Answer
Well, 802.11g is half duplex, meaning only one device can communicate at a time. Because of this (and a few other factors) 802.11g is only usually less than 50% efficient. So if your data rate is 54 Mbps, then you can expect an actual through of around 27 Mbps (or less). That would be 3 MBps. You also have to factor in the number of connected devices. Also 54 Mbps is only ~55,000 Kbps so you wouldn't get your 62k with it anyways..

WiFi is a shared medium, so if anything else is connected, that will decrease the available bandwidth to the device. Devices operating on the same channel will create interference which will also decrease performance. Microwaves, baby monitors, and other WiFi networks on the same channel will cause interference. Try to stay away from non-WiFi devices you are try to use the network and they are operational. Also, if their are other wireless networks near you, make sure you are operating on a different, non-overlapping channel.

Also, take into account the quality of the router. Some consumer grade devices aren't very at forwarding packets, so even though they report they support a certain data rate doesn't mean they will forward data at full line rate. Only way to test this is to try connecting to someone else's WiFi with a similar Internet bandwidth but a different router. If you get better performance there, its possible your router sucks.

I need to purchase a baby monitor soon, and would like to hear some pros and cons. I am really liking the idea of the type with camera and monitor to actually 'watch' the baby too, but what brands are best? Thanks for any advice!

Answer
i have the Angelcare Deluxe Movement Monitor and it is the most amazing thing ever it tells you the temp in babys room has a night light and monitors babys breathing and if there is none for 15sec a warning beep goes off and after 20 the thing goes crazy. I love it. I dont worry about sids and have been able to sleep much more then with my 1st.

look at this http://www.angelcare-monitor.com/english/hispeed/intro.html
it lets you kind of demo it online.

What baby monitor do you recommend?

J D

We are shopping for a baby monitor for our second child (our first is 6 now so we long ago got rid of her baby things). We plan to "room in" (have baby in our room in a pack n' play) for the first 6 months or so like we did with our daughter, so this monitor will be used primarily during naps and after the baby has passed the most critical SIDS risk phase. With that in mind, which monitor would you suggest and why? TIA!

Answer
I use a motorola video baby monitor and its quite great. It's night vision is pretty good.

I've noticed a lot of new accounts here. Looks like the regs are getting taken over by 'newbies'. You were probably reported, which seems odd because all the newbies are trolls.

I want to use my cell phone with my laptop as a baby monitor for my newborn so that I can set the laptop up with the webcam on the baby & then I can watch it on my cell phone. Something similar to Skype but not Skype because it won't work with my phone. At least I can't figure out how to. Thanks!

Answer
gmail has video chat similar to skype. but then like skype, you'd still have to teach your baby to hit the "accept call" button when you call into your laptop.

Why does WIFI lose quality and speed the longer you stay on?

secret_asi

Seriously, I'm computer retarded and just wondering why it does that. It goes from 54mb/sec to 10 or less sometimes.

Answer
If you speed is dropping then it is nothing to do with how long you have been connected it must be down to another problem.

Generic advice for improving wif reception [you give no info on the router or what device you are connecting with]

To start with the basic rule is to position the wifi router as high and as centrally as possible in your house.

1] Try changing the broadcast channel from the wireless setup interface for your router/modem.You can normally access this by typing "http://192.168.0.1/" into your browsers search bar and then look for the wireless settings menu.
You don't say if your router can use the 5GHz frequency or just the 2.4GHz. The best channels in the 2.5GHz spectrum are 1,6, 11, or 13 as they have less overlap with the other channels.

There is a useful article here about how to get the best performance by selecting the best channel.: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/21132/cha…

If you have an android smarthphone, or a friend does, then install the Wifi Analyzer app free from android market and use it to scan for the best channel and change your routers broadcast channel accordingly. This app will aslo show you all the wifi signals in range that your neighbours are using, so you can select a different channel to them, making a stronger signal for you. https://market.android.com/details?id=co…

2] You can use a tool like Nirsofts totally free WirelessNet View to look at all the local wireless signals that are within range and may be competing with your own router and interfering with reception. from here: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/wireless_ne…

3] You can buy a Wi-Fi booster like D-Link 645 Smartbeam, here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/D-Link-DIR-645-W…
Devices such as these can actually boost the wifi signal by using multiple beams that bounce of the walls and are intelligently directed toward whatever device [smarhphone, laptop, tablet] you are using on wifi.

4] If your using the 2.4GHz frequency and not the 5GHz then other devices that use this frequency band can alsso interfere with your reception [eg baby monitors and microwave ovens use 2.4GHz]. Try and make sure that none of these devices are situated between your router and your wifi receiver eg laptop, tablet, smarthphone etc

Can someone use a video baby monitor to see inside my apartment?

best baby monitor for apartments image

paparazzi_

I have a video baby monitor that has excellent range, but it got me thinking, couldn't someone buy the same monitor and switch to the same channel and see inside my apartment if they wanted to?

I have the "Summer Infant Day & Night Handheld Color Video Monitor" and I know it can work with an extra camera (if I bought one)... so in theory, couldn't that work for my neighbors too?

Answer
It may be possible my sister discovered she has the same baby monitor as her neighbour. One night she just put my niece to bed went and layed down and went to sleep. She woke up a few hours later by this time is was about 1am and her husband was in bed as well now. When all of a sudden she heard a low man laugh coming from the monitor she woke up her husband half screaming and told him to get the baby. He got up realising something was wrong and ran into the nursery and picked up my niece and bought her into their bedroom. They couldn't find the source of the noise and so the baby was in her room for the rest of the night. Then my brother-in-law was talking to them the next morning and they discovered they have the same baby monitor and they can hear them sometimes too and they freaked out when they first discovered it. I'm guesssing that the video one's though would be different because they have the camera but anything is possible, perhaps you could ring the company and ask them about it.

What kinds of baby monitors are available for deaf parents?

candy177

I've looked a little bit online and found a monitoring system where you basically hook your whole house into this receiver (phone, doorbell, alarm clock, baby monitor etc) that comes with light functions and a vibrating disk to put under the mattress. The baby monitor is sold separately and can be hooked up either way also. Together, all of this costs about $225-250. Do they have cheaper systems? In the 2 years that my husband and I have been together, we've never really seen the need to get anything like this for the phone and such...and since we have an apartment, we don't have a doorbell anyway.

Reason being - my husband is hearing impaired and we're thinking of having a baby in the next year and a half or so...I just want to be prepared. :) I don't think the little Fisher Price monitors that vibrate would be strong enough to wake him if I was at work...

I found it particularly hard to get back into riding after my twins. I was fine for the initial 3 months and bought a new dressage horse and was even back having lessons.

Unfortunately one had a brain haemorrhage and I was not able to ride for virtually 2 years. We live on our own large property and my horses are at home with me. However I have no family support near by (we are in a rural area) or anyone that can watch my children for me to ride.

Once I had made my decision to get back in the saddle on a regular basis, I needed to find a way to make it work without inconveniencing my husband too much as he is busy on the farm.

I took one of the paddocks right beside my house and turned it into an arena. This way I was close enough to the house that the baby monitor worked. I have one with a LCD screen and sound, so I never missed anything and could literally get off the horse and into the house in the time it would take someone to get up the stairs. A 2 hour nap was plenty of time to ride.

I built a child proof pool fence play area between my house and arena. I could watch them play while I was riding and they could sit there if they wished and watch me riding. A great way to desensitize a horse to trampolines and other child noises ;-)

As the girls got older it certainly got easier when they were going to school. Although I still have one at home during the day, one child is easier for hubby to take in the tractor or for me to arrange to ride on days he is doing work he can have a toddler with him in safety.

I'm counting down to next year because she will be in preschool and I will be able to have regular set lesson days (unless kids are sick).

~ My main way of being out with the horses with only one child (way too hard with twins) is to get the 3yo involved also. If I'm leading horses I throw her on top of the quietest one (with a helmet), she comes with me to rug and unrug twice a day and when my older girls are riding I put her on the Shetland so she is apart of the action also.

You have not said how old your children are? If they are older then get some lessons for them also, it is lovely to ride with your children. If they are younger and you don't have someone to mind them, then leave them in the pram at the gate. I spent many hours at the gate of the dressage arena while my mum was riding.

My mum rode with all 3 of us kids and never missed a beat in competition (eventing). Dad was a truck driver so he did not mind us much. She either had us in the pram at the gate or on the front of the saddle with quieter horses. We were all 5 years apart, so she got one child off to school and then had the next one arrive ;-)

If your riding at a lesson school, I would seriously ask the people if they had someone available to watch your children while you had a 30 minute lesson. You pay the staff member for their time, it should only be their hourly wage and would not be much. Any smart business person would do this on a fortnightly or monthly basis until your kids are at school. They get business and have not lost money if you have paid the staff member. Worth a shot!

If you don't have support and are riding at a place that wont allow you to have the child on site. Don't forget about community based programs for child care. There are a few around that will offer parents respite care for people with multiple children, children with disabilities or single parents. I don't know if any of those fit your situation, but it is worth looking what is available in your area.

Last but not least, ask hubby for some "me" time. I'm happier when I'm physically active and riding. It keeps me strong physically and mentally. The benefits run right through the family home when your feeling good about yourself and fulfilled.

Good luck ;-)

Is it really necessary to go to the hospital to get a baby delivered?

Nathan

It's so expensive and babies were delivered at the home for thousands of years. It's really just the past 70 years (if that ) when pregnant woman rushed to the hospital when their water broke. Can't I just get a book or watch some youtube videos and save the money for a vacation or something?
I'm not broke. I have a good job and drive a 2013 Armada. I don't like waste money.

Answer
My daughter is the most important person in my life. I would do anything for her well being and would spend all my money on her without questions asked. And I would never do home birth in my life if I was to have more children and I gave birth to my daughter as well in a large hospital. When my GP asked me about where I wanted to give birth I told him I wanted to do it in the best equipped hospital possible with emergency unit for newborns, just in case. And the reason for this was that not all births are easy. Sometimes something goes wrong and if the birth wasn't done in the hospital it could be dangerous for the baby or the mum. In developing countries, where women give birth at home 1 in 12 women die in childbirth, that is just far too many. So I consider myself lucky that I can go to the hospital and do it with the best professionals helping me all the way through and monitoring my baby all the way as well. Who would you spend your money on if not on the ones you love. Spending money on the safety of your wife and baby is not wasting money. It is money spent well.

Numbness in my arms. What is wrong with me?

Svan

I'm taking 200mg Labetolol 1-0-1 for high blood pressure. My current BP reading is 145/86. Heart rate is 53. I've been experiencing numbness in both my arms upto the fingertips for about 3 weeks now. It lasts for sometime and seems to go away if I do some exercises. I don't know why it is happening. Is anything wrong with me?

My 2 month old baby is on apnea monitor and the "slow heart rate" indicator keeps beeping (just 1-2 beeps). Is something wrong with my baby? What should I do?
I have an appointment with the doctor t'row. I just wanted to see if anyone had experienced something like this before and what they did to make it go away.

Answer
You should probably consult a real doctor instead of asking a bunch of Yahoos(tm) what they THINK is safe for you and your child.

God help your baby if that's how you take care of him/her.

I have seen articles and reports that T-Mobile will carry apple products in the new year (2013). When can I expect to see the iphone 5 on T-Mobiles network?

thanks

Answer
I let my friend (coworker) who owns an iPhone 5 use my Note 2 just to compare, and showed him how to use it.

I then asked him why people prefer iPhone 5 over the customization that Android gives. He had no answer to that (he did attempt to say that the iPhone was simpler to use, and I described that the it was true that even babies could use the iPhone, but the Android only takes a day to customize to ones wants and needs), just that he never knew Android had gotten so good. He then offered to trade me his iPhone 5 and a gaming screen he had previously used for his triple monitor setup. I stoutly declined.

This sounds like I'm just trying to spite you because even if the events that I have just tried to describe are false (and they are not), they are impolite.

So I won't educate you on the benefits of the Note 2, and Android as an OS, and why I'm not here to start a war, but merely to inform you that iPhone is definitely starting to fall off as a feature full phone every generation. Every generation, the iPhone is declining. I won't speak of it anymore, and just try answering your question without killing myself over how much a tech geek like me needs to tell you how much better Android is. All you have to do is research and use google anyway if you wanted to know, right?

So about iPhone on T-mobile. You probably won't be seeing the iPhone 5 likely appear in next month. After that, they will be very eager to get the iPhone 5 if they truly are considering offering the iPhone 5 (they already offer the Galaxy Note 2, though... OOPS what am I saying?!?!). So around 3-4 months? Yep very likely.

But don't buy a phone on a contract. You will end up paying more. Do you wonder why contracts lock you in and lower the price on phones? It's not really because they want you to stay (well yes they do), but that they gain a better profit anyway. They lock you into a plan that is very bad compared to prepaid plans so every month you will be shelling out tons more money for tons less service. Let's say you pay $90 every month for the same service you get at $49... There you go. 2 year contract = 12+12 = 24 x 40 = 960. You will be shelling out an extra $960 along with the small fee you payed with the phone when you signed your contract ($200 maybe?).

See, I'm just trying to educate you on what choice you should take: prepaid.

Prepaid? Look at Straight Talk, Solavei, T-mobile Prepaid (hidden because they like you using contracts), there are many great options. Check them out.

Best place to buy a Bearded Dragon?

Samantha

I've always been interested in buying a Bearded Dragon ever since my friend from long ago had one and allowed me to hold him. I fell in love! In the past I have bought snakes from Petco and a Reptile Store, but I have heard that the best place to buy a reptile is at a reptile show/expo. I heard their reptiles are healthier and that there is a better selection of the reptiles. Is this true? I definitely don't want to buy an unhealthy Bearded Dragon, and I don't want to pay an insane amount for it.

I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma and I believe we have a Reptile Show/Expo a few times a year. So, my main questions are: Where are best places to buy a reptile? What is the typical cost for a baby Bearded Dragon? Thank you.

Answer
We carry them on our website, and visit reptile shows all over the country every year.

Here is a link to check out the beardies we have in stock and to get an idea on price:

What is the best option for removing stretch marks?

best baby monitor for your buck image

Knock On M

A friend called me today asking me about the best option for removing stretch marks. In fact, she gave birth to a baby girl less than one month ago and now she is concerned about the marks that are on her abdomen.

I know that there are hundreds of products on the internet, but we don't know which one to choose. Please let me know if some one has used a specific brand and it has proved beneficial?

Thank you,

Answer
Dear,

There are a few ways to do it, either you can use the DIY method or try those proven treatment creams out on the market.

Try to massage the area with the stretch marks about three or four times a day with moisturizers that contain cocoa butter or shea butter as a prime ingredient. This hydrates the skin, making it more pliant. Again, this is most effective only in the initial stage.

If your stretch marks are already pass the initial stage (when they are red, purple, pink, or brown, depending on the color of your skin) and become white or silver (usually with deep indentation), then it would be far more difficult to minimize them, but not entirely impossible to "remove" them. But before you begin searching for these treatments, try to read more information on these topical treatments first.

Many are advertised to "repair" stretch marks, but few have actually been proven to be effective. Here's some that are available on the market:

a) Wheat germ oil - may help improve stretch marks in their early phase.

b) Glycolic acid - increases collagen production; can be administered in higher doses by a dermatologist (usually costs a few hundred bucks and requires a few visits before you see results)

c) Vitamin C - certain formulations might increase collagen production, but they'll only help with early-stage stretch marks; for best results, combine with glycolic acid.

d) Relastin - the effectiveness of this product is unknown and unverified.

e) Peptide-containing products - these "repair" creams are ineffective; there's no evidence that they work.

f) Retinoids - they're fairly effective in increasing collagen and elastic production in the early stages, but they should be avoided if you're pregnant or nursing; they're more effective when used in combination with glycolic acid.

I would recommend treatments that are using "100% natural ingredients" such as aloe vera. Aloe vera has been shown in clinical studies to have a positive effect on wound healing and holds anti-inflammatory properties.

As stretch marks start out as microscopic tears in skin layers due to overstretching of the dermis, aloe vera helps heal these small wounds without causing scar tissue to form, effectively preventing the appearance of stretch marks. Aloe vera has been used for thousands of years by the Egyptians, Romans, Greeks, Arabs, Indians and Chinese to decrease the appearance of scars and to moisturize and heal skin. The extracts from the aloe leaf protects skin from environmental factors and promotes skin regeneration. My friend recommended me this and I have been using for a few weeks now, have shown some positive results but I am monitoring the progress. since the product have a 90 days return policy.

Should I upgrade my computer or can you give me tips?

Dylan

I've been having issues with my computer for awhile as far as gaming goes. I bought my computer strictly for gaming purposes, but I'm having issues with all of my games. V-sync is my main issue, because with it off the screen tears terribly and with it on there is very slow mouse lag. I want to call the guy who made my computer and ask him, but doesn't know much about gaming. What I need to know is if something in my computer may need an upgrade because it might be conflicting with the graphics card. Anyway I'd really like if you could answer this with detail, because I've already asked this many times and most of the answers are very unhelpful and conflicting. Computer Specs below.
Graphics: ASUS Nvdia Geforce GTX 660
Ram: 8gb DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 PC3-12800, DDR3 PC3-14900, DDR3 (non-ECC)
Processor: AMD A8-3870 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics 2.99GHz
Motherboard: msi A7MA-G55
Monitor: 1600 x 900 60hz
Power Supply: 550W
Hard Drive: 1T
Internet Speed: 8063 Kbps / 1147 Kbps
IOS: Windows 7 Ultimate

Answer
There are several issues w/ v-sync. First off is that the higher the frame rate the better the mouse response even if that frame rate is higher than the monitors refresh rate. Once you enable v-sync the computer keep the frame rate at speeds that can be multiplied into 60 using whole numbers. That means 15, 20, 30, or 60FPS(40 might be possible to but I dont remember.. If you keep dipping below 60 you will hit the 30cap or 40 if it exists.

What you should try right away is turning off v-sync then go into the nvidia control panel and force adaptive v-sync. It will enable v-sync at 60fps but disable it when under 60fps. This will keep you from getting screwed into a 30fps speed.

There may be some tearing at low frame rates but should be minimal.

All those v-sync modes work by dropping frames so your card is doing the work of a higher frame rate but then having frames discarded to ensure it can easily be synced with the 60Hz refresh rate of your monitor.

If you are going to upgarde anything it needs to be your video card. The 660 is not an enthusiast card. Get a amd 7950 at the least or a 7970 or gtx670 or gtx680.

You can sell your current card to recoup some cash. I am a nvidia fan and at the time I bought my gtx670 it was a better performer per dollar than what AMD offered but now the tables are turned. AMD offers the best bang for the buck by far. A 7950 will eat yout card for a late night snack.

The rest of the system is great. If you have not overclocked your processor than do so now. A 20% boost should be as easy as stealing candy from a baby cat that doesn't like candy. You can certainly get more than that but surely 20% is stupid easy.

Hope this helps

------
Also in response to the Intel recommendation and hd recommendation those guys don't need to be spending anymore time in the computer section answering questions.

you already stated the issue v-sync or tearing so checking your HD is just silly. As for the Intel bit the 3rd gen i7 is the last 1155 chip so any i5 chip and board you buy now will not be able to be upgraded at all n the future.

I have a i5 3570k at 4.5GHz and a GTX670 that is overclocked to get about 20% more performance and even that struggles at 2560x1440p resolutions. At 1600x900 there would be no problems.

Also a few other things DO NOT use anti aliasing except for fxaa and txaa. MSAA is to demanding for that video card and will severally reduce frames rates. Disable motion blur as it reduces frame rates and the quality of the scene. In nvidia control panel turn on anisotropic sample optimization, set texture filtering quality to high performance, enable trilinear optimization, turn on triple buffering and set vertical sync to adaptive.

Try the game with the trilinear optimization on and off and see if you notice a difference. Also find out if your monitor can be overclocked and if so by how much. If you can get your monitor to run at 75hz that will increase your mouse performance quite a bit with vsync on. If you can hit 90 even better.

Good luck and sorry about all the idiots. You wont get a better answer than this one on this site.

all of the sudden my iphone 4s acts like there is no wifi connection at my house. when i first get home it works for a while, then shuts off, and turns on for a minute, and then stays off. i've tried resetting the network settings and it's not the internet because i'm on my laptop right now. i tried shutting my phone off and on. this is really frustrating because i get zero cell phone service, so i can't just use 3G. I really need help. please & thank you!

Answer
Wants to tell you that the Wireless signals are effected by by many factors including distance, wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc. Your latency (ping) may be 30 ms and wireless interference could cause it to spike to 200 ms or more. Must be you use to sit far away from you wireless router.

For this the solution is that you should try to centrally locate your wireless router gateway up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

usually how much does a baby cost during the first year?

1313

Answer
Depends if you include the set up costs. If you include things like a crib, stroller, bathtub, towels, cloth diapers (should you use them), wetbags (for cloth diapers), change table, ....etc.. then it can be quite $$ If you don't then it's not too bad as long as you breastfeed.

Here is what we paid for things (and we did NOT go expensive!!)

Crib (plain - is not convertible) - $200
Organic mattress - $120
Stroller (given to us as a gift from family) - $600
Car seat (convertible rear-facing to front facing) - $300
Change table (second hand) - $30
Cloth diapers (all brand new but you can find used on various sites) - $400
wetbags for diapers - $20
Throw rug for nursery - $20 (Ikea has good cheap stuff!)
Crib sheets (3 sheets) - $30
**I did not buy a crib set as it's a waste of money - can't use the blanket anyway since it's a suffocation hazard and they recommend that you not use the bumper pads).
Change pad for change table (gift from family) - $50
Change pad covers (x2) - $30
Face cloths (Ikea) - $10
Hooded baby towels (second hand) - $5
Breast pump (manual) - $90
bottles and nipples - $20 (We don't have many since I almost only breastfed but sometimes my husband gave him a bottle of breastmilk)
Baby bathtub (gift from family) - $15
Large receiving blankets (shower gifts) - $50
Bassinet and sheets (bought off a friend) - $10
Swing - free from friend (these can cost a lot!!)
Playmat with dangling toys - free from friend
Highchair - free from friend (although these can cost up to $200)
Clothing - I bought all second hand except a few items - $150 for the whole year, including winter jumpers and toques, mitts..etc. I also got a lot of hand-me-downs from friends and new items at the baby shower
Moby wrap (shower gift) - but they usually cost $40
Boba 3G carrier - $120
Suze's kindercoat - $150 (so I could carry my son on my back during the winter)
Burt's bees soap - $9.00/bottle (about 6 bottles/year, if that)
bum cream - $10/year (although my little guy didn't get rashes really)
wipes - $80/year
Baby food - this starts at 6 months old and it can be about $50-70 a month because you're trying new foods that they may or may not take LOL
Rattles and teethers - $30
Sippy cups - $25/year
baby cutlery/bowls - $20
bibs - I only bought kushies nylon ones so I could wash them in the sink after each meal - $20
Big toys (like the fisher price kitchen, piano, story chair..etc - I got used) - $120
Books (used and new) - $100 (we started to read to him very early)
playpen (I bought used) - $40
Blankets - free from baby shower
rocking chair for the nursery - second hand - $5
Tylenol/gripe water/steamer...etc - $50
monitor - $40 (I didn't get the video monitor)
Crib mobile - $35
small stereo for nursery (to play nursery rhymes) - $30

I can't think of anything else but I am sure there were other things! It can be REALLY expensive if you choose to make it so or it can be quite cheap! Don't forget that a lot of stuff you get from your baby shower (as long as you have one). Buying second hand stuff is often the best way to go, except car seats - never buy used carseats since you don't know if they've been in an accident or not (once they are in an accident they must be thrown away). There have also been recalls on cribs, toys, stroller..etc so you have to check to see if there are recalls on anything before purchasing from people.

I'm due in October and am just looking for a baby monitor. I have read that the Tommee Tippee and Angelcare (not sure which models) both with sensor pads, and the BT 150 are good. I'm not sure about the sensor pads, I have heard they give a lot of false alarms, plus I don't want to be too paranoid. I know they can be useful for premature babies or those with health conditions, but what about full term healthy babies, is there any need?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
If you are already a worrier the more things your monitor "checks", the more things you're going to worry about. When the breathing monitor isn't going off you'll wonder if it's really working, with video you'll spend your day watching the monitor.

I would suggest a good quality audio monitor with 2 receivers. What will work best for you depends on where you live, in an apartment complex, a house, near an airport...etc.

If you don't have to worry about interference then a model like the Fisher Price "Lights and Sounds" is a great choice. Always rated highly and about $40. It's the model I've used for over 3 years with no problems. If intereference could be a problem, skip the 900 MHz models and go with one in the 2.45 a 2.54 GHz range. The prices are almost the same, and with the 2.xx GHz models you're pretty much guaranteed no interference.

A couple of good choices in that range are the First Years "True Choice digital monitor" ($80), and the Graco "I-vibe" ($90). Both have 2 receivers so you can leave one in your bedroom, and have one to carry around.

Hope this helps,

Alan

37 weeks pregnant - blood pressure question?

Sarah B &

I'm 37 weeks today, and have suffered with high blood pressure all the way through this pregnancy starting at 8 weeks when i went to hospital with severe headaches and blurred vision - my bp was about 160/100 then and the drs were in 2 minds whether to medicate or not but decided not to and just to monitor me more closely tham a normal pregnancy.

My bp has remained continously around 140-150 over 80/90 since then, and the midwifes always comment at every appointment that it is high, but never seem to do anything about it - just record in my notes that it is high. I have an appointment today and i am going to ask how high it has to go before they will do anything as i am worrying myself that i'm going to develop pre-eclampsia or something. The highest it has been in the last few weeks is 159/90. My sister in law is also a nurse and she is surprised that my midwives haven't suggested inducing me now i am full-term?

Anyone have experience of high bp at 37 weeks? What ended up happening? Do you think induction is a possibility if my bp stays up like this or is 159/90 not that high?

Thankyou xx

Answer
a am surprised that they are not monitoring u more closely!? my blood pressure started to creep up in the last few weeks and the one time my GP got a High reading..like yours she brought me back later that day to make sure it went down otherwise she was going sending me straight to the hospital! but honestly the only treatment for it (without meds) is lot s of rest!!!i know ur nesting Instinct is prob going mad and u wanna clean and organise everything in prep for ur baby...but u really need to rest...sit wit ur feet up as much as possible! at ur next hospital appointment they may well do a membrane sweep to try kick u into labour...uncomfortable but may well work!they did one on me at 37 weeks bt didn't work...she stuck in there and arrived exactly on her due date!! maybe suggest this to them!? share u concerns with ur doctor and see wat they re thinking...don't stress it wil only make it worse!!!!! you will need all your energy for labour, so get lots of rest!
it will settle down and go back to normal shortly after birth!
take care and good luck cause itall happens so fast!!!
