Where should a newborn baby sleep?

Captain

I wanted to get your opinion on where the baby should sleep, and why.

I feel like the baby should sleep in his/her room, with a baby monitor, so he/she grows accustom to it. Sure, it probably is a pain to get up and walk down the hall a few times a night. But doesn't it promote better sleeping habits?

My boyfriend thinks he/she should sleep in the room with us, in a bassinet, so he/she is close to us for safety and convenience. Won't the baby eventually expect to sleep in the room with us?

Answer
In your room.. in a bassinet or a co-sleeper. My son hated his bassinet so we got him the Snuggle Nest adult bed co-sleeper that is placed right inside your bed.. he loved it and slept there until he was 3 months. He had no problem transitioning into his crib either. He likes his crib. I am not into the Pack N Play choice for a place to sleep at night.. it is meant to be packing for playing or for a quick nap, not to be used as a bed. It's uncomfortable in my opinion. Best Wishes. ;-)

What would you say would be the essentials to register for - for your baby shower?

What did you use most, what did you baby like, every answer is appreciated!
First time mom to be!

Answer
Well I always feel it is the parents responsibility to get the big things like the nursary furnature but some items to register for would be:

Moby Wrap or sling
diaper bag
bottles (if you plan to use them)
boppy pillow (I dont breastfeed but my daughter loves to be propped up on it to look around and for tummy time)
swing (my biggest lifesaver!)
playpen (I dont use it much yet because she is still young, but now that she is learning to roll it comes in handy)
humidifier (I use the Carne kind from babies r us...looks like a ducky)
your obvious blankets, towels, clothing (I suggest asking for slightly bigger clothing as people tend to get neworn or 0-3 months and your baby may not fit these things long. My daughter was never in newborn and she outgrew most 0-3 month items by 7 weeks old)
carseat (I dont know if you plan on getting a travel system or a converstable carseat. I got a travel system and I am already planning to sell it...shes 12 weeks old. I find the stroller too bulky...I use a Moby instead and I find the infant carseat a royal pain in the butt. Some people love it however and use the carseat to sit the baby in so this will be personal choice)
baby monitor if your home is big enough to need one

another suggestion I have is to register for things you wont need right away but will later. I find so many people ask for all the "now" stuff then have nothing for months down the road. Thinks like a high chair or booster, clothing for later (light sleepers and onsies are used in all seasons so it wont matter what season your child fits 6,9 or 12 month clothes) feeding bowls and spoons (I have a bowl with a handle...its great because she cant bat it out of my hands) sippy cups, potty treaining seat or toilet.....things like that.
playmat (another huge lifesaver)

will this effect my acne , because now i have a clearer skin due to accutane , i am afraid to take antibiotics for my bad tooth ? will my acne come back by taking antibiotics ?

Answer
Accutane is a highly controversial drug yet incredibly remains the industry standard for severe acne. Swiss drugmaker Roche Holding AG, manufacturer of Accutane, has spent most of this century in court defending itself against lawsuits from people whose health has been irreparably damaged by this menacing drug.

Roche has lost six out of six lawsuits and was recently ordered to pay $25.16 million in damages to an Accutane user who developed inflammatory bowel disease as a result of the drug. Due to generic competition and the exorbitant cost of defending personal injury lawsuits, Roche stopped selling the drug in June 2009.

However, the generic form of Accutane (isotretinoin) is equally deadly and remains available in the marketplace under the names Claravis, Sotret and Amnesteem. More than two million people have taken Accutane, despite the fact that it is known to cause depression, suicide, inflammatory bowel disease, and 100 percent guarantee of birth defects if taken by a pregnant woman.

In 2004, brain scans showed that people taking Accutane suffer a 21 percent decrease in frontal brain activity, the part of the brain that plays a critical role in mood and social interaction. These brain changes may explain the depression, suicidal and aggressive behavior, and psychotic reactions reported by some Accutane users.

Even official regulation policy acknowledges the real danger of Accutane. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has warned physicians and consumers about reports of "depression, psychosis, and rarely suicidal thoughts and actions" related to the use of Accutane. Patients using Accutane reported to the FDA that these psychological symptoms improved after stopping Accutane therapy, but worsened with re-start of the drug.

In light of this evidence, the labeling of Accutane was changed to strengthen the warning about its risk for causing depression. Isotretinoin now has the strongest warning available for any drug category—and given a FDA Pregnancy Category X rating..

If you are taking isotretinoin and become pregnant, you are virtually guaranteed to be damaging your baby. Accutane is extremely teratogenic (causing damage to a fetus).

According to the Mayo Clinic: "Isotretinoin is associated with severe birth defects, so it can't be taken by pregnant women or women who may become pregnant during the course of treatment or within several weeks of concluding treatment. In fact, the drug carries such serious potential side effects that women of reproductive age must participate in a Food and Drug Administration-approved monitoring program to receive a prescription for the drug."

In addition to teratogenic and psychological adverse effects, Accutane (isotretinoin) users have reported the following negative effects:

Increased levels of triglycerides and cholesterol in your blood
Headaches and brain swelling
Damage to skin & mucous membrains
Premature epiphyseal closure
Development of inflammatory bowel disease
Pancreatitis
Increased liver enzyme levels and liver damage
Disturbance of your central nervous system
Hyperostosis (excessive bone growth) and demineralizaton
Damage to your eyes including cataracts
Heart attack & stroke
Erectile dysfunction
Siezures
Neutropenia, agranulocytosis, & rhabodomyolysis
Hearing impairment
Allergic vasculitis

If your doctor is prescribing this, he must either be a real HACK or have some other agenda for doing so. It is NOT a last resort. There are many root causes of acne you need to look at that can be very effective. Doctors "Treat symptoms" and do NOT practice real health, only "MAKE BELIEVE HEALTH" by prescribing drugs.

Instead of trying to treat the symptoms like doctors typically do, why not get rid of the acne by getting to the root cause of it. Mixing antibiotics with any drug is NOT advised. Antibiotics are a big contributor to creating conditions that cause acne. On one hand the antibiotics kill bad bacteria on the skin, but also destroy 3/4 of your immune system in the process by killing the good bacteria in your gut that helps fight acne. This generally makes you dependent on antibiotics.

good luck to you

How would enforcing immigration laws effect the economy?

Blanca C

Answer
We are already seeing the effects on businesses with the immigration raids, and this will also affect the economy and the prices of your products. Businesses cannot find replacement for their workers. Citizens keep saying that their jobs were stolen, and that they will work the jobs if the wages where better, but the wages are not the issue. They just don't want to do the work illegals do! some farm workers can make up to $16.59/hr on a piece rate, but that means you have to bust your butt to make that much. Illegal immigrants are consumers to! they buy houses, cars, food, cloths, electronics, and the list goes on. They contribute Billions into the economy and pay Billions in Taxes. Without them, the US would be Billions poorer. Farms are either shutting down, or planning to move to Mexico where the labor force is without immigration issues.

http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/33418.html
Even after offering higher wages, many farms still do not have enough workers to bring the crops in, The Christian Science Monitor reports.

http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2008/apr/14/immigrants-boost-economy-how-much/
Aguero says there’s “no question” the issue needs to be looked at. “They’re an essential element to an essential part of our economy — and maybe multiple parts of our economy,” he said.

http://www.ksbw.com/money/14420595/detail.html
Maureen Torrey, an 11th-generation farmer in the rural town of Elba, N.Y., has been losing sleep. Just as rows of cabbage and winter squash stand ready for harvest on her 11,000 acre farm, she can't find enough workers to bring in the crops.

http://www.totalimmigrationlaw.com/articles-economy-benefits-of-illegals.asp
Anti-immigration activists seem to overlook some of the obvious ways that American people benefit from illegal immigrants who work in the United States. Some of the most obvious ways in which illegal immigrants help the U.S. economy are:

Illegal immigrants living in the U.S. are also consumers in the U.S. and therefore boost the economy.

Many illegal immigrants who work in the U.S. do not file tax returns because they fear deportation and therefore do not collect tax refund payments that they are entitled to receive.

Social Security payments are not made to illegal immigrants. Therefore the money that is paid into the Social Security system by illegal immigrants supports payments to American baby boomers who are now reaching retirement age. Illegal immigrants may be a large factor in keeping the Social Security system afloat.

I don't care about price. We would like one with video and sound...unless the video is of poor quality.
Thanks!

Answer
Although it does not have video, the Angelcare monitor is what I used for both my children.

http://www.angelcare-monitor.com/english/hispeed/angelcare.html

It has a movement monitor that you slip under the mattress and sound monitor combined that is ULTRAsensitive. I was always scared that my babies would stop breathing during the night. I felt it was better than a video monitor since you can't sit in front of the video monitor 24/7, (and you certainly can't watch it while YOU are asleep,) but you will certainly hear the alarm on this monitor! Very reliable, gave me peace of mind and overall one of the best monitors I've ever owned.

How do I choose the best frequency for my cordless phone?

ANG

What is the difference between the frequencies?

Answer
the best a safest you can get right now is the DECT6.0....

http://www.101phones.com/browse/18b145148f9d8fa63849b02bfc08698e/DECT_6.0_phones/?link=leftmenu

What's the difference between 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz phones?

Your average cordless phone is actually a radio transmitter/receiver that operates across various radio frequencies. The three currently used frequencies are 900 MHz, 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz. As you step up in frequency, you'll experience an increase in the signal clarity and the range your phone can reach from its base station. However, the actual range and sound quality of your phone can be affected by obstructions within your home and interference from other electronic devices. Here are some general guidelines for choosing one of the three frequencies:
900 MHz

Most manufacturers have begun to phase out 900 MHz phones with AT&T having phased them out completely. Phones operating on this frequency are fine for household use and reasonably priced, though the features offered with these phones are limited.
2.4 GHz

The majority of phones on the market today operate on the 2.4 GHz frequency. This higher frequency provides better performance and sound quality than 900 MHz models. With more models to choose from, you'll also find more available features, including integrated speakerphones and support for multiple handsets. One thing to keep in mind is that other electronic gadgets, from baby monitors to wireless networking gear, increasingly use the 2.4 GHz band and may cause interference. If you use these items in your home, consider purchasing a 5.8 GHz phone.
5.8 GHz

5.8 GHz phones offer the latest in cordless telephone technology with the best clarity, range and possibly security. The biggest advantage to a 5.8 GHz phone is that its frequency band is less trafficked than the 2.4 GHz band, resulting in less interference. The chips that generate the 5.8 GHz signal are more expensive to manufacture, so expect to pay a bit more.
Analog versus digital

You can find both analog and digital models within all three of the main frequencies (900 MHz, 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz).
Analog

Analog technology applies to a system of recording or transmitting sound. In an analog system, the changing energy in the sound is converted to energy variations in another medium, for example, magnetism in a tape.

Analog cordless phones are the most affordable and available option. You will experience adequate range and good voice quality. Drawbacks include poor security (anyone with a radio scanner will be able to listen in) and static when you move too far away from the base station.
Digital

Digital technology is also system of recording or transmitting sound. In digital systems, the changing energy in the sound is continually measured.

First time dad here. Not a clue what a baby needs after the delivery. I know I need a baby car seat to drive him back, anything else? Thanks!

Answer
My son is now 15 months old. The days after his arrival at home were the most hectic ones I've had. I thought we were prepared, but you can't really over-prepare for a baby's arrival. Here are my two cents on what you need at minimum:

- diapers, diapers, diapers
- wipes, wipes, wipes
- waste basket or diaper pail for dirty diapers
- bottles and formula (even if you plan to breastfeed, just in case)
- bottle brushes
- alcohol and swabs (for cleaning cord)
- baby bath tub
- at least 4 receiving blankets
- at least 4 sets of baby clothes
- crib or bassinet
- at least one changing surface per floor at home
- baby monitor if he sleeps in his own room
- ready-to-eat food/drink for yourself (other than sleep, you won't have time for anything else. Stock up everything)
- arranging pediatrician's visit at hospital and 5 days after birth
- learn to handle baby alone so that both you and your wife can get more sleep
- if you plan to breastfeed, consult lactation specialists at hospital and buy your wife nursing bras
- buy a copy of "What to expect the first year"
- a few pacifiers (my son got by w/o it)

Of course, don't forget the camera/camcorders and baby book for his tiny footprints. Welcome to the sleep-deprived parenthood and enjoy it while you can! :-)

I would like to get a baby video monitor but I want it in both kids rooms with only one monitor screen. What is the best one on the market for the cheapest price. Or...is there a video system out that has only one camera that I can order a 2nd camera separate for?

Answer
Hi

Like any other products, baby monitors need to suit your lifestyle and satisfy your requirements, even to the slightest of details. So before you purchase one, try to dwell on a number of factors first. These things will not only serve as your guide, they will also help you pick out the best type or brand for your little one.

Some of the things you need to consider are:

Range
Portability
Levels of Interference
Video Monitoring Options

There are more details at the link in the source box about the Best Baby Monitors and I hope they help

Take care

Answer
There are many training videos telling us how to make iphone as home spy camera on line.
Um...I've found two:

2. http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to-make-iphone-secret-spy-camera-423940/
The second video looks like very easy to access, but I don't know if it is useful for you.

If these two ways are not fit, I suggest you to buy a Baby Monitor or Home Spy Camera. You can visit this online store:

What's the best Wireless IP camera to monitor a baby?

caliducas

Answer
Wireless cameras are getting really cheap. it gets down to how much do you want to spend. Next, what kind of picture (best), do you want a camera that can pan and zoom (probably you don't need that), and sound (might be good). If you spend a little time looking at them you can narrow it down. Avoid the cheapest ones and get a name brand one. for this you need a wifi camera that plugs into 110 electricity (usa standard). I have 3 in my house. If you search carefully, you can even get a camera that you can bring up on your smart phone. If you have a name brand wireless router like dlink, linksys or netgear, try for a wireless camera made by them. that way it will be simple to connect to the router. Newegg has great prices and no taxes.

I would like to hear from the woman who have PCOS and have had children im very interested in knowing how it happened. my partner and i are having difficulties and dont know what to do. PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome)

Answer
ok, firstly I am aware I am not a woman :) but my wife has PCOS.

She started taking clomid 50mg (cycle days 3-8) last year, we got pregnant twice and unfortunately lost both (2012 was a rough year).

This year the 50mg wasn't working, upped to 100mg still not working consistently. So they put her on metformin too (500mg twice daily). We went for an ultrasound to look for follicles on cycle day, no mature follicles but some tiny ones. I asked if she could ovulate late and the drs told me it should make her ovulate on day 14. Great, now what do we do? About a week later she gets the egg white mucous (I know tmi) and I said "hey why not, what we got to lose"... we did a pregnancy test negative. So she takes progesterone to restart cycle and gets 'flu' and throwing up a few days later . The regular dr kept asking "are you sure you're not pregnant?" so we did a test POSITIVE ! I guess they were wrong, you can ovulate late.

Today we saw our 19 week baby girl wiggling around on ultrasound.

Sorry for the long story, first they'll try either metformin or clomid, or both but it may take awhile to find the correct dose, find a reproductive endocrinologist not just a OB/GYN and if you do get pregnant do what I did insist on taking progesterone through first trimester, or as worst monitor your levels closely. I beleive that, and we kept taking metformin too, saved our baby this time :) There is a high risk of miscarriage with PCOS, like 40% but progesterone brings it down to the same rate as everyone else, I think 16%.

CPS troubles? Please Read!?

Knives

Okay, back in September of 2012, my husband and I were thrown into a whirlwind. It was around 6:00 or 7:00 a.m. and we left our toddler (he was 2 years, 8 months at the time) in our apartment asleep in his bedroom while we took the dog out to potty. Well our nosy, alcoholic, dope-using neighbor (who had just had her son taken away by CPS for the 2nd or 3rd time) decided to call the cops and told them we had been gone for hours, when in reality we weren't gone for more than 5 - 10 minutes. Police men were swarming around and they even did a search of our apartment for any "incriminating evidence" (I'm guessing she said we did drugs, too.)

Of course, nothing was found, no evidence to support drug use or child abuse but we still had to go to court for the incident. We were charged with the lowest class of misdemeanor child neglect and received fines of $300 each ($600 for the both of us). We paid the fines off.

Now, I'm pregnant with our 2nd (and last) child, and my C-section is scheduled in 3 weeks. I haven't had a lot of doctor visits, due to the fact that my insurance doesn't cover prenatal care, and I've had to pay full price for everything (I've made 5 official doctor visits so far, will be 7 or 8 by the due date, plus 1 visit to a crisis pregnancy center, and a few ER visits for pregnancy-related scares. Before I found my current doctor, I called around and was actually denied service because I couldn't pay the outrageous fees upfront/was already too far along in my pregnancy).

I was told by a nurse that because I've had so few visits, that it's considered child neglect and they would have to report me to CPS? I'm afraid that if I'm reported, I may lose my children or have to go through another battle with the courts.

I'm 21 years old, I don't abuse drugs, I don't smoke cigarettes, rarely have alcohol, my husband has a
stable job, we have a stable apartment life, we always have food available, running water, electricity, etc.
Our son has his own room (he actually has the master-sized bedroom, we took the smaller room), toys, plenty of clothes, his own bed, everything! We have a new crib and changing table for our daughter, a bassinet, stroller/car seat combo, a baby bather, a swing, diapers (both cloth and disposable), wipes, clothes, blankets, a safety kit with baby monitors, just about everything you could think of!
What are the chances that CPS will actually take my children?
EDIT:
A Red Scar - No, that's seriously what happened. In the court room, when they read the police report, we actually heard people snickering over the stupidity of the charge, and even the judge had a smirk. CPS didn't charge us, the state of Arizona did. CPS did a home visit, and they "determined that it is in the child's best interests to remain with the parents, but the case of child neglect was substantiated (we told them the truth, we left him asleep in the apartment while to took the dog out to pee, which could have potentially resulted in the unplanned harm of the child, which is in turn considered child neglect to a certain extent)
EDIT:
Also, CPS didn't get involved until after the trial was over. They asked us all kinds of questions about how much money was being made, electricity, food, if we received government help or not, if we had a supportive family, etc. They inspected our son's bedroom and looked in our kitchen cabinets, too.
They gave us a bunch of papers with resources on them, gave us a card, and a month or so later sent us a letter in the mail saying our case was closed.

Answer
Have you applied for WIC or state medicaid? good chance you might be eligible. That will help. As for doc visits. I doubt that would be considered neglect. Many moms delver at home and never see CPS at their door.

How can we reduce health care expenditures on baby boomer's medical needs next five years?

Rano S

I'm working on this topic, and would like to know exports', doctors' and individuals opinions? Please give me your opinions, thoughts, and possible solutions to reduce healthcare spending. Oldest Baby Boomers will retire next year, and this will be a big issue to national budget.

Thank you all for your help

Answer
My suggestion is to give them higher deductible plans. Usually they would be covered 100% or with a very little co-pay. If they are responsible for some of the bill they will limit their doctor visits. Don't make it too high or this may backfire.

Second, focus on preventative care. It costs more to fix a problem than prevent it. Give incentives to get checkups and eat healthy. This is hard to monitor, but let's hypothetically say that the government instead of paying ALL their premiums for medicare, they replace a small portion with vouchers for HEALTHY food. This can reduce a lot of medical problems by attacking obesity and heart problems.

Do I need a router to go with my cable modem for a wireless connection to my desktop?

JD

I am using a NetGear WiFi adapter on my desktop (budget build) with the Time Warner supplied wireless modem, and it works well, but I no longer want to pay the lease fee. I am reading good things about the Motorola SB6141 modem. Can I purchase just that modem to use with my wifi adapter, or must I get a router too?

I am open to getting the modem/router combo if I must or even a separate router and modem. What are some of the pros and cons? I am on a relatively slow connection: 3 megs from Time Warner, and I am relatively happy with it. Could a new modem improve my wifi connection (although that is secondary to saving money)? As long as I don't go backwards in performance I am happy.

Thanks--John

Answer
Yes, the SB6141 does not have wireless routing functionality.

Two types of Internet devices are commonly sold.

1. Combination modem / routers, often called gateways.

2. Stand alone routers which can be connected to a stand alone modem.

You'll either have to buy a cable gateway or purchase a standalone cable modem such as the SB6141 that can be connected to a standalone wireless router.

The second option gives you more versatility. Router speeds and features change much more frequently than cable modems do. If you have separate units you can upgrade one if you like.

I would recommend the Motorola Surfboard line.

GATEWAY:
Motorola SBG6580 Gateway (Combo Modem/Router) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007GZ2QKO/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B007GZ2QKO&linkCode=as2&tag=excharge-20

CABLE MODEM:
Motorola SB6141 Cable Modem (Modem Only) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007IMPMW4/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B007IMPMW4&linkCode=as2&tag=excharge-20

I have Cox Cable 50 Mbps Internet and have had good luck with a DOCSIS 3.0 Motorola SB6120. It is just a older model of the SB6141. Here is a review I wrote a few years ago when I bought it. http://isp1.us/reviews/motorola-sb6120-surfboard/

If you go this route, there are many WiFi routers to choose from.

It pretty much comes down to what features you want and how much you want to spend.

As far as the brand goes, the brand is not as important as the model. Some manufacturers release a good model but the next is crap. I would look at the Amazon reviews of models that interest you. Even if you don't buy from Amazon the reviews will tell you a lot about which models to avoid. Look for at least 15 or more reviews with a 4 star or better rating. Read a few and see if they sound like the particular model will work for your application.

For under $50, this Medialink is the most popular and highly reviewed model. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A3YN0Z0/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B00A3YN0Z0&linkCode=as2&tag=excharge-20

As far as performance goes,

No router or connection type will change your 3 Mbps Internet speed. This connection bandwidth is shared by your entire home network via your router.

For example, If you have a 3 Mbps Internet plan and one user is utilizing 2.5 Mbps of the bandwidth to stream a Netflix movie that only leaves 0.5 Mbps for all of the rest of the users on the network.

Super fast wireless routers and connections permit fast transfer of files between devices connected to your home network (LAN), however Internet (WAN) speed is still limited by your ISP. The only way to improve your Internet speed is to upgrade your plan or switch to a faster ISP.

That being said,

All wireless connections will have a slower speed than a direct Ethernet connection.

Wireless signals are affected by many factors including distance, wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc.

All of these factors will affect your actual wireless range, speed and connection quality.

You should try to centrally locate your wireless router or gateway up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

For stationary devices such as desktop computers or devices used for serious gaming or video streaming your best bet is a direct Ethernet cable connection. Ethernet is unaffected by wireless interference and will give you a rock solid, stable network connection.

If it is not feasible to run Ethernet cable the next best option would be a set of powerline network adapters http://isp1.us/reviews/netgear-xavb2101-powerline-adapter/

You plug one in by your router and one in the room where you need access and connect them to the devices with standard Ethernet patch cables. The network signals are transmitted over your existing home electrical wiring which will not be affected by wireless interference. There is still overhead in the connection but it is much more stable than WiFi.

ACTIVATION:
Most cable Internet providers use the cable modem's MAC address to activate the modem.

Every device that has a network interface has a unique MAC (Media Access Control) address. This is usually expressed in hexadecimal such as 10:25:A4:59:EF:1C

You'll have to call your cable provider with the MAC of the new modem so they can activate it on your account. The MAC address is usually printed on a sticker attached to the modem.

Good Luck...

We get internet in one spot in our house with our computer, but I would like to know if there is a way to send it the internet to other devices like home theater systems, and i-pods from the one computer.

Answer
It is possible, however often not cost effective or the best solution.

There are methods such as Internet Connection Sharing (ICS). You can set up ICS on a PC with a Internet connection and connect it to another PC or other device. This requires two network cards in the first PC. The Internet connection can be Ethernet or WiFi. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/using-ics-internet-connection-sharing. This method also requires the first PC to be active any time you need to access the Internet on the second PC.

The best solution for your application is to just add a wireless router. http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=wireless%20router&url=search-alias%3Daps&sprefix=wireless%20ro%2Caps%2C490&tag=excharge-20
This is a efficient way to share a single Internet connection with multiple devices. The router can connect to your devices via Ethernet cables or using WiFi (wireless) connections.

Many people would be likely be surprised at how many active connections their wireless router has. I have dozens. Cell phones, tablets, iPods, game consoles, laptops, desktops, ROKU boxes, Internet enabled devices such as TVs and audio receivers, and the list goes on.

That being said,

Go here http://speedtest.net and test your Internet connection speed.

This is your Internet speed. No wireless router, or connection method can make it any faster.

If you are going to have multiple users or simultaneous devices such s ROKU boxes to do HD streaming such as Netflix, then you'll want a minimum of 10 Mbps or faster.

Your Internet bandwidth is shared among all of the users of your LAN. So any bandwidth others are using will be deducted from the total WAN (Internet) bandwidth that is available to you.

In simple terms, the more users you have the more speed will be required. Streaming video, such as Netflix and Hulu require a lot of bandwidth. Here are the minimum recommendations from Netflix. https://support.netflix.com/en/node/306

The only way to Improve your Internet speed is to upgrade your plan or switch to a faster ISP.

WIRELESS ROUTERS:
Wireless signals are affected by many factors including distance, wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc.

All of these factors will affect your actual wireless range. As wireless connection quality varies the connection speeds are renegotiated. The WLAN connection may start at 150 Mbps and end up at less than 10 Mbps or drop entirely.

2.4 GHz WiFi connections also experience interference from microwave ovens and cordless phones which interfere with the 2.4 GHz band.

Dual band routers have multiple wireless radios enabling broadcast on the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands simultaneously. Using the 5 GHz band cuts down on interference from cordless phones and microwave ovens.. Not all devices can use the 5 GHz frequency. Many laptops and other devices only operate at 2.4 GHz. Thus the need for dual band routers.

You should try to centrally locate your wireless router or gateway up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

Your best bet is always a direct Ethernet connection. Ethernet is unaffected by wireless interference and will give you a rock solid, stable network connection.

If it is not feasible to run Ethernet cable the next best option would be a set of powerline network adapters http://isp1.us/reviews/netgear-xavb2101-powerline-adapter/

The network signals are transmitted over your existing home electrical wiring which will not be affected by wireless interference. There is still overhead in the connection but it is much more stable than WiFi.

What happens during the weeks 25-36 of pregnancy?

Q. I am in my science class right now and we are studying pregnancy. I need to know what happens during weeks 25-36. Please provide details and pictures will also be helpful! Thank you very much.

Answer
week #25

At this point in pregnancy you probably still feel really good! Soon you will begin to see your practitioner more often. When this happens, many women begin to get the feeling that they are "running out of time."

Fixing the baby's room or deciding where to let the baby sleep is one of the thing you need to work out your feelings about now. Although, let me tell you from experience that you should reserve the right to change your mind once the baby gets here!

Many people spend the first few months with the baby either in their bed or next to their bed in a cradle or bassinet. This allows for easy access to night feedings and changings, and many parents report feeling more secure about their baby. Other parents have a nursery and use a monitor to allow their baby to waken them for night feedings, etc. Some parents feel that they need more privacy or believe that the baby should learn to sleep alone from the beginning.

Look at all of your options before making up your mind. And again, be flexible. You may find life with baby very different from what you had imagined. The choice is yours and it is personal, so don't let others make you feel guilty for your choices.
Baby:

Baby weighs 1 pound 9 ounces (709 grams). The bones are continuing their ossification process, meaning that they are becoming harder.

WEEK #27
Welcome to the third trimester. The home stretch! Around this time you will begin to really put on the weight, this will last until about week thirty-six. Although some cultures dictate otherwise, weight gained during pregnancy is not fat or unhealthy, but rather, necessary for a healthy pregnancy and baby.

The weight that you gain will be distributed in several places. In the beginning of pregnancy you may have noticed that your breasts got larger. The average breast before pregnancy weighs about 7 ounces and during pregnancy each breast can weigh up to an average of 28 ounces! Some of the weight will go to body fluids (amniotic fluid, blood volume, etc.). Remember that your blood volume increase by 30-50% during pregnancy. And let's not forget the baby and the placenta! Add this to a few measly pounds put on as maternal fat stores, and you average about 25-30 pounds.

The most important thing to remember is that a healthy diet is more important than what you gain. Some women will gain more, as in the case of women who were underweight to begin with, and those carrying multiple babies. While others will gain less. Pregnancy is not the time to go on a reducing diet. Even if you are overweight, reducing can actually harm the baby by burning your maternal fat stores sometimes toxins can be released that are harmful to the baby.
Baby:

Your baby's skin is very wrinkled from floating in water. This will stay this way until a few weeks after birth as your newborn fills out into a baby. Although take heart in the fact that your baby's looks are assuming the looks that they will have at birth! Baby has also hit the 2 pound mark (900 grams).

WEEK 29
Your baby is busy getting ready for the birthday! The baby is beginning to regulate his own temperature and the bone marrow is completely in charge of production of the red blood cells. The baby is even urinating about a half liter of urine into the amniotic fluid everyday!

The movements that you feel will probably begin to change at this point. You once were the home of wild gymnastic parties, now as the space becomes cramped you will notice smaller movements, such as elbows and knees. Try monitoring the baby yourself, using fetal kick counts.

Your baby weighs in at about two pounds nine ounces (1.16 kilograms)!

WEEK #31
Your abdomen swells and your rib cage and pelvis may be sore as the baby gets bigger and fills up all the space you have available. While it is really great that your baby is gaining weight and growing strong, you may be in line for different discomforts at this stage of the game.

Some women will have more heartburn as the uterus displaces the internal organs, leaving less room for her stomach and its contents. This can be relieved by remaining upright after a meal. Some women say that eating smaller, more frequent meals helps their heartburn. Remember to ask your practitioner before using any medications, even over the counter products.

One of the most frequent complaints in pregnancy is back pain. This can start at almost any point of pregnancy and can continue well into the first postpartum year. Some of this can be relieved by maintaining good posture, exercise, and stretching. And don't forget to ask your partner for a back rub!

The pregnant body produces a hormone called relaxin. This is what loosens the pelvis making it mobile to help your baby be born. However, this can also cause waddling! I also refer to this as "feeling like a Barbie with her legs pulled off." This is only temporary, and while it may be a pain now, come birth time you'll be rather grateful!

A few women will breeze by even this phase of pregnancy without any discomforts. This does not mean that your body isn't preparing for birth. It could be pain tolerance levels, exercise and agility levels and many other factors. So, count your blessings if you fall into this category!
Baby:

You may worry that if you are breathless from walking or sometimes even just sitting that your baby is in danger. This is not true. Your baby is getting plenty of oxygen from your placenta.

The baby's irises can now dilate and contract in response to light. Due to the deposits of white fat underneath the skin the baby's skin is no longer red but pink, and your baby weighs about three pounds and five ounces (1.5 kilograms). The finger nails may reach the end of the hands.

WEEK 36
You will probably start to see your practitioner every week until you give birth.

Most babies will be in a head down position at this point. However, about 4% of the babies will be breech. Do not panic! There are plenty of things that you can do to encourage the baby to turn, including special exercises. If the exercises do not work, your practitioner may want to attempt an external cephalic version (ECV). The ECV is a manual turning of the baby.

Baby:

The baby continues to grow and snuggle down into your pelvis. The benefit of this is that you can breathe more easily, however, you also have to urinate more often. Your practitioner will probably not stop your labor if you were to start having regular contractions now.

Baby weighs about five pounds two ounces (2.3 kilograms) and measures 45 cms or 17.8 inches. Although here at the end there is a larger margin of difference among babies. Ask your practitioner to palpate (feel through your abdomen) to guesstimate the weight. Remember it is just a guess, although some are better than others.

How much would it cost to equip a home with deaf technology?

Katie

If you were to add a special smoke detector, door bell lights, vibrating alarm clock, TTY, and other technologies, how much would that cost?

Answer
I am 100% Deaf.. So from experience
A TTY is VERYYYYY out dated, it is hardly used now. We have Video Phones now and the VRS (Video Rely Services) They are provided by the government by agencies such as Sorenson VRS or Purple communication or ZVRS. All require a TV or Computer and a high speed internet hookup. That cost is your own responsibility to provide. (19inch flat screen 299$ best buy, Dell ultrabook 699$ internet ATT 56$ with cell serivce a month)
The alarm clocks very in price depending on what other features you would like it to have. a basic alarm only function can be found between 25-60$ the more fancy one that can attach to lights or smoke detectors and provide multifunction I have found to be about 200$
The door bells are an easy hook-up and can be applied to all lights or certain ones in the house each adapter is about 10$
The smoke detectors can be bought at about 65$ for each room you want one in, or you can have a universal system installed professionally for about 500$
Baby monitors can be attached to the alarm clock as a separate function otherwise I find them hard to use.
For the cell phone, I have VRS on my Iphone and a discount on my bill because I do not need a voice plan. unlimited texting. there is also face-time and other things like skype and google plus. Also with phones there is a nation wide program called Cap-tell (if the Deaf person can and willingly uses voise to communicate) that captions everything on a landlines phone(or cell phone is you have sprint) that the hearing person on the other line is saying
ummm thats about it from what I can think of. Other wise for appointments and class and college stuff like that and for more direct communication I use a ASL (sign language) interpreter.
There are also High power hearing aids, cochlear implants and the BAHA (bone anchored hearing aid) if you want to try and "restore" some hearing, or use residual hearing you may have. but note these methods are case to case and are not always effective and can fail

Did you/do you use a baby monitor with the baby in the other room at night...or did/does your baby sleep in your room?

Do you think any either of those are a bad choice?

Answer
My son slept in our room with us until he was reliably sleeping through the night. After that we moved him into his own room across the hall. I wanted to keep him as close to me as possible when he was waking up often at night so that I wouldn't have to walk as far to get him and put him back to bed. Lazy, I know, but practical. He slept in his bassinet at the foot of my bed, which meant I didn't even have to get out of bed to tend to him. I just don't see any joy in getting out of bed, walking around the house, getting baby, putting baby back, and walking back to bed when you have to do it several times a night.

We moved him into his own room across the hall, left both doors open, and I made certain the baby monitor was positioned close to my head so that I would hear him. I don't know what I was thinking, but we didn't need the baby monitor at all. I mean, he was only 20-30 feet away with both doors open. When he cried, I heard him. Even in our larger home now, I can hear him cry across the house with both of our bedroom doors shut.

No, I don't think either choices are inherently bad. I do think that co-sleeping, done properly, is the safest option for a newborn since it prevents SIDS. It also helps babies sleep better.

How do you lay down a baby when he begins to learn how to roll?

Summer I

To prevent him from rolling onto his stomach?
Yeah; I'm asking to prevent SIDS. Also, I do have one of those SecureSleepers...the cushion w/ raised sides. But he's already out growing it.
Also, he's only 3 weeks old and he's already showing signs that he will be rolling soon.

Answer
As others have said, if he rolls on his own, let him. If you are still worried, be sure that he is no longer sleeping in a bassinet and that if he rolls to the side of the bed that there is no heavy material that may be suffocating. Crib bumpers look cute and are supposed to help keep babies from getting stuck in the bars, but they have been known to be a factor in crib death also. a playpen is handy when baby is first beginning to roll because the sides are mesh and allow free airflow if he ends up laying with his face against the side. While rolling does often mean baby should awake if he isn't getting enough oxygen, it is not always true. Often the lack of oxygen causes them to sleep more deeply and therefore, they do not wake and adjust as they should. 2 of my 4 were in SIDS monitors for almost the whole 1st year so I understand your apprehension. If you ever need any reassurance that what you are doing is correct, contact your local SIDS office or got to this web site: http://www.sids.org/
Here they have a link at the top that will help you find other resources and you may be able to find a center in your area. Good luck with your little one!

Which wireless N router is best in your opinion?

Vladimirs

I have DIR-655 Extreme N router, but whenever I download something wireless signal especially on 2-nd floor gets very weak or loosing signal completely on devices like Roku. I plan on replacing this router for: ASUS RT-N66U Dual-Band Wireless-N900 Gigabit Router. Hopefully it will transmit better signal, what do you think? Previously had experience which was not all the pleasant with Netgear and Linksys router ..of course they were not the top ones, but I am being cautious in my pick now.

Thanks!

Answer
The range of your wireless radio is limited to about a hundred feet. Once you exceed this range you can no longer connect to your wireless router.

Wireless signals are affected by many factors including wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc.

Depending on the size of your house and the factors listed above, you may need one or more wireless access points or wireless range extenders to cover all areas adequately.

Many wireless connections also experience interference from microwave ovens and cordless phones which interfere with the 2.4 GHz band.

Just because a particular wireless router works good at one location does not guarantee that it will have similar performance in a different location due to variance in the factors listed above.

If you are getting a new wireless router try to centrally locate it up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

If you still have a weak wireless signal, there are solutions.

Devices such as wireless extenders can expand your wireless range if need be. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004YAYM06/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=excharge-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004YAYM06

The wireless range extender receives weak wireless signals and repeats them to extend the signal range to greater distances. Some models include 4 Ethernet ports in addition to the wireless radio.

Wireless routers are fairly inexpensive. http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=390957&field-keywords=wireless%20router&url=search-alias%3Daps&sprefix=wireless%20ro%2Caps%2C490&tag=excharge-20

Good Luck...

Hi Ya'll

My monitor doesn't pick up voices or other peoples monitors, but it makes this really load noise spontaneously from "cell phone waves". It makes the same noise that your t.v. does right before someone calls you (if you have a new phone/bluetooth - not sure what sends these waves). My baby monitor picks them up at an extremely high volume - even when our phones are off.

Please, can someone who's had this problem and found a solution help?

Which Wireless Router's signal is good for Ground Level and Level 1?

Raja

Hi all,
One of my client wants to use wireless Internet on ground floor (Office) and also on level 1 (Home). i have D - Link Wireless Router but have only 1 signal upstairs. i dont want to run cable upstairs for Access Point etc. i have tried using Engenius EAP - 2418 Model Antenna but there is not much different. what will be best solution??????

Any suggestion will be higly appreciated.

Thanks

Wild_West11

Answer
I won't make any specific brand recommendation - I don't know enough about the high-level tech specs.
I like the Linksys/Cisco stuff because it is very available, and usually competitively priced in my area. Use my equipment recommendations as examples - but choose your own hardware manufacturers.

1st off, placement is an important part. Get the router in a central position.
If you can put the router upstairs, it may solve the problem. Try mounting it in or near the ceiling. Sometimes just a few inches can make a big difference.

2nd - eliminate or minimize interference and blockages.
Most cordless phones, bluetooth devices, baby monitors, garage door openers, microwave ovens, and several other devices create signals in the 2.4GHz band. Move the device or router so they are as distant as possible. Neighbors may be creating interference, too.
If practical, upgrade systems so they don't use this frequency, or shut them off when not in use.
Your wireless 802.11B and G both use the 2.4GHz band.
( "A" uses 5 GHz.. and "N" uses both 2.4 and 5 if using multiple tx / rx equipment)

blockages.. anything but a direct line of sight will block or degrade the signal. Some things are better than others. Living things, like plants have lots of water molecules.. they will absorb signal from the air. Books, heavy wood doors, metal sheathing between gypsum boards -- will all absorb your signal. Things like mirrors will reflect it - so you can 'bounce' signals around corners and up/down staircases. See if you can move things around so there are few plants and such between the users and the transmitter - possibly install mirrors to help bounce some little extra signal.
If the neighbors may be causing interference, move plants to block windows.

3) amplification -
not sure what you meant by Engenius ....antenna.
I'm guessing that it is meant to improve signal. Linksys and Hawking make similar devices that replace the normal antenna on a wireless router, and are rated at +7dB or + 10dB.
If your router is located in a corner, you might be well serviced by using a directional antenna.
( parabolic, yagi, etc.) .. signal will be much stronger in one or two directions, at the expense of weaker signals outside the primary field axis.

Also, there are plug-in booster or 'range extender' / repeater devices. Linksys has been marketing the WRE54G for a while now. I installed a similar model for a friend. It works as billed, but make sure you set it up before you try anything like security on it. Then leave specific instructions about resetting the device(s) or plan for lots of return service calls.
At the simplest, just plug the WRExx into an AC outlet near your base wireless router.
Use the easy configuration software, and you are done. Unplug the device from AC power, then move it -- someplace where signal is still 'ok'. This device will pick up signals from the base station, and rebroadcast them at full strength.
Speed can suffer, especially with any encryption ( Kerebros, WPA2+TKIP, etc) - but it is mighty convenient.

Alternatively - if you have a desktop around near your 'dead area' you can use that as a transmission point - set it up to broadcast signal or as a network bridge.

You can also install a second router or access point - just to use as a repeater or signal extender. Just make sure that DHCP on the device is off, and if there is a mode called " repeater' or " bridge" use that. It doesn't require any network cabling - just a power source . I can usually find routers that are cheaper and more available than these specialized "WRE - wireless range extender" devices.

How can I improve my signal strength with a 900mhz wireless video baby monitor?

dcigary

We recently purchased a wireless video baby monitor, and although it does work, there is significant interference in the signal due to my computer room with several PC's and servers. Is there a way to boost this signal to compensate for the interference, or to set up a repeater for the signal?

Answer
If you have interference any sort of repeater or amplifier will only repeat and / or amplify the interference (noise) along with the desired transmission (signal). The problem is likely a signal to noise ratio problem and interference.

I presume you have done all you can with repositioning the units to make them closer together without getting closer to the interference. If not try that

With the electronic interference it becomes even more difficult to address. A baby monitor is nothing more than a microphone in the baby's room and a speaker in the monitoring room linked wirelessly. Can you use a wired system? This may be your only practical choice. Perhaps a 5 MHz

I've always been interested in buying a Bearded Dragon ever since my friend from long ago had one and allowed me to hold him. I fell in love! In the past I have bought snakes from Petco and a Reptile Store, but I have heard that the best place to buy a reptile is at a reptile show/expo. I heard their reptiles are healthier and that there is a better selection of the reptiles. Is this true? I definitely don't want to buy an unhealthy Bearded Dragon, and I don't want to pay an insane amount for it.

I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma and I believe we have a Reptile Show/Expo a few times a year. So, my main questions are: Where are best places to buy a reptile? What is the typical cost for a baby Bearded Dragon? Thank you.

Last edited 04/14/2010 Yes, it is possible for you to get pregnant right away. I had one 8 years ago(EP surgery) and about 2 months later I was pregnant. i was told that it doesn't matter how many tubes you have you still could conceive regularly with only 1 tube. I did.

Last edited 04/14/2010 I had surgery 2/22 and also lost my right tube. I got a + HPT for 3 weeks after that. My first - was on 3/17 and I got AF on 3/22, they didn't monitor my HCG since they took everything out there was no point. But hopefully yours is a true BFP, good luck...

Last edited 04/15/2010 I know how terrifying it is to get pregnant again after an ep. I had my ep in Nov 2007 and lost my left tube, I got pregnant again in Aug 2008 and was a nervous wreck until I saw the baby in the right spot with a heartbeat. I went on to deliver a healthy baby boy 9 months later. Good luck to you. Jayna..

posted 03/31/2013 I am SO sorry you had to go through this... you are not alone. My husband and I were devastated when we had an ovarian ectopic too. My friend suggested this book....'And Then You Were Gone', by Becky Avella. I would highly recommend this to anyone who went through this, my husband is now reading it too. It touched on exactly how I was feeling, I hope this can help you too!! xoxo "For I know what I have planned for you says the Lord. I have plans to prosper you, not to harm you. I have plans to give you a future filled with hope. " - Jeremiah 29:11
