I am looking to buy a video baby monitor through walmart. I am looking at the Graco iMonitor Baby Video Monitor, the Summer Infant 900 MHz 2.5" Color Handheld Video Monitor, and the MobiCam Ultra Wireless Color Video Monitor System. I have read reviews on all of them and have compared all of the features but still do not know which one would be best. Can anyone give me any input please? Thanks!!!!!!

Answer
Hi! Well since no one else answered your question I just thought to give some input from my experience. Perhaps you haven't yet had your baby? I was the very same way. I went out and planned every last product to put into my nursery: $200 bassinette, expensive travel system, breast pump set, sounds n lights baby monitor (fisher-price) etc. He won't sleep in the bassinette, the travel system is nice but the stroller that went with it is so big and bulky and so inconvenient and heavy to unload that I never us it. I used the breast pump only a few times because my milk didn't come in properly. The monitor is rarely used because I carry the baby with me everywhere in the house (in his carrier) but sometimes when I have the right batteries for it, I use it when I am outside visiting neighbors. I guess my point in saying all of this is that I think you should wait until the baby comes and you know for sure what will work for you and also you won't waste a lot of time and money on stuff that you regret and never use.

Sounds cruel, I know, but it's not what you think. See, my grandmother is really fucking nosey and has a baby monitor hidden somewhere in our living room so that she can listen to the family talk while she is "sleeping". Personally, I can't stand it when people can't keep their nose out of my business and would like to put an end to this. Is there anything I can do or maybe something I could buy to block the signal? Help, please?

Answer
If it's a baby monitor, it can't be that small. Do a thorough search and find it. Then open it up, pry several components off the board and put it back. Or if you know where she keeps the receiver wait until she's away, open it and pry a few components off the board. Or tape the transmitter to a waste pipe so she hears every time a toilet flushes.

I am not trying to sound like a bigot here. But at least Hillary didn't have any small children trying to run for president.

Is it a conflict of interest to have a woman running who has a baby?

IF we are attacked again, do I have to worry our vice-president is going to be listening to a baby monitor instead of our national security advisors?

HELP ME PLEASE. I am about to go crazy, my 20 month old wants to sleep with me every night, and I don't want her in my bed. She kicks me in the head with her feet, and I want her to sleep on her own, without 'mama". She has only been doing this since i got rid of her crib (huge mistake) , then put her into a toddler bed. Well, I saw that wasn't going to work, and since I sold the crib, I got out our playpen. She has slept in that a month before she realized how to climb out of it. GEZ! So that's gone, I didn't want her to hurt herself. So the toddler bed it back and I can't even get her to lay down in it at naptime without being really firm and giving her a "pop" on the behind. I am not hurting her, she has pants on, I am trying to get her to understand that I am not playing. I don't like making her cry, and I want bedtime to be a good experience. If you have any ideas that might help, please tell me! With her being so young, I'm not sure what to do. Thanks!
She is under 2 years old, she won't be 2 until July.
She also starts off in her bed every night, then wakes up between 11:00-2:00 am and crys for me and thats when she wants to get in my bed. EVERY night.

Answer
Fyi- I keep getting negative ratings, but my ideas work and they work fast. I have read several books on bedtime routines for toddlers and I'm passing along the advice given by experts. My son was in a twin size bed at his first birthday. Bedtime is not an issue in my home. I also always receive compliments from complete strangers regarding my sons behavior. His teachers tell me that he is the most well-behaved 3 year old in his class. If you love your child, you need to give them guidance and discipline, along with lots of love and hugs and kisses and reassurance.

Kids need to learn to sleep in their own beds. The Family bed is almost a guarantee for eventual divorce. Your bed should be a place where you and your husband connect, not you and your children.
I suggest that you get those Child Safety door knob locks. Put one on her door, inside her room. She wont be able to get out and come in your bed. Have a baby monitor on so you can hear her. Maybe get a video monitor so you can see when she is out of bed.
When you put her in bed, don't lay down with her. Give her hugs and kisses. Sing to her or read her a story. Make a routine that you follow every night. My son falls asleep to soft lullaby music. Tell her that if she gets out of bed, she's going to get a spanking. (But if you threaten it, you have to follow through with the punishment) It will take some time, but she'll catch on eventually. She needs to learn that when she goes into that bed it's time to go to sleep.
Since you allowed her into your bed, you have to fix the problem you created. Its not her fault that she wants to keep sleeping with you. You just need to put your foot down.
Do not put a tV in her room. She is too little to have her own tv. And you don't want her to become dependant on visual stimulation to help her fall asleep. I recommend soft lullaby music. TV's are proven to help cause childhood obeisity. Music is linked with intelligence.

what small lizard 'pairs' would do well in a 30gal glass aquarium?

chad morro

have a 30gal terrerium setup with planted cacti and other plants. also will be adding a small goldengate bonsai tree. i already have most of what i need to house lizards. not a question abou what i need but what lizards do well in pairs in this sized enclosure. ive researched geckos do well but any other ideas, maybe something a little more 'exotic'...

Answer
I'm not sure why the guy who suggested crested geckos or chameleons got so many low ratings as his was one of the better answers. It depends on what your setup is right now. Since you said you have cacti, I assume that means a desert setup, but some people use cacti in normal tanks as well. To be frank, cacti don't do very well in moist temperature areas, hence why they aren't found there, so if you want to use them, it will turn into a desert tank, which limits you to lizards such as Leopard Geckos, Fat-Tailed Geckos, Pictus Geckos, Juvenile Bearded Dragons (which must be upgraded as they grow), smaller skink species, and potentially smaller tortoises or turtles.

If you're using other plants as well and wouldn't mind removing the cacti, that opens you up to the more arboreal geckos, which are usually cooler, more colorful, and more "exotic." Any pair of gecko save for Leachinus can reside in the 30 gallon (Leachies being the largest gecko in the world). If you've never had some, I do suggest that a) you go with an easier one and b) you buy from a breeder who can sex them. The first part is because geckos are expensive. Aside from Cresteds, which can actually go into the 300 range on a regular basis, only Tokay and Flying geckos are very cheap. Day Geckos usually go for around $50 and there are cheaper ones, but for some reason, these cheap ones are also harder to care for as they are smaller and more delicate. Tokays are hardy and on the larger end of the spectrum. Flying are smaller, but cool looking and good hunters. The second part is because if you buy two babies and both turn out to be males, then you have to buy another cage or return one (usually not an option) or else they will beat each other up to death. In terms of geckos, here are some suggestions: Crested Gecko, Gargoyle Gecko, Day Gecko, Flying Gecko, Tokay Gecko, Bribon's Gecko.

I guess ultimately it depends on what kind of tank it is. If it's a long tank, only terrestrial geckos or lizards which generally don't climb would be better. If it's a tall tank, arboreal lizards and geckos are preferable to make better use of space. Anoles, long-tailed lizards, fence lizards, and several lacertas are the most common lizards out there which work in this sized tank, but they're not very exotic and often hard to find except in poor quality Petcos.

In case someone makes these suggestions, definitely DO NOT go with these: Water Dragons (adults), Iguanas (adults), Chameleons (unless your cage is full mesh), Bearded Dragons (adults), Monitors, Uromastyx

Jenny

I still have a monitor in my three year old's room- I believe it's called a Fisher Price Lights and Sounds monitor and it only has two channels to choose from. We're expecting another baby in a couple of months and I will obviously need another monitor in the baby's room (which is right across the hall). I would like to know if anyone has any experience with having two monitors in the same house and if they interfere with each other so much (static, etc.) that they are useless.
Thanks!

Answer
They only interfere with each other if they are on the same frequency. You will have to buy another monitor that has two channels to switch back and forth with. Leave one on one channel and the other on a different, otherwise yes they will interfere.

I bought a video monitor at walmart and it was horrible full of static and it would black out etc. For $100 what can you expect I guess, but do you know where I can get a good one? Price doesnt matter. Have you had any good experiences with them or do you like the old fashioned ones better?

Answer
We bought a video but it broke. I prefer the regular one because you can't see them breathing anyway. Plus you would be looking at them all the time instead of getting your rest.

Twin baby girls on the way and my wife and I are looking for a video baby monitor. I would happily throw down some more dough if they made a video baby monitor with ip capabilities so I can watch them at work. I would buy just a good ip camera but I cant find anything that can link a wireless handset to it. If there are any solutions without having both a monitor and then a separate camera please let me know. Thanks.
The ip setup isnt the big deal. The problem is that we'd like to set up a portable monitor (as seen with regular vid baby monitors) to use around the house. The home portable monitor would be the primary use, while the ip settings will be my selfish way to still be with all three of my girls =)~... Let me know if theres means to accomplish =) thanks.

Answer
I have heard of a friend-of-friend who uses the following setup as a dog monitor (to watch the dog from home via webcam) which might work for you:

1. wireless IP camera setup to view whatever you're after,
2. create a skype account to run at home,
3. set the skype account to use the IP camera for video calls and
4. set the skype account to auto-answer incoming video calls.

he can then video-call from his own skype account at work to the dog's account and see what's going on throughout the day. and the camera can be moved to a new location without moving the computer.

the catch is, you can't operate the panning of the IP camera via skype. if you need this, perhaps something like Team Viewer might be better - it's a remote desktop app free for non-commercial use, that will let you remote in to your home computer and access the IP camera controls that way (Team Viewer is REAL easy to use).

for your case, I suppose you'd want sound as well, so seek out an IP camera with mic (if you want to hear them) or with both mic and speakers (if you want them to hear you too).

**Edit** Oh, I see what you mean - you want a portable receiver unit with a screen to relay the video to. I had a poke around and came up with not alot.

I can find wireless cameras with receivers (usually 4 cams + 1 receiver) - ie. glorified baby monitors,
and I can find a couple of iPhone apps to receive a signal from an IP Camera (see links below), but no IP Camera portable receiver.

Why is my wifi internet so slow? (Tricky issue) need professional!?

The Empire

This is your ordinary problem so please read everything before commenting.

Background: I bought a new router because my previous router was outdated. The new router is called Netgear N900 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router. It worked great at first and I was able to get the 20gb that I pay my internet provider for. (time warner) Around 11 days later it suddenly dropped in speed. It went down to 1.75 download speed after several speed test it kept going from 1.1 - 1.6.
I thought the issue was with Time Warner so I called them and had them come to my home. The guy did some test and said the modem is working fine (at first I was told my modem was offline) later on he told me the only thing he could think of is that someone in our apartment complex bought something new and that was interfering with our wifi.

I went and returned the router and got another one that was the same brand. (just to rule out a malfunctioning router.) So I ran the speed test and at first it was still 1.1gb I ran it once more and it was 6.30. So obviously I'm still am not getting even half of what I pay for.
---------------------------------------------------

Now some information that may help:

Yes I have a wireless phone that is connected to the modem BUT for 10-11 days it was working perfect with the phone in the same room. So I'm pretty sure it's not the phone.

Typically we have 3 computers connected to the internet, an xbox 360, and an iphone 5. I'm also pretty sure the amount of things connected is not a problem because for those 10-11 days I was still getting 17 - 20+gb,

I have a 2011 alien ware laptop and a old dell laptop and they both get crappy connection. So we can rule out it being a computers fault.

I also asked at best buy if there was anything I could buy that would help protect my router form interference and they said no.

Yes I have a password on my wifi.

Yes I have gone through every channel in my wifi I think it goes from 1 - 11. STILL extremely slow!

I think I covered everything. I asked several people/professionals and they seemed to be stumped. If you can please help me.

I really appreciate anyone who took the time to read through this and especially those who are able to help.
@Leonard From what I understand a better or more expensive router shouldn't matter because it would just give it a wider signal and be able to connect to more computers.

Plus the issue isn't my router or modem. Like I said several days ago my router was giving me 20gb and more than enough range.
@Dan when I connect to the modem I get 20gb and I can't move the router or modem any closer. And like I said before I shouldn't need to move it closer or change routers because it was working for over a week perfectly.

Answer
Best guess, poor WiFi connection.

To properly measure speed, you really need to use a Ethernet connection.

Disconnect the wireless router and connect a laptop or PC directly to the modem via Ethernet.

Reboot the PC or laptop so the modem can assign it a IP address. You should have Internet access.

Now go here http://speedtest.net and test your connection speed. If the speed is not what you are paying for then call Time Warner and complain.

Now, reconnect the router. The router port labeled "WAN" or "Internet" should connect to the modem via a standard Ethernet patch cable.

Repeat the test above after connecting your PC or laptop via Ethernet to one of the router's LAN ports.

If the speed via a Ethernet connection to the router was good, try a wireless connection.

Remember, your Internet bandwidth is shared among all of the users of your home network via your router. So any bandwidth others are using will be deducted from the total WAN (Internet) bandwidth that is available to you.

That being said,

For stationary devices I recommend Ethernet connections, however this is impractical for devices such as tablets, iPods, cell phones, etc.

Wireless signals are affected by many factors including distance, wall density, electrical interference, directional antenna range, etc.

All of these factors will affect your actual wireless range. As wireless connection quality varies the connection speeds are renegotiated. The WLAN connection may start at 150 Mbps and end up at less than 10 Mbps or drop entirely.

Just because a particular wireless router model works good at one location does not guarantee that it will have similar performance in a different location due to variances in the factors listed above.

You should try to centrally locate your wireless router or gateway up high and away from dense walls and electrical and 2.4 GHz wireless interference such as microwave ovens, cordless phones, baby monitors, etc.

You can also move your WiFi device closer to the wireless router to get a stronger WiFi signal.

If you still have a weak wireless signal you can either get a wireless extender or a wireless adapter with better range for your WiFi device.

Wireless adapters come in many types and sizes, you may want a high power USB model with external antennas. http://www.amazon.com/s/?_encoding=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&keywords=high%20power%20wireless%20adapter&linkCode=ur2&qid=1374458138&rh=n%3A13983791%2Ck%3Ahigh%20power%20wireless%20adapter%2Cp_72%3A2661618011&rnid=2941120011&tag=excharge-20

Devices such as wireless extenders can expand your wireless range. The wireless range extender receives weak wireless signals and repeats them to extend the signal range to greater distances.

Here are the two most popular highly rated models on Amazon.

Securifi Almond - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0087NZ31S/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0087NZ31S&linkCode=as2&tag=excharge-20

Netgear Universal WN3000RP - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004YAYM06/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B004YAYM06&linkCode=as2&tag=excharge-20

For serious gaming or video streaming your best bet is a direct Ethernet connection. Ethernet is unaffected by wireless interference and will give you a rock solid, stable network connection.

If it is not feasible to run Ethernet cable your next best option is to use powerline network adapters. I wrote a review here: http://isp1.us/reviews/netgear-xavb2101-powerline-adapter/

You plug one in by your router and one in the room where you need access and connect them to the devices with standard Ethernet patch cables. The network signals are transmitted over your existing home electrical wiring which will not be affected by wireless interference. There is still overhead in the connection but it is much more stable than WiFi.

Good Luck...

I'm due in October and am just looking for a baby monitor. I have read that the Tommee Tippee and Angelcare (not sure which models) both with sensor pads, and the BT 150 are good. I'm not sure about the sensor pads, I have heard they give a lot of false alarms, plus I don't want to be too paranoid. I know they can be useful for premature babies or those with health conditions, but what about full term healthy babies, is there any need?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer
If you are already a worrier the more things your monitor "checks", the more things you're going to worry about. When the breathing monitor isn't going off you'll wonder if it's really working, with video you'll spend your day watching the monitor.

I would suggest a good quality audio monitor with 2 receivers. What will work best for you depends on where you live, in an apartment complex, a house, near an airport...etc.

If you don't have to worry about interference then a model like the Fisher Price "Lights and Sounds" is a great choice. Always rated highly and about $40. It's the model I've used for over 3 years with no problems. If intereference could be a problem, skip the 900 MHz models and go with one in the 2.45 a 2.54 GHz range. The prices are almost the same, and with the 2.xx GHz models you're pretty much guaranteed no interference.

A couple of good choices in that range are the First Years "True Choice digital monitor" ($80), and the Graco "I-vibe" ($90). Both have 2 receivers so you can leave one in your bedroom, and have one to carry around.

Hope this helps,

Alan

Is there a good landline phone, with LOUD volume & LOUD speakerphone, that works with Hearing Aids?

Dubber

I've heard there are telephones out there for the hearing impaired but what I am looking for is a land line telephone for my parents who wear hearing aids but refuse to wear them when using the phone. Both say they get ringing and feedback when using a cordless phone while wearing hearing aids, but when they remove them the volume of the phone isn't sufficient.

So...I am looking for a land line base phone, with speaker phone, and better than average volume and sound clarity. If possible, the phone system would come with one or more cordless phones, also with exceptional volume and sound clarity. Oh, I should also mention that they, and I, are very limited financially so can't spend a lot on this.

If a phone with these features doesn't exist, is there some sort of device that can be attached to the phone to increase volume and sound clarity?

Somewhat related, can anyone define a few things for me:

What is the difference between a 5.8 GHz, DEC 6.0, 9 GHz, and some other numbers and acronyms I can't recall atm.

Thank you for your help!

Kay

Answer
there are plenty of hearing aid compatible telephones http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/PNAEndecaSearchCmd?N=779832047&No=0&Nr=12001&Ns=&Ntk=MainSearch&URL=vShopSearch&cmTag=true&catalogId=13401&storeId=15001&Ntt=hearing+aid+compatible&cm_sp=SiteSearch-_-MainSearch-_-Consumer

DECT - Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications these phones operate in the 1.9Ghz frequency range - an unlicensed spectrum that the FCC has set aside strictly for cordless telephones.. this is the latest and greatest in cordless phone technology...

5.8Ghz operates in this unlicensed spectrum, there are some other consumer wireless devices that operate in this spectrum, but it is one of the least crowded frequencies - however since it is the highest frequency cordless phone on the market, it also has the least range from handset to base (some 5.8 cordless phones also operate on the 2.4 Ghz spectrum)

2.4 Ghz operates on this unlicenced spectrum with many other consumer wireless devices such as WiFi routers, microwave ovens, wireless video cameras, etc...

900 Mhz phones operate on a crowded unlicensed frequency with many other consumer wireless devices, such as baby monitors, wireless speakers, garage door openers, car alarms, etc... also unless the phone has DSS then it is insecure and can be monitored by a radio scanner... (DECT, 2.4 and 5.8Ghz phones all have some form of DSS, or FHSS)

DSS - Digital Spread Spectrum - a form of encryption to prevent eavesdropping...

FHSS - Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum - a form of encryption that also continuously searches for the best channel, and keeps changing to the best channel between the handset and base (normally these phones will not have a channel button, because the phone is constantly changing channels on its own)

Answer
They prick the baby's heel to obtain a blood sample.
Their little fingers and toes would be way too small.

I had three children in the NICU and as I have diabetes, they had to be watched very closely for low blood sugars. One required some sugar water to get her sugar up fast .

Baby could possibly be born at 34 weeks. How long are they normally in NICU? And what are biggest issues?

Ashley L

I've already had the corticosteroid for the lungs, and baby seems to be practicing breathing on a regular basis as seen on ultrasounds. However, right now it is only 3 lbs 3 oz. I'm hoping it won't have to stay in NICU for long... would love to hear other people's stories.

...if you brought the baby monitor or if you had one of those video baby monitors? My friend and I are debating about it.

Answer
NO WAY

Well. a mom did this in our town a couple of years ago. The hot water tank exploded and all three kids died in the fire. She was unable to get into the house to save them, and all under age 5 so they were probably terrified. They were found on the floor in their rooms, probably trying to escape or find mom. And then last summer, I think, there was that Texas day care fire in a home. The day care lady put them down for nap, and went to Target. She returned the smoke was too thick to go inside. Kids died.

Could you please share your baby list that includes items to buy before delivery?

Hi - I am due this August and in the process of making my baby list, doing research and shopping. I will be grateful if you could please share your lists (including brands/models - if at all available), so I can judge what's actually required and also find out if I am missing out on anything important. It's so easy to overdo baby shopping. I wanted to limit the shopping to really useful items that are worth it.

Thanks so much!

Answer
Absolutely necessary in my opinion:
-Diapers (sizes one and two to start, newborn are pretty useless)
-Wipes (I like Huggies wipes better)
-Car Seat (I love Graco seats, both infant and convertible)
-Blankets (For an August baby go with thin thermal and recieving, for swaddling and laying on surfaces)
-Baby Bath Tub (I liked Fisher Price Ocean Wonders with the sling for an newborn)
-Sleeping place (I had an Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper, along with a crib for later)
-Diaper Cream (Desitin), Shampoo and Baby wash (Johnsons is good, Burts Bees smells awesome), Medications (Target brand Tylonel, Motrin, Gas Drops, Teething drops), Thermometer (Safety First)
-Bottles if you plan to formula feed (You might want to try one brand at a time til you hit what the child likes)

Really nice to have:
-Stroller (Again, I recommend Graco)
-Bath Towels (I like Target Brand with the hoods, they are soft)
-Bouncer Seat or Swing (Fisher Price is a go-to for good stuff)
-Fan (They say it reduces SIDS and helps babies breath better, not to mention blocks out some noise which makes Mommies feel better)
-Sling or baby carrier (I loved my Mai Tai wrap, it made it so easy to go out with him as a newborn and also to get things done in the house)

Not necessary at all:
-Changing table or pad (We never owned one, never used one)
-Pack-n-play (Unless you travel a lot, we don't use ours)
-Rocking chair (never sat in it once)
-Baby monitor (if you have a small house, you are going to hear the baby...but it is a good purchase once the baby is older...We have a "Baby Call" by Sony and like it)

I think that is all. Remember the usual stuff like clothes, somewhere to keep the clothes, free and clear laundry soap, goodies for you (breast pads, sanitary napkins, pjs for nursing if you are).

How can I improve my signal strength with a 900mhz wireless video baby monitor?

dcigary

We recently purchased a wireless video baby monitor, and although it does work, there is significant interference in the signal due to my computer room with several PC's and servers. Is there a way to boost this signal to compensate for the interference, or to set up a repeater for the signal?

Answer
If you have interference any sort of repeater or amplifier will only repeat and / or amplify the interference (noise) along with the desired transmission (signal). The problem is likely a signal to noise ratio problem and interference.

I presume you have done all you can with repositioning the units to make them closer together without getting closer to the interference. If not try that

With the electronic interference it becomes even more difficult to address. A baby monitor is nothing more than a microphone in the baby's room and a speaker in the monitoring room linked wirelessly. Can you use a wired system? This may be your only practical choice. Perhaps a 5 MHz

Why do some women have so much trouble conceiving?

best baby monitor for triplets

best baby monitor for triplets image
Q. I just want to know, what are the main causes of infertility in females besides age? Why do some women have such problems conceiving?
I wasn't even trying to get pregnant and wasn't even thinking about babies at all and I became pregnant with triplets, although they're identical. My girls are beautiful and lovely but they're 15 now.

Answer
Many other conditions besides age can cause infertility or pregnancy delay in women. It can be as complex as a uterine or ovarian defect such as PCOS or as simple as too much caffeine in your diet. For me, it was timing. I thought that I ovulated on a certain date but it turned out (with the help of a Clearblue Easy Fertility Monitor) that I was way off and after trying to conceive for 2 whole years (25 months to be exact) after a miscarriage, we used that monitor for 1 month and got pregnant right away. For some women it is more complex. I have a friend who was raped as a child and had so much internal tearing that the Dr.'s said she would never conceive and that it was best to not even try. Well she did because that is what she desired. It took her 12 years but she got her little one. For other women it may be as simple as a diet change or weight loss. Many many factors affect fertility and it is hard to pinpoint each case. All I know is women with infertility are some of the strongest I have ever encountered and I am so blessed to have dealt with infertility and came out victorious. Now I have a beautiful testimony that I will meet on November 1st!

What are the chances of having twins when you go through artificial insemination?

Scarol

And what form of egg fertilization is more likely to make you have more than one child at a time?

Answer
I just wanted to clear up some misinformation that Doodlestuff gave you and clear up a few things so she is not misinformed any longer. Number one, IVF is not artificial insemination (AI). AI is when sperm is placed into the cervix or the uterus. With IVF, you are stimulated, eggs are collected, fertilized with sperm, and they are transferred back to you. And, according to SART - Society for Assisted Reproductive Technology who collects data from clinics in the USA (who transfers it directly to CDC) regarding IVF pregnancy rates, failed cycles, and live births, the twin birth rate is 25% and the triplet birth rate is 1.4%. Far from 1/3. With clinics that follow the strict SART guidelines, IVF twin rates decreased to 20.3%. Unfortunately the RARE clinic like the one Octomom went to did not follow the guidelines and altered those rates. With IVF you have more control than medicated AI cycles and so the multiple rate is lower. The ASRM guidelines do not recommend transferring one embryo. It is no more than two depending on a number of factors including age, prognosis, embryo quality etc. And, with one embryo transferred back to you there is a statistically significant reduction in the likelihood of live birth. Ironically enough, transferring more than one does not greatly increase your chance of multiples but does increase your odds of conception. You are more than twice as likely to give birth when having two embryos transferred than opting for a single embryo transfer. When you have been through the ringer with fertility treatments and have to dig deep in your pockets to pay $10,000+ for an IVF cycle, you will want to do anything possible to increase your odds of success.

AI does not increase the chance of multiples unless the woman has been given drugs to stimulate her ovaries. Many will monitor her ovulation and once she is close to ovulation will get inseminated with sperm. With stimulated AI cycles such as IUI, the rate of multiple gestation pregnancies is close to 30%. So with AI, your chances of conceiving multiples is higher. Some women with medicated AI cycles produce more follicles than her doctor wanted. If the women does this, the cycle is often canceled as not to risk a high order multiple (HOM) pregnancy. But, in some cases, the couple ignores their doctor's advice not to have intercourse. Jon and Kate Gosslin are an example of that. One thing to mention, if you did conceive multiples it does not necessarily mean you will carry them to term. I conceived twins via IVF after transferring 2 embryos (My other IVF attempts I did the same and only conceived a singleton twice). I lost both.

Women going through IVF today face a much lower risk of a multiple pregnancy. Most clinics, when possible, do a 5 day blastocyst transfer and transfer no more than two.

Do know that the goal of ALL fertility treatments is one baby and most doctors strive to reach that goal. Multiple pregnancies and births are risky, to the children and the mother.

what do you recommend, for a baby monitor?

Lala

dont call me a troll just because of my question history, its a shared family account for the girls in the family. now to my question, do you recommend a video baby monitor, or just audio. i dont know anybody who has had a video monitor, but if you had one how did it work out for you? i feel like a video one would stress me out, like id be looking at it all the time, but an audio one, you can just keep it right next to you, and you dont even have to worry about a thing, youll just know. but then again, your baby would be safer witht the video and audio i guess? i dont know. i guess it just decreases the risk of sudden infant death syndrome, (sids). but any opinions would be greatly appriciated.
it may reduce the risk of suffication or something of that nature

Answer
I used an audio monitor with my first baby. 2nd time round, I didn't bother with one, although I did leave bedroom and living room doors open, in case she awoke. Personally if you follow the Health visitors advice on safe sleeping positions etc, and have a well ventilated (but not cold) bed room for your baby/child, everything should be fine.

I am looking for a reliable video baby monitor that I can view on my computer at work, but that is independent in that it will continue to work as a monitor even if my internet connection goes down.
I already found one , the Sassy Web Watch Video Monitor, so I know they exist. I am looking for more options...

Answer
I think you are a bit in the future. Internet connections have to come from somewhere. Do you know how expensive a camera with its own internet connection would be? My home comcast goes down. My cell phone's 3G goes down. Even if you get a dedicated T1 line to your house it can and will still have down time.

Usually holes in the internet services are less then a minute long. While I realize a lot can happen in 1 minute, I doubt your nanny will be wonderful the whole day then magically know the net is down and start beating your kid.

I am looking for a wifi based webcam with a handheld receiver to use as a baby monitor. Any recommendations?

I want to use a wifi based camera as a baby video monitor to eliminate interference and the possibility of others being able to see our house on their monitor. However, I don't want to have to view the webcam on my computer, I want a handheld monitor instead. Has anyone used something like this?

Turtle Beach Tango Issue with bluetooth?

best baby monitor to buy 2013 image

Q.

sooo, early this year i bought the Tangos because my old headset was destroyed by my own stupidity.... anyway, now whenever I try to talk in them it you can barely understand me because it comes out in a static sort of sound. The Tangos are new (as i bought them, so 3-5 months old), they've always have worked before today, I have tried "turning it on and off again", I looked at the TB website but their were no listings for this problem, the audio for games and such works fine, I can hear people, I tried to get dust out of the detachable mic part, I think somethings broken but I don't know what part specifically to replace. I figure/hope that the local community here that has a turtle beach or something knows. no other problems, just static when ever my bluetooth is on for it. NOTE: it might have something to due with internet connection as that seems to be going weird lately, due to too many devices on the internet at one time.

Answer
Same here; got tired of the blue masking tape holding my DPX-21's together. The EFT's are a major league upgrade and world of difference.

First, don't discount the obvious; make sure your Chat button settings are on Chat 1 or Chat Main (left earpiece). If that's good, then try flashing the firmware with the latest version (even if you're using the current one). If you've never updated, now's the time.

Make sure the cables on the transmitter are secured properly also.

The mikes on the EFT's are pretty hard to screw up, so I'd be looking at a firmware, software, or setting fix. If you haven't yet downloaded the firmware update, here's what you need to do:

1. Create a TB Community account:

http://www.turtlebeach.com/community/preset-community

2. Download and install the Tango Advanced Sound Editor and User Guide:

http://www.turtlebeach.com/assets/presets/tools/ASE_20130314.zip

http://www.turtlebeach.com/assets/presets/tools/ASE_UserGuide_2013_FINAL.pdf

3. Once installed, connect your EFT headset using the USB data cable (NOT the long power cable; they're marked), then start up the ASE program.

4. Click the “Check for Firmware Updates” button and let it do its thing. The procedure is on page 6 of the ASE user guide.

Lastly, you can't rule out RF interference either. Make sure you haven't added any new electronics near the transmitter unit that can cause RFI; new cordless phone base, microwave (if you're a hardcore gamer), baby monitor, etc. Even a new Router; if you've installed a new Router or bridge, you may need to adjust the Channel frequency band to a higher offset frequency above 2.4ghz, which is what the BT frequency is. Remember, anything that can generate RFI will interfere with a BT transmission.

Worst case, call TB support - they're pretty good about taking care of customers who buy their high-end units. Did you get the freebie TB earbuds a couple of months ago as a bonus?

Answer
I know you said under $50, but the iMonitor is the best on the market currently - and it's only $10 more. I have one and the reception is great anywhere in my 2-story house.

The iMonitor is by Graco - you can search for it here:

How much do you spend a month on baby supplies?

Jessica

Im 18 just found out im 4 weeks along
I was just wondering what's the price range for the essential; wipes, diapers, formula, ect.
Everything else im already going to have like crib, clothes, car seat.
Please let me know what your estimate is, thank you :)

Answer
I would highly recommend breast feeding your child instead of formula feeding. You will save a ton of money breast feeding- trust me. It is not only beneficial to your baby's health, but also to your health to breast feed. Women who breast feed for their children past 1 year (for 2 years) had a significant decrease in cervical and breast cancers than women who breast fed for only a year. Woman who breast fed for over a year had a decreased risk of breast and cervical cancer than those who didn't breast feed at all.. It will also save you a ton of money and time. Instead of waking up in the night to prepare a bottle, you just take your baby and breast feed :) Breast feeding will also help you loose the weight you gained during your pregnancy. Each time you breast feed you burn calories.

Car seats are expensive. To save money, skip the infant seat. Instead buy a convertible car seat. Infant seats are a convenience thing- you install the car seat base in the car and you click in the carrier. This way, you can carry a sleeping baby in the house. I know that this is convenient, but it is not good for a baby's health for the baby to stay in a reclined position. It is hard on a baby's body. That is why hospitals issue car seat tests- they strap your baby in the car seat and monitor your baby's heart rate and oxygen levels to make sure your baby can withstand being in a reclined postioned. The only time your baby should be in a reclined position is when your baby is in a moving vehicle. Most infant seats are outgrown before your baby is a year old. This means you will have to buy a convertible car seat anyways.

A convertible car seat has a higher weight limit for rear facing and a taller shell. This way you can rear face your child longer. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends to rear face a child until the child is at LEAST 2 years old. It is 5 times safer to rear face a child until age 2! The AAP recommends to rear face a child as long as possible. This means to rear face a child until they outgrow their convertible car seat. I would buy the Cosco Scenera convertible car seat with the 40 lb rear facing weight limit. Be careful- there are 2 different Cosco Sceneras - one has a 35 lb weight limit rear facing and the other has a 40 lb weight limit rear facing. Read the labels carefully. You can buy the Cosco Scenera with the 40 lb weight limit at target- it costs around $50 and will last you 3-4 years. Most kids can stay rear facing until age 3, and if your baby is small, then until age 4, which is the preferable age to transition to forward facing.

The most important thing that you can do to protect your child is to have a properly installed car seat that is used correctly. Car crashes are the leading cause of injury, disability, and death for children under 12 years of age! I would highly recommend that all parents get their car seats checked by a child passenger safety technician. Studies have shown that 95% of car seats are installed incorrectly and used incorrectly. You can go to seatcheck.org to find a child passenger safety technician.

There are two ways to install a car seat- one way is called LATCH and the other way is using the seat belt for installation. LATCH stands for lower anchors and tethers for children. This is a government standard used to install a car seat. There are metal anchors in your car to attach the car seat to the car. All car seats have them and some cars made after 2001 have the LATCH system. All cars made in 2003 have the LATCH system. Never use both the latch system and the seat belt to install a car seat- use one or the other. It could cause too much stress on the car seat so it might not perform as intended by the manufacturer.

You cannot use the LATCH system in the center seating position unless specifically stated by your vehicle owner's manual. This is because the lower anchors on the outboard positions are connected and supported by a metal bar. In the center, the bar may not be there to connect the anchors. Also, the weight limit on the lower anchors is 40 lbs unless your vehicle owner's manual says differently.

How can I move without moving bedbugs in to?

Love

I have a four month old so I'm not sure how much spraying and bombing can be done. We are getting rid of the couch which is where they were first.
We have a lot of baby stuff, and all of it is coming with us, that's a crib, loads of clothes and diapers (I stocked up before she was born), toys, both plastic and stuffed animals. Gettin rid of the stuffed animals is not an option as they are very special.
In our room there are at least 200 books, both hard and soft cover that my husband will not get rid of. Then we have a night stand, dresser, and bed frame. There are also clothes and dream catchers.
We have two infant car seats that stay in the house unless we're going somewhere. A bassinet, bouncer and a large swing that has a frame I'm worried they could get into, the christmas tree and christmas ornaments are also sittin in a corner of the living room since we have no storage. We also have a large entertainmment center but I'm going to talk to my husband about getting rid of that.
Electronics: microwave, 2 coffee pots (my husand and I drink different stuff), a hair dryer, lap tops, baby monitor, tv, humidifier and DS. How do I make sure they're not in my electronics
oh, and some of my daughter's toys are stuffed animals with rattles in those, can those be dried in high heat?? And there are two guitars, one bass one electric

Answer
It is an easy job. If you stop bites immediately and leave CO2 traps. You will kill 100% bed bugs within 3 months. You don't need to dump anything.

Bed bugs hide behind wall, under carpet, in a laptop, and in everywhere. It is non sense to kill them by chemicals or steamer on contact only and let survived bugs bite and lay up to 300 eggs per bug.

Most people don’t know how to kill bed bugs inside laptops or how to stop bites immediately even bed bugs migrate from other apartments tonight. You don’t need to search any bed bugs and should have solved bed bug problem now if you received right tool today.
