Why is our Wi-Fi going so slowly???

Q. This has been going on for about two weeks...
It just all-of-a-sudden slowed down.
It's going slow on all of our computers, even my brothers PSP and my iPhone.

It's not our ISP speed, it use to go way faster than this.
We have an "Wireless N Router" if that helps.

Thanks.

A. Here are a few ideas.

1. You may be getting outside interference from another router or instrument using the 2.4GHz band width. Go into your router set-up and change the channel. The default for most routers is Channel 6, so change it to Channel 1.

2. Elevate the router to the highest point that is practical. That will help distribute signal.

3. There may be new interference: Flouresant light, microwave, baby monitor, 2.4 GHz telephone system ... some new obstruction, something running that wasn't running before.

Good luck.

ideas for the iphone, opinions?
Q. hi what do you think of these 2 ideas for apps on the iphone. one is a thing where it monitors a baby crying and then you input what that cry was about. for instance, your baby is crying one day and you figure out he wants food. you record the cry and say that is a food cry. then in the future you just show your iphone near a baby crying and it will tell you what they are crying for by measuring his or hers pitch and tone. another one is a shock thing, like in the arcade. you hold the iphone and get shock waves through your hand for however long, and send your high scores online and the person who gets the longest time holding it gets a prize or something. what do you think? also do you have any cool app ideas?

A. Awesome, in-fact I can also record sounds on my Nokia, or Motorola, or Samsung, or Sony Ericsson and also make them vibrate.
Wow I think I got a cool phone! Not?

A NEW BETTER CAMERA APPLICATION FOR THAT TRASH PHONE CAN BE A BETTER START!

Internet acting weird.?
Q. So I'm using an Android (No Iphone trolls saying Android sucks or anything) and I'm literally a few feet away from my router. I'm on wi-fi yet I get 2 bars. I never get 3. This became a recent issue. I have disconnected my router and installed its drivers again. Turned off my phone. And also had tried connecting over and over. Any suggestions to fix this? And also how to improve internet speed slightly?

A. The internet is weird because it's full of weirdos, duh!

Joking aside...reinstalling the drivers for your router won't fix the problem. That has nothing to do with the speed and capability of the router.

You would need to update it's firmware. You will have to access the router's setup page, download the firmware file, and update it through there. However, that may or may not fix the problem because that may not even be the cause of the problem.

In order to eliminate the problem, you have to figure out what's causing it and address it.

The thing with WiFi is, any little thing can cause interference which can cause your signal strength to degrade. Anything from a microwave, 2.4Ghz phone, baby monitor, large solid object in the path, bad configuration on WiFi settings (using a channel that everyone in your neighborhood also uses is a good way to lower signal strength and increase interference), etc.

Try switching to a different channel, a less used one. If you have your phone on you, take a look at all the other wireless networks that the phone can detect and see which channels they are on. Pick a channel for your router that none of them use or the least used one.

Eliminate any other causes of interference, such as the phone, microwave, etc and change the location of the router. Routers are built normally with an omnidirectional antenna which spreads the signal in a large radius. Putting a router on the floor next to a wall would be bad placement.

Depending on the hardware in your Android, it might be 802.11b/g/n...n has the highest throughput but requires that the router is also 802.11n AND no other type of device connected to the network. If you connect b or g devices to the network, the wireless router switches to mix-mode to enable those devices to work and your n speed just dropped. If you have that type of network set up, think about switching to all n or just turn off those b/g devices.

what type of camera is a spy camera?
Q. im looking for a camera that you can put in one room and in another room you can see whats going on the place you put the camera in, actuallly i need it because my sister shes disabled eats all the food in the kitchen and i stay in the bedroom and cant watch her. her and my dad stay in the living room and my dad never watches her going into the kitchen. she eats all the meat cooked. i couldn't buy a lock for the refrigerator because i dont want to deal with opening it all the time it should be easy access. so what type of camera can do that like spying in another room

do you guys know any iphone or ipod apps that can do just that like download the app on your ipod that has a camera and put it in a living room and see the recording on your computer or something

A. Interesting question. You have two basic options.

1.) Video Baby monitor: Some can be used over the internet to monitor your kitchen anywhere, anytime. Can be wired or wireless. It's powerful and most mothers use it nowadays. Downside is, it's not discreet and once your sister knows it's there, she can find a way to evade it.

2.) Video Spy Cameras: Your best shot. They are covert, can be hidden anywhere. You can easily find wall-clocks with hidden cams, flowerpot, tissue box, even a tape recorder. I bet you can also find microwave oven with hidden cams, so many more.

Of course there are other options but these two are the cheapest options you can get.
